Location was good, nice quiet area and the actual bedroom was nice
The bathroom looked tatty, sink surfaces lifting and peeling. Bath panel warped. Seriously in need of an update. The bed was very uncomfortable too.
Friendly and welcoming
Bit shabby , stains on window seat cushions , just needs a bit of TLC
Breakfast the pastries was mostly gone by the time we got down, had toast, and cereal and a coffee. The room was huge, with thick black out curtains,
Man talking on phone all night, very loud, and his voice carried everywhere. Was unable to sleep, after trying even moving beds to the single beds, I finally had enough, and was really exhausted and angry, by 5am and so I went out, and shouted out of the door for him to shut up. After that it stopped. But I was very tired this morning. Not the restful nights sleep I was hoping for I'm fairly sure it was coming from reception area, as we were room 301, and it was coming from towards/down bottom of the spiral staircase, Bathroom had an issue getting hot water, had to run the sink and bath for ages, to get it hot enough for a shower, and the drain stank
Clean and tidy. Comfortable bed. What you would expect from Best Western.
Automated check in. Why can’t you put somebody on the front desk. Food was disappointing. Breakfast looked like it needed another half an hour under the grill.
Very comfortable, clean room and ensuite. Very nice atmosphere and furnishings in other parts of the hotel including dining room. Very good breakfast.
The large sliding window to the ground floor apartment needs repairing. The outer section is broken and stuck open a bit. The inner one I couldn't fix shut so it strictly speaking it meant the room and our belongings weren't secure - if anyone wanted to try to move the inner window they would find it could be slid open. I realised that wasn't likely, but a possibility - so needs fixing.
Clean and adequate
Too far out
The location was good and near to the event we attended
The room was extremely hot, with no ability to alter the temperature within the room
De medewerkers zijn goud!
Het is een goede stop voor doorreis en de weg was afgezet naar Ipswich waardoor we 2 uur hebben rond gereden om aan te komen. Daar kan hotel niets aan doen. Ontbijt is wel wat minimaal
Good breakfast
The staff were really helpful. The bedroom was very spacious with a large, comfortable bed. We had two excellent meals in a lovely dining room with, again, excellent staff. We had two superb days and would not hesitate to use this hotel again.
There was nothing we did not like. The bedroom was beautifully made up on the one night.
Dining chairs with tartan upholstery in dining room very comfortable and attractive, Room very good size. Thoughtful provisions like bath mats and tissues. Breakfast enhanced by asking for fresh poached egg. all food which should be hot and plates effectively kept hot by high temp counter
Surface around bathroom sink needs to be repaired as worn. Dull colours but not impacting on comfort. Nice size of garden visible and accessible from dining room could do with some more comfortable seating as picnic benches not good for older people.
Unfortunately the property is very tired and needs some updating.
Furniture was worn and dated, we checked in early as had a wedding to attend, our bags were kindly held, when we arrived gone midnight we were told there would be a night porter. It took several attempts to call him to get access to our room. We didn’t stay for breakfast we just slept and left.
The pool
Good sized rooms, great shower, good breakfast, good bar & dining area
Nothing to dislike, everything was fine
Ut was very nice inside and our room was huge and very comfortable
Unfortunately my daughters room was not very clean
It’s position and ease of access.
Little bit dated but competitively priced.
Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was one member of staff who's behaviour was interesting to say the least. I saw him asleep on the sofa in the lobby twice and while he was folding napkins in the bar area he was burping and talking to himself which was quite off-putting. Spa and pool facilities were good, again in need of a big tidy up, plenty of chipped tiles in the pool and jacuzzi.
Our room itself was very tired and dated, the carpet was awful and the bathroom was not great at all. Cracked tiles, generally dirty, the bath and shower needs ripping out and re doing as there was black sludge around the taps and the sealant. The water pressure was non existent in the shower and the sink wasn't draining properly which obviously needs attention.
It is not much to comment on, it is what you pay for, but the cherry on top is waking up in the morning, trying to get a cup of coffee with my morning cig and finding the night porter...tired shall we say :)) See photo.
