Location, Ambience
Advertised with bath but not in the room given
Mille, Carlton and the dog treats!
Everything else. Tired, badly maintained poor night's sleep no pre departure probing as to why it was such an awful stay.
Great location .
Mews cottages very tired , carpets stained and loose, poor paintwork, mould in bathroom. Knob missing on stained furniture. Checkin staff booked us into wroung restaurant for breakfast at 10:15 . When we arrived we were told breakfast had finished. Gardenia staff got the meal choice wrong twice despite being required to pre order for only 8 people . No apology. Bill was wrong on both champagne and wine. One restaurant server rude. For a Champneys hotel overall poor.
Its history, location, views,
It wasn’t kept up to date ie decorated in last ten years, tv that worked properly, electrical from the same era rather than at least three different updates including round pins. Terrible bathroom and awful water pressure which meant toilet took ages to re fill and affected shower - hand held over the bath which was the first we’ve encountered
Stunning grounds and location
Accommodation falls well short of the standard expected . Tired room and uncomfortable bed
Breakfast was OK
When we arrived we were taken to our room and in the corridor outside our room there was a terrible smell of damp and in our room the maid had sprayed a freshener to try to reduce the smell of damp. We were then offered a tiny room instead which we had to take as if I had slept in the room that we had booked I would have suffered from Asthma and been unwell.
A beautiful location with stunning views across the surrounding countryside.
The service was disappointing. The hotel had lost some of the character and soul which one would have expected from a property of this calibre. Our meal was underwhelming and overpriced. The wines were expensive without offering quality or value. Our room was tired which made for an uncomfortable night’s sleep.
The room and view were amazing. The reception was very welcoming.
The service at dinner was very poor, and the price didn't reflect the local area.
Beautiful location
No running water, no hot water on the first morning - staff were disjointed between the two main buildings, room was so tired - the wardrobe was disgusting! So disappointing as the grounds are stunning!
Fantastic grounds and building. Restaurant was brilliant for evening meal.
Very chilled out
Beautiful former stately home , lovely location , rooms a good size of a little dated .
Arrived after large wedding had departed , outside terraces dirty and strewn with aftermath , consent cushions . Rowdy people outside the hotel in early hours , restaurant food very good but service poor
Beautiful house and a lovely quiet location. Comfortable, large room. Lovely staff. Excellent breakfast. We hadn’t realised there were Mews Cottages with rooms in addition to the main house. As a tip, it’s best to check where your room is before unpacking and parking your car, especially if it’s raining!
If you have mobility problems, it’s a bit tricky to move on the gravel leading to the main house . Access is much easier to the mews cottages though.
Beautiful surroundings
Room too hot and no fridge. For the money would expect that
Lovely quiet grounds.
Booked an overnight stay, wanted to just use the pool and had to pay an extra £20.00, most hotels allow use of pool if you stay, shower cold but contacted reception who sorted problem but had to wait 30/45 minute to have hot water, not a large amount of cold breakfast variety, expensive but I think your booking just for the name of the hotel.
A warm welcome and staff (apart from restaurant) were professional and friendly. Loved the 2 bed mews accommodation, which felt like having our own little house with outside seating area. Beautiful grounds. Indoor & outdoor pool available at certain times. Evening meal was tasty and breakfast a good choice. Plenty of parking. Walking distance to the Flying Horse pub with served lovely food and sat upon a typical English village green. 30 mins to Tenterden & Chapel Down vineyard.
Although it was in the communication I still feel the pool access (7-10am & 5-9pm) for non spa package guests is restrictive. It’s at times when you’re sleeping / eating, so for the £20pp fee we wouldn’t have had very much time to enjoy. This is a negative for me. The restaurant supervisor / manager was ‘pleasantly rude’ about us not booking a time for breakfast stating the restaurant was full. I have never in 40 years booked for breakfast & even if managing guest times is helpful with demand etc we would have happily sat at a small table in adjacent room. As it was there was plenty of room. I know things cost a lot now but I expected a little more for £350
The location at Eastwell Manor is excellent. The Champneys spa facilities were good. Eastwell Manor can deliver a much higher standard. On this occasion, however, the poor accommodation, spa facilities, cleanliness and customer service collectively fell far below reasonable expectations for a luxury hotel and spa.
The receptionist in the Manor House was offhand and unwelcoming upon check-in. The room was outdated, tired, shoddy and in desperate need of a refurbishment. No robes in the room. The Champneys Spa had NO ROBES! Instead, they gave us ONE towel each. We could not enjoy lunch at the Sage Spa Restaurant wrapped in a towel. We were expected to go from the spa to the outdoor pool wrapped in a towel. Spa Reception was rude, unapologetic, and argumentative, as if the failure to provide robes at a spa was our problem. This was disgraceful and embarrassing. Champneys are resting on their laurels of once being a luxurious spa, which is now equivalent to an overcrowded local Leisure Centre. In addition, the spa was grubby in places and would benefit from a deep clean, with housekeeping on hand to tidy dirty towels and clean the dressing room areas.
