Bed was comfy

Overpriced, on entering room window wide open to mask the smell of damp dog. Cobwebs all around ceiling paintwork was very discoloured very small sink unable to fill electric kettle overpriced breakfast £ 20 per person extra ( did not have breakfast) Dissapointed wont be be retuning .

This hotel is nothing like how it appears on your website. Also it is dirty and smells musty especially the rooms smell And the tv in the room was tiny better of watching your phone

Clean and tidy room, if a little cramped. Staff very attentive and on the ball. Food offerings were enjoyable and of good quality. Clincher for my booking this hotel were its location for the surrounding Snowdonia national park and the fact it had a parking area for my motorcyle.

A little more space in a single booking room would have been appreciated.

Food was excellent, staff including cleaning staff were amazing, we had a room change which was much better for our needs, very accommodating staff.

There's not much you can do about the size of the bed, but we are used to a larger bed. I dont think you can fit a larger bed in the room we had. The only other thing that I didn't like was when I made a cup of tea in the morning, the milk had gone off.

The bed was small, not a double, but more like a three-quarter. The mattress was shocking, lumpy, and sloping down one side The shower was only a handheld shower, not very good, and the shower door when opened just about fit through it, and the door was broken. It was expensive th drink in the hotel and some entertainment would have been nice in there it was very quiet in the hotel for a bank holiday weekend.

Only 12 car parking spaces and time limited parking outside. 2 spots for EV only. Car parks about also time limited to 3 hours. May have been some spots down the side road but it was packed. Keys were a bit noisy at night everyone jingling them against the metal key fob.

we were in the "family room" that was outside the hotel (the accessible room). Upon opening the door to the room, we got an overwhelming woft of damp smell. The first night I kept waking up with this smell in my mouth, it was disgusting. I later realised it was the smell of wet dog on the curtains which was touching the floor. I popped to the local shop to buy an airfreshner spray and our second night was much better. they have a carpark, which was fine, but small. if we came back late, there was no spaces left. it would be nice if the staff offered up alternative parking options should this occur. turns out you can park on the street overnight, as the "1-hour stay, no returns" restrictions kick in at 8am, so we just moved the car at 08:30 and had no problem.

The Food, Breakfast & Dinner was excellent.

Dinner was absolutely amazing wooooow and bar service was top notch

Handy location, but noisy.

Had to have the windows open so was very noisy. Could have done with a fan, but not a huge issue as I knew it was on the road, just didn’t know it was such a busy road. Food was tasty but they had to comp one meal as meat quality wasn’t great, but they were very nice about it. Staff were lovely.

The location was ideal, rhe staff were friendly and helpful, the eoom was clean and comfortable and thats all I can really ask for!

The room was clean but had an unpleasant smell of cleaning products. Mattress was very soft and pillows old and stiff. But it served the purpose for travelling through.

Very friendly staff, cleanliness of the hotel, modern bar and restaurant with really good food, location as I could walk everywhere, including the train station and town centre. Lovely location. Ability to log into Netflix on the hotel room tv.

Mattress was a bit soft, even though new. The manager arranged for it to be turned over, which helped stop me rolling out of bed.

A friendly hotel with possibly the best service you could ever receive. Excellent value for money too. We had a twin room with bath for 2 nights, with breakfast included, for £280 for 2 people which is good value. Breakfast excellent value too. It's a traditional hotel right in the centre of Porthmadog so an ideal touring base. I would use this hotel again. The dinner menu offers great choice, espectially recommend the steak and ale pie!

Room 11 - very cramped bathroom with dangerous step from main bedroom area to bathroom, I almost fell on at least two occasions stepping down from bathroom. Also very small wash basin with glass shelf at head height, it was almost impossible to use wash basin without hitting head on this shelf. I was disturbed on my last night/early morning by creaking floorboards in adjacent room - also occupant of that rooms mobile phone pinging incessantly.

A lovely and centrally located hotel. We had a ground floor rooms and found them very quiet. The rooms themselves were superbly decorated, very clean and in excellent condition. We were particularly pleased with the outstanding service and good facilities available for a wheelchair user. All the staff gave the impression that it was never too much trouble, and indeed, a pleasure to assist him. The food was very tasty and the breakfast was excellent value for money with a very wide range of options including a few lovely ones for vegans and vegetarians. My only word of caution would be that some of the ground floor rooms have no external windows and that might be an issue for some people.

Room was very poky and compact with no views and had a funny smell. Only area to smoke was under the garage out the back... YOU CANT SMOKE IN THE BEER GARDEN! Room electrics tripped every time we used the kettle and we had no electricity all night and couldnt make a cup of coffee in the morning! Really expensive for the standard. Terrible!

In de ochtend (rond 7 u) werd de afzuiginstallatie van de keuken ingeschakeld en dat gaf veel herrie. Met het raam dicht hadden we er geen last van, maar wij slapen altijd met het raam open.

We arrived on Friday afternoon and we were welcomed by a lovely young lady in reception who talked us through all procedures at the hotel. Our room was exceptionally clean and our room had all the facilities that was needed for our stay. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, a tv, bottled water, clean towels and the most comfortable bed that we have ever stayed in. All Carpets in the hotel, bedrooms, stairways were clean no stains or ragged edges. After settling in we proceeded to the bar which was well stocked and again we were welcomed by a young man that was polite and helpful. On to dinner and what can we say the dining area was clean and beautifully decorated, staff were helpful, explained each meal and the food was delicious. A great experience. All staff were friendly, polite and went out of their way to make sure that each person that stayed at the hotel had a comfortable and pleasurable stay. We will definitely be back soon.

We booked this because it was close to Portmeirion where we wanted to visit. I could see that money has been well spent on the public areas which are tastefully modernised and our room was very clean and simple with an updated bathroom.

