The hotel has been modernised since my last stay and it looks fresh and very clean , the room we stayed in was in the mair house and it was nice and had everything we needed lots of space. Although we got put in a disabled room which we did not request. The food was nice although a limited menus in Fred’s Resturant for the evening meal it’s also a little sterile it defo needs to add some more soft furnishing and for sure music during the breakfast service to lighten the atmosphere it’s so quiet can hear other guests eating and any chat they are having
The spar was to hot and over booked it didn’t feel special some facilities no Longer work which was also a little disappointing. Staff friendly and attentive
Breakfast and the shower
The sink was broken, the mirror came off the wall, the bed sank towards the middle so slept slanted sideways, the room is only set for one person so one towel out and one biscuit. When asked about this they said there are two biscuits in the packet which is ridiculous for the price of the property and being a “luxury” hotel. One packet of biscuits is ridiculous. Even cheap hotels give two packets of biscuits. There were stains on the carpet and finger print marks on the table so not very clean. The reception area is very tatty with mis match paint marks. Again not very luxury. Extremely disappointed, glad we only booked one night - I recommend staying at the Mill Stone Millar which is close by
Breakfast was great, the bed was very comfortable and the room well equipped.
There was no toilet roll provided, the sink plug was broken and the sink leaked.
Very clean luxurious room s lovely staff beautiful setting great evening meal with lovely breakfast lovely girl on front desk who went out of her way to help me
Nothing
Location is fantastic and beautiful
Things left in room from previous guests. Dirty towels and no interest from reception when reporting problems
Everything except
The bed , comfortable, but twin beds a noo no , lousy sleep
The spa and swimming pool were out of use during my stay but there was no mention of a monetary discount, partial refund or supplement to counteract the lack of facilities. The bedroom was extremely old decor, with the curtain poll actually falling down on to me as I closed the curtains.
The views were stunning and the beds were extremely comfy
Rooms could have been cleaner, cobwebs on wall lights and stain on carpet. Furniture in spa below room being scraped about very early in the morning
Beautiful buildings and gardens. We stayed in The Woodlands building: Rooms were spacious, with a nice view. and the bed comfortable. Great bathroom. Good location for walks in the Ribble Valley.
A/C not working. Fridge in room not working. Breakfast not really organised well. People having to wait for breakfast items at the buffet. Not enough plates and bowls. Coffee machine not working. Staff were doing the best they could, but didn’t appear to have much training. Dinner was better with a very experienced staff member in charge.
It was a nice stay, good location, well kept gardens and lots of parking. The spa was good we had to book in a time slot which makes sense so it doesn’t get over crowded. Staff were nice
With the spa it’s quite a bit pricey for what it’s worth personally. Our biggest issue was with the bedroom. We stayed in the house, there wasn’t any aircon so it got hot fast. There was lots of cracks/chips in the wall, it was damp and the bathroom mirror was cracked. Nice design but needs a lot of tlc.
Breakfast on first day was not great, buffet style eggs and bacon were cold. Asked for fresh eggs that did not apoear
As above
Unexpected room upgrade. Helpful staff. Thermal Spa experience. Good breakfast selection.
Steam room was not working. A little dusty in the communal areas of The Manor House.
The rooms where good, and clean ,tidy.
The spa is a bit dated, 1 of the steam rooms didn't work, and yhe other took a long time to heat up.
Lovely property with great amenities
The bar could have been a little more welcoming in the evening. Lights were too bright and no nice background music
I liked the room and the bed, the front of house staff were also very polite
My room key stopped working multiple times. I had to wake my wife up in the middle of the night to enter the room because no one was at the check in desk at the late hour. When I say multiple times I mean I had to go to the check in desk for a new room key at least 5-6 times for a 2 night stay. Was a real hassle and did not need that on my first day of marriage. I also was in a rush at times as had events to attend for which I was the groom, and could not access my room. This made me late on a occasion and caused me real stress and discomfort, as it was already a stressful week and my time at the hotel was to relax after the wedding and get ready for the next days events.
Shower was blocked. It was reported to reception. Light in Bathroom didn't work.
The spa and the staff were great
The cleanliness was appalling and the layout of the room was rubbish
Beautiful location, wonderful staff
The price of the drinks were absolutely extortionate! London prices and some!