Beautiful place.
Gave our specifically reserved table away. No crig in room. Mosquito infestation.
External garden
Poor service, getting charged to use the pool even though I booked overnight stay, paying for hot chocolate as additional charge for breakfast taking funds from my bank before I had checked out.
Lovely grounds, spacious room, decent spa
Very understaffed so all a bit slow on the service
Amazing
Lovely building.
It’s be institutionalised. Awful ground floor- poor decor It appears it has just become a function venue.
We loved the beautiful views, especially watching the sunset from the hotel. It was such a peaceful and relaxing way to end the day.
Firstly, our room did not have the garden view that was stated when booking. We were also disappointed that there were no robes or slippers provided, despite these being advertised as part of the stay. We were also extremely disappointed to discover that use of the swimming pool required an additional £20 per person!!. The breakfast experience was another major disappointment. We expected a traditional English breakfast and a reasonable choice of food, but the selection was extremely limited. To pay the amount we did for our stay and then receive such a poor breakfast offering was very disappointing. The toast we were served wasn't even fresh, which, quite frankly, is an absolute disgrace given the price of the stay. We also had breakfast in the spa area rather than the main dining area, which was not what we expected. Furthermore, there were no staff available to purchase a drink, which only added to the feeling that the level of service was far below what should be expected at a hotel of this standard.
Country side location. The Manor House is simply beautiful on the outside .
The cleanliness is something they need to look into, we had to move room due to the cleanliness. I understand it’s the countryside, but there were bugs and dirt on our carpets, the lack of cleaning is an issue . Thankful we were only saying for 1 night .
Beautiful location, friendly and efficient staff.
Some of the decor needed improving, for example the ceiling was peeling in out room and there was some water stains on the curtains
Everything
Nothing
De locatie is prachtig, hoewel er hier en daar wat opfrissingswerken nodig zijn.
Personeel was niet attent, tafels in bar waren vuil, facturatie liep fout, laders voor EV werken niet
Beautiful area, wonderful buildings, excellent staff .
Room , tired and worn . Bathroom , dirty grouting, stained bath and sink , carpet stained and old . Not up to the usual standard needed lots of maintenance doing . Breakfast not as described on booking. com . No buffet , restricted to choosing an item from the menu. Disappointing from previous stays.
The location the beauty of the house and gardens the outdoor pool
It was far too busy people could not find beds around the pool area. The main restaurant was closed on a Monday and Tuesday and also was not told that bar food would stop at 6 pm.
The reception staff were excellent ,and extremely helpful. Rooms were very comfortable. Beautiful property in lovely location Easy parking
Location is great, however some parts are worn such as stains of moisture on ceiling in rooms and wall plaster falling off in lobby. The service is poor: tables in the bar are dirty, when you ask for help at reception they promise support but don’t do it. EV chargers: none of the 3 working.
All the beautiful surroundings and a wonderful waitress called NAIHM and the food
I didn’t like the fact you put me nor with my family members We had randomer come in to our lounge and we weren’t allowed to be next room to them !!! My daughters .. We weren’t allowed to stay in 632 next to 631 … We were next block very annoying !!! 611 round corner …
Very accommodating, handled booking with care
Food service extremely slow, main restaurant was unavailable and did not say on the website so was a dampener to the anniversary.
The Manor House was stunning
The mews cottages are not fit for purpose. Hot and stuffy - impossible to sleep. Couldn’t open windows because of the mosquitoes. Crawling with mosquitoes and various other bugs and insects. The hotel attempts to explain this as due to its countryside location. Dirty and ripped carpets. Generally the rooms are shabby and in need of a refit. Breakfast was very lacklustre. Some of the staff were surly and rude (not all - a couple were very pleasant). In all, the worst hotel experience I have had for a very long time. I need accommodation when I work in the area however I will certainly not be returning to this property.
Arrived for a much needed spa day / day off and some downtime. Reception handed robe and flip flops Little attention to detail or customer care to pressure she was under with sheer volume of guests and club members. Turned up for treatment at 12 to be told it was cancelled. They had tried to contact me at 09.30 by which time we had arrived for visit having driven 2 hours. So not impressed with lunch, the state of the outdoor terrace area, jacuzzi being closed for the duration. Basically paid for a swim! Wouldn’t recommend and the thing I wouldn’t recommit was customer care and management oversight. No one could care less about the experience we were or weren’t having in the day.
