Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff was lovely the place was period features quite spectacular really and the location was amazing
The fact that I had to go home😂
THE ROOM WAS EXTREMLY UNCLEAN, COB WEBS DUST NO LIGHTING AT NIGHT TIME AND IT SMELT BAD, EXTREMLY UNHAPPY, IT WAS SO BAD I LEFT EARLY AND BOOKED INTO A TRAVEL LODGE DOWN THE STREET FOR THE REST OF MY STAY
The lady on reception was polite.
The hotel as a whole was a lot more outdated than I envisaged and the rooms very basic and not overly clean. It was 'ok' for one night and the bed was fairly comfy, but I had expected more from many other reviews that I'd read. As a solo female traveller I didn't feel particularly at ease using a code and coming in the side door at night directly into the stairwell.
Nice little room and balcony was good 👍
Toilet flush very loud and went on for ages.
Excellent service from the owner on arrival
Little bit dated ,but just what I expected for the cost
Lovely hotel, very friendly staff. Very large, stylish, comfortable room.
No complaints
Stayed for four nights. Comfy bed. Clean. Staff were so lovely and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely. Close to town centre. Would stay here again. Great value for money
Old fanshioned traditional hotel. Lady owner was very polite and professional on reception. Single room was small but clean and comfortable for my 1 night stay. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment but location is excellent I will definitely rebook when staying in Southport.
Everything was fine.
Comfy bed ,hot water and a brilliant breakfast for £5
Nothing
Very clean and comfortable
Very dated
I've got to say I was a little disappointed with this B&B/Hotel, but I suppose i should have read the reviews beforehand haha. The rooms look OK at first, if a little dated, but the more you investigate the worse it is. There were cobwebs, mold and stains on the sheets. Fortunately the staff made it a bit better as they were so friendly and the £5 breakfast was lovely! Unfortunately though, after a poor night's sleep on an uncomfortable bed, we won't be making a return. It definitely needs a little sprucing up and cleaning. If the mattresses were replaced with new one and the rooms were cleaned then it would be a lovely place.
Absolutely ideal for dogs, patio doors straight into the garden which had plenty of sunshine. Comfortable beds, and good power in the shower.... The hotel is tired looking and a refurb would benefit but for what we paid we couldn't complain..... Side note soft drinks , stubby beers and snacks in the fridge are very expensive plus I would advise you take a pic of what is actually in and outside the fridge 😬😂
I'll just say lack of communication!
Nothing really
It was dirty all round bed was rick hard I’ve ended up with a bed back not impressed at all
Staff were nice
Very dated and felt itchy all the time needs a good clean

The smell of the room
Great staff , always friendly and helpful . Great room , with amazingly comfortable bed and everything you need

Excellent location just away from the town, so is peaceful. The rooms are a great size and fully equipped a genuine comfortable stay. Exceptional value for money and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. This is my second visit to the hotel and will definitely return in the near future
This hotel is extremely dirty. It is very run down. The bed linen is at 20 years old judging by the decor and the pillows are stained and lumpy. The entire place make my skin itch and l mean literally
Central
Very run down
We had a lovely stay and found all the staff to be incredibly friendly and helpful. On arrival, we were shown to our room and given a tour of the garden, which was especially useful as we were travelling with our dog. It's great to find somewhere that's both dog- and cat-friendly! Our room was on the second floor. As there isn't a lift, the staff kindly mentioned that we could request a lower-floor room next time because of our mobility issues, which was much appreciated. The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. Although the décor is a little dated, it was well maintained, and cleanliness is far more important to us. We had breakfast every morning, and it was excellent value for money. Our dog even received a sausage each day, which was a lovely touch! 😁 The hotel is around a 10–15 minute walk from the main street, and there's a large park just a few minutes away, making it ideal if you're travelling with a dog. We'll definitely be booking again and are already looking forward to returning to Southport, seeing the wonderful staff, and enjoying the local sights once more.
