Die Lage in der City ist sehr gut! Das Frühstück ist gut!

Das Zimmer und auch das Bett ist sehr klein. Die Klimaanlage war defekt. Wir bekamen daher ein Ersatzzimmer, das allerdings noch kleiner war und auf Reklamation einen Discount.

The courtyard was filthy when I arrived, full of rubbish and litter. I am full of insect bites all over my legs after my stay in the room. Very basic room.

Worst hotel mattresses we have ever slept on. Rooms needed a good dusting and half the light switches did not work in the one room. The other room had functioning switches, but the lighting was very poor. Air-conditioning units were noisy and didn't appear to do much.

Rooms are very dated and tired. Smelt a little foisty. Loud rooms - not a restful sleep.

The reception

40 minutes wait for check in as our room wasn’t ready. Air conditioning was broken so they had installed a large old mobile machine which was very loud. We went to see a show on the night to be told there was no running water when we returned. Could have accepted this but nobody answered calls to reception for updates. We were told 2x that someone would let us know and water would be back on in half hour. I had to physically go to reception for updates. In the end we had to leave at midnight and travel to a nearby travel lodge. Not the experience we were expecting for my daughter’s 18th birthday!

Very friendly staff who were able to meet our needs and have 2 rooms together.

Very comfy bed, nice big bath. Good breakfast.

We had a couple of issues in the bathroom. The bath plug was broken and the Toilet Cistern would not stop running with water had to close the bathroom door during our evening stay....did report the concerning issues to the reception when we handed our key back

Die Lage war sehr gut, die nächste Underground Station Moorgate war schnell zu erreichen und der Bahnhof ebenfalls. Wir sind in Stansted gelandet und sind dann mit dem Stansted Express nach London. Der Zug hielt Liverpool Station und von dort aus waren es ca. 15 Minuten zu Fuß. Das Frühstück war überaus gut und ausreichend, tolle Auswahl und alles frisch und lecker. Das Personal war ganz entzückend und immer freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Dazu fällt mir jetzt spontan nichts ein.

The breakfast was wonderful. As was the staff they were helpful and very kind. The Lobby was beautiful, and I appreciated that they had tea and water there for us upon check in.

The location, there was very little near the hotel. The air in the room was not functioning properly. The room was also much smaller than I expected. I thought I had booked one of the larger rooms, because I had seen that some of the rooms were small. Another issue that I had was the layout of the hotel. It was not a clear layout and felt like a maze.

No working aircon in all 3 rooms. We reported it as we were leaving for the day, to return back to the hotel quite late in the evening. We were told that it would either be fixed, or fans would be placed in our rooms. Neither things happened.

Shower head was left facing to flood the bathroom floor. I had to ask for a robe twice. Room service only available after 10 pm. Being charged for breakfast when it was not open early enough for us to eat.

The room I was in didn't have a working aircon. I was moved to another room with working aircon, but with loose fixtures.

Location fabulous and a really really good breakfast. Nice lobby / entrance area and staff were really helpful.

Mould on the bathroom screen / sealants. Shower was terrible, barely got wet as pressure was so low and controls were very cheap / flimsy feeling so not sure they actually worked properly. Lights very odd - couldn't work out how to turn out from bed, had to remove key card! Lots of old / defunct switches still in place. Bathroom needed a proper deep clean into corners / tiles.

Dopo averci assegnato una camera colma di difetti e problematiche abbiamo chiesto un cambio stanza. Qui il personale ha dimostrato tutta la sua serietà e professionalità: ci hanno accordato il cambio con gentilezza e premura in una nuova stanza grande, luminosa e arredata con gusto. Bagno spazioso e ottimamente fornito. Il personale è davvero il plus di questa struttura e ci ha sempre trattato con premura e cortesia. La posizione infine è ottima, a 10 minuti dalla City.

La prima camera affidata era minuscola, il letto era piccolissimo (buono per una singola) e con un bagno veramente angusto. La stanza aveva l’aria condizionata rotta (cosa che decine di altre recensioni avevano già evidenziato) e non si poteva aprire la finestra trovandosi al piano terra fronte strada, dove peraltro di notte c’era gente che faceva rumore. Questa camera non ha nulla da hotel a 5 stelle. La struttura ha molto da migliorare ma ha grande potenziale.