Just awful from start to finish. My husband had made it clear to staff that I have a disability, but our room was miles from reception. It was ok, could have been lovely, but was so tired and dated. The curtains were frayed and faded - tip to housekeeping here, is you just turned them round so the inner edge becomes the outer, it would have been a quick fix. We asked for coffee pods five or six times but never got them. The grounds start off well but as you walk further down, the walls are broken and decaying. Evening meal - ok, not great, and a very limited menu which appears to never change. The straw that broke the camel's back - my husband had checked that breakfast was in the main house where our room was, as I cannot walk far. The next morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast only to find that we had to walk to the spa for breakfast. We pointed out that we could not do so - no suggestions, no solutions offered, just ~"oh dear". not helpful, so we had to leave and find a cafe to get breakfast. We asked for a refund for the breakfast and were told it could not be done. Such a disappointment - I came to this hotel thirty years ago when it was amazing, now it is decaying and the service appalling We put in two complaints to the email address given for complaints - asking for our breakfast to be reimbursed - and perhaps not surprisingly there has been an overwhelmingly silent response to both. If the management do read this review - please just refund our breakfasts!!!!
Really wonderful room in the old manor, clean and very comfortable, nice tea and coffee and complimentary water provided, beautiful extensive grounds, will definitely return for another stay, nice continental breakfast and dinner in the spa restaurant was good
Its was set in beautiful grounds and well maintained grounds
The room was tired and had peeling paint and stains on the carpet in our room. The staff at breakfast where incredibly over stretch! The breakfast thou included in the price of the room if i had to pay for it i would have been incredibly disappointed. The next morning our breakfast moved to a different restaurant and the selection of breakfast was very limited and again disappointing with the staff not remembering parts of the order.
Had a great aqua class this morning in the sunshine with Tibias in the outside pool, he had some great moves and was very enjoyable, he was also very kind and got me a towel, thank you
Prachtig hotel zeer netjes
Karig ontbijt
Beautiful hotel
Bookings.com deal didn't have the use of the spa,we had to pay extra which i didn't know, poor information from Booking.com in my opinion
Came as a family last week, for Afternoon Tea. We were so looking forward to it and having visited once before, we knew what a gorgeous place it is. The building and grounds are as stunning as ever but sadly a lot has changed and not for the better. On arrival, we found The Lounges where Afternoon Tea was to be served but we hovered outside the door to wait to be seated. A member of staff at a nearby desk did not acknowledge us - although she was pleasant enough when (after about 5 minutes of waiting around like lemons) I asked her if we could just go in. She said 'yes', so we sat ourselves down. Once our server arrived, she asked what tea we wanted without offering us a menu - I had to ask to see it so we could choose, as there were a few options. There was just a Classic Afternoon Tea advertised including a suasage roll and meat in sandwiches. I asked for a vegetarian option but there wasn't, so I felt short changed when I didn't get anything in place of the sausage roll - just 2 tiny finger sandwiches which were okay and a tiny brioche roll which was dry. The scones were big in size and looked nice but they must have been a couple of days old because they tasted very dry and hard. We each left a scone behind and that is unheard of for our family - we didn't even want to take them home! Also, there was not much cream and jam given for the size of the scones. The 3 miniature desserts were fine. All in all, the setting is truly special but the Afternoon Tea was bland and a real let down. I don't think it would take too much to get the standards higher - more care and attention and fresher food - but sadly all of the recent reviews of Eastwell Manor are mostly poor and that is such a shame. 2 stars given - one for the setting and one for the staff who were nice enough.
A very relaxing overnight stay with my friend. We arrived and were checked in efficiently and greeted warmly . The facilities were clean and tidy. The outdoor pool was very warm and had lots of sun loungers. The head in the clouds treatment was blissful. The changing rooms had plenty of lockers . Lunch in sage was lovely. Dinner was very nice. Our waitress Amira was so helpful and a nothing was too much trouble. (She was also on duty at breakfast and the standard of service very high.) Our stay in the news cottages was very comfortable. Impressed with the tech on the tv and the lovely Elemis toiletries as a standard. A fabulous blissful 24 hours with my friend made even more special by the lovely warm and friendly team working there. Thank you !
Outdoor Pool is spectacular.
Food is not great, and our room in the mews - one of wi does sealed closed we got eaten alive by mosquitos.