The building is a nice historical one
Avoid This Hotel: A Shocking Downward Spiral I used to be a regular guest here, but the recent drop in standards is nothing short of appalling. What was once a reliable, welcoming establishment has rapidly deteriorated into a mismanaged, unhygienic, and money-grabbing mess. The Key Issues: Non-Existent Nighttime Leadership: The evening shift was run entirely by very young adults whose utter inexperience was on full display. With zero visible management after hours, the staff seemed completely unguided, overwhelmed, and indifferent. Severe Hygiene & Health Hazards: A customer was sick in the main bar/lobby area, and the mess was left completely untouched for over 30 minutes. You can only imagine the atrocious smell. Leaving biohazardous waste sitting in a high-traffic public space is a massive health and safety risk. Absurd Dining Hours: Don't count on getting dinner here—the kitchen completely stopped serving food after 7:45 PM. Shutting down food service that early in a hotel is ridiculous. Appalling Bar Service: The bar abruptly shut down at 8:50 PM with zero warning. No "last call," no courtesy check, and no asking if we wanted a final beverage—just a shutter slammed down while we were actively sitting there trying to enjoy a drink. Left in Silence: Immediately after the bar shut, the staff killed the background music, leaving us sitting in pitch silence in the only public area available to guests. Unwarranted Fees: To top it all off, I was slapped with a service charge just for ordering drinks at the bar. Charging an extra fee for someone to simply hand you a beverage—while offering such bottom-tier service—is absolute madness. Tone-Deaf Management: Whenever you try to raise these glaring issues, management somehow tries to spin your comments to extract a fake "positive" rather than actually addressing the clear, fundamental problems at hand. The Verdict: Save your money and book anywhere else.
The spa was great. The staff in the spa were attentive and friendly. The hotel itself is beautiful and in beautiful surroundings. It is very clean and the room was immaculate
We weren't informed on arrival of basically anything. After we'd had a nice relaxing spa we were planning on having a meal and a few drinks however we were informed that the restaurant was closing at 20.00 and so was the bar!! As it was already turned 18.30 by then it would have been too late by the time we got changed so we had to make arrangements to go elsewhere. We asked at the reception where the nearest place for food and drink was and were told it was 4 minutes away......by car! In reality it was a 20 minute uphill walk. When we got back to the hotel it turns out there were two events on. One was upstairs and reasonably quiet the other was an Indian music festival which to say was loud is an understatement so sleep was pretty much out of the question until the event finished. If we had been informed of this on arrival we would have either gone somewhere else or at least been a tad more prepared. We phoned reception in the night to complain about the noise and was told they would leave it in the handover for the morning shift. When we came to book out nothing was mentioned so we raised the issue again but the lady who although friendly didn't seem to be able to help in any way and said it was a separate company who deal with that part of the hotel. There also seemed to be a shortage of staff at breakfast and when food ran out you had to go and find someone to let them know. No one was checking the hot plates to see what was needed. I have to say that when I got back from our meal I was "allowed"to buy 3 bottles of beer to take to our room. It was meant to be a relaxing birthday treat but unfortunately it wasn't to be. I really don't like leaving negative reviews but in this case I felt I had to
Nice big, well equipped air conditioned room with comfortable bed, quiet environment, good tv, mini fridge etc and very good bathroom.
A couple of maintenance issues, including rainfall shower barely working, sink plug broken, wall mounted shaving mirror missing but replaced by portable mirror stand. Not a big deal, but a hotel of this quality really must keep on top of basic maintenance. The other thing that was not great was too few tea/coffee/milk supplies. With a fridge in the room it would be nice to have a small carton of milk as they do in other good hotels.
Been in country side and very quiet and been in a very old building home from home
The only thing was we managed to have a wedding party going on just outside our window just when I was thinking of having an early night after having a long day walking around Lancaster show just un a avoidable just happens
Great breakfast, lovely staff comfortable rooms, lovely setting.
The old good thing about my stay was the breakfast, it lived up to the standard I know and expect from Stanley house.
On checking staff, staff not friendly and quick to point out this was booked through booking.com ( I don't understand why this would matter because either way it was not free, it was a paid for stay) I have stayed at Stanley house a few times booked directly on the website and can confirm the staff treated us differently this time around. The manor house building was not clean (from the entrance) and the room had a damp smell. I got back home with an itchy rash that could be from bed bugs. The thermal pool wasn't working (the buttons) and the thermal experience felt hurried, staff inpatient.
The bedrooms were lovely, comfy bed
Was expensive to stay didn’t feel like I got what I paid for. The breakfast was ok, one person on the bar!
Breakfast was really good value for money.
The rooms don't have air-conditioning, which would be nice.
