The main hotel is pleasant and the staff are friendly and helpful. The location in the village is good and there is ample parking for guests. The food in the restaurant is good, although there are not many options if you need to avoid onion and garlic.
I would rather not stay in The Courtyard again as the road noise is very intrusive. We stayed on the ground floor next to the road. The room had not been aired and had a strong damp smell. The en suite was clean but the bedroom had grubby marks on the walls, black mould on the windows and window frames and very dirty skirting boards. The room was in obvious need of refurbishment as there was a missing light shade and peeling wallpaper. However, in the meantime, a deep clean would help make the room more pleasant to stay in.
Lovely location, excellent food
Nothing we ‘don’t like’ We have a laugh about the tomatoes always being under cooked at breakfast x Waiting staff need a ‘tiny’ bit of training. Message to Thwaites: You’ve got a fabulous asset and just lovely staff and food. The Millstone and its amazing staff deserve a bit of investment. The time is right. Nothing would stop us returning though always a relaxing, fun, getaway x
Coffee machine in room was an unexpected bonus! Beds were very comfy and feed was excellent.

It was a lovely character property and our room was spacious and individually decorated. Both the breakfast and dinner we had at the property were delicious and huge portions! Highly recommend this hotel for a nice place to stay close to Blackburn.
It was chilly when we arrived, but when we mentioned this they turned the heating on for us and then it was very toasty! The bathrooms could do with a bit of a refurbishment.
Excellent stay, after a slight issue with our prepayment, the customer service was excellent, food quality very good and great value for money, A lady manager was excellent and made our stay super welcome !
Room was beautiful, shower excellent, bed was comfy and quality of the food was very good
Food isexcellent
There was a musty smell in one of the rooms.
Relaxing atmosphere. Room was characterful and very clean. Food was amazing. Good service. Excellent value for money.
Lovely place for a short break Restaurant is excellent and staff go above and beyond
Excellent breakfast...one of the best we have ha
Lovely property that’s easy to find and looks like a rustic country building
Nothing
Location fine. Meal was good.
Breakfast coukd have been better. Carpets stained. Needs upgrading. Bed uncomfortable.
The pub was lovely band the food excellent
I asked for a ground floor room but stayed in the courtyard not the actual hotel which was not as nice
The suite was of a good size and the amenities were good, with quality coffee etc. It would have been nice to have had a fridge and AC, but neither of these diminished our stay. The Food was excellent, supper on the first night was delicious. Breakfast on both days was again delicious and the portion size was adequate. There was a good choice and the selection of cereals, jams for toast etc was first-class. The staff were all excellent, polite and engaging and eager to be as helpful as they could. All in all, I would recommend this hotel, I certainly would stay there again.
It was unfortunate that there wasn't a lift, we had to carry our luggage up steep stairs, but given the age of the building this was understandable.
Great hotel , well presented , comfortable , extremely accommodating pleasant staff and wonderful food .Free car parking a bonus .
Great village location, lovely room with thoughtful touches, welcoming bar area and delicious breakfast
Parking limited, no leisure facilities
Nothing. The rooms were like chicken box , very very small.
Very small rooms no good size window, very bad breakfast. 🤮
Good location and nice interior
Room very small and lots of stairs
Alles is perfect in orde. Een aanrader!
Facilities good
Dinner was excellent. Had to wait a long time for breakfast
Food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. We asked for a walk in shower and the hotel provided it.
Nothing
The food was delicious, the staff are very professional and friendly. The breakfast is exactly what we needed. The room was large, airy and extremely clean.
Nothing
Room was nice, comfortable. Toiletries were lovely
Breakfast took 30 minutes to cook
The cooked breakfast was delicious and every effort was made to maintain a high standard and quality of food and its presentation. We had asked for poached eggs but the chef wasn’t happy with how they were turning out, so refused to serve them, and asked whether we would prefer them fried or scrambled. Nice to see that the staff had set high standards and weren’t willing to skimp. The location was beautiful and quiet too.
It’s hard to say. The hotel is obviously a very popular place to stay and the staff are very busy, plus everyone was very approachable and helpful. There were odd areas around the hotel corridors and in our room, which were looking slightly tired and needed some touching up, but this is being picky and it was no cause to warrant a complaint.
Great food would totally recommend. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and well maintained.
The room was on the small side for being an executive room. Parking was a bit tight at times.
The staff and the bar and restaurant . Breakfast was lovely. Comfy bed. Nice pillows and linens.
Creaky noisy floorboards above our room. Woke us up several times in the night. Some mould in the bathroom. Toilet seat was loose and slipped sideways.
Clean, well maintained. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The food served - breakfast, lunch and dinner - is of very high quality. Lots of great little extras like special dog treats for sale, sun cream freely available at every table outside; our dog was offered a sausage at each breakfast.