Parking
Old and dated
nothing
Garbage in the parking area. Hallway to the room was crammed with items making it difficult to roll our bags through. The room was dirty, disheveled... bed was unmade, pictures on the wall were askew, window opened just a crack and there is no AC. No drapes for the curtains - with the sun rising at 4am. And there were flags on the building which flapped onto the windows making a racket. Bathroom sink was cracked, and the toilet paper roll dispenser was practically in the tub.
Staff made myself and my dog feel welcome and were friendly and helpful. Especially liked the garden, location and that it was quiet and peaceful. Bed comfortable, and good breakfast in room - really appreciated them accommodating dietary needs.
Shower not so good (pressure/warmth), rubber mat in bath would be helpful.
Literally everything
Free parking, nice quite location with a 5min walk to the main street. Lovely host. Clean white towels. Mini bar a nice touch in room even though we did use it.
Outdated rooms, musty smell, just needs a really good clean, lick of paint, new cleaner bedding and pillows. Just needs a bit of tlc and freshening up.
We have just returned from a wonderful three-night stay at the Balmoral Lodge Hotel. We booked a three-night stay through Wowcher for just £129, which included a continental breakfast, a freshly cooked full English breakfast each morning and even a bottle of wine of our choice. We chose the rosé (Rachel's favourite!), and it was a lovely touch that made us feel welcomed from the start. Our room was very spacious, with a large, comfortable double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The shower was perfect at the beginning or the end of each day—refreshing after exploring everything Southport has to offer. The hotel has real character. It isn't trying to be a modern luxury hotel, nor should it be. Instead, it has that traditional, slightly quirky seaside charm that feels warm, welcoming and genuinely homely. It suited the character of Southport perfectly, and within a very short time we felt completely at home. The real highlight of our stay was Marie, who has owned the Balmoral Lodge for 18 years, and her wonderful team. Marie is a delightful host, and nothing was ever too much trouble. She works incredibly hard to make guests feel welcome, and her kindness and hospitality really shine through. We felt genuinely cared for throughout our stay. The location suited us perfectly. It's around a 15 to 20-minute walk into the beautiful shopping area of Lord Street, with the beach, pier and Marine Lake just a little further on. We actually enjoyed the walks, taking in the atmosphere of one of Britain's classic seaside towns. In truth, we hardly watched the television at all because we were having such a lovely time exploring Southport and relaxing. That's probably one of the best compliments we can give. Most importantly, we felt comfortable, safe and completely at ease during our stay. In fact, we seriously considered extending our holiday by another night because we were enjoying ourselves so much. There is so much to see and do around Southport that three nights simply wasn't enough, and we will definitely be returning. Thank you, Marie and your team, for your kindness, hospitality and hard work. We left with happy memories, feeling rested, welcomed and very grateful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Balmoral Lodge to anyone looking for honest, comfortable accommodation offering value for money. If you're expecting genuine hospitality, a comfortable stay and excellent value rather than five-star luxury, I'm sure you'll leave just as happy as we did.
I read the reviews and thought it sounded Ok. How wrong It was the dirtiest place I have ever stayed. Room 11. Mould, dirty floors and light switches. If it hadn't been late I would of walked out. My 1q year old was in tears. It needs shutting down and scrubbing from top to bottom. Didnt have breakfast? Wouldn't have trusted the cleanliness
My friend and I stayed one night here and had a lovely time. Lord St with all it's shops and bars is a 5-10 minute walk away. It is dated but for the price well worth it, we had breakfast and what a bargain, £5 each. Early check in late checkout, perfect. We had a garden room with little balcony so my friend could just pop out for a smoke. Maria was lovely and everyone was very helpful. We will be back.

Chosen for location, facilities left a lot to be desired. Tired decor, bathroom had broken tiles and appeared to be held together with silicone. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
Cleanliness left a lot to be desired, decor dated. Bathroom needed complete overhaul.
