Reviewed Sep 3, 2026For me location was easy to get to and only 8 min from Thirsk racecourse where my event was. Staff were friendly, the evening menu represented quality and value for money. The bed was firm and comfortable and there was a clean and good quality ensuite shower.

Reviewed Aug 3, 2026Freshly cooked breakfast every day. Chef went out of his way to ensure we had what we asked for eg: Tinned tomatoes. Clean and well maintained rooms and hospitable staff. Great value for money. Owner's mother even took us back to train station as no other transport available at that time of morning on a Sunday.
Transport to and from the Kings Arms, very little or no bus service and taxis were hard to come by at times.

For information only, pillow a bit soft for our preference and the oil used to cook the fish left an unusual but not unpleasant taste.

Bed was a bit hard for me, and room was pretty warm, so kept waking up in the night. Couldn't open the window due to loud music being played - not sure if this was at the pub or elsewhere in the village. Despite this, the room was very nice and comfortable, and I had a reasonable sleep!

Das Zimmer hatte leider nur ein winziges Fenster in einen Durchgang, wo auch der Abzug der Küche war.

Never accept Room#2 !! In the first few minutes I discovered the ‘trip hazard’ only a few feet from the room (see photo) plunging me into the wall opposite. Next, the door lock mechanism was broken and I couldn’t get into the room. It took 2 hours of waiting before it was repaired. The window in the room was ‘pointless’ (pun intended) unless you enjoy counting bricks in the wall outside only 15 inches away. Shower water temperature adjustment seemed to offer insanely hot to scalding hot without an attempt to introduce cold into the mix. Furniture was old, but then again so am I. Won’t be back.

Great food, quiet and pretty surroundings, easy parking with friendly and helpful staff. I had to leave early in the morning but agreed to provide some breakfast earlier than usual - much appreciated! Pity I couldn’t have stayed longer really.

The rooms are very nice and always very clean. The food is tremendous, never toomuch bother if you want to alter items slightly from the menu. Well done team. Will be back again later in the year.

The pleasant clean smell that I first experience on entry of my room remained and was not just a simple cover up, it was just very clean thank you!! The cooked brekky was soo good, exemplary! the chief is a genius, I know its sounds to good to be true but it was well cooked with great ingredients. The evening meal I had the night before was to a very good standard too.
I only stayed one night, and would have liked to stay longer.

Reviewed Nov 15, 2025It was, overall a very good experience. The Pub was what one would comfortably expect, menu I thought a bit limited, food preparation overall was above average. This is a Pub with rooms, not a hotel. I intend to revisit the area next year, and will book my full stay at this address.
Found the menu a bit unimaginative … maybe it was simply my visit was the last phase of a fairly long trip. I did enjoy the shepherd’s pie.

We had been in London during the tube strikes (Sept 2025) so after the crowds and mayhem of the city we were glad to feel country breezes and smell the smell of local farm animals when we got off the train. If you're going to Thirsk to visit the James Harriot Museum just know this BnB is a 10 minute car ride from the center of town where the museum is. I probably would have chosen one a little closer to the museum had I realized this but really don't have any complaints as this one was clean and comfortable and Ana did a wonderful job as hostess. She helped me find a launderette and was very pleasant to chat with. The English breakfast was absolutely delicious! We also had supper there one evening and it was a tad more pricey than we'd originally wanted to pay but it was delicious and very filling.
Nothing comes to mind...unless it would be to offer on-site laundry services.