The food was out of this world, I had a Sunday roast and I think it's the best I've ever eaten, there was a summer berry cheesecake that was heavenly .
I can fault the place, friendly , with some lovely old quirky touches and my room was spotless
Room was lovely and staff friendly
Breakfast service was slow and no staff available at checkout
Loved it.
We spent our honeymoon here with our 2 chihuahua’s, Miley & Roni. Our suite was excellent, thank you so much, it was just perfect. Comfortable bed & pillows. All staff were helpful & friendly, especially Rachael. Food & drinks excellent. We have stayed here before, which is why we chose to come again, this time with the chi’s. We will definitely come again and hopefully with our friends Thank you once again to all at The Millstone for making our stay so special Chris, Andy, Miley & Roni. xx❤️✨
We should have stayed longer!!
Helpful staff, some walks nearby, plenty of onsite parking.
We stayed during a heatwave and the room was extremely warm and air conditioning would have been ideal.
Nice place to stay when visiting family. In the middle of the village so very convenient. Good food choices and reasonable prices.
The bedroom had very squeaky flooring. Also a tad over priced.
Lovely location, good food, nice terrace.
Nothing
The dog friendly staff and environment. The food was excellent
nothing
Beautiful room with everything you needed. The room was warm but there was a fan in the wardrobe that really helped and made it comfortable the staff were very friendly and helpful
Not much to do around the small village but not a negative
Great staff - very friendly. Knew my name and made me feel very welcome. Always attentive. Food was outstanding as was the price for bed and breakfast. This applied to Zoe and the Team as well as Damien.
Not much I did not like. I got two single beds, a double or king size would have been my preference but this did not detract from the overall stay.
The staff were friendly and efficient, checking in was straight forward. The Bar and breakfast area was welcoming with a great selection of hot and cold food, the fresh fruit choice one of the best I've had. The bedroom and bathroom was spotlessly clean, the toiletries were good quality. Great selection of hot drinks as well as cold water in the room. It was clear that a great deal of thought has gone into this lovely hotel making it a real home from home feeling. The manager went above and beyond and gave me a lift to the local train station so that I could make my train into Manchester, which I really appreciated.
There wasn't anything I didn't like.
Charming restaurant with home style food and friendly staff Full breakfast was excellent
Incredibly beautiful part of the world. The reception team were so welcoming. The room was utterly boutique. Breakfast was very well cooked and surpassed many 4 star standards.
The staff were absolutely fantastic. They are professional, courteous and engaging. We enjoyed Sunday dinner which was excellent as was the breakfast the following day.
Everything was excellent; we have no complaints whatsoever
The only positive about location was location and the fact there is a possibility to book with your dog.
Our experience was disappointing from the moment we arrived. The bedsheets were dirty when we entered the room, creating a very poor first impression. The staff were not welcoming and came across as dismissive rather than helpful. The magnetic room key was demagnetised two or three times in the same day, forcing repeated trips to reception—an unacceptable inconvenience. The room itself was located on the second floor and had no drawers or adequate storage space for clothing, which is simply not acceptable for a hotel of this standard. Breakfast quality was good, but the service was extremely poor. We waited more than 30 minutes for a simple order of scrambled eggs with salmon, despite the restaurant not being exceptionally busy. Considering all of these shortcomings, paying £135 for one night including breakfast is completely unjustified and represents very poor value for money. There are many better alternatives available at this price point. I would strongly advise potential guests not to book this hotel at this rate. The quality of service and accommodation falls well below what should reasonably be expected, and I would not return or recommend it to others.
Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Nice touch having excellent toiletries. Had dinner which was really good and a very nice breakfast in the morning. Great stay.
Church bells.......not the hotels problem!
Breakfast was alright
The room was very small for the orice we paid. If that was a signature room I would hate to think what the county room was like. The bathroom was in need of a refresh there was black mould around the edge of the shower tray and the grout in the tiles looked dirty the paint was flaking off the walls.
Well decorated . Lovely room
Nothing
The staff are delightful & welcomed us & especially our dog so warmly. The dog is now missing her morning & evening sausage!! Human food was lovely too!
Lovely quiet location, comfortable clean room, comfy bed. Helpful staff & great service.
Stairs very steep but expected in an old building. Just a consideration for guests with mobility issues.
Beautifully kept, clean, tidy and welcoming
Nothing
Friendly accommodating staff. Good location and nice room.
Nothing.
Very friendly and welcoming. Spotlessly clean. Delicious food.
The friendly manager , location and feels peaceful
Location
Lacked soul …
Stayed with my daughter for rhe night beautiful building in a beautiful quaint village. Clean comfortable surroundings. Comfiest bed. Excellent breakfast. Happy, helpful staff. Loved our stay and would return.
All very good. Comfortable relaxed and very pleasant
One scuff on bathroom wall
Comfortable, well equipped room. Very good dinner and breakfast with excellent service.
Very little
Always made to feel welcome