Stayed for one night after a nearby wedding. The room was very big, clean and comfortable. It was also nice and quiet, real value for money. For £10 the breakfast was also very good. Only one quibble, the restaurant was not accessible, I was able to get down the 3 steps, but I noticed a wheelchair user had to sit outside the room.
Friendly staff but the disrepair could not compete! The room was is disrepair, especially the bathroom and windows. The bathroom tiles were broken, nearly all sealant had thick mould. The windows we could not open & had to call management to address issues, who eventually through thick cobwebs slide it open slightly, which was a significant safety concern. The Tv was intermittent with the remote broken being held together with duct tape. On calling management they did their best by replacing with a new battery but this was again held in place by duct tape. The overall disrepair of the whole hotel was staggering and by far the worst I’ve stayed in. I think the friendly staff could would do well with a cash injection from BW!
Friendly staff, good breakfast
Needs updating
Swimming pool and sauna facilities we're exellent, room was tidy . Staff pleasant.
The bath/shower mixer tap was faulty and not getting warm at all. Breakfast was fairly minimal considering the cost of the hotel with breakfast . Not a comparison to the Premier inn that is located a couple of miles away
Location is good, only 10min from the centre of Ipswich. Breakfast was good, reasonable selection of items
The building is an old one, which is nice, but there is no aircon, so the fan provided did not really cut it in the very high temperatures. The bench top in the bathroom peeled off on my toiletry bag, not sure if it was because it was damp but has clearly happened to others as the bench top had patches missing when I arrived (now I know why).
Good parking . Good location. Appealing lounge/bar/restaurant areas.
Our room was very shabby . Wallpaper pealing off, worktops in bathroom very tatty. Bath and toilet had marks on them . Food in restaurant was over cooked. Dog in room next door barking on and off during the night.
Visited the premises perhaps four years ago. Since then clearly there has been obvious redecoration and upgrade. Room was spacious, clean and reasonably well equipped. Staff very pleasant and did all they could to be helpful. The breakfast was also very good. No complaints overall sadly no time to utilise spa facilities on this occasion. But would probably opt to stay there again if in that locality.
Nothing on this occasion
This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in . It is filthy and looked to be for building workers and not holiday makers Bedrooms were less than basic and not like the photos . Staff were very helpful but what a dump to work in Time to pull it down and start again!!!
Awful hotel, old and tired, lacking in staff and any customer service, unfortunately I was staying at the hotel the night before my wedding with family, on arrival a group of individuals were drinking heavily in the bar and became disruptive and aggressive towards us to the point I had to take my 13 year old granddaughter to my room as she was scared, we were informed by the staff that these individuals were in fact homeless people from London and the accommodation was being paid for by local authorities, one individual was returned to his room after the threat of the police, I did speak to the manager who although did apologise became defensive and said this was a "one off" which I can't believe, she also made me feel as a paying guest I was being unreasonable bringing this matter to her attention, the following morning the same individual was seen smoking with a can of beer at 8am in the garden in full view of the restaurant, I can't ever get the night before my wedding back and it was really spoilt by staying in this dreadful hotel, don't bother contacting head office as they absolve themselves of any responsibility and just bounce you back to the hotel manager who trust me isn't at all interested.
Another super stay at the Best Western Ipswich. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The cooked breakfast was delicious. It was plentiful and very well cooked. We found all the staff to be very helpful and attentive. We enjoyed exploring the local area and going into Ipswich.
Stayed on business. Good value, comfortable hotel that met all my needs. I needed a clean, comfortable, quiet place to stay whilst on business in the area. Breakfast was excellent. The bar was well stocked. Friendly staff. Absolutely no complaints.
I stay at the best western often for work. The staff are incredible with a special shout out to Teisha and kirstie, very welcoming, always smiling and give amazing service. Food is lovely and the room is very comfortable.