The bar….but it was shut
It looked like fawlty towers and hadn’t been cleaned since it was aired!
There was not much to like. Coffee was okay. Lady was nice at the front desk. Helpful with directions.
bed was too soft, spiderwebs everywhere, dirty and worn out rooms , that was charging an excessive amount of money for 2 nights. Very bad state, worn out, bathroom was bad- caulked over moldy areas, floors are warped, painting is peeling, gringy desk and drawers, Breakfast was bad, wrapped processed cheese and butter was not even cooled, j was served but it looked like over date, the salt and pepper shakers were sticky and not cleaned for a long time. Second day we went somewhere else for breakfast.
Nothing unfortunately
Smallest towel in the world. Mould around bath. No hot water just tepid. Stains on pillow cases. Room extremely tired in decor. Carpet almost threadbare.
Nothing
No proper mattress just thick piece of foam with a sheet on top how can this meet fire regs.
Excellent budget hotel very friendly
Comfortable
All was good
The staff were excellent. Recommended the breakfast for only £5
The hotel was in a good location for my needs also the breakfast provided was good value
The hotel is showing its age and was a little tired
Location was ok and the receptionist was friendly enough.
The room we stayed in was stuck in the 1970s. The shower was over the bath , the wallpaper was peeling off the wall, there was only one bath towel between the two of us. The sheets and duvets had seen much better days. It was cheaper than other hotels in Southport so we knew it wouldn’t be top notch, but it was still disappointing .
Breakfast very good
Needs updating our mattress was like a giant sponge duvet and covers need new ones bath mats very shabby
Loved Maria ,lovely French lady, room big ,yes outdated ,but price reflects this .good breakfast ..bed super comfy ,slept like a baby 👶
A little more attention to skirting boards by house keeping ,but a guess he /she has many rooms to clean .😒
Clean room and comfy wee bed.Had cold showers due to the heat,so cant say I enjoyed a hot one.Good Traditional English breakfast for an extra £5,Cater continental breakfast also.Maria and Marie very good hosts.Tv and wi fi worked ok.Bus to town across the road or 10 to 15 minutes walk.
All was fine.No complaints
Kindly beautiful people
Very clean large room. Lovely glass doors to private terrace and the garden. I loved the skylight in the bathroom Breakfast for a fiver was great
A bit dated but for the price it's excellent.
Really helpful and friendly staff, and our room with a balcony and garden is fantastic, clean and tidy although a little outdated but that's not a problem, we have really enjoyed our stay, we also had breakfast every day and is really good value for money, pet friendly which is a great thing, we will definitely be booking again for September and really looking forward to seeing the staff and sites of Southport again, Honestly a excellent value for money stay and we rate this hotel 10/10
Friendly and welcoming. Brilliant breakfast.
Bit further from the centre of town than I would usually stay. Easy to reach by bus though.
Good location, decor like from an Agatha Christie novel. Generally clean and quiet.
My stay was during a heatwave. It's not exactly the hotel's fault, but the room was hot and stuffy. They should consider investing is some fans or something.
Good parking - location fairly central
Very hot on second floor (first too)
Ease of checking in
The standard of the room was poor, extremely tired and worn, the mattress was woefully thin and lumpy, the shower pressure was terrible, the TV was very small and there was no cooling fan on a very hot weekend. However to be fair the price was low.
The staff at Balmoral Lodge were wonderful, due to personal circumstances we had to cancel then rebook. Nothing was too much trouble about the booking and we still had the warm welcome as usual. The facilities include WiFi, Fridge, car park and is a 10 minute walk to Lord Street. There is also a full english breakfast for £5. Really good value for the price.