It’s situated in Porthmadog which is pretty grim with only about 3 reasonably decent places to eat so it’s hard to get a table. The town was deserted at night. It was hard to shower in the hotel as the water pressure was very weak. They need a pump on the system. The woodwork up the stairs needs sanding and repainting but I can see that the hotel is a work in progress as funds permit and the public areas are very well done.

Good location on Porthmadog High Street. Room was clean and comfortable with everything required. Breakfast was to a very good standard and staff were helpful and friendly. There was just about enough parking on site and we would stay again at this hotel.

The food in the restaurant was very nice. I had an evening meal there and breakfast. It was also well located for Portmerion. Only a short drive away.

Nice comfortable stay, clean tidy room which was nice and quiet although it was on the main street, friendly staff..... Storm was very helpful,good breakfast and good location. Will return when we are in the area. Free parking on site was a bonus.

We chose a superior double, if that was double i dread to think what standard double was like. Very very expensive for a shabby def not superior room.

The staff were really helpful and let us lock our bikes in a space in the hotel. Also, the restaurant and food in the hotel was lovely.

Shower was temperamental. Generally all looking quite tired. Staff weren’t very good. Luggage storing facilities completely insecure, anyone can walk in and take your luggage. Welcome at reception was abysmal. Nobody around at breakfast, went somewhere else.

We stayed for 3 nights, and did not sleep on the last two when new neighbours moved in, there are no staff in the hotel after the hours of 11pm to curtail the noisy guests. Neighbours coming in from the pub on top note from around 11pm slamming doors, laughing obnoxiously and shouting after their night of drinking had ended. The second night the neigbours were loudly amorous until 1.30-2.00am, so the walls are either very thin or they were very loud - I suspect both. The third night the couple brought back an extra man in their efforts to keep us awake. Noises of pain rather than enjoyment, then refusal from the woman led to one of the men shouting very loudly, threatening and slamming doors. At least they quietened down around 12.30am. My partner was genuinely concerned for the welfare of the woman in the next room while they were arguing, so a female perspective for you. I'm not a prude, but I've paid for a room and I want to be able to sleep at a reasonable time without being disturbed to that extent. I had a few niggles with the room and service, but they pale in comparison to the disruption, so I won't list them. Basically, you can take your chances of getting a goodnight of sleep, but you will be guaranteed to go unchecked if you want to carry on the party, dabble in swinging and round the night off with a domestic. I will be staying somewhere with a 24 hour reception next time.

Hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Porthmadog and nearby Portmeirion. We stayed in the patio rooms recently refurbed as smelt new. Clean and comfortable bed. We ate in restaurant and that was great. Only small criticism was that you can hear bathroom in room above. Staff at hotel all friendly and helpful. And parking on site a bonus! Pictures online do not reflect accurately how the hotel actually looks like . It definitely needs some facelift . Rooms spacious and clean , good location . Maid left key in my door which was there all day and anyone could get in and didn’t even get apology from reception staff which was a downside . Table lights didn’t work and tv didn’t work properly . Shocking prices in the restaurant for what they serve .Over all mid satisfied with my stay .

Stayed at The Royal Sportsman for 10 nights. The room was clean & the bed was comfy. The service at breakfast was first class, and the customer service from everyone was superb! I was able to pay off some of my cost of the room before I arrived, but the overall value for a 10 night stay for a single room was just right. Hotel is close to local amenities, so another added bonus! Would like to say Thank You to all the staff for making my stay very enjoyable.

Always stay here when in Portmadoc. Not flashy but friendly with good food. Recommended!

£160 quite expensive for a tired courtyard room which wasn’t very clean and a bit smelly in the loo. Was worth £100 per night. Breakfast very good.

Location. And parking were good . But was expensive for a small double bed and cramped and dirty room . I was very disappointed - it was worth £100 max but perhaps less.

Brilliant friendly staff nothing too much trouble . I had specific dietary requirements & they were able to accommodate me & produce amazing food . Nothing was too much trouble all the staff were lovely .

we had a very small double room with a very small window which during this hot weather it was like an oven. we stayed for two nights , the first night we kept awake from a dripping toilet water tank plus a blocked sink both were fixed in the morning. we were not offered any fans as it was such a small room (nothing like the photo) i mentioned it to the receptionist but was not very help. we think it was very expensive for the poor accommodation.

Staff were extremely helpful as I am an elderly deaf lady. They could not have been more supportive.

There's was no hot water so no showers. No mention of a refund so we did not get the service we paid for.

room 19 - the door closer is defective - I received a laceration on my left arm, caused by the bolt of the cylinder night latch as I struggled to keep the door open to bring in my luggage. As I am disabled, I found the navigation of the step change in floor level to be hazardous. I specifically requested a room in the original part of the building, not in the annexe or in the old adjoining annexe.

The food was amazing and the staff were amazing. In particular the restaurant staff.

The facilities were very dated. The shower trickled and it was a struggle to get the soap washed off.

The bedroom

The bathroom was outdated. Shower was not controlable, very poor breakfast.

We probably had the best room in the hotel, a big room with king-size double bed and luckily a bay window we could open to let in some air. However, the bed was the worst I have ever slept in in my whole life. We stuffed two yoga mats and an extra blanket into the dent to create a surface we could lie on. Also it is a pity that Pothmadog allows drivers - even motorbikes - to speed down the High Street all through the night. Being able to open the windows soon lost all its appeal. We actually left after two nights although we had paid for a third. We certainly never have done that before. Staff were very friendly! But if you can’t sleep, that doesn’t help much.

Fantastic stay staff great including Sharon, Ana, and Huw. Made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Rooms great clean and quiet. parking facilities for our Motor bikes fab. Ana and Huw were great company and couldn't do enough for us.