The 2 ladies that work Monday nights are friendly, professional, polite and a credit to the hotel
We had such a wonderful stay here, and we have to give a special mention to Teisha — she was absolutely amazing! She went above and beyond to help us, answered every question, gave great local tips, and made us feel so welcome. It’s rare to get such kind, thoughtful service — she’s a real credit to the hotel. Thank you so much Teisha!
I had a lovely stay with my family over a cuple of days. Both days monday and Tuesday we had 2 lovely waitresses both working reception also incredibly hard working and polite. Food at breakfast and dinner was nice. And rooms clean and lots of room.
Great hotel, good location, excellent staff. Will definitely visit again.
Good location. Nice big room. Did pay extra for a superior one
Just a bit tatty, needs a bit of love, paint-work/ tops in bathroom. Tiles in the bathroom broken.
Convenient to Copdock Hall for a wedding we were attending. Lovely, hardworking staff. Clean room with very comfortable bed. Great for what we paid.
The way Best Western treat their staff is appalling. The lady on reception was fantastic (Louise) but she was having to check in lots of wedding guests and run the bar at the same time a people were getting frustrated with her when it wasn’t her fault. The housekeeping team were run ragged too with so many late checkouts and early check-ins. More staff were needed throughout the hotel. Look after your decent, hardworking staff Best Western or you will lose some good people! Bathroom was very tired, lots of chips out of the worktop. Very hot rooms with no aircon (portable fan was provided though). For what we paid, we didn’t expect aircon to be fair.
Staff friendly, Flexible time for breakfast Free cold water available in reception
No food available to purchase between breakfast and when restaurant opened for evening meal. We had been under impression that the bar which did open at lunch time also served sandwiches, light lunches but there was no food available.! Unless had transport could not get to nearest food outlet during the day!! We had gone to meet up with relatives on a coach trip whose evening meal was at 7pm but they were not allowed to join us to eat at 6pm when restaurant opened which meant we had to wait till 7pm to eat with them , very late for us. Biggest disappointment and problem was no food available during the day and needing transport to get anywhere that had food - no shop or anything in walking distance. Overall had expected more for the price charged.
The bed was not up to standard it was to small for a proper double bed. Being on the top floor was not ideal with a dog and the temperature the room should have had aircon. And a proper glass instead of plastic would be an improvement
When we left
Best not comfy, room was an oven, shower was dribbling, floors uneven.
Lovely hotel, clean and comfy with a good breakfast.
We stayed in the King Suite, the room was large with a superking size bed and a seating area with a leather couch and two armchairs as well as a small dining table and chairs. The bathroom was well appointed with a rainfall shower and the room benefitted from very quiet air conditioning. The lady on reception was very friendly and helpful with checking in. We opted for early check in and decided to add breakfast which at £10 a head we thought was good value. The breakfast the following day was good with a decent choice of continental and cooked items which were regularly replenished. The location of the hotel is perfect for events at the nearby Copdock Hall which we walked to from the hotel in less than 10 minutes.
The hotel looks a little tired from the outside and the reception area decor is a bit dated. Walking through the glass walkway to the rooms was very hot. We didn’t really understand why the receptionist did not just check us in, although she was very friendly and helped us to use the automated check in machine. It is a personal preference for us to have our phones plugged in beside the bed and we could not do this as the plug sockets had blank covers on them. There were plenty of sockets throughout the room however. We did not appear to have a phone in the room to contact reception, so had to dial out on our mobiles.
Pool area lovely, clean and nice jacuzzi, steam room and lounger area. Sauna not on. Food was lovely. Good quality and presented well. The menu looked ok but what came out was much better than expected. Family room was much bigger than expected and laid out very well for family use (room 301).