Went for a family wedding which was EXCELLENT and we had an amazing time .HOWEVER we had booked the night before and the night of the wedding as a special treat( this was booked in March !) . On arrival our room in the manor was not available and we had been moved to another which had also been double booked so we were told we could only stay in a cottahe room near the manor but not in the manor building itself. We had to wait an hour and a half for this to be prepared for us ( they must have known this room was going to be needed) . The acorn cottage as it was called is to be avoided at all costs . I believe it is probably used to accommodate employees in bad weather or in an emergency! The bedroom door had a lock on it and the shower and loo were outside the bedroom. I got locked out in the middle of the night going to the loo as the door slammed shut ! Room very bare, no hotel info or fan and was full of mosquitoes! The next morning we had breakfast… toast arrived after the meal had finished and only after we had asked what had happened to it. We were also informed that there was no butter as they had run out ( on a Saturday morning- same again on the Sunday!) only flora available! Saw manager who apologised said he would arrange a refund for the Friday night and we eventually were allocated a room in the manor for the Saturday night . All well we thought except … the shower was a handheld one that just spun around and around so had to be held all the time and on Sunday morning there was no hotwater! Very disappointedly, we returned home having been assured a refund would be on its way! It arrived that same evening….. £86 We had paid £390 for two nights including breakfast so cannot understand where £86 came from! Having raised this I heard no more for 11 days and was then told it was being investigated…. A further 11 days later we still have heard no more. Very expensive. Customer service is terrible, quality of stay was terrible, location lovely although the manor itself very “ tired “ and corridors all had wallpaper hanging down. Quirky it definitely is . The wedding itself was excellent and well organised but the stay was far from desirable! Would I go again?? No Note: Keith the Porter went above and beyond to try and help the situation! Thank you
The new concept at Eastwell Manor was a big surprise to us. Dinner and breakfast were served in the impersonal spa restaurant instead of the beautiful main dining room in the manor. The gardens were neglected (and I'm not just referring to the drought), and there were errors in the billing. We've stayed regularly at Eastwell Manor, but now I think it is time to find a new favorite place in the region.
Pleasant, classic English Mansion style
Old and dated, pretty much everything about the hotel needs a massive modern upgrade or restoration. For the £ you could get alot better hotel/spa accommodation. Disappointed that they haven’t kept it in line with more recent entrants into the same sector.
Surg served me again today with my coffee. He is the very best thing about my visits as a member of eastwell manor. He is one of the most well trained members of staff in the sage restaurant. Well done surg. Your customer service is always excellent and on point.
Facilities were excellent lovely location
No Air Con
Grounds were pretty and a beautiful venue for a wedding. Great location for local pubs and country walks.
Service was hugely disappointing - potentially due to not enough staff. We had to ask at least twice for everything (fan in our room when ours was broken, a fridge, extra water) and a few items never turned up with no apology or explanation provided. The spa facilities have strict times in which you can enter (if you don't pay for the full day) and when a large group of 20 arrived at 5pm for the evening slot, there were no towels or robes available. There were three weddings taking place across our stay and we were we not notified that some of the space couldn't be used. Would not recommend going in peak summer season.
Great shower pressure and a comfy bed. Outside swimming pool warm due to hot weather.
Poor decoration, large hole by window not filled, walls touched up with paint so you could see patches on the wall, should of painted the whole wall not touched up. Outside pool loungers need replacing as stained all over.
Amazing facilities fantastic staff members !
Nothing!
Having previously visited the spa in December 2025 and enjoyed our experience, we decided to return and book the Sunday Stay package, which included overnight accommodation, spa access, dinner, and breakfast. Check-in was available from 3:00pm, and we arrived shortly beforehand at 2:45pm. A pleasant member of staff checked us in but informed us that we would need to return at 3:00pm to collect our room key. When we returned, reception was extremely busy, and as a result we were not provided with the complimentary robes, flip-flops, and spa bag included with our stay. As we had received these items directly from the spa during our previous visit, we assumed this would not be an issue. However, upon arriving at the spa, we were told that we needed to return to reception to collect them. When we did so, reception advised that they had run out of bags and flip-flops and instructed us to go back to the spa. Unfortunately, when we relayed this information, the response and attitude we received from the spa receptionist were surprisingly dismissive and unhelpful. Despite this, we were able to enjoy the spa facilities, which appeared noticeably tidier than during our December visit. However, upon leaving, we discovered there were no towels or shampoo/body wash available in the changing areas. Around 10 to 15 guests were queuing at reception requesting towels and toiletries, but staff had none available. While not a major inconvenience, having to return to our room to shower is not the standard of service one would expect from a premium spa experience. The problems with customer service continued the following morning. We wished to use the outdoor pool and found that our room key would not provide access. When we approached the spa reception for assistance, the receptionist advised, rather abruptly, that access to the outdoor pool was limited to the day of arrival as part of our package. This contradicted information we had received from hotel reception and appeared inconsistent with the information on the website. Although access was eventually granted, our key still failed to work at the gate. At that point, with our breakfast reservation approaching, we reluctantly gave up. Our accommodation was in one of the mews cottages. While the room was small but comfortable, it appeared tired and in need of refurbishment. The bathroom, in particular, required attention, with visible mould in the shower enclosure and a severely cracked shower tray. Aside from looking poorly maintained, it raised concerns about potential water leakage and guest safety. