Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The traditional room was spacious and clean. Had my private onsen which I thoroughly enjoyed. The food was tasty, made with local ingredients (Dinner and breakfast were included in my stay). It is close to the main part of the town where restaurants and shops are;so, you don’t need to walk much. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Nothing.
Made my honeymoon amazing with authentic Japanese experience
The private onsen was very nice and the wait staff were exceptionally attentive and efficient.
I LOVED my stay at Hanayura. The biggest selling point for me is the onsen area in the bottom floor. On a rainy day it was totally empty and it was sublime. Just being in the glorious water as little droplets fell all around, coupled with sound of nearby stream, the best word to describe is heavenly. The combination of indoor and outdoor onsen all conveniently in the same space was more than one could ask for. Very beautiful and clean and well-maintained. Just know it gets cleaned everyday from 9:30 am to 2pm. The private onsen in the room was also perfection. I sat in the morning, amid the mist, fog and rain with a face mask and drank my coffee. Actual perfection. The MOST amazing part however was the staff. Everyone was so nice, and welcoming, warm, sweet, and polite,—so refreshing. Even with the translation issues, the professionalism was top notch and the courtesy and attentiveness was clearly there. No language needed. I used CHATGPT to help me with certain phrases and that is all that was needed :). If you don’t want the hotel dinner/breakfast, there are also tons of restaurants, cafes, kombinis, very close and there is a little store with goodies and snacks near lobby. Lobby is beautiful! The ryokan is also very close to Jigokudani, and the hike starting at the hotel was perfect. The rooms are so traditionally Japanese, quaint, tastefully kept, I loved it, even if it’s not modern— news flash (THAT IS THE POINT!) I hope to return one day.
Dinner
Room a little bit old
The food was very good, I think, especially if you were Japanese. For my kids and my wife, who could not eat raw fish or meat, it could be a little bit challenging, but they do provide a generous variety of items. As for the local attractions, this hotel is very well placed. Most things are quite walking distance, and also if you want to get a taxi to the town centre is also quite fast.
I would wish that there would be a choice to the size of dinner and breakfast, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming how much there is. Maybe just a basic a la carte option would be great.
Everything! The hot spring bath on the veranda, great location to visit the Hell Valley - amazing service
If you aren’t a massive fan of traditional Japanese food then this place is not for you.
Wonderful private onsen on the balcony. We really enjoyed the food – we thoroughly enjoyed dinner and were pleasantly impressed with breakfast. The staff was attentive, and everything was great.
Onsen molto bello. Colazione ottima
Cena un po sottotono.
The in room Onsencho
The food tasted great, but the portion size was too small for a satisfying dinner.
The hotel feels quite dated, and the room was not as clean as expected. There were stains on the toilet seat, hair on the table, and the private hot bathtub appeared to have mold. The room was also uncomfortable during the summer. There was no air conditioning, and only a fan was provided, which was not sufficient to keep the room cool. In addition, the blanket was too warm for the season. The in-room amenities, including the tea, shampoo, and lotion, also felt low quality and did not reflect the premium price charged by the hotel.
The reception is exceptionally friendly and flexible. He even upgraded our room for the second night to stay the same with the first night to save us the hectic time to move room
The food that contains mostly raw ones. Maybe we don’t get used to
Had a great time at Ryotei Hanayura. The tatami room was very spacious, and the futons were quite comfortable. Dinner and Breakfast was delicious and recommended with staying here. It was easy to walk to nearby attractions from here. Note that the smell from the lobby can be quite jarring with the nearby hot springs. Thankfully it doesn't spread to the room we stayed in
Had an amazing night here. The open air onsen was great. The room was spacious with multiple washrooms. Staff were friendly and attentive. I appreciated the free shuttle service from Sapporo and they were able to accomodate last minute. The kaiseki had a nice variety of dishes. The breakfast also had a very good variety. Would definitely stay here again
Really enjoyed our stay here in Noboribetsu. It's only a small onsen town but the location was great, a few minute walk from the local restaurants, 711 and attractions. Loved our room with the tatami area and private open air onsen. It was so relaxing to use in the morning and after a day of walking. The public onsens are amazing, very large and clean. The outside onsens were a treat and also covered so can be used even when raining. The 3 inside onsens are very large. The atmosphere was very relaxing. The food at the breakfast and dinner (kaiseki style) was very nice. There is a large shop on site that sells snacks, drinks and souvenirs. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The public onsen baths were great, a few different varities and temperatures. The room was larger than expected with great views over the moutains. Breakfast and dinner were amazing! Alittle pricey in comparison to other hotels however we thought it was well worth it for your own private onsen.
Alittle far from the main stretch/shops.
We were welcomed warmly by the staff. Excellent and prompt service. Loved the open onsen in the room. Dinner and breakfast were great especially during the kaiseki dinner, the service staff was knowledgeable about the courses served and we really enjoyed it. Location was good, about few minutes walk from Noboribetsu Jigokudani Valley. Quiet and conducive environment.
There's no air-con in the room. We were told that once window was opened, natural wind will flow. However, felt slightly warm in the middle of the night.

Also alles in allem super toll! Danke 🙏
great service in a well looked after hotel.