An old building, in drastic need of a makeover. And tons of money spending on it. A walk away into town which was good. The imperial pub with dining up the road. 2 lady staff only working. ( rest of staff off due to sickness. ) The rooms were in a dirty state. Cobwebs and dark hair on the floor in the bathroom. Yesterday I killed a black beetle crawling on the bedroom carpet!! That ginidhed the break. / bought from wow - Cher.
I travel from London to Southport every month for business and have been staying at the Balmoral Hotel for nearly a year. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the location is excellent — close to all amenities such as bars, shopping centres, the beach, cinemas, and with a bus stop literally opposite the hotel. I’ve had a few minor issues, such as a slow shower or no hot water, but the staff responded quickly and resolved them straight away. The prices are very reasonable, and overall it’s great value for money. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
If you are just on hour late from your estimated time of arrival the rude proprietor will cancel your booking without notice so when you arrive you do not have a room and you are left stranded. The arrogant lady did not have the courtesy to even come to the door just shouted via a Ring Cam. Shocking and dreadful customer service. Location is also an issue with the hotel a thirty minute walk from the town centre and beach, not close to both as advertised by the hotel. A taxi from the rail station to the hotel is £5.
The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming and the rooms are comfortable and clean. The garden rooms are lovely, especially in summer. Perfect after a busy day. The hotel is not fancy, nor does it try to be. It is a traditional British hotel in an old building: it has its quirks but it is comfortable and has all of the amenities you expect. The baths are deep and comfy too, very welcome after a day of hard work. After being welcomed so well, I will definitely be back to this little gem by the sea. Great value and very comfy.
A very quiet room close to all facilities and attractions at an affordable rate. Good breakfast served by the host.
Parking was a little hap hazard and tight leaving very little room to get started the next morning.
Location was good. Stayed there a few times
Not enough milk in the room
This is a large old Hotel with lots of history to it. I booked it for my daughters 40th Birthday. All family 10 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 10. Marie the lady I had spoken to on the phone who was so kind and helpful was away seeing family. Maria lovely French lady who has worked with Marie for about 35 years, was there to greet us. Maria's friendlyness help and customer service was outstanding! She made it all perfect for us and the breakfast she served and cooked by herself was really nice. Marie had made sure Maria was aware of my daughter's allergies and got in the special breakfast food she needed. We had garden rooms with our little dog Pearl, so absolutely ideal. This hotel is cheap to stay, a bit dated now but full of charm and history. Merci beaucoup Maria tu etais mervielleux a bientot.
On site free parking. Mini bar fridge. Room clean and comfortable. The hotel has seen better days, but for work stay, it was ok. I would stay again.
Maria our hostess as Marie was away, was absolutely incredible. Wonderful lovely lady who made sure everything was perfect for the 10 of us for my daughters 40th Birthday. Breakfast offered everything and was cooked beautifully. Balmoral is an old building so it is showing bits of wear which is understandable but had everything you need at an excellent price. Merci beaucoup Maria formidable.
As we knew quite a way from the main front at Southport but a good walk. Buses oposite etc. are available.
Location perfect Clean bright room with access to garden
A little dated Could benefit from a refurb
Great location Comfortable bed
Decor and furnishings are very tired Toilet continued to fill for over 10 minutes after flushing. Light over the mirror didn't work
Off road parking on drive . Staff very nice , polite, asked if we needed anything . Location was fine . Fridge goid idea in room.
Very old decor , furniture needed replacing, bed ok but mattress not very comfy . Needed tefresh of paint everywhere , carpets old , decor old and good deep clean needed throughout.
We have stayed at The balmoral lodge many times and have always had a pleasant stay..The owners and staff are friendly..It is comfortable, clean and in a very good location, only a short walk to pubs, shops restaurants and train station etc
First room was very mouldy, the kettle was filled with mouldy gunk and there was blood on the bathroom floor which they claimed was somehow from the cleaning company before giving us a new room which smelt funny but was mostly clean, but it still had a mouldy kettle
breakfast and facilities
very friendly and helpful staff and good service for low price budget guest house, stayed there many times and will continue to use them.