Dates interior and furniture. A bit dusty and carpets thin. Despite a poster saying ‘this hotel is 100% smoke free’ lots of vaping and smoking occurred outside and just outside the doors to the restaurant. I could see and smell cigarette smoke whilst I waited for dinner. Confusion over menu. Friday night stay and when we checked in we were told menu was restricted only during the weekend. This included only 2 starters and 4 mains. However at the restaurant we were given the full menu. Staff didn’t seem to know which menu was correct and the young boy working the bar and the restaurant seemed quite unsure of what he was actually doing. Restaurant empty yet service slow and unorganised. We were given menus and never saw the waitress again. We had to return to the bar to ask if someone could take our order and then we had to ask for cutlery later, ask for plates to be cleared. Desserts brought whilst we still had mains plate on the table. Not 4* service. Room fine, water pressures and temperature awful. Took 10 mins for shower to get warm.
Convenient
Nothing
It was near our event for a wedding
Noisy doors ,
Quiet, glad that my dog was very welcome. Even to eat they have space separated to go with the dog. Only observation the garden was full of thorny plants. Had to take care.
Just breakfast missed cheese options and more type of breads.
Large comfortable room. Plenty of room to open & live out of both of our large suitcases . So important when yr traveling
All rather tired but that was ok as reflected in the price.
The price, staff were friendly
Very dated hotel, had a big stain on the headboard and the general smell around the hotel wasn't great, smelt like old carpets. However for the price you cant really complain
Hotel okay pool okay room clean and breakfast good.
Hotel communal areas needed a good hoover and clean. Pool needs slight repairs. Not enough staff!, sometimes only one person, not very fair to staff to have to man all aspects of hotel. bar was not open during stated times on your website had to insist they opened up on several occasions.
no aircon , we were not able to sleep very well . We had to transfer to a nearby hotel the next day.
Nothibg
Staff unhelpful. Breqkfast v bad hotel v run down
Convenient location to a function
Bit tired and old fashioned
Location
Hotel looks tired and could do with a deep clean
Staff were great & helpful. Hotel just needs a refurb look a little tired.
All of it
Swimming pool was ok
Everything else & I have made a direct complaint
Nice hotel friendly staff
Great location for events at Copdock Hall, excellent value and a good breakfast.
It’s a little tired and the shower was poor.
Yet to like anything
Dirty
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable bed.
No air con and the room was incredibly hot.
They rely on self service check-in, the machine wasn't working and the staff member behind the desk did not seem to know how to search the bookings and check us in. It was 35 degrees in our room at midnight, the windows did not open fully. The bathroom was tired and shabby, water pressure low and there was no hot water.
The room was lovely and big
We had no hot water in the morning so had cold shower also the plug in the washbasin didn’t work the water just drained away
We were able to check in to the hotel at a late time (11:30pm)
The rooms were unbelievably hot with poor ventilation, the bar staff had poor knowledge of how to make drinks, they were slow, the breakfast was bang average and overpriced
It was a last minute booking on a cycle camping tour because the weather was foul! So location and price was key. Reception staff were exceptional and made space to bring my wet and muddy bicycle inside to dry off all my kit. Room was spacious and clean.
Just as a cyclist - location was more main road and better suited to car drivers. Very convenient however.
Lovely rear garden with access from bar.
All
Nothing
The room had a kettle and tea bags.
The lack of modernisation The pillow cases were stained The bed sheets didn't fit the bed There were dead bugs on the walls The room and hotel was a throwback to the 70's akin to Fawlty Towers. Even the music at breakfast was from the 70's. The breakfast area had flies and they were sitting on the uncovered food. The worktop are around the sink in the bathroom was heavily stained and the toilet had a very slow flush meaning you had to flush it a few times. The showerhead was quite low and anyone over the height of 5'8 would struggle to stand under it. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I wish I'd paid a few pounds more for the Travelodge up the road.
Location Free Parking
No AC, ants everywhere, rooms and hotel looked worn out
The only fault was the shower even on the lowest setting was ridiculous hot to the point we had turn water to the absolute coldest setting which meant there was a tiny dribble coming out of shower head other than that absolutely can’t fault the stay!
Hot water/shower
Ok
Hotel is a bit tired.
