Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Very comfortable bed. Good size bedroom. Interesting old building .
It is overpriced considering the lack of facilities.
Everything, the staff on reception were extremely helpful, the rooms were so lovely!
Excellent welcome and host very friendly. offered us a nice glass of wine when completing the check in formalities. Lovely terrace overlooking the Thames to drink a few beers. Fantastic breakfast selection with a possibility to order a full English. I chose the vegetarian version which was excellent. This however, was an additional cost, but worth it.
The bathroom sink was partially blocked, but not a major drama.
Perfectly located for us. Very comfortable bed. Friendly staff.
The room was very small, with no where to sit other than the bed. The shower leaked over the side of the bath, flooding the floor. The tea things were in the wardrobe, and got in the way of the clothes. No long hanging.
Superb location. Friendly and efficient staff. Very comfortable bed. Excellent food.

Perfect location by the Thames opposite Hampton Court Palace & just across the bridge from the station. Staff were all very friendly Breakfast was good
Not good value for money, small room although comfortable had no air-con. Being an old building the floor was uneven. Carpet in the bathroom, very unhygienic! For the price we were expecting a more adult only hotel but there were a lot of families with small children staying (for a wedding being held there) which meant breakfast was noisy & slightly chaotic. There was also a lot of noise late at night from the person in the room next door, admittedly not the hotel’s fault. Our 2 night stay served its purpose for what we were doing but wasn’t the luxury stay we were expecting.
A lovely period hotel in a great location by the river. The sauna was amazing and great value for money.
It was all nice. The restaurant was quite expensive and a bit disappointing but this was probably down to our food choices.
Every member of staff brilliant. Comfy bed and lovely linen. Superb food, a real gem.
Noise from library late at night
Great location. Interesting building. Nice decor. Clean. Good breakfast. Nice added touches such as a small teddy for our baby son. Comfortable bed. Staff friendly and helpful. Lovely view from breakfast room. Free wine on arrival most welcome after long journey.
Extra charge of £40 for a travel cot when not a cheap hotel in the first place. Room far too hot and only fan available was rubbish/ineffective and couldn’t be plugged in by the bedside as no plug socket that would fit the plug. Room too dimly lit for doing make up prior to a wedding. Not very accessible with a pram, needed help up and down stairs on each occasion of leaving the room.
The location was perfect for our visit to Hampton Court. The hotel was well presented with a variety of communal areas to relax in, including a library, and beautiful terrace area overlooking the river. The bedroom was spacious with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Little extras included a welcome drink on arrival and fresh made lemon and earl grey shortbread. The staff were so friendly making us feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door till we checked out. Nothing was too much trouble. The food on offer was good quality and cooked to perfection.
Nothing , just wished we’d booked more than one night !!
The staff at front desk Ashley was a really professionally trained hotelier- during the night she was able to manage challenging situations and u Definitely made the stay more enjoyable-
Staff in the restaurant were a little aloof - the prices were high in the restaurant and food didn’t reflect the cost .
The friendlies of the staff, a very warm welcome. Room clean. Very good position to visit Hampton Court.
The bathroom taps are fitted the wrong way round. You go to turn them on only to discover you need to turn them in the opposite direction.
The hotel was beautiful. The room was superb comfortable beds. Staff very accommodating and very nice terrace for lunch.
Really gorgeous property, I stayed in a smaller sized room and it was quiet and comfortable, little luxurious touches which is rare nowadays in hotels that become popular for weddings like this one. It is right on the water, and you can have breakfast (included) looking out at the boats.
Its a bit pricey, but I also booked really last minute after the place I'd originally booked fell through - definitely worth the spend though if you want a comfortable stay that really keeps up the vibes of Hampton Court:)
Location perfect and many other places to visit

Friendly staff, great views. Lovely courtyard off the room. Big comfortable beds. Parked easily.

I liked where the hotel was situated. The checking in staff, restaurant staff were really warm and friendly. Restaurant food was excellent. Bed was really comfortable. No breakfast tea in the room.
I didn't like the dark room. The room was very warm and the fan provided didn't work. It could be decorated and floors refurnished to brighten the room up.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. Room was lovely and bed/pillows were supremely comfortable.
Nothing really although breakfast was a little disappointing.