Nice comfortable spacious room
I have to say I ate dinner there one evening. The steak which I ordered was not good. But I did get refunded for it
Beautiful buildings , lots of character
Staff weren’t really bothered most of the time, when in the bar or the restaurant, they walked round with their mobile phones . Room was nice , but sink was cracked and mirror was Broken in bottom corner. Not the high end hotel experience that it could have been , wouldn’t go back
Lovely property
Staff were none existent Minimum towels in the room Mini bar not stocked Could not get reception to answer the phone We’re not shown where breakfast was either, on the whole the hotel was let down my the lack of staff.
The whole place was beautiful, the staff in the hotel and spa were very attentive., friendly and helpful . Stayed in the manor house suite and it was done to high specification, well worth the money.
I liked everything about my stay, nothing was unacceptable every thing was perfect
Stylish and comfortable rooms, quiet, pleasant rural location not too far from the M6. Lovely old house. Well prepared and presented food. Keenly priced. Nice mix of old and new
Nothing really. We had to change rooms because of a sudden ant infestation, but one of those things and we were moved to another room which was just as nice.
This is a really great hotel, with excellent large and comfortable rooms, well equipped with fridge, safe, tea and coffee facilities and a great bathroom. The breakfast is really great too, cooked to order and plenty to choose from, including a continental buffet.
The major downside is the menu choice for evening meals. Nowhere near as good as some of the pubs in the area and not great value.
Beautiful buildings, fabulous staff, very friendly

Lovely location and character room very big and comfy bed big roll top bath
Needs some tlc ,
Great location short distance from M6 and easy to get to. Excellent accommodation, staff and value for money. Quiet and very relaxing environment, modern clean tidy.
Nothing
I had a brilliant stay at this hotel.. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff were really friendly and helpful throughout my visit especially Fatima for helping me around, she was very easy to speak to, confident and most importantly friendly, we had lovely conversations about the facilities and venue The location was convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and transport. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend this hotel to others.
Nothing as everything was very well maintained.
The nicest hotel I have stayed at. Beautiful buildings. Nice landscaped. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was amazing, so big and modern facilities. Will definitely stay again. Breakfast was good, continental selection and a good range of cooked food too to order.
Nothing
Room and facilities were good Food was average
Not enough staff and not always well trained
Location and it was really clean.
Everything was good
Stunning visually. We stayed in the manor house which was glorious. Gorgeous fireplaces and windows throughout. The bedroom and bathroom were very comfortable and clean. Great size TV in bedroom - this is often skimped on elsewhere. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful - someone does an amazing job of maintaining these and landscaping all around. Excellent welcome from FOH team. Fabulous breakfast - some really great choices and plenty of it. All well presented.
There was glitter, confetti, rubbish and coat hangers, all across the floors in the main areas and corridor of the manor house we stayed in plus cigarette butts in the entrance to it. Some of the sofas in the bar area were threadbare, with empty beer boxes under the seats. There was no notice of last orders - all of a sudden the shutters came down, and they started vacuuming around us. This was not late at night!
Great rooms and lovely Spa
A little understaffed but service was ok.
Spa was great. Spa staff very friendly. Beds really comfy. Plenty of parking .
No fruit in Pimm’s ! Shower not particularly clean. Food ok, but breakfast disappointing. Not enough staff. Milk in paper cups , no jugs. Hot buffet cold. No sugar on tables.
Very attentive, there was no still water, so manager brought filtered in a jug himself
There should have been still water inbfridge already, so ì didnt hàve to bother staff, also booking.com had not told hotel i neede a downstairs room!!! Thats booking.coms fault not hotels fault
Bed super comfy and staff are really friendly and happy to help.
Food was ok, although struggle to cook medium rare steak. It is the attention to detail that is diminishing the hotel. Bar napkins in the restaurant, using wooden stir-sticks instead of tea spoons. Couch bed in room, not comfortable to sit on.
The room was very nice, it was large and quiet. Well sound proofed. The bathroom was lovely. Great shower
One curtain was hanging down (lack of hooks). We did not have a fridge (other rooms did). The TV was not working. No instructions to work the heating/AC. There was no information in the room. Swimming pool advertised BUT with a charge of £35 per person. The hotel looked lovely but tired. Public areas were grubby. Seating in the breakfast was stained. Breakfast was cold. One morning was very good and we could choose from a menu but on the Sunday morning there was no menu and the food was cold. The bar was grubby , nothing was tidied away. The garden area desperately needs attention, full of weeds, herbaceous planting not cut back from the Autumn, rose bay willow herbs in the borders.
Clean and modern hotel rooms. The (lunch) food was delicious.