Very nice garden, quiet hotel. Didn't really interact much with staff but when I did they were very pleasant
It had a touch of faded glory. Needs a refurb really as feels dated (but clean and well maintained)
Location
First room smell of sewage and the window was broken Second room, we were offered the shower was broken when we went to use it
Great location for racing weekend Clean and comfortable
Nothing
Nice big rooms, bath & shower
Rooms too hot, shower not any good,
Hotel was ok.
The water pressure to shower was very very poor. Tv signal was poor that is not a major pry but the shower pressure after a long busy hot day it was a down side.
Avoid this hotel. We had an absolutely horrendous stay. Upon arriving early for a wedding, we asked if our room was ready and it was. We wasn't allowed it unless we paid £20, which the receptionist rudely demanded Upon returning later that evening, the night porter was on shift and checked us in. Very rude and very abrupt. We asked if there was water in our room, he said yes. After going to our room, we found no water. I went to ask if we could buy some bottled water and he shouted at me, telling me no and I had to go back in the morning at 8am if I wanted some. Upon going for breakfast the next morning, we arrived at 9.25am. Breakfast stops at 9.30am. The waitress shouted across the dinning room, your too late. Breakfast has finished! Then went on to say, chef is still here I'll see if you can have some. We managed to get breakfast. Very quickly and very rushed. Felt very uncomfortable. Upon check out, no receptionist so couldn't report our issues. Very run down hotel. Dirty rooms. Bathroom full of mould. For the price they charge, its disgusting!
Room was a decent size. The hotel offered a decent breakfast. Staff were friendly.
We booked and paid extra for a room with air conditioning. However on arrival we were told that the Hotel didn't actual have air conditioning! We we're offered an additional fan however this didn't really help too much. Apart from that the room was comfortable enough, just glad it was only a short stay.
Hotel is run down, no air conditioning, joinery in the bathroom has completely rotted away as there is no working extractor fan and presumably hasnt been working for many years by the state of the bathroom. Was very expensive for the quality of the hotel, room wasnt very clean, bed was broken. The walls and art on the walls were covered in a childs drawings.
It’s very rare that I’d write a review of a budget hotel but my experience at Best Western Ipswich was bad enough that I feel compelled to do so. I was booked in for one night attending a wedding nearby, there was a group of us staying that were arriving at a similar time. I called at around 12pm to see if I could check in early around 1pm just to drop my bags into the room, after twice being cut off, I eventually reached someone who said my room wasn’t ready but I could check in early (?) for a fee of £20.. I later found out my friends that arrived around 20 mins before me were allowed to check in without issue for free? When I got to the room it had the worst smell, almost unbearable.. yet every time I went past reception to speak to someone there was no-one there. In the morning I went down for breakfast, granted it was in a heatwave but the dining room was beyond sweltering, the aircon seemingly on but having zero effect. There were also ants crawling all over the floor. Upon checking out I spoke to someone about my concerns, whilst she was helpful enough to cancel the fee for my breakfast, I was given a card for the manager to handle any other complaints. I sent an e-mail to the manager on Saturday morning but haven’t had any response as of Monday evening.
Nothing
Stated limited air con and has it in one room in the the hotel.
staff friendly and it has a pool
carpet on the public area smell very bad no aircondtion on the bedroom when it was stated on booking that it has has all airconditoining
Room size
Hotel looks shabby
Given option to stay at different location that was closer to the Norfolk show we attended
Location due to lots of road works as we were attending the Norfolk dhow
Stayed for two nights for a family wedding. Yes the hotel is tired, and sadly no Aircon last weekend 🥵 but we did have a fan. Room was really big, clean and tidy. I did move the tea tray to the opposite side so it was near the plug. Would be nice if there was Yorkshire tea bags in the room like in the breakfast buffet. Bed very comfortable, don't know about the pillows I took my own. Breakfast was lovely everything you could want. Two things though, please separate the bacon when you cook it, the middle slices weren't very warm. Also the handles on the tongs etc get very very hot. The bathroom does need some TLC, shower not very powerful, toilet flush needs some attention and the sink surround definitely needs to be replaced. We found the staff very friendly and helpful ordering taxi's for our party. Sadly the garden looked a bit unloved, and the front does need a sweep. It does have a gym and a pool which non of us realised. My husband has been in touch with the owner and she has explained the reason, very sad. We were in room 106. Would we stay again yes. Is it the Ritz no but for around £120 odd for 2 people for 2 nights bed and breakfast, you really can't grumble.
