Canario Boutique Hotel

We stayed here for 8nights. Worst mistake ever. We were put into room 104 which I can only describe as a jail cell. The shower and toilet was literally in a cupboard, I’m only 5foot but I genuinely struggled to manoeuvre while in the shower.The shower constantly dripped which was not only annoying but also soaked the door and floor creating puddles. We had to lay a towel in the shower to lessen the dripping sound because it drove us crazy. It’s clearly a long standing problem because mould had started to grow and the door had started to peel away and buckle. We were right opposite the communal kitchen so we were constantly awoken by people coming in late or early hours of the morning. The kitchen has no cutlery or plates to use and only contains a microwave. The door handle to the toilet became jammed one day and weren’t able to open the door. A member of staff came with a pair of scissors to wedge the door back open and even the staff member told us she “hates this room and that she had told the hotel management it shouldn’t be a room that’s used for paying guests. We had no option to move rooms or to another hotel as we had already paid for 8 nights. The “laundry service “ is $10 dollars per bag and for this you’d expect the clothes to at-least be somewhat folded but no it was just thrown bag into the bag and tied up while still warm so had a musty smell and crumpled. Some clothing items went missing during one of the room services and when we asked the guy at reception if any of the cleaners had found them when washing the bedding he was just so unhelpful and pretty rude actually, you could tell he really did not care. The whole room smelt of damp and on the last day we discovered mould was not only around the shower but also behind the headboard of the bed. We weren’t sure expecting luxury for the price but we hoped for a clean, mould free environment . This hotel really did put a dampener on what was a special trip for a 30th and we couldn’t wait to get home

Sitting Rooms Out Front And The Cutest Little Court Yard! Very Charming Property Will Definitely Be Back Staff Also Friendly And Accommodating! Safe And Mini Fridge In Room! Room Also Has ROKU TV!

Just felt like it needed a refresh. We cleaned the mirrors because they were not clear. Rug was a nice rug, but dirty. Walls need a brighter color. Air conditioner was noisy. Police wanted us to move car, but we were just dropping off 2 pieces of luggage. No parking nearby. Jose at front desk was amazing !!! Overall not the worst, but could be so much better with a few upgrades. Such a beautiful building too. 🙏

Cleanliness or maybe it was how drab it felt. New paint job would make it feel better; possibly.

I wish I would have trusted the Google reviews. Our stay was miserable from start to finish. Initial flight to PR was cancelled because of rain, I reached out to the hotel to let them know we might have to cancel & asked about the possibility of even a partial refund. The woman on the phone barked at me that it was impossible and then HUNG UP ON ME. Fast forward to when we finally arrived the following night - the hotel was locked (other guests unlocked the door for us), & no one was there to check us in, despite me giving the hotel play-by-play updates on our arrival time and the hotel confirming someone would be able to check us in. After 7 declined calls, I had to walk all the way to their sister hotel to see if anyone was there & could help check us in (they weren’t) - we ended up waiting for close to 45 minutes at 1 AM after having traveled for hours, & even then the employee who finally showed up didn’t apologize, barely said anything & was totally unwelcoming. They threw a key at us like it was an inconvenience to them. The room itself was the smallest I’ve ever seen, it only fit a full sized bed and a tv mounted to the wall. The sheets were filthy - stained with urine, blood, etc. (we went to Marshalls to purchase our own & cleaned the room ourselves). The floors and bathroom were nasty, you could tell the floor had never once been cleaned. The AC unit was also dirty. Large man at the front desk snarked at me when I asked for clean towels. STAY AWAY!

The location of the toilet bowl was too small of a space from the shower;; was literally 12 inches between the toilet bowl and the shower.

There is not good clean service. We were 5 nights but clean services just be done twice and it was deficient.

I didn’t really get to stay in the property due to lack of communication between the staffs themselves which led me to getting a different hotel at 3 am.

How the staff in charge greeted and treated me when i arrived at the location. It felt like i disturbed him in his sleep when i was told to there after i arrived in San Juan. I explained my side but the staff was very rude which led me to not staying there because it made me feel uncomfortable and i was still charged. They sent me an email after i told them about what happened but didn’t receive any follow up. It affected my first time experience in PR.

Muy buena ubicación, cerca de panaderías y restaurantes y en la misma Avenida Ashford. Hay una parada de guaguas cerca para tomar el auto bus a el Viejo SJ y la playa. Muy buena limpieza y personal muy amable.

It was dated and old. A bit unsafe as the hallway doors were open and my room had a broken window latch that left it open. When asked to be moved, the front desk guy started speaking Spanish and guaranteed I wouldn’t be charged. Uh, i just walked in the room, why would I even be charged?! I wish bitten my several mosquitoes that night…probably the open window. It was very inexpensive and if you’re someone that doesn’t care where you sleep then yes, this is an ideal place. Location was great but I would not stay here again.

