The position
Lost a nights sleep through very loud noise three rooms were effected all complained at reception was passed of as didn’t seem to be any one in charge Would not return
Nice and clean. Helpful staff
The value for money was extremely poor. I was charged an extra £147 for single beds as opposed to a double bed. I was also charged £45 for a small fillet of fish and 3 new potatoes. This was not a find dining restaurant and feel it was ridiculously expensive and simply did not need to be.
Very scenic lovely staff dog friendly great place to stay
Beautiful quiet location
Location is good, 5 mins walk into the centre. Fantasic gardens and views. Did not dine at the venue so cannot comment. Bedroom was wonderful, bathroom a little tired. Balcony lovely especially on an evening watching the sun go down. Private jacuzzi very hot (a bit too hot). Refreshments well stocked.
Nothing
Stunning grounds with lovely views, The staff were very friendly and Polite, Location is very good, a small walk into the village with a few bars and restaurants.
The rooms could do with updating, the bathroom in the river view was very old and tired and it was river view however only if you were standing and looking over the balcony as it was not glass. They are very understaffed as the check in person also had to serve at the bar so if someone was checking in there was a long wait to be served. No atmosphere at all in the bar area as very quiet the majority of our stay and the dinner menu was very limited and a la carte which was a shame which meant we had to go into the village to eat rather than chill out after a day exploring!
Location.
A5 across the river is noisy.
Stunning location 👌. We had a great time. Michelle and Mark made our stay extremely enjoyable. We will definitely be staying there again.
Location, service and food
Nothing to report here
Was a little shocked when 1st arrived not what I expected but one inside it is really lovely, the grounds are absolutely beautiful especially if you have fur babies. Every member of staff were amazing so friendly & welcoming. A perfect location can be in Betsy-y-coed in 5 min then back in your hotel so peaceful & relaxing.
Outside could do with lick of paint but nothing really
The most idyllic setting and the staff were fabulous
The lock on our door was difficult That is all I can fault
Accueil parfait, très chaleureux et sympathique. Très bel emplacement, chambres très confortable.
Lit un peu mou
Very helpful and friendly staff.
All good.
Location and staff
Nothing to dislike
The setting is really beautiful!! Tranquil and serene
second time staying here, and the experience was as good as the first one. Dinner was great, and we had the lamb as the main course. Very generous and delicious breakfast as well. The view of the garden and river from the dining room is lovely, and creates a very serene atmosphere. I also enjoyed walking alongside the river bank and the garden with my family. Will definitely recommend this hotel and will try to go there again some other time.
It’s a beautiful building in a fabulous location within walking distance of the village with good parking and walks with a lovely river where you can see ducks, fish, a squirrel and sometimes a fox in the garden.
Nothing
Close to the village but far enough away to be quiet. Good shower room and separate toilet on the ground floor. Very good food and views over the river.
The hotel grounds are amazing staff are very helpful
I wasn't impressed with the cooked breakfast it was quite small the pot of beans where tiny the sausage was very small but it was cooked well..
The location was great, it's walkable to the town. It sits right on the river with great views from the dining area and has a walkable garden. The breakfast has good (small) buffet selection but a solid menu choice. The staff was super helpful and friendly - highly recommend. Big bathroom and good history behind the place. Definitely book early and plan to stay here.
We stayed in Room 6 and the bed was a bit small; I had to actually moved and slept on the floor. And the internet speed was very slow - too slow to do any work (emails) let alone using it for any streaming.
Excellent staff, location, food, drink - cannot fault, perfect hotel!!!!
Riverside location is good, walkable to town.
Restaurant stops @ 8pm. Breakfast starts @8am. Drives very congested days.
Super ontbijt! En enorm vriendelijk personeel
Geen ijskastje op de kamer
Very good location
The location is stunning, under 5 mins from village, very quiet hotel, food was fantastic slightly more expensive then standard but never a bad meal so worth it and staff were lovely
No complaints
The location was stunning. The staff made us feel very welcome. Dinner excellent. They had a good choice of wines available.
Probably the only negative thing was the breakfast. However, I understand it it difficult to cater for particular dietary requirements.
The breakfast.
Quality of the television.
Restaurant serves world class Michelin level cusine Location is very conveniently close to the railway station and the twon
TVs in the room don’t have any smart tv apps options
The staff, the location
The hotel is a bit old but maintained well
Location
So far all ok
Great location. Excellent food. Stunning views
Was only there a night but was very impressed. Staff couldn't of been more helpful.
Beautiful, peaceful, river view property. Staff were awesome, especially Michelle.