Great location lovely room
Beautiful hotel in a lovely location Great food
No air conditioning & our room was like a sauna
The staff are excellent fantastic location for London with the station across the road also for Hampton Court and Kempton Park races
Nothing if being really picky just a couple of very minor decorative issues
Its literally across the road from Hampton Court - it also appears to be the only somewhat traditional hotel :). So actually my expectations were more like: location is everything, but turns out it was a really, really pleasant stay full of friendly staff, comfy rooms, nice food, and a gorgeous location. It was the hottest day ever recorded so yeah it didn't have a proper aircon but they did bring in some standalone units which just about won the battle - Location to the castle is obvious but there are also some amazing parks around.
Honestly i cannot think of anything negative to say - sure it aint cheap but it felt we were at least paying a local company / family :).
Beautiful and with authentic style. Flawless service.
The room was amazing tho a better view would have been nice . Breakfast was fantastic with a number of choices
Great location, wonderful building - idiosyncratic but charming. Overlooking the river with a variety of spaces to eat and drink. Food excellent as was the service in all areas.
The property is beautiful- it’s in a great location and has history. The breakfast was great- the member of staff was very attentive at breakfast, the views were stunning and a good selection. The food was outstanding at breakfast. The wine on check in was also a lovely touch, as was the treats for our dog.
There were a couple of issues with our stay which we find disappointing given the price. The first issue was parking- due to an event (either the wedding or the Tesla event) we had no parking until late evening and were only informed of this on arrival. This meant we were constantly changing space and were stuck. We had 4 hours in one space, then had to move, before we’d have to then check in and move again. In the end because of all the hassle we found a space and paid for it for 2 days away from the property. We messaged and spoke with staff during our stress- no response to the message and staff were dismissive and offered no solutions including where the nearest 24 hour parking was. We were extremely deflated on arrival and were questioning whether to go home. The second issue was the wedding/open to members of public. We appreciate the property hosts weddings which isn’t a problem as such, but they need more staffing around this. The service was slow yesterday in the restaurant and staff were not very attentive. There was minimal space in the courtyard and we got dressed up for a boatrip with the hotel to which we were advised there was no space and when we asked if there were other companies the staff at the boat company wouldn’t provide those details. We had to walk to a separate location to find another company for the boat trip. Overall, the property is beautiful but they are hosting so much within it they forget about their actual day to day guests. However, the breakfast service certainly did make up for the poor service (in places) yesterday. Thank you to the member of staff who served breakfast this morning- he was great.
Room super, air conditioning had been requested as I have health problems and our room did have it. Breakfast was excellent, lots of different foods to choose from. Location super we sat outside on the terrace having a drink, right alongside the river. Staff were brilliant, especially Ashley on reception.
Nothing
It was so pretty, breakfast was amazing!
The staff were very friendly and the location eas excellent with perfect scenery on the river thames.
The only thing I didn't like was we chose a family room but it was a disabled room which the bathroom wasn't ideal for a person like me . For what you pay I was a little disappointed in the room.
Location for the wedding we were attending was perfect. Lovely old building in a lovely location.
No air conditioning in our room and it was so hot.
Beautiful hotel right on the river Thames & directly opposite Hampton Court Palace. Bedroom was very spacious with huge bed. Excellent breakfast, excellent all-round service.
Parking can be a challenge due to limited capacity but there is a large car-park 2 minutes walk away (next to the train station)
As always, another perfect stay at the Mitre! Thank you to the wonderful team who makes our stay special every time, including on this trip when they helped us celebrate a birthday in a thoughtful and spectacular way!
Great location both in terms of the romantic river side setting and access to Hampton Court
Traffic noise from the road.
Staff amazing! Location perfect for us. Food very nice.
Nothing, all OK.
Excellent breakfast in air conditioning which was very welcome in the heatwave
Our first room was not very well ventilated in the heatwave but the staff were kindness itself by relocating us to a much better room at no extra charge
Service as ever was amazing as is the location and breakfast
Nothing
Location was excellent for a concert in Hampton Court - straight across the road! Staff very welcoming and helpful. Very comfortable bed!
Gluten free offerings for dinner and breakfast quite basic, but they tried their best with what they had.
Locatie, service, restaurant
Bad iets aan de ondiepe kant
Fabulous location and gorgeous large room. We enjoyed sitting outdoors in the brasserie watching the boats on the river.
Lack of air-conditioning but we appreciated the desk top fan during the heat.
Perfect location for our overnight stay, with easy access to the train station. The staff were very helpful from accommodating our late check-in, as we had been at Wimbledon, to holding luggage for us the next day. Lovely room and great breakfast- we will be back.