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was one of the highlights of our stay. Despite clearly being very busy due to a wedding taking place at the venue, the staff were courteous, apologetic about the slower service, and worked hard to accommodate guests. While vegan options were limited, the food available was of a high standard and enjoyable. Unfortunately, breakfast the next morning was another disappointment. Upon arriving at the Gardenia Restaurant, much of the buffet was empty. There were no bowls available, which only appeared after several guests requested them, and key items such as pastries and milk were missing. As a result, there was very little to choose from. We waited approximately 30 minutes before an order for hot food was taken. My wife, who is vegan, was not asked about any dietary requirements when we were seated, despite this having been discussed during dinner service. At that stage, her options were limited to vegan yoghurt and cereal. Although we eventually received a cooked breakfast, it was clear that the restaurant was significantly understaffed. Other guests appeared to be waiting up to 45 minutes for their meals, while the buffet remained poorly stocked throughout. On returning to our room after breakfast, we discovered there was no water supply. It became apparent that this issue affected the entire hotel and spa, resulting in the closure of the facilities. While I fully appreciate that this was outside the hotel's control, the response again highlighted the apparent lack of staffing. Reception was overwhelmed, with around 50 guests queuing and only a single receptionist available to assist. Spa guests had all been directed to hotel reception to discuss refunds or rebooking arrangements, creating an impossible situation for the member of staff on duty. We had intended to raise our concerns during check-out, but due to the lengthy queue and our need to leave, we instead used the express check-out service. Overall, the experience was hugely disappointing, particularly as this was intended to be a special anniversary getaway. Having enjoyed our previous visit in December 2025, the contrast was stark. Throughout our stay, the hotel appeared significantly understaffed, and while many employees were doing their best under difficult circumstances, the service levels and guest experience suffered as a result. Unfortunately, based on this visit, we would not be able to recommend the hotel and spa to others.
Beautiful main house
Mews accommodation and spa cleanliness
Spa facilities were really well kept, breakfast was good but charging extra for coffee was not what we expected. The manor is definetly the star, but also the grounds were very nice
Extra charge for coffee, extra charge for external pool, extra charge for spa. And the food at the spa restaurant was really bland and cold.
Historic characterful hotel….location to the tunnel….onsite parking.
Nothing…..a little tired in certain areas but on the whole this place is real value for money.
I really enjoyed the gym facilities and a mid evening swim in the outdoor pool after I’d had a walk around the grounds.
Fresh toast at breakfast would be a BIG PLUS and NOT to have Such Weak Coffee… It DID TASTE LIKE Flavoured Water..!!! The Other Bugbear was the Most UNcomfortable Pillows…!!!
Attended the Marine Ready training morning with Tobias , was excellent a great experience .
Worst breakfast ever ! Overpriced and tiny
The house is wonderful, the room was massive, great bathroom, comfy bed, Exceptional. The grounds are beautiful and the Spa is perfect! Such a great place to unwind.
Not a dislike as such but in the beautiful restaurant, the food was very well presented but honestly, had no flavour whatsoever! So, I liked the whole presentation, service etc, just wish the chef had tasted the food.
Lovely old building and grounds
Room disgusting.really don’t go there if you expect a 4 star hotel. Grounds lovely just not maintained and dirty
The Spa
The room. Poor service from the Staff.
Spa I presume the spa and hotel are managed by seperate entities as it was like comparing apples and bananas!. Hot shell massage was great - one of the best massages my fiance has ever had! Outside pool was open and good in that heatwave weather.
Check in was really slow. There was 2 couples in front of us but it took 20 minutes to check us in. When we finally did get to the front the receptionist was quite rude (rolled his eyes for example) and made a number of sarcastic comments. The site is a bit of a maze, I did get a map at check in but there was a wedding happening on that day so the usual routes were blocked off. We had an early breakfast booked, reception was locked on the morning so we couldnt get in and had to wander around the grounds, eventually getting in... behind the bin shed. Breakfast itself was fine and the staff were attentative. Its a continental buffet (basic to be honest) but table service for cooked. There was no one at the check in table that time of the morning so we just took a seat but after about 15 minutes we hadn't been seen by anyone so I had to go up and ask. Room The room was a bit old fashioned and the TV only had DTV channels, no smart TV. It was also LOUD no soundproofing so I could hear guests in the corridors chatting and dragging suitcases etc. No minibar or fridge. Bathroom was clean but there is easily space to put a bath instead of just a shower. Overall I was a bit dissapointed, I think next time I'll stick to London or travel into Bath.
Poorly maintained for such an expensive room. The venue was shabby and in some places dirty. The property is trading off of its reputation but hasn’t invested in the upkeep, leaving it feeling disorganised and overpriced.