The midges
Must visit in Wales. Very serene and calm location. Amazing staff. Will come back
The views from the lodge were brilliant. Close to everything. Lovely staff and would love to go back there again.
Nothing.
The location is beautiful. Staff are wonderful. Claris our waitress was so kind. Lovely outside bar overlooking the water.
Lighting in our room, no lamps apart from stark reading lamp. Food on Sunday night was very average and we were rushed through 3 courses in an hour. The restaurant was empty by 8.15. Furniture in bar very old fashioned.
Spectacular views, very peaceful. Lovely staff. Beautiful lodge
The shower could have used more water pressure
Location and staff are excellent
It was clean
Layout of the rooms was poor, meaning very limited space. On arrival we were informed it was not possible to eat in house as they can only accommodate 20 meals per evening and it was booked out. No alternative in-house dining was suggested. The staff suggested we go to some other venues in town but it took three attempts to fund one that serves food on a Tuesday. The double bed was tiny, and poor quality mattress on a box base. Every movement by one person was felt by another. For the price we paid, all other hotels in nearby towns were much better.
Everything was very good
The shower tap needed repair and the bed was a bit too firm for my liking. The bedding was a bit heavy kept waking up as was too hot
We were renting lodge with riverside view and terrace, and this place was one of the best hotels we've been so far in the UK. It was very quite, personnel was amazing and responsive, food was on another level. We didn't find better place for breakfast or dinner rather than this place. I especially liked how close this place is to nature - it's located just on the shore of the river, so we could seat on the terrace and watch birds. They also have a lovely garden, sheeps, so we literally got a good rest just being there surrounded by nature. Our lodge looked like recently renovated, everything was clean and spot on. I hope to stay at this place again in the feature.
Food prices are comparable with London, e.g. 2 dinner course per person was £55, 3 course £65. The portions are decent though, the food was great, can't really complain.
Hotel was lovely, staff were excellent, location is stunning.
Very friendly small family hotel At the edge of Betws-y-Coed next to a river - lovely views
Absolutely stunning hidden gem here. Planned an Afternoon Tea following a planned activity whilst in Wales for the day. The lady was absolutely lovely and very welcoming. We sat on the terrace to eat, then sat in the sun to enjoy the view with our drinks. Will definitely be returning to stay.
Location was perfection
A lovely friendly welcoming hotel in a beautifully setting
Bedroom was very hot
Loved the grounds and the location on the riverside - so beautiful and peaceful. Our lodge and hotel were both clean and had everything you need for your stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming to us and our dog.
The only thing I would suggest is that the lodges have enclosed verandas (gate to enter) so that anyone staying with dogs can safely let the dog off the lead.
The welcome received from the staff at the hotel was first rate - very friendly and helpful! The meal we had in the evening was excellent quality and very tasty. Breakfast was standard.
The bedroom we had was rather small - although we appreciate we booked last minute (on the day!) and did get a fair discount
The peacefulness of the lodge, the iconic river view, you couldn't get much closer. The convenience of the hotel breakfast and the friendliness of the staff all helped to make it a wonderful stay.
Nothing - loved it
The location was lovely
It just wasn't for us, room was very small, very hot and the smell wasn't great, I don't know if it was dog but I just couldn't stay. The whole area we walked through was very dated. We left, unfortunately we didn't feel comfortable there. I don't know how they have scored such high reviews, very confused. The people seemed very nice and friendly.
Wish I had a wee bit more time to checkout but no big deal whatsoever
The location of the hotel is its best feature. Beautifully positioned by the river with good, easy access to the village and shops of Betsw-y-coed. The location, which they seem to be trading off of, was the only good thing about this hotel.
I booked their Superking/twin room (room 1) described as 'entire unit wheelchair accessible' on Booking.com (I am disabled and use a wheelchair) but found this not to be true. The toilet and shower rooms were separate and only the door/entrance into the toilet had been widened to accommodate wheelchair width. Access to the walk-in shower had not been modified and so it was impossible with door position and and angles to have a shower. Ramp from the car park to reception and room was very steep and was not suitable for wheelchair use. Very difficult for anyone pushing someone either up or down. Room 1 is not in the main block and reached via a path around the building. It is very poorly lit at night and I came off the narrow path in my wheelchair into the shrubbery, which was witnessed by a staff member. However, no help was offered and no follow up from management as to injuries etc. My daughter asked Michelle (reception) if another room was available as we were not happy with room 1 but was met with "no", with no offer to rectify issues or other alternatives. This is not a 4 star hotel in either its facilities or management. The room was dingy, no socket near to either single bed, no wall-anchored grab rails in toilet, no small fridge, a light on the wall with no shade, Wi-Fi turned off at night and beds that were impossible to sit/sleep on as no support. Porterage help with luggage was never offered (though advertised on their website), even though Michelle could see my daughter struggling in the rain and myself in a wheelchair. Craig-y-Dderwen has the potential to be a wonderful hotel, which I feel it once was. Sadly, apart from its riverside location, 3 stars would be generous. We booked a 2 night stay and decided to leave after the first night to find alternative accommodation. Mark (reception) was cold, put our complaints back on us and did not offer to rectify our issues.