Having traveled to more than 60 countries, I can confidently say this stay will remain in my memory. What started with a small miscommunication turned into one of the most remarkable hospitality experiences I’ve ever had. This hotel feels incredibly cozy and almost bespoke. The traditional Japanese-style room is beautiful and extremely comfortable, the bathroom is great, and the onsen facilities are a true highlight. The kaiseki dinner was outstanding, with impeccable and warm service throughout. The true highlight, however, was the manager, Sakamoto. After a minor issue with our transfer, I received a polite email apology. Upon arrival, he personally apologized to me and my husband. Throughout our stay, he provided attentive, highly personalized service and communicated flawlessly in English, which made a big difference. The most unforgettable moment came when I realized I had lost my wedding ring. After informing him, we went out for the day — and that evening, he returned with it, having found it. It was deeply emotional. He showed genuine pride in his work. It’s clear he sets the tone for a team that treats guests with care and sincerity. People like him make all the difference. We would absolutely return — especially to be welcomed again by Sakamoto.
Nothing
Amazing stay. 5 star experience. Beautiful hotel and traditional environment that was serene and peaceful. It's an older hotel but the upkeep and cleanliness was superb. Staff were friendly, helpful, and kind. Even with my poor Japanese skills they still tried to converse with me patiently, although many could speak English. Plus, in-room facility/hotel guides are available in nearly all languages via QR code in the room. The onsen and in-room tub were incredibly well looked after and everything was clean and comfortable. Location was central to everything. Finally, the food was 10/10 delicious and beautifully served. Highly recommend a stay here and would happily come back again.
Nothing.
Incredibly attentive staff, super professional, and also spoke a pretty good amount of English The room was truly luxurious while still feeling traditional, especially the private bath, which was in great condition The dinner and breakfast were some of the best meals we had on our trip Loved how everything was sakura/flower themed
No notes!
The breakfast is great. You can experience the real Japanese breakfast style.
It was a bit pricey.
This was a once in a lifetime trip for my 30th birthday and it was the best experience. As it was my first stay in a Ryokan, I did not realise that breakfast and dinner would be of such a high standard. Both breakfast and dinner were some of the best things I have ever eaten. We stayed two nights and the hotel had two completely different meals each day for both breakfast and dinner. The seafood was so fresh and delicious - I was able to try a lot of new foods and Hokkaido local produce. This was advertised as a 4 star hotel but everything including the location, hospitality and utilities made it feel 5 star! Great value for money and something I am very grateful to have experienced. Our room had a view onlooking the mountain and it was so lovely to just sit by the window or use the private onsen. I appreciate the staff being patient with myself and my partner who don’t speak Japanese.
The location was nice and remote
The facilities are falling apart and in dire need of repairs. I was charged the onsen tax twice, once online and again at checkout. There was also a bug problem. I killed several beetles and lady bugs inside the room, they were all over my outside bath.
A classic ryokan experience. The food was very well-prepared and presented. There were many nice little amenities in the rooms and hotel, and the staff was unfailingly kind and helpful. Like all the ryokans in Noboribetsu, you are steps away from Hell Valley Park and the little shops and restaurants in town.
I had a room with a private onsen. The onsen was boiling hot. I had to keep adding cold water and stirring to be comfortable. Outlets are in awkward, inconvenient places. Could use better lighting options with lamps for low light.
This is a very elegant hotel, with beautiful decorations and furnishings, attentive staff, large rooms and superb Kaiseki (degustation) meals. Lovely Onsens which include an outdoor pool.
The bathroom was showing its age but that was not a concern for us.
This was our second visit to this hotel. The rooms are very large and we had a bath on the balcony which was fabulous and very hot. The view is good and we even saw a stag. The food was mostly fantantic with a lot of crab on the third night. The outside public bath was beautiful and sitting there with snow falling around was one of the highlights of the trip. It is right beside the bus stop and close to the town and geothermic area.
Some of the food was western style like bacon and eggs which we did not come to Japan for. The TV was not smart.
It was more than we imagined! The experience of staying in this Ryokan was amazing! The view from the huge window was spectacular, a winter wonderland. The room Onsen was so relaxing after a long day of traveling to get there. Great location, easy walking around even in the snow. Free shuttle took us up to the Bear park and then we walked down to the town and other attractions. Staff was extremely warm and helpful! Meals were beautiful and so delicious! Highly recommend this hotel, would definitely stay here again!
Not a bad thing I could see or say about it!
Private onsen and the size and comfort of the rooms
Nothing 😊
loved the vintage feel. Things were clean. Loved the private onsen, it was well maintained. And very hot! Very good facilities, and very accessible by bus after you get to noboribetsu by JR. Dinner was excellent, as was breakfast.
Some people said it was overpriced but I found it was one of the cheaper places with a private onsen.
Onsen in room
Very hard western bed
Located in a quiet area in Noboribetsu. Onsen spa was great. Not a hotel that accommodates large groups of tourists. Half boarding option was also very good and filling.
Heating in the room was centrally managed. So you need to crack open the window to moderate the temperature to suit your preference.
We booked one night stay inclusive of dinner and breakfast. The room was very spacious and well-equipped, including a private outdoor onsen. The public onsen was very good as well, with different types of indoor and outdoor pools. The Kaisen dinner was awesome and exquisite. Breakfast was fantastic too.
It was very comfortable and the dinner and breakfast were exceptional! We enjoyed every second of our stay!
Wish they have laundry and smart tv