I used my voucher I received for my birthday. I found the receptionist not very helpful,I had to keep asking her where certain places were. I again asked where the outdoor pool was,so I walked over to it to find I couldn't get in as I should have been given a pool key for the door. Then as I layed there relaxing it was like being on holiday with loads of children around me as they all started coming in with there parents to play. Lunch was better but no air con in the restaurant which made it very hot. I did ask for ice to go in my warm water but never received it. When I left I handed my robe in for the receptionist to just say bye,no have you had a nice day or anything. So over all not a great first time experience really not sure i would go again, very disappointed.
Nice location and groun ds, some friendly and efficient staff, nice room once we changed, good breakfast in the Manor (limited in the spa restaurant), food good but not exceptional. Nice roomy showers.
If booking through Booking.com: read all the fine print and differences in room choices, not an easy task; there are differences even in type of toilet paper. Hotel is geared to 'events' and spa breaks; lots package deals but none suiting our wishes. We chose the hotel because of the outdoor pool, then found out it is at additional cost and for use at set times; found it unfair to pay for full access to 2 pools (indoor one felt like a sauna in the summer heat) and whirlpool, just to use the outdoor one without the time limit; seating around the outdoor pool is limited. Cleanliness is patchy. Faced with a dirty stained carpet in the lift, made me look more closely at everything; cleaning can be vastly improved: toilets crusted, carpets show dust. Maintenance is patchy: even in the better room bit of faucet missing. Small things matter in a luxury setting.
I really dont know where to start with this review but ill try... I am a returning member having had a break for 2 years from old membership due to the poor conditions of the spa, facilities that were constantly out of action equally met with poor customer service feeling an overall, put up or go elsewhere kind of attitude. However, a friend recently visited and said there was a new hydro outdoor pool extending onto the spa, beds in the indoor pool had been upgraded, sauna re done, new restaurant so I decided to give it another go. Well, I wont bother renewing once this membership runs out. Theres always something not working in the spa, the changing rooms are so dated and far too small for the visitors and members they have. I had tried to use the free guest passes for my friends and co ordinate this with treatments upstairs but was told I couldnt book the passes so far in advance in case the spa day package day passes and hotel was busy, so when I did try and book the passes, there was no treatments spaces left to book, tried 3 times same outcome so lost the guest passes and went elsewhere. Trying to get through to the spa is non existent and extremely unhelpful, especially in the treatment room. I really dont understand why staff are so rude here or maybe the level of complaint is so high, this is there general reaction? We also tried the hotel one night when house renovations were going on at our home, and although the room was spacious, it was so hot having just a desk fan for cool air. It was a hot aticky night, left the windows open only to be bitten alive. Air con units should be provided in extreme heat. Then the breakfast..... not pleasant! Tea in a pot was cold, it wasnt even hot enough to infuse the tea bag properly. My husnbands english breakfast look and tasted lovely by his admission, i had a mixed fish omelette which tasted foul like off fish, and was slimy. I couldnt eat it. There is absolute zero atmosphere, literally felt we had to whisper to each other, a light bit of music in the background would be a welcome addition. The night before we sat outside over looking the gardens which are beautiful, but our glass top wicker table was disgustingly filthy. It stank of stale cigarettes in the general area and the table looked like it had never been cleaned... it really was disgusting. Lastly I took my grandson to the outdoor pool in permitted times during the summer holidays, only to be scolded by other older members stating we didnt have wrist bands on.... pointing, glaring, swearing and cursing making our whole experience extremely unpleasant. Other than wear my membership card around my neck, what am I meant to do? They were like vulchers circling for a kill, it was pathetic way to behave. I honestly cant wait for David Lloyd to open in Ashford. The facilities at Eastwell just dont cut it for modern times for the premium it charges. Its such a shame. Won't be rejoining.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED Approximately 10 years ago we stayed at Eastwell Manor and had an excellent experience and as a result I booked to go there again to celebrate my partners birthday. Previously we had a great experience in the restaurant and used the facilities to have a swim. We booked for two nights in a Mews Room. The following morning, we walked to the main Manor House and was directed to the Spa building for breakfast as the manor house restaurant was closed. Here we waited more than 10 minutes to be seen and were presented with the breakfast menu. Eastwell Manor website shows the sort of breakfast we were expecting, i.e a traditional English breakfast but the Spa only has ‘health’ options with none of the usual British Breakfast options. The Spa main option was Steamed Spinach with Halloumi – not a choice I would ever entertain, and the other options were similar. We were advised by the Spa restaurant manager to go to a local Café and that the Manor house restaurant would be open the next day. Unfortunately, this was not the case and yet again, we were