Made to feel welcome. Had gluten free options for me. First place I have ever been given white and brown gluten free bread at breakfast. Food served very hot, on hot plates. Great for meals whilst chatting.
Both the delicious dinner and full English breakfast we enjoyed were delicious and represented excellent value. Also, the follow-up service which the owner provided in arranging to have an item, which we inadvertently left behind in our room, forwarded to our next destination in Wales, was very kind and much appreciated.
Staff are very friendly, food excellent. Room very clean and comfortable. Great place to stop over on our journey to and from Scotland
Traditional and welcoming , clean rooms and lovely food breakfast and evening meal , nice court yard

Charming traditional village pub
Nothing
Very friendly and helpful staff
Old and quirky with lots of character.
Friendly host, excellent breakfast and great pub
Check in or Pub not available until 5:00pm wasn’t ideal Bedroom and bathroom needs an upgrade
Our third stay , food is lovely, the owners Bev and Chris are very friendly
Nothing i can think of
Amazing property. If I’m ever in the area again I would stay here again. Lovely food as well
The location is ideal when travelling to Scotland and you want to break the journey. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The food offered gives excellent choice. Breakfasts are amazing
Not a lot
The Bay Horse is traditional inn, nothing fancy but good home cooked food, good beer, clean and friendly.
This is not a criticism but it is an old pub so expect creaky floor boards etc.
Nice friendly welcome and throughout our stay all staff were helpful and friendly. A quaint country pub with good facilities and food very reasonably priced
The staff were friendly and very helpful, our room was clean and tidy and the mattress on the bed was the most comfortable we've slept on. Our stay came with a breakfast which was brilliant, you could also order an evening meal which is extra. We didnt eat at night but we could tell those that were ordering food were delighted with what they had ordered. Our stay coincided with thirsk races which was a 15/20 minute bus ride which you could catch outside the pub. Although not a regular timetable it suited us, alternatively you could catch an uber. Overall our stay was really enjoyable, would stay there again.

Lovely landlord and landlady. Fabulous breakfast. Friendly locals to chat too. Excellent location on a bus route to Thirsk or Ripon. Lovely place to stay. 10/10

Comfortable clean room. Super friendly staff. Homely atmosphere.
All good
The evening meal was really nice and the beer in excellent condition. The waitress was polite and helpful. Chris went to a lot of trouble to get things right for us.
Our room was clean but a little cluttered. it has been a difficult summer but I think it would have been helpful to wall mount some of the electrical appliances.
breakfast superb- bed comfortable-evening meal choice very good.
every thing went as expected
It’s quirkiness, friendly and helpful owner, good food
Nothing we didn’t like
We were a party of 8 going to Ripon Races. The location was close enough to get a minibus taxi to the race course and back easily. The inn is an old building and so had an olde world feeling about it, similar to many places in small villages. The host was genial and helpful and a bit of a character. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you needed for a short stay. Food was simple but tasty and well priced. Overall a good place to stay for the races if you’re ok with staying at the inn to eat and drink, as anything else is a drive or taxi away.
Nothing in particular comes to mind, overall we enjoyed our stay as a group.
Very comfy bed. Clean linen and a good sized room.
Die Hilfsbereitschaft des Gastgebers. Die urige Atmosphäre des Hauses.
Das Bett war recht durchgelegen. Das Bad war eine Zumutung.
The location was perfect for our trip to the moors and dales. The breakfast was spot on. The staff and owners were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Evening meals were superb.
The room wasn't cleaned on our 2nd day. Bathroom and rooms could do with an update.
Lovely quaint old coaching inn, stacked with character
Nothing
The very high quality dinner and breakfast, the excellent bath and shower, the warm and welcoming atmosphere of a traditional country inn, and the position of the hotel in the Yorkshire countryside.
The room was very small for two people in two separate beds.
it was welcoming with friendly staff and locals. the room was comfortable and clean. Dinner was tasty and generous portions , as was breakfast. We only stayed one night but we will stay there again .
there was nothing to grumble about
Friendly local village pub Good food . Nice hot water for showers etc
Location for us was good.
The floorboards very squeaky.
The landlord was friendly and took an interest in his guests. The pub was a simple unpretentious village inn serving hearty portions of straightforward food.
Quiet, friendly and not too big
Really old pub ,and it showed, but the room and bathroom were spotless .the bed comfy, and the food was delicious .
It was a few miles to Thirsk ,and Ripon .
The breakfast was plentiful, and very well cooked
On arrival the whole place was dark and dinghy and needs a thorough maje over. It had a musty smell too. Bedroom was also very dated. We attended thirsk races, so cant be sure but my husband has returned home with 3 quite large bites on his scalp and face, which are quite painful. For these reasons we will not be returning.
Chris was super accomodating, really helpful and went out of his way to ensure a smooth check in, even though we were out at a wedding all day and would have missed check in times otherwise! Great peaceful location for us to stay close to a wedding venue near by. Breakfast was really tasty and quick service.
Some of the decor, particularly around the windows was a bit shabby. Bathroom in our room was very dated. We were only there for 1night, so perfect for our needs, but don't expect luxury.
Great country Inn with friendly staff and locals, food was good quality and generous portions representing good value. Location is ideal close to the A1 with numerous places to visit.
Lovely hotel,Chris the host was very friendly and helpful and our room was very clean and comfortable. Our breakfast was pre ordered the night before and was freshly cooked and delicious.
Nothing
Exactly what I wanted to experience! Authentic pub with all the extras!
Lovely friendly, traditional English pub. We have stayed here many times .
Nothing
A quite location, good for exploring the area, great breakfast staff friendly and helpful
maybe a couple of shelfs in the bathroom
Staff and service were excellent. Breakfast was delicious too.