Long time for hot water to run through in the taps and shower, TV reception poor in some rooms.
Rooms are clean and comfortable You are definitely receiving value for money Location is fab for me for work Atmosphere the managers are helpful and always there to help I feel safe as a solo traveller staying at the property
The exit
Everything else. Needed refurbishment 30 years ago. Very dated
I regularly use this hotel when staying to visit my Father who is in care. A no hassle, easy to book hotel with super friendly staff, who always make my stay easy and a pleasure. Marie is a great host.
1st class breakfast £5 ea.
3rooms,2very acceptable 1sub standard
Location was very good close everything. Clean We had a family room so boys had a built in bunk bed with they loved as a added adventure. Free parking Good value for money
The place is looking abit dates and needs updating. Shower was poor.
i have been staying on many occasions on the past few years. Always been looked after good price, good breakfast and a good sleep for a budget hotel will return as it is home from home while i am working in the area thank you to everyone there
The location was good and the bed very comforable . Marie was very helpful and friendly also the breakfast was amazing for £5 .
It's an old building and needs refurbishing but the room prices are very reasonable last
Cost, clean room
Difficult to find, Too far away from shops!
The breakfast was really good value for money.
The car park was too small for everyone's car and we had to road park one night.
Nice comfortable room.
I requested double breakfast and was charged double without being told in advance.
My room was clean and tidy and contained everything I required during my stay.
Staff were friendly, beds were comfy, we had a fridge in the room.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Positioned near town centre, great access transport bus and train. Very welcoming atmosphere. Excellent price the. room has kettle and fridge in it is variety of drinks and crisps . prices for refreshments in room. Staff are friendly and helpful go out of their way to be of assistance. The cooked breakfast lovely and excellent price of five pounds. The Manager was eager to make my stay the best. They were happy to support local restaurants in recommending those in walking distance. Chez moi and little gourmet both reasonably priced and lovely. Any concerns I had for example light not working were replaced immediately. I have no problems recommending the Balmoral lodge hotel. If you are coming to the open golf then bus is outside the hotel and stops in front of the golf course. If you do book here Speak to staff if there is a problem with anything,it will be dealt with. Life is hard enough. Kindness is free. The international aspect is French speaking. The owners have had this hotel for a number of years. Highly recommend near Southport hesketh park and access to coach trips. Bury market Wales 1940s Lytham festival . Also from local history point of view . It was an important place Queens road Southport name after important royal visitors.
nice location just outside the main town about 10 mins walk to the main street room very spacious and comfortable had a balcony and access to the shared garden and had our own bistro table and chairs to sit and have a nice cup of tea check in very pleasant staff super friendly will definately stay again in the future xxx
there was nothing we disliked x
Location is ideal as, the hotel is very old fashioned but that didnt bother me at all. Its very clean and the staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast was incredible value for money. Also nice views from my room over looking the garden
Nothing
Everything
This was an experience never to be repeated! FILTHY!!!! We took on board the comments of being tired and dated, it certainly was all of that, but it was so unclean that when we opened the curtains we were covered in cobwebs. The toilet was a place of essential use only. Pics are of windows, all of which were in clear view so should have been easily cleaned. Bed covers were aged, but they were also so short that they didn't cover our ankles and feet - I am less than 5'. The towels appeared clean and relatively new. Food was on offer, but could not bring ourselves to brave eating there, knowing the rooms were flithy. Would not recommend this Hotel for even a quick one night stop over.
Not much in fact nothing
Everything
Location, room was clean if not a little outdated. Breakfast was good value for money
No hot water in the morning, brew making facilities in the room were barely adequate.
breakfast cold some of it unedable
this hotel needs a lot of money spent on it biggest problem no hot water for a shower in the morning not a fan of cold showers
The staff was helpful and the room was clean comfy bed.
Location good to town. Good parking.
Building needed some loving care.