told to get our breakfast at the Spa. None of this is shown on the website! In fact, the website does not clearly state that the main restaurant is closed on certain days. In our case it was closed even on a day it should have been open. I would also mention that the whole point of booking a stay in a country house hotel is to enjoy the ambience of eating and drinking in lovely surroundings. However, the Spa is a clinical, modern building with no character at all so there was no comfortable seating or atmosphere. We also enquired about having a swim and was informed that a slot needed to be booked at a cost of £40 (£20 each) as we had not booked a Spa package. Excessive price if all you want is a swim and not use any of the other Spa facilities. Unfortunately, there are lots of websites that you can book the Manor through and the one we had chosen did not have this option, note, a swim in the pool in our previous stay was not part of a Spa package and required no booking or fee. The room we stayed in although clean was tired in appearance and had a badly patched hole in the wall with window blinds that were either shredded on the side or stuck and would not pull down. The shower had two options – waterfall or a hand wand. The wand contained a broken porcelain handle which was sharp and made a cut to the hand. There were marks on the ceiling in several places and the shower leaked into the bathroom. [see photos]. All in all, not the experience we had before and it became apparent that Eastwell Manor was all about the Spa with the hotel taking a second place. There was also an absence of management. We waited an hour to see a manager before we left in order to voice our concerns but were only seen by a Reception manager who clearly had no authority to handle the matter. For anyone staying at the Manor and not intending to use the Spa you will not be able to use the indoor or outdoor pool without fees and a booking. Don’t rely on being able to use the main Manor House restaurant for a normal English breakfast. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING!
Its not a cheap venue by any means, with lots of extra hidden costs, but the spa facilities are good and the manor house stunning. Loved the outdoor hot tub and indoor spa pools! Food choice in the spa is very limited. Young Amira the waitress is new but very sweet 🥰
It was a beautiful place and very picturesque
I thought the pool would be part of the package but we had to pay also there was no extra toilet paper in the room
The location.
The sage restuarant - menu very limited - management of the restuarant sadly lacking - erratic poor service - slow - orders lost - very amateur and unprofessional.
My friend took me on a spa day and I had a really pleasant conversation with emily the lifeguard and she was very helpful during my visit.
Waited 2 hours to get into our room as we were a late booking. No information in the room regarding amenities. One restaurant had no gas due to a power cut. The other didn't appeal to us so we ate out. When we came. back to our room. We discovered there wasn't any toilet paper in the bathroom. Rang Reception but there wasn't any answer, so we had to go to our sons to borrow some of his. When.we first entered the room it smelled of stale cigarettes,. went to the Reception and they offered to deal with smell. while we wete out. Sadly it still smelled when we came.back a couple of hours later. So on the. whole not a good first impression,. let's hope.it. improves.
I have a membership at the Eastwell Manor Champneys and the recent BBQ Hawaiian afternoon the team laid on for members was brilliant. The food was epic, and it was great to see everyone embracing the Hawaiian theme. It also gave us new members a chance to meet with other members. We dipped out of the poolside party as House music isn’t our thing, but had it been Motown, well, I’d never have left! Thanks to all who put this event together, and a major thank you for the ten behind the food.
Perfectly placed for our walk along The Pilgrims Way in beautiful surroundings
The noise until 9pm from the pool music was a bit too much. It would have helped to have turned the volume down or stop such heavy music earlier in the evening eg 19.30
Spa facilities were nice
Only one person working at reception this meant long waiting ques and no one ever answered the phone. No aircon in bedrooms and tv didnt work. There was also beer caps on the floor under bedside table so rooms were not cleaned well. Pillows were not comfortable and very rough bedding material. I also was overcharged for the spa facilities.
My daughter & i got upgraded for the night which was amazing.
A couple of staff wasn't too friendly ( bar lady) & ( spa lady on the desk )
Beautiful location. Very friendly staff who created a super atmosphere. We didn't stay over, but attended a function in the marquee on the lawn. The setting was beautiful & the food delicious & very well presented with a Hawaiian theme to match the tropical party style. All the staff worked incredibly hard in the heat to make it a thoroughly enjoyable occasion. Huge thanks to Alex, George, Immy, Harrison & Tobias & all the Manor house staff for a smashing event & wonderful hospitality. ~ Meg
Very poor and unsettling
Very poor and unsettling
Character
Had to wait 29mins for a drink
Beautiful grounds and bedroom comfortable and spacious
The service was not good. Check in was not pleasant as we were told a long list of things that were not included in our booking (pool access, gym) The breakfast the following morning was the worst we have ever experienced. Waiting for ages to be seated, another long wait for coffee, no bowls to eat anything from buffet. Porridge, yoghurt empty, no condiments for cooked breakfast. No juice. It was appalling
The location and outside appearance of the hotel was lovely. And the spa was pleasant.