Excellent location, great staff and beautiful décor. Made my birthday very special with room upgrade, balloons and snacks complimentary in the room. Breakfast was tasty and lots of choice. Spacious rooms and bathrooms.

Location was good, close to the centre of the city but quite quiet. It was well supplied with local transport. The room was spacious and the bed was large. The breakfast had a very wide range on offer and the food was generally good.

Room was good but the air conditioning didn't seem to work so it was quite warm overnight. The en suite was spacious but there wasn't much surface to put things on. The shower was good but the hand spray leaked at the join with the hose. Generally there was little information on how things worked and what the very many switches controlled. The breakfast was good but the room was quite crowded and some of the cooked food (scrambled eggs, tomatoes) was cold.

We arrived late and even though I had sent a message and paid there was a lot of confusion at checkin and it took a long time to "find" our room. We were finally given a room with no aircon, or broken aircon, during the heatwave this was pretty unbearable/

Lovely, comfortable hotel ideally placed between 2 underground stations. The hotel is clean and the food is great. Staff are all super friendly and helpful.

Only small complaint would be the air conditioning wasn’t brilliant and breakfast gets really busy and there’s only a couple of coffee machines so you end up having a long wait for a coffee.

The area was quiet even at night time. The hotel was easy to find. Reception staff were very helpful at check in. Great breakfast with lots of choice. It was good that there was tea/coffee making facilities and iron/ hairdryer etc

The furniture didn't fit the scale of the room so it looked a bit empty. The bed was small. The room definitely wasn't as glamorous as those in the photos online

The staff were exemplary! The breakfast was excellent and the beds were very comfortable. The access to facilities was great and we will be staying again.

There were stains on the bottom of some the walls and the air conditioning wasn't working (a fan was provided)

The staff were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone wanted us to have the best experience. The breakfast was also great. A good spread of continental, cooked, fruit - and all the pastries were really fresh. Well run too. The location was also ideal. Close to a number of tube connections - in the heart of the City of London. Would recommend.

Staff was super kind and always ready to help us. We had a little problem with a curtain in our bedroom, as soon as we asked for help, they solved it. Breakfast was awesome, from sweet to salted, it offered everything someone would expect. It was very clean.

If you're seeing a show at the Barbican, this is a perfect hotel as it's very close by. I also appreciated the included breakfast and found the room to be cozy.

The layout of the hotel is a bit weird as the rooms and facilities are in a separate part of the building as reception/breakfast. I also found the surrounding area to be a bit quiet. There isn't as much available later in the evening as in other parts of London.

Breakfast was good. Basically, everything except for the air conditioner and the safe.

We were staying in this hotel the third time. This time we were given an old room where the safe box and the air conditioner did not function. There was also an issue with the shower. As a result we were sweating and delayed for the dinner with friends. Fitness room could be a bit bigger for the 5 star hotel of such size.

I am a regular at Montcalm Brewery becasue they always give such a warm and professional welcome, the staff are all very attentive and cheerful. Excellent breakfast, very comfortable beds, great location with walking distance to Liverpool Street and transport, restaurants etc.

I like everything about the hotel - most especailly because we try to stay in the main historic building. The bathrooms might need refreshing at some point but facilities are all excellent.

Demandes faites au préalable non prises en comptes, Chambre suite avec climatisation et frigo cassé. Le personnel ne parle pas un mot français ni une autre langue. Pour un hôtel 5 étoiles on en attends plus. La chambre spacieuse mais avec un manque cruel de rangement, ne serait ce pour poser la valise, les serviettes de douche. Bouteille d'eau offerte. J'avoue être déçue de la notation de cet hôtel, il ne mérite que 3 étoiles.

Central location was a huge bonus. Breakfast was exceptional, great choice. Staff attention to detail was second to none, in particular Elaine and her colleagues on reception could not have extended their excellence and assistance any further. Highly recommended for anyone looking a central location and enjoys an extra level of customer service. Thanks again Montcalm Hotel. Keep up the good work.