Nothing
Its uniqueness, location and quality
We had air con but my brother and his wife only had a fan and it was warm
Lots to like about this hotel ie location, friendly and welcoming staff in all areas but especially in breakfast room, glass of wine on arrival, clean/comfortable bed and pillows, good breakfast and enjoyable evening meal in the restaurant.
What we didn't like was the parking situation which we gave up on and used the railway station car park over the bridge, £8.70 per 24hrs. Another issue for us was the bathroom (room 206) chipped paint along the shelf above the basin, chipped paint on toilet seat, water damage on bath panel due to badly fitting shower screen and the worst was the unsightly unhygienic carpet/floor covering on the bathroom floor which was stained and got soaked after every shower. Also had electric fan on constantly in room as no air conditioning.
The room was lovely and shower. The breakfast was lovely and having the views looking over the Thames .
They could of remembered to put a card in my Sister room ashe was celebrating her 70th birthday . As this didn't happen the manger let us all have a drink on the hotel which was very nice0
The staff were 10/10 - nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious and tasteful decor with beautiful bedding made it feel like a cost home away from home. Housekeeping did a lovely job. We will most certainly be back.
Parking is a little scares but the team at the hotel make it work the best they can!
Location was excellent as we was going to Hampton Court Palace which was just over the road . Room was lovely and clean but we would have liked a biscuit in our room. Breakfast was plentiful with lots to choose from
our check in as it should have been 3pm and we could not get our room until 4,30
Location to the palace where my event was and nice location on the river
With hot weather - no AC. Quite noisy on ground floor when people walking around in room above but it is an old property so can be expected I guess
From the moment we arrived we were greeted and made to feel welcome. The court room was beautiful and well located to parks, palace and buses. The breakfast was delicious and generous and all the staff were kind and helpful. It’s a beautiful location next to the River Thames.
We are yearly regulars here when we visit the Hampton Court Music Festival. There is always a friendly welcome, the rooms are always clean and comfortable. Breakfast is excellent and very relaxed and great views over the river.
I think the only thing the Mitre really needs to think about now is getting air conditioning into the rooms. With the climate changing and the summer starting earlier I think its a change they need to implement
Lots of character. From the moment we walked in, we were well looked after by staff. Conveniently placed. Luxury rooms. Excellent breakfast.
Beautiful interiors and friendly staff
Nothing
The room was big with a very comfy bed. The location was great as we were going to Hampton Court Palace which was just the other side of the road. Our room was quiet, no road sounds and the staff were very friendly.
Its not so much didn't like but very limited parking spaces, we arrived early so were able to get one. The gentleman looking after the car park was very friendly and helpful.
Everything, it was amazing
Its location is excellent when visiting Hampton Court. The quirky nature of the building was charming and eating on the terrace by the river was just lovely.
Hot tap in our bathroom was loose and moved around when you turned it on.
Fabulous hotel. Great location. Great staff.
Nothing
Excellent location for Hampton Court Palace (attending music festival just across the road). . Friendly welcoming staff, clean and comfortable room and comfortable bed. Nice touch receiving complimentary glass of wine on arrival. Breakfast was very good. Would definitely stay again if attending Hampton Court
Nothing, was all good.
Great position and atmosphere, staff very good and attentive. Parking is a lottery outside the hotel.....limited space but station carpark over the road is cheaper and close. this is a very old property so don't expect all mod cons but it is very tastefully furnished and you feel you are somewhere special with great history.
A heads up on the parking would have been useful
Easy great location for Hampton Court Palace
The Parking should be free for guests, I think
Great location, clean room and very helpful and friendly staff Good breakfast looking over the river
Would have been nice to have a room with better view
Location is great. Lots of little touches that make it special
Not many parking spaces
Lication, friendly staff, parking, river terrace, parking
Very dark and stuffy room, rather tired decor in room, very creaky floors-when people were moving around in room upstairs it sounded like a herd of elephants and one of the light bulbs in the chandelier started to flicker! There was a good TV in the room but it only one comfortable chair it was visible from
The Room, Breakfast, location and staff were excellent, will definately be returning.

Lovely property Great location
Hefty price tag comparible with top London hotels
The Mitre is a historic hotel situated opposite Hampton Court Palace. It has been renovated sympathetically with loads of original and interesting features. There are lovely views of the river from both the restaurant and breakfast room through a huge semi circular window. Room really large with a bath as well as a shower. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast included was very nice too. The staff there were really friendly and helpful, both at reception and the dining areas.