The breakfast was quite basic, but you’re able to order omelette, eggs Benedict etc from the waiter. There is no 24hr room service. We arrived back at the hotel around 10pm and all kitchens were closed. We had to order uber eats
Location is lovely, very quiet and peaceful. The hotel is stunning. The staff were super friendly and efficient. The Spa is lovely, especially the sauna and pool which both look out onto the pond and grounds.
Only one slight negative was when sat in the jacuzzi, looking out, you could see a broken piece of equipment outside, looked like a heater that was for the bin. It didn't spoil anything but given everything else was so, on point, it was a minor oversight.
The breakfast was fine - everything I needed was there. I didn't order off the menu. Personal attention and welcome. Beautiful surroundings. Very large comfortable room.
The coffee pot was too small and splattered everywhere when I pushed the plunger down. There was no Body Lotion in the room. Was unable to operate the EV charger, but this was not operated by the hotel. Required signing up to a new app. Fortunately I have a hibrid car.
The parking and location
The rooms on the ground floor were inconvenient for privacy as people would walk past outside often. The lighting in the room was dull and could have done with bigger and brighter lights. A twin room has two single beds together which made it uncomfortable to sleep on and the tv didn’t work properly
Exceeded expectations, great value for money.
Nothing.
Great building, beautiful garden, comfortable beds.
Insects in the room, I almost stepped on a big bee barefoot. Found another dead one next to the window ( it was there for quite some time.
The staff, the comfortable bedrooms and the dining room
That you had to pay extra for the spa
Nice and quiet
Nice place, bedroom lovely and spacious. Handy for the Beardwood hospital which is why we stayed. Food was excellent.
Restaurant looked ‘tired’ Tables would have been better with tablecloths as they weren’t in the best condition. Had 2 hour Thermal spa journey, very good apart from not enough relaxation beds and people leaving towels on the beds whilst in the pool part then not using them afterwards.
Very comfortable room. We upgraded to the Manor House. Well worth it. Dinner was excellent food-wise but the bill was loaded with a service charge which I personally take as an insult. The SC is for the customer to decide, not the vendor to levy.
The bar area was small and uninviting. No cask ales. Didn’t make for a relaxing pre-dinner hour.
The hotel is set in beautiful grounds. The rooms are well designed and very comfortable.

The,stay was so we could go to the Lowry exhibitions. Hotel room wa asked for as very comfortable we asked for accessible room this was excellent. Staff were also excellent othing was too much trouble Food was excellent also. We were not able to use spa was booked most of the time 9/10
No being able use spa.
It was clean
The room
Views!
Hard to say. Nothing much
I was only there a little time as had meetings to go to did try n book a treatment online for me and a friend but system wouldn't let us book together so she had 1 treatment but wanted the 1hr massage drift away but by the time the system got back only she could book 2 treatments 25min each that was disappointing
As above
Very beautiful and spacious room
I love everything
Every beautiful enviroment
The room was spacious and the beds was very comfortable
Beautiful Location and the staff were exceptional.
We have visited the hotel before and were able to book a visit to the spa on the day. On our latest visit we were unable to book into the spa as it was fully booked, we were given no information on how to prebook and would have thought some bookings would have been allocated to guests. The room was adequate but the king size bed was two singles pushed together, there was a crack on the mirror of the wardrobe door and mould around the bathroom window. For the money which is charged per night the rooms could be better maintained.
Loved the bedrooms how spacious they was for the price and how comfortable the bed was
That the spa wasn’t included
Everything! Rooms outstanding. Facilities perfect. Staff amazing
Nothing
Prices reasonable Room excellent
Breakfast was good
Bed was a bit soft
Room was freezing cold! Was told it's a listed building so no heating allowed?!! Never heard anything like it !
Amazing
Absolutely delightful place, with lovely staff and great food and service was excellent.
Nothing
Absolutely everything, beautiful place.
Only a few things on the menu but food was excellent
Staff were super friendly and the building is beautiful
Shower was blocked and room was really dated and the coffee was decaf only
Beautiful building, we stayed in the manor house. Lovely gardens and great food.
The shower area needed resealing.
Old listed buildings.
The sofa is our room was broken and dirty. We paid circa £150 for a night for double King size bed, when we went to sleep, found out that two single beds were joined and it was slight gap between them, its pathetic. Breakfast was fine, not extraordinary but good service. After breakfast, we requested to extend the check out time from 11 to 12, since has to attend a wedding in Glass Marquee which is attached to the hotel. The team in reception stated it can only be done if we pay £20. I am staying in different hotels across the globe for last 25 years but for the first time someone insisted to be paid for only an hour extension of check out from 11 am too noon. Bad experience unfortunately.