Aircon was 'on' but no air came out - on an evening where temperatures were in the 30's. i confirmed before arrival that the aircom in this room was working. Working was deemed by the hotel to mean it turned on at the button, not that cold air came out.

Only 2 minor quirks: Lighting in room - too many lights but none gave you great light as very little natural light. Coffee at Breakfast. Not great and queue and get your own from a machine.

Die Lage des Hotels war Hervorragend, gute Anbidnung in die Stadt bzw. alles gut zu Fuss erreichbar. Das Zimmer war von der Grösse sehr gross vorallem für London. Man vergleiche was man sonst bekommt in der Stadt. Das Frühstück war an einem Wochentag wirklich gut. (Möglichkeit à la carte zu bestellen). Am Wochenende war das schon nicht verfügbar.

Grundsätzlich war das Zimmer sehr schlecht am Hotel angebunden, man musste zuerst durch einen Flur, dann an einer Stinkenden Küche vorbei und anschliessend eine Etage runter und dann wieder hoch. Für ein solches Hotel erhoffe ich mir ein besser angeschlossenes Zimmer. Man hat sich wie im Hinterletzen Eck gefühlt. Das Frühsück war am Wochenende OK. Nichts besonderst daher aber auch kein 5 Sterne standart. Im Zimmer fehlten diverse Sachen welche ich als Gast schätze vorallem in einem solchen Hotel. Minibar nicht vorhanden bzw. Leer, Zimmerservice ebenfalls nicht vorhanden (Keine Möglichkeit zu bestellen) und ausserdem keinen Föhn im Badezimmer. Zimmer waren okay sauber, hin und wieder Staubrückstände sowie die Möbel waren alle angeschlagen bzw. Verkratzt.

The lobby interior was very cool. Room was mostly clean, toiletries provided in the bathroom were of a premium quality and the location was great.

Celebrating our birthdays and anniversary here was a massive disappointment. What started as warm service with an offer of free breakfast was clearly just pre-emptive damage control for a broken property. Our first room was sweltering due to faulty air conditioning. Reception wasted nearly an hour promising maintenance and a useless portable unit (in a room with sealed windows), only moving us after we chased them down following a no-show. To add insult to injury, they tried to strip their own free breakfast offer during the room change, sheepishly restoring it only when challenged. The second room was no better, sending a staff member with us to "reassure us". The air conditioning was again broken, forcing said staff to admit property-wide HVAC failures. They promised maintenance and a portable unit a second time, then ghosted us entirely. The bathroom was stained with moisture damage, complete with a dust-choked extractor fan and a shower fixture that looked ready to drop from the ceiling. Being able to open a window in the latter room and a comfortable bed were the only saving graces in a stay defined by one-star management and crumbling infrastructure masquerading as a five-star experience.

I am Post knee replacement and have a crutch but were place on -2 floor. Which was tricky. The air con was broken. Staff were aware of this before placing us in this room. We called reception to advise. We were brought fans. But not moved. We have stayed multiple Times and have not been disappointed before with any of the Montcalm’s.

The bed was really bad, our 3 nights was not good atall, we slept but woke up with body ache. The bed is not good. The hygiene level is very poor. We stayed in room 108s the seat is very dirty,the wall leading to the toliet has spill mark on it. The shower room tiles has sign of mould+ dirty on it. A simple mould remover and a nice wash can sort it out. See if the matress can be changed or top up. It is a great facility but am worried if the management continues in the current state,the hotel will loose its value.

I really liked the breakfast, they had an assortment of options and a pretty flexible timing. Alternatively, it is located next to a number of restaurants which is pretty convenient. The bed was also really comfortable and bathroom was lovely. Additionally, there is a pub right below the hotel that was convenient for last minute drinks. It's in an overall good location too with two train stations and many bus stops giving easy access to the rest of London.

I wouldn't advise booking during a heat wave as the AC wasn't working. The staff did provide a cooler and an electric fan but it was still incredibly hot during the summer heat wave. Though it should be noted that this was the same heat wave that led the government to set off the fire warning alerts.