Everything was perfect. The floors were very creaky but that all added to the charm.
Everything was fabulous the greeting we had was the best ever and we have stayed in many hotels even given a free glass of wine and was shown around the hotel and to our room and were given home made cakes too. The bar was great and food was really good all the staff were so friendly and very well trained well done keep it up👌👌👌
The building is lovely, a good comfortable feeling with a nice complement of books, and historic cultural elements. The restaurant was very good and Dan, a manager there, was delightful especially. The Catherine Parr suite was lovely. The Mute Swan pub was excellent for lunch with a diverse menu of tasty food and desserts.
On my arrival I was taken to a room that was not what I had reserved, and while I was shown another room that was nice it was an even lower level of comfort than the first. Only when I showed my room specific reservation was I taken to the Catherine Parr suite - which was being painted. I found this odd and the 4am - 4:30am sound of a man's voice from the Television (which was off) unsettling - especially that the hotel said they had previous complaints but did not check the television in this suite before or during my stay of two nights. - highly unsettling. No compensation was offered for these repeated 4am interruptions. The breakfast did not offer non-dairy milk (almond, oat, etc) and diid not have any dark bread. Otherwise it was very good.
Very handy and convenient property for our leisure. We enjoyed being greeted by a very pleasant, polite lady from Northern Ireland, the evening receptionist was very polite and friendly.
The Bar Staff on the evening blanked us, and served others who were behind us in a “queue “!
Thw whole ambience of the hotel
Dinner could have been better, good menu but food was average
This hotel is quaint, historic and very comfortable. The staff is superb. We had dinner there and the food and service were superb. Literally walk across the street to Hampton Court Palace and overlooking the Thames.
Warm welcome and nice sleeping
Beautiful hotel opposite Hampton Court Palace along side the Thames. Lovely Thames terrace bar and restaurant. We had the most amazing luxurious room.
Nothing, all staff were exceptional and so friendly and went out of their way to make our stay memorable and perfect.
Beautful historical building, nicely furnished rooms named after famous persons from English history and culture, great restaurant with delicious breakfast that was included in our room rate. Friendly and helpful staff at the front desk and in the restaurant, great location across the street from Hampton Court Palace. We got complimentary cream tea!
There was no air conditioner, just a fan in the room, so we had to leave the windows open, and traffic on the adjacent major road was rather loud.
The room was amazing! Such a big space and very private. We had our own little patio space. The bed was very impressive. Breakfast restaurant was gorgeous and a nice selection of continental options.
Not great value for money
Beautiful and historical - just right for the wonderful palace opposite
Nothing really
Great location
The staff on check in were very disappointing. Later in the day when we returned the other lady was much better but the first member of staff was very unhelpful and quite rude
Great hotel. Lovely staff. Very comfy.
The 4 star Mitre has a brasserie. You’d think that the very basic and strangely limited food it serves would be edible. Think again. Crab crumpets: over-spicy mayo with a bit of something that was supposed to be crab mixed in it but you couldn’t tell or taste it as it was 50% mayo. Served on a very cold and old UNCOOKED/ UNTOASTED crumpet! When we pointed out the crumpet was raw and ice cold we were told we could order something else. So this must be the norm. Truly disgusting. Sent back. Calamari: these were rubber bullets, rock hard on the outside, coated in dark, overcooked batter instead of being dipped in flour. And they were cold. However, even these two dishes did not prepare us for the worst fish and chips in history. This was a sliver of fish fried in so much batter that the inside of the batter was actually uncooked. The ratio of fish to batter was about 1 to 5. See the photos. The shots of the cream coloured stuff on the inside of the shell is not bits of fish it’s all raw batter. The chips were industrial frozen whose insides were weirdly tasteless mush. The very sweet waiter was apologetic. He took the crumpet and fish off the bill. He also offered us a dessert on the house so we ordered the rhubarb tart with custard. Oh my god! This was an inedible horror which must have been made by a 5 year old…from a different planet. See the photos. The much too thick “pastry” had been frozen after cooking so was soggy and tasteless. The 4 miniscule bits of rhubarb consisted of 2 things. First, apparently raw dark red to almost black rhubarb which must have been soaked in sugar and dark red food colouring (why?) to offset the crunch and the sourness. Second, some bright gel/syrup which tasted of the sugary food colouring syrup they squirt over ice cream cones from an ice cream van. And the “custard” in the tart was a minuscule amount of something which had zero taste. See the photos. Another worst dessert of all time.