This boutique hotel has an outstanding location and a friendly staff! Ana and Eddy went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable. They both were able to assist us in getting our personal belongings that we left behind. The value was great! 10/10!

No phone in the room, no counter space in the bathroom!! No coffee cups, one coffee pod,really just lacked basic things. Lots of shampoo and soap. Old wiring in rooms. No breakfast.

It was right near the good restaurants on Ashford Avenue in Condado. I was lucky enough to be on the first floor (no elevator).

Not much that I didn’t like. The staff was very friendly and the rates were affordable.

Excellent location in Condado. Would have appreciated a coffee service in the morning even if no continental breakfast (like when it was a B&B in the 1990s). Staff friendly and helpful.

Excellent location. It's basically a 2-1/2 star hotel. Basic, clean rooms. Not anything like what our friends stayed at, for double the price we paid.

The building is very pretty and well located near the city and the beach. There are many good restaurants around as well. The bed was comfortable.

The room was pretty run down with broken tv, windows and towel hangers. It required some proper (yet easily fixed) maintenance

The location was great. Eddy, the staffperson at night, was wonderful. He related so well to guests, was so helpful in every way and made the stay special.

I didn’t like the fact that I initially tried to cancel a night and was going to have to pay the whole cost. I decided to stay instead. The room would surely have been booked, as it was fully booked for days afterwards.

Daniel and Ana were great! Both were super friendly and offered really good suggestions for nearby restaurants - so many to choose from. Super location with a very short walk to the beach. Having arrived very early, we appreciated being able to leave our bags to go out to explore.

Our room was clean and comfortable. I would have liked better lighting and an outlet near a mirror for drying my hair. Water pressure wasn't great in the shower.

The place was deplorable

The hotel staff members were friendly, accommodating, and helpful. After check-in I realized that my room did not have a hair dryer. Anna from the front desk found one and personally delivered it to my room. (Apparently the previous guest had taken the room's hair dryer with them.) The weather was warm and the air conditioner worked well. There was a kitchenette where they had coffee and a water machine that all guests could use. There was a nice outside patio that guests could use as well.

The hotel is a bit worn, but it is clean. The rooms are small, but I did not spend much time there, and I think the excellent location and price point made the small room tolerable.

Front desk was closed when I checked in even though I told them my arrival would be late. It was raining and my phone didn't work Finally a guest came and let me in the lobby and helped me call the sister hotel. The man that came over checked me in and helped me with my luggage

I've stayed here twice, once on my own waiting for a morning flight to the BVI in 2024 and again with my wife in February 2026 for 2 nights at the begining of our trip around Puerto Rico. I don't think the bad reviews I've read are deserved. This is a more budget freindly option in the same great location as some of the premium hotels. The location is fantastic with a lot of dining and entertainment options within walking distance. It's also a short inexpensive Uber ride to Old San Juan with a lot to do and see there. Canario staff were freindly and accomodating. Daniel who checked us in and got us in our room before regular check in time had several suggestions for places to get a great seafood dinner. The rooms are smaller than your typical chain but when we visit we don't spend a lot of time in our room. But the room did have everything you need as well as a shared kitchen you could use where there was hot coffee in the morning and a really nice quite courtyard to enjoy in the morning and at the end of the day. This will be our go to in San Juan.

The room was tiny, internet was very weak, the TV barely worked as it kept freezing The sink in the bathroom rocked. We were told not to flush the toilet paper yet in the 4 days we were there housekeeping never cleared the basket, we had to do it ourselves into the courtyard bin, DISGUSTING! They never cleaned the room or made the bed the whole time we were there, one day the simply left extra towels! This hotel and their associate hotel, Casa del Caribe (we stayed 2 nights) are by far the worst hotels I have ever stayed at!

Extremely dirty room, yellow stains and hair on sheets, ripped dust ruffle with a lot of little black specks on it(bugs?) there was a whole in the bathroom wall that you could see the outside street. Staff was rude, would not give an extra towel. Room was on third floor, no elevator. They had no one to help with our luggage. I would like a full refund , I slept with my clothes , on top of the sheets. We felt stuck there because our flight was canceled due to bad weather in the east. I would like a full refund. The location was very central in Condado, by the beach. You could use a nice warm little pool at the sister hotel. Staff very friendly and polite.

Small room, very old, it really needs some renovation. Sink clogged all the time, shower was dripping a lot but they fixed it. All the hotels are very expensive in San Juan but this one is really not value for money.