Fabulous country pub and hotel. Lovely staff. Superb food.
Would have liked to have been able to check in a little earlier but no big deal.
Warm welcome and very good breakfast served to order. Friendly bar area used by locals and great selection of evening food options. Very comfortable bed and quiet location for overnight stay.
There is not a lot to do in the local vicinity but great value.
Very good food (we had breakfast and dinner) with exceptionally nice and very efficient landlord and staff. It was just what we wanted for an overnight stay. Everything was well priced too.
The bathroom could benefit from updating at some point
I loved the little garden at the back....plenty of character...comfortable and relaxing... Enjoyed my steak pie
No fruit for breakfast....maybe you had to ask?
The food was excellent from breakfast, you have to book the night before and the portions are big, kept us going all day, then back for dinner, all homemade food, limited menu but delicious food served, again big portions. The room was big with a lovely en-suite, very clean throughout. Hosts was very helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would return. Good location for the races.
Can be very quiet, no background music but nice to hear people talking.
Extremely friendly bar with loads of local characters
Quiet location, fairly convenient for the wedding we were attending. Clean and comfortable. Great breakfast-cooked to order. Friendly landlord and lady.
Some of the decor was a little bit tired and shabby.

Noisy bar
Friendly and helpful landlord. Good rooms. Great breakfast
Location
Management moaned about customers having to get up to cook breakfast and didn't want to be there. Was woken at 7- 7.30, by kitchen fans' breakfast was not nice if you had booked full English you didn't have a choice 😉 left under the heat lamps so was dried up.
Breakfast was excellent, good portions.
Staff food and location were excellent as always
Beds a little uncomfortable
Lovely hidden gem. Beautiful accommodation with great ensuite bathroom complete with shower over it. Fabulous towels.....great size and thick and fluffy too. Beds were soooo comfy and bedding was fabulous. Breakfast was cooked to order so it was beautifully fresh and sooo tasty too.
Decor getting tired and could do with a refresh.
Excellent stay. The rooms were comfortable and the food was exceptional.
Friendly. Traditional old pub/inn. Breakfast as requested, was very good ( standard English good value but the bacon was a little over cooked for us. Fan was provided for the very hot weather while we were there
The shower was not very powerful... but it was as you'd expect for an old building.
Place really tidy and staff really friendly and helpful
Lovely ❤️
Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, plenty of choice and very generous portions. Comfortable room. The pub has plenty of character.
Host greeting and ‘care’ upon our very late evening arrival Basic and old fashioned rooms were nevertheless comfortable and adequate - if a little expensive for what we got Breakfast was great and brilliantly personalised to our requirements/order. Nice man - the owner.
It’s a village Country Pub with nice but basic and old fashioned rooms that are comfy - The ‘public’ areas also fall into that description. So - not that I didn’t like them - it is what it is.
Friendly owners and staff, lovely home-cooked food. Beautiful quiet village
Proper pub