Superb place. Lovely and friendly. Good service.

Stayed last year for our wedding and we came back this year - staff were wonderful and facilities were great - see you next year

Really friendly, super clean and nice food.
Nice and old but done out well.
Very homely feel
Nothing I didn’t like
Good kind staff- checked me in early, let us have more time in the room to check out, no questions asked about cutlery, very kind Location is excellent- lovely gorgeous village with good walks and away from main Blackburn Bathroom very clean and spacious Good amenities Car park was good did get busy at peak times but always able to park.
Wasn’t very clean- furniture worn, carpet had lots of crumbs and bits. Would have liked some slippers to walk around in. Actual bedroom was small with hardly room to walk in. Smell of food came from kitchens and corridor very loud. To be fair, it’s a local little inn what do you expect! Breakfast was not good- no pastries, nothing was fresh and veggie grill was cooked from frozen as hash brown was oddly mushy in the middle.
Clean, good sized family room. Friendly service and great food.
This is the 2nd time we have stayed. Staff are friendly, the location is quiet and perfect for going out and about to explore the local area. Rooms are comfortable and equipped with everything you need.
On this occasion is was a little noisier and the room we stayed in could probably do with an update, carpet / bathroom.
Great property, good location and warm welcome
Bed a little too hard for my liking, 2nd time we had stayed and don’t remember this previously so probably varies room to room
We requested a table where we could sit together and we were given a lovely round table, fantastic .
Everything was brilliant.
Adequately sized bedroom, mirrors and plug sockets all in the right place (important to my wife!), excellent shower. First rate breakfast. Easy to get an Uber to and from Blackburn
Great night away with my partner and our dog Hugo. The food was excellent and the staff really friendly. We have a lovely night down stair in the bar eatting, drinking and the locals are a great laugh and friendly. Thanks to the whole team.
We had no problems at the hotel, excellent stay
Perfect all round. Staff friendly….will stay again and have stayed before. 🥰
Nothing!
Sehr liebevoll eingerichtete Zimmer im englischen Landhaus Stil.
The room we had was very clean and comfortable. The hospitality however far exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was equivalent to any served in a five star restaurant. Overall I could not fault this hotel
Unfortunately the rooms are at the top of an old staircase which made it very difficult to get our large bags up. The owner however assisted us, so ultimately this was not a problem.
Staff
Noisy rooms
The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and really well cooked. I liked that they had different seating areas for people with dogs.
I wouldn't have chosen to be in the annexe wing, especially as my lock was too stiff for me to use, but the manager kindly offered to move me to a different room in the main building if I had wanted and it was my decision not to move.
Room was beautiful with lovely “The white company” toiletries. Lovely food and drinks in the bar/restaurant. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
Nothing. We would stay again in a heartbeat.
Everything was excellent
Nothing
Excellent staff and felt very welcome. Parking easy too. Felt really welcomed throughout our 2 night stay. Food in restaurant and breakfast both amazing.
Nothing at all; excellent place.
I booked this for my mum and dad for a birthday get away. They have said the food was lovely and it was nice and peaceful. The room was beautifully furnished with a very comfortable bed and all you need. The shower had good power and the bath was comfortable. They would happily stay again in the future.
It was clean and warm reception
Parking issues and secondly, I should have had a clear communication about the provision of WiFi in the facility