The only thing to like was that Hampton Court was opposite the hotel
Absolutely everything. I planned this trip as a special treat for my mother who just lost my father and was turning 75 alone. She's always wanted to go, well in advance I called the hotel to book a special table for dinner and to make sure it was fit for her being disabled. On arrival, the dinner reservations that were confirmed, weren't confirmed. So I had to rebook an alternative through them. Reminding them my mother needed accessibility, it was her birthday and my disabled brother needed special care. When we got to the restaurant, it wasn't even booked! The front of house was so incredibly passive aggressive and nasty, it ruined my mother's meal for her. The room was end of the street not part of the hotel and up steep stairs. You could not open any of the windows and there was no Aircon, it was like a greenhouse and we spent more time trying to get away from the room, and there was absolutely nowhere to go. The room was on the busiest main road all night into the very early morning, the noise was unfathomable honestly! We barely slept and were so exhausted the next day. The mattress was poor and old, with springs gone and dips from multiple bodies over the years. To top it all off, the room was expensive and filthy. There were body fluid stains on the furniture, the windows were disgusting, dust everywhere, body hair around the bathroom, honestly it was as if they'd remade the bed and gave us the key. The fridge had half drunk milk and bottles in there. "Complimentary" thanks. The "free bar" consisted of a communal gin bottle that many other guests took a lick at and in the room. This room for one night, considered a "feature" cost us £640. It's honestly disgusting? It's taken me a while to scale back the absolute disappointment.
The location, staff, food, and lovely historic ambience. Would definitely return but NOT in summer.
Unfortunately, we were there during an early heatwave and our otherwise lovely room was not air conditioned. They provided a large, bladeless fan and opened windows but as the temperature barely dropped after the sun went down, the room was stifling. We were compelled to grab pillows from the lux bed and sleep on the floor, where it was more comfortable. To be fair, the floor was squeaky clean so there was no hesitation. We are living in a new world climate-wise; a property with a ‘luxury’ placard hanging next to the entrance should consider investing in retrofitting to confront the new reality. As it stands right now, I wouldn’t book again during the summer months, which is an unfortunate thing to say about a property situated literally at the gates of a major tourist attraction.
Lovely room. The maze of hallways and stairs made it exciting to just find my room. A heat wave the day we visited but the portable AC made the room more than comfortable.
Everything was great.
The level of service is what makes this hotel great.
Our only constructive feedback would be to have a fridge in every room. We were in the Royal Mews room in the annex and there was no fridge. We did have our own cool box which we brought along that helped with this.
Location was great as we were just over the road from Hampton Court Palace. We were concerned about the limited parking but we got a space and stayed in it for the lenght of our stay. The porter ran and controlled the parking and was very helpful. In fact all the staff were helpful. The room was a bit quirky as the floors slooped down but thats to be expected in a 400 year building. The facilites were good. We were close to the Royal Park and we walked around it and saw loads of deer.
Personally I thought that the cooked breakfast could have been a bit more for the price we paid.
The position on the river is spectacular and our room, in an annexe, was enormous and very comfortable. Food was exceptional.

Everything was perfect, a fantastic stay, thrilled with the room, the location, took so many photos, staff treated us so well, amazing breakfast and with great views!
Nothing negative.
Lovely hotel on the Thames with a perfect location for Hampton Court Palace. All the staff were helpful and friendly, especially the doorman. Our room was spacious and had access to the courtyard which was nice. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.
No complaints really but the hot water from the sink tap was exceptionally hot. Had to be careful.
Location is beautiful and the hotel itself is unique and very different to the usual corporate style hotels. Very comfortable and staff were excellent. Restaurant was very good too.
Perfect location to visit Hampton Court Palace which is directly across the road. This hotel is faultless. Beautiful breakfast, quaint rooms, lovely amenities and lovely staff.
Nothing
A lovely hotel in a great location. Very clean and comfortable rooms, great breakfast choice. Very friendly and helpful staff. Got a room upgrade which was a lovely bonus.
Parking extremely limited but you can park at the railway station across the road. Drop off/pick up is also easy enough.
Comfy room, excellent breakfast, and friendly staff. The restaurant overlooking the river is particularly delightful
The room was a bit hot due to radiators being on prior - and near the road so we weren't keen to leave the windows open overnight due to noise
Lovely quirky hotel with loads of character and great staff
Not enough plug sockets in room and bedroom quite hot
The staff were lovely from our first greeting, the hotel is fantastic and location cannot be faulted