The location was stunning. It was a short easy walk into Betws y coed, the hotel was set in stunning scenery, and the staff/facilities were lovely. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
I can’t think of anything other than maybe more lighting on the driveway when its dark.
It was child & dog friendly, warm & welcoming..
Didn't like the fine dining, not because the food was bad. I'm not the find dining sort of person. I'd rather have a hosem menu..
Staff was excellent and very friendly. We stayed in one of the lodges that was very clean and comfortable with beautiful location and views of the river. The dinner was superb! Delicious. We would definitely go back.
The bed in the lodge/cottage unit was a bit uncomfortable. The edges sloped down on both sides so you had to make sure you didn't sleep near the edge. But other than that...the bed and bedding was comfortable.
Food was unbelievable and the views and location are superb. Staff are brilliant and can't do enough for you
Main entrance and reception is a bit dated. Wasn't a double bed, 2 singles put together
Friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Superb location and great accomodation with ramp to make it easier. Delicious food from a first rate Chef (Michelin & Rosettes).
We enjoyed everything!
Brilliant dog friendly hotel. Friendly staff and very cosy.
The location was beautiful the staff was outstanding, my room considering it was standed and dog friendly was large and spotless clean, my dog was just as welcome as we were.
Nothing
Amazing
Friendly staff, warm cosy and in an amazing area

The location was perfect and next to the river was lovely to fall asleep to. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was brilliant. They were very accomodating to our toddler also.
Excellent room really clean excellent food really friendly staff
Nothing
This is really quite an excellent place to stay to see the area surrounding Betws-y-coed! The location is picture perfect and central to all the walking tracks. The staff, with Michelle and Clarice out front, were excellent. Meals were great and the dinner and brekwirst venue was amazing.
Nil
Comfortable bed, very good en-suit, excellent breakfast and wonderful staff. Great location with what looked like lovely gardens which because of the weather we couldn't take advantage of.
The TV, not very good remote - I must stress, this was NOT a big issue. No other dislikes.
Staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much to ask for. Prime and beautiful location, breakfast was perfect. Very dog friendly, she even got a sausage at breakfast. Lovely and faultless stay!
My daughter and I booked a 2 night stay at the Craig-y-Dderwen hotel Oct 2025. As I am disabled I opted for their 'accessible' room which advertised all flat floors, complete wheelchair accessible, wider doors and walk-in- shower. Ramps from car park area to the accessibility room (room 1). Also no offered assistance with luggage from car to room. On arrival my daughter checked in by Michelle who although friendly was not very helpful with no assistance with any luggage and hand pointing gestures when asked the way to our room. I use a Powerchair and the first obstacle was a very steep ramp with a sharp turn down to the reception . It would be very difficult for any one to push someone in a wheelchair up the ramp to car park as far it's too steep. A path went around the outside (which was very poorly lit at night and I almost tipped out of my chair into the nearby bushes as couldn't see the path) of the building to room 1 with a completely unsuitable small ramp off to the door of room 1 with no room to maneuver the powerchair (which is not a large model) into the room. The room itself was not flat and only the door to the toilet (which had no grab rails only a moveable metal support frame that fitted around the toilet) had been widened. The door to the separate shower room had not been widened and was of normal width which made it impossible to get in in any wheelchair because of the angles involved. We complained to Michelle at reception and asked if they had any other rooms available as we were not happy and was told 'no' only had that one. There didn't appear to be many other guests in the hotel and I know they had at least one other accessible room. There was no offer of any kind to better the situation. For the cost and 4 star rating we were expecting a much better experience. This is only a 3 star at best with dingy rooms and misleading info on the room facilities. We only stayed 1 night and moved to another hotel which was less rated but outshone the Craig-y-Dderwen. Mark, who was manning the reception when we decided to leave, was also unhelpful and didn't show any concerns about our complaints or tried help rectify any issues. I most definitely would not recommend anyone with disabilities staying here and if you do my advise would be to steer clear of room 1.