The standard of the room was shocking, dirty bath / shower, stains on the carpet and walls, half the plug sockets weren’t for UK plugs, light switches not working, furniture falling apart, having to walk through somebody’s wedding in our robes when visiting the spa, television channels not working. Overall extremely disappointing for the price of the room. Will not be back. It’s a shame because Champneys Spas are considered to be quite luxury, but the standard of the hotel paired with the spa does not meet basic expectations for the price tag they attach.
Clean good surroundings.
My room was infested with mosquitoes and I didn’t get to sleep until four. Also very hot in the room and no air conditioning
I liked all, the gardens, the house was lovely and charming place to seat and relax and order another coffe!...for us was perfect as meeting point with my family coming from Folkestone Eurotunel!...beds clean and lovely and comfortable spacious shower room all nice and brilliant! Definitely will be coming again !
It's summer and it's hot but the fan was enough to keep us cool all night and yes it was silent and slept all night! Wonderful!
Location and grounds, stunning place to stay
There wasn’t really anything to dislike
Nice but there was no hot water during my stay
Spa facilities are good.
The rooms.
Landhuis is mooi
Valse voorwendselen door landhuis aan te bieden. Je zit in de arbeidershuisjes nabij. Kleine kamer vol met muggen. Spa tijden zijn 0700/1000 & 1700/2100. Voor de spa en dergelijke moet je bij betalen.
Very good nice layout and nice place to visit
Never been to spa that had 12.5% tip charge so strange and you have to pay for spa on top of hotel strange but nice hotel will return
everything was generally fine, Location was great as stop over to France and also within lovely grounds. Nice building felt rather special
Room was not very good at night, not the best sleep. Hot clammy and had no air movement
Location and facilities
The room we were given had stains on the carpet, the toilet didn’t flush properly and we had no hot water in the morning. We complained and have asked for our money back, they have offered money off another stay but I have not accepted this and asked again for a reinstatement. Since this we haven’t heard anything.
I only stayed for bed and breakfast, and it served that purpose well. I wouldn't have wanted to be there in adverse weather as you would have to drive from the Mews to the restaurant but as this was good weather the walk between the two was pleasant.
The fact that the outdoor pool wasn't included, or even a dip in the spa pool. The price for a 20 minute swim in either pool did not represent value for money. I appreciate the spa is a premium but when you only want a quick dip there ought to be some sort of allowance.
The staff are kind and professional
Everything is likeable, it is a great place.
Food excellent, cocktails good, high standards of cleanliness
Having to pay extra to use the swimming pool Very restricted times to use the pool No robes in the bedroom Bottles with dead twigs and algae on tables in the dining room Not enough staff on duty during busy times like check in / check out Lacklustre decor in room
I had a 2 night spa break here, meals included up to a certain limit. First night in Maple Cottage (upstairs), sleepless due to a boiler in a cupboard that made a loud noise all night. Room very tired. Moved the next day to a better room, but furniture etc all tired and needs replacing. Broken glass in windows in both rooms. My main issue is, although I asked on checkout whether I owed anything and was told no, when my credit card statement came yesterday there were deductions I knew nothing about. When I rang to query this, I was told that one item was a pastry I had at breakfast, and as I went over the paltry allowance of £6, I paid for pastry AND a service charge! This is ridiculous as I was being served breakfast anyway. Also, at one dinner, I wasn’t credited my allowance, so I’m waiting for a refund. My advice is to refuse to give them your c/card details on check in, and ask for a bill at the end of each meal, so you can pay as you go. Or ask at checkout for a summary of your extra costs.
Having been before I was surprised to see a nice new outside jacuzzi pool but it was closed from 9 when we arrived until about 3. We were told they were chemical testing but surely not all day. The new menu for breakfast was adequate but for lunch the allowance wasn’t enough to include a drink (spas say) and half the food on tng menu couldn’t be ordered til evening so it was limited at best. The beds were all full so we had to go to the outdoor swimming pool where there were beds but it was so windy the parasols were blowing over. There were no staff there. The toilets stunk of urine. Inside the lockers didn’t work with the bracelets and one of the toilets there was broken. I think for champneys this is a disgrace. The all male staff on reception didn’t seem bothered. The visit was ok at best and I’ve had better days there
Champneys gym.. Thank you to PT Georgie , who used her initiative, and decided to take the class outside ( air conditioning not working , in this weather, not acceptable). It was slow , strong , and very professional , making sure we didn’t over work stayed hydrated and always in the shade . Perfect The following day I did a class with new pt Tobias. Good gentle class ( still no Air conditioning) . He read the room , and could see we all were struggling , so he did a 15 mins cool down , breathing, meditation and stretching , which was just amazing … a real skill and much appreciated . Thank you for understanding , keep up the good work .