Ideal location to wedding venue at Copdock Good food
Hottest day of the year no fans in bar or restaurant no aircon
The hotel was comfy, clean and big. We were heading to Copdock Hall for an event so this was the best location.
Comfortable room.Lady on reception (who also seemed to do everything else) was pleasant and tried to be helpful.
The building was very run down with peeling paint and scruffy grounds. We wanted to eat at the hotel as we’d had a long journey but they had nothing vegetarian on the menu as it was a limited menu on a Sunday, so we had to go into Ipswich for dinner.
Had a good gym for fitness Breakfast
Water pressure in the shower virtually non existent
We were greeted by a lovely staff member, Aurora who I’d like to give a special mention to. We were staying for a wedding and she upgraded us for free as we needed a bigger room. Perfect stay and the breakfast was good too!
The only thing I can say that I liked was the staff who were really friendly
The hotel is really tired to do with a makeover. While the room itself was clean, it certainly hasn’t had a deep clean for a very long time. Everything was very old worn out and really could do with a refresh and bought up to the 20th 26th century not 1980s
Location
Windows were rotten thought glass was going to fall out when we opened it . Shower was useless no pressure at all . Whole bathroom needed replacing. Man who checked us in didn’t have a clue what he was doing . Cooked breakfast was a bit sparse.
Friendly staff member on arrival helped check us in. Friendly staff member at breakfast. Bed was big, pillows nice.
Room snelt of stale aftershave on arrival. No air con, fan in room but loud so had to switch it off so quite warm due to weather No parking space available on second night when we got back, had to park on a grass verge, under trees the only available space, didn't want to take up a disabled space a vehicle with a trailer which had dogs in overnight had taken up spaces, dogs were barking and growling which felt unsettling. Confusing which exit and entrance to use to drive into.
Location worked well for our purpose. It was clean but basic, price was appropriate. Bed was comfortable.
Bathroom needing update and there was no deluxe element for the upgrade.
I was travelling solo but as part of a larger group - we stayed here for four nights. We were warmly welcomed, and waved off at the end of our stay, by Moira. My bedroom was very clean, well-furnished, and with a very comfortable bed. It would be helpful for older and/or less able guests if a wall-mounted diagonal grab rail could be installed by the bath. I have raised this issue. Breakfast buffet choices were good, and our pre-ordered evening meals were varied and generally very appetising. Compared to some hotels I have stayed in, the bar prices were reasonable and not overpriced. All the staff were very friendly and attentive.
I chose this hotel specifically for one reason. Your website (and also Best Western website) both say that the hotel has air conditioning. There is no air conditioning at this hotel! The staff tells me that no rooms have air conditioning and the hotel has never had air conditioning. The restaurant was a little scruffy and characterless and the menu choice was appalling. This is never a 4-star hotel! It is sufficiently bad enough for me to send an official complaint.
Very disappointed with failing entry cards to my room even went back to get it sorted. Wifi did not work sometime in the room, TV remote buttons do not work properly with the TV.
Close-by to Harwich, so a short travel from boat to hotel
The kitchen was closed on time we arrived, now we had to go to the Mac
This place sucks big time. Misrepresented location- it is 10 minutes by car to Ipswich and in a field near a village called Copdock. No elevators and dingy looking old hotel. Looks like it will close down soon.
Great location and lots of space
Dated decor
It’s actually a very good hotel in terms of size and location. The rooms were big.
Staff not overly helpful on arrival, couldn’t find my room. Was forced to use self check in machine. Slightly further out, not conveniently located.
Rooms were clean and spacious
Didn't clean the room, for environment reasons The food in the restaurant evening meal was poor, and choice minimul.