Staff where fantastic and really helpful Food was great Lovely country pub
Cold water in the bath was very slow
as usual and excellent stay, nice room, good parking, great breakfast
nothing
Wunderbar urig und gemütlich
Breakfast good Yorkshire tea
Room directly above an extremely loud fan-couldn’t even drown out with TV. Owner said it went off at 9pm and on for breakfast
Waiting staff & chef knowledgeable regarding allergies and food was tremendous & hearty. We had a gluten free & a dairy free allergy so chef went out of way to help. It was a relaxed and helpful atmosphere and staff were lovely.
The hotel felt a little run down & very dated.
Lovely country pub with good sized, comfortable rooms upstairs. Good value for money. We were also given recommendations on what to do in the local area.
We had a very friendly welcome, the bed was comfortable and the room well equipped with plenty of tea and coffee. We enjoyed the best steak pie we'd ever eaten for our evening meal and the full english breakfast was hot, plentiful, tasty and served with lots of toast on the side with an assortment of jams. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, we'd definitely stay again.
Nothing really, there are lots of stairs which may be a problem for less able bodied people.
Great location. Lovely building with excellent bars.
Nothing.
Excellent breakfast. Real "olde world " village setting. Friendly staff in a place full of character.
Uriger englischer Pub. Frühstück mit allem was man wollte sehr lecker.
Breakfast was perfect. Great quality too. Location was great too. Just off the beaten track and close enough to great venues.

Breakfasts were good.
Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Room was big and clean and comfortable. Lovely pub, we didnt arrive early enough for food but the menu looked good. Breakfast was very nice. Location was perfect for us visiting friends. We really enjoyed our stay
Nothing. It is a very old building and a little quirky but we loved this.
It was handy , clean and friendly .
Nothing to dislike .
Food was great. Everyone was very friendly .
Would have preferred a walk in shower . Rooms need a bit of TLC and updating .
We were made to feel welcome from the start. It was very typical of a country pub. Good food, comfortable bed and a welcome host.
As above
Great cozy atmosphere, great food, very good shower, comfortable bed, friendly hospitable staff. A very enjoyable stay in the countryside .
Friendly welcome on arrival, breakfast delivered on time, good food, handy for A1, nicely individual place to stay
Car parking a bit random but plenty of space
Everything was fine, there were a few squeaky floorboards but this is expected of an older property. We did notice lots mould on the bedroom windows, off putting as this is easily dealt with. We ate our evening meal with them, which was very nice .I did not like the bacon with my breakfast but my partner did, this is down to personal preference.
sort the mould on the windows,no excuse.
Great place for the price. Really good food and the staff and owner were lovely
The inn was a convenient stop off point on our journey to Northumberland. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linen smelt beautifully fresh. The steak pie was exceptional!
If you’re looking for a boutique country inn, this isn’t it. It is an old style pub B&B. Decor is dated and cleanliness in the bathrooms, could be better (the shower curtains definitely need a refresh). Waiting staff could do with some training.
This was our second stay. The owners and staff are great, really helpful and welcoming. The bedroom was comfortable with everything you needed, such as iron, fan etc. The pub food is homemade and delicious. This is a family run pub in a small village with easy access to the motorway and a pleasure to stay at.
Nothing.
We stop in this beautiful pub on our coast to coast cycling trip. It was fantastic experience. Very welcoming owner and bar staff. Food was fantastic. Musaka was out of this world. Thank you
no guinness ... but great selection of local beers
Comfort & restaurant!
Staff very welcoming. Excellent food and beer. Good value.
Friendly staff .Comfortable rooms.Really good food.Bar was very welcoming by owner and the locals
The landlord was very pleasant and welcoming .. food was a 10 out of 10 ..very filling.. the steak pie was full of meat .. breakfast was excellent..
Comfortable, cosy and traditional pub
In a quiet country location, but convenient for the places we visited (York, Thirsk, Whitby, Grassington, Thornton-le-Dale). Even of more convenience to us, having an electric car, was a high speed charging station within 15 minutes drive and always on our route back to the Inn. Staff were great, especially the owner, Chris. They made us feel very welcome. Room was clean and comfortable with a big tv, unusual for such a place. Food was excellent along with the service.
Nothing really springs to mind. I would highly recommend the Bay Horse Country Inn without any hesitation to anyone thinking of staying there.
Staff were welcoming and friendly. Evening menu varied. Fish pie especially good and white choc cheesecake.

Delicious food. Great central location made it easy to reach nearby places. Friendly staff.
Water pressure on shower not too good, but adequate. It definitely did not spoil our stay though.
