Location
On arrival the room had not been cleaned or the bedding changed, the tv did not work and the room was disgusting. It was that bad we booked elsewhere at our cost and did not stay in the hotel. The owner would not give a refund. I have travelled the world and have never seen a room this dirty!
Clean comfortable large en-suite bed room for 1 overnight stay. bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. We both had an uninterrupted nights sleep.
It looked nice from the front
Unfortunately wasn’t great, room needed a lick of paint and level of cleaning wasn’t good. All dust on top of headboard, dusting in general. My husband gets asthma so not good. The bade of the lamps were dirty, cobwebs on ceilings. I’m a cleaner so I notice all these things. The plug in the shower not cleaned properly. Beds were ok. Not worth the price we paid. It didn’t include breakfast. The manager was friendly. Sorry but that’s how I see it
Good location, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Nice & quiet. There is a small bar area and a restaurant- which we didn't go to but seemed nice.
Difficult to park as the main street outside was always busy, and the car park at the park is very small so only fits 3 cars.
The staff were pleasant and the hotel is in a good location on the main street.
The first room we were allocated was dirty and the shower didn’t work properly, it kept overheating and cutting out. We were then allocated a different room which was slightly better but it was also lacking in cleanliness. When we opened the en-suite bathroom door, we discovered two used towels hanging on the back of the door. The shower head was brown, I had to scrub it with my nail brush to clean it before I could use it. The grab handle on the wall, above the bath, came away from the wall completely, which could have been much worse for an elderly person. The electric towel rail wasn’t fitted properly to the wall and was filthy, thick with dust. The light on the mirror flashed continuously, needing replaced. The toilet seat was loose and didn’t fit the toilet properly. The kettle in the room was covered in dust. I had to wipe down a lot of the surfaces, it was obvious the room hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly in a long time. The bed sheets had stains on them. Sadly, I would not recommend staying here.
Location was perfect and staff were friendly
It’s central location. The presence of a bar I was able to relax and chat to fellow visitors.
It felt more like a bar / restaurant than a hotel I had to walk past both to get to my room, this wasn’t an issue it was just unusual. The bathroom was in need of some TLC.
Callander is lovely that is only thing we enjoyed about being there!
Room dirty Cigarette doubts Dust Bed was dirty as well While my partner was walking out of room to go downstairs he cut his hand on the banister screws sticking out it! Carpets were manky need a good clean I wouldn’t even recommend this hotel to my worse enemy!
Location on main street good, easy to walk to shops and cafes Wifi available (although I did have to ask)
Room was at back of building, behind restaurant, so had to walk through diners to get on or out of building Room not very clean, found several spiders and webs in the room, the mattress was hard and lumpy obviously old and worn, tv large but signal poor, bedside lamps were too large for space and hard to switch on especially in the dark
The whole staff were absolutely incredible and kind especially the man and lady on the bar and restaurant they were really nice and friendly and the food was lovely the bed was ok.. And the shower was great but I had to turn it up full wack and change the sprinkler but over really nice 👍
Of course it's obviously an old building and it could really do with a full refurbishmeant in the hall upstairs and bedrooms the bathroom did have mold in the shower but that's an easy fix there was a hole in the sheet on my bed but I am not bothered however the price for 1 night at £126 pound it's not worth it I would pay maybe £50-£70 a night but that's just my opinion I am not having a go on the hotel but with everything I have said I think it would be a very successful holtel/Indian restaurant thanks👍
The location is perfect .. very nice person in the bar to chat too
3 flights of stairs
We found the bed uncomfortable but that might have been because we have a softer one at home .
Great stay
Nothing
Für Familienzimmer sehr großzügig. (Extraraum fürs Kind).
Möbel sehr alt. Zimmer sehr dreckig.
Hab trotzdem super geschlafen.
There was a car park, though quite a small one.
The carpets weren’t very clean - there were dirty looking stains on some of them. There was no provision for breakfast in the hotel.
Location is spot on for being on the high street. Noise levels were fine considering World Cup football match was on that night. Staff were polite and nice with check in. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom shower great.
The car parking is an issue and the car park at back felt not secure and to get to it was going through the restaurant which felt awkward. In the end spaces were available on Main Street outside the hotel that moved my car later on (after 7pm ish). The concept of place is great with a bar and a nice restaurant but maybe in some areas of the hotel part it might need some work on with maintenance in rooms. No check out with staff as left key on side and shut door behind which locked.

I shall try to be as gracious as the circumstances allow, for it gives me no pleasure to write a review of this nature. Regrettably, our stay at The Crags proved one of the more challenging of an otherwise wonderful trip. The room was compact and, I’m sorry to report, had clearly not enjoyed the attentions of a thorough clean for some time—there was a visible accumulation of dust, a cobweb or two keeping company in the corners, and, memorably, a fly that had met its end against the windowpane and been permitted to remain there in perpetuity. Not, perhaps, the welcome one hopes for. The television, alas, declined to work at all, and the bed offered rather less comfort than a weary traveller might reasonably wish for after a day in the Highlands. I would gently encourage prospective guests to view the online photographs with a measure of healthy optimism, as I found them to paint a distinctly more flattering portrait than the reality delivered. A little investment in upkeep would go an awfully long way here—the bones of the place could be perfectly pleasant with some genuine care and attention.
Great location. Comfortable and clean bed.
I booked 2 rooms and both of us had the exact same experienced in either room. Shower randomly turned hot then cold. Shower handle loose in the shower. Lots of dust in the room. Strange set up downstairs. One of us had to walk through the restaurant to get to the room (which was weird later at night with people eating). Had intended on having breakfast but there was absolutely no sign of anyone in the morning... very odd.
Located on main street of Callander. Helpful staff. Secure cycle storage. Comfortable room at rear of establishment in quiet area. Near shops. Indian Restaurant in the hotel.
Nothing really.
Location of as on the main road
The cleanliness is awful, loads of mould in every corner and the shower. Bedding was inside-out, smelly billows, all the carpet is stained and discussing. Called the hotel to change the dates and they agreed because there were availability then went and requested it on Booking and they refused and not only that they told me that “I have to cancel and pay the fee and rebook and pay again” literally.
Location
Very grubby needs complete painting
Convenient location
The bed was solid and not comfortable at all.
Breakfast not available
Could do with a paint job all over.
excellent
Location
Towel in the bathroom not fresh bathroom floor needing grout repaired bath panel wrong side still has wood showing at the bottom of it Room carpet needing a shampoo walls not soundproofed noise from other room unreal
Review 5 Crags Hotel exceeded our expectations. The building is old but very well looked after, and cleanliness was excellent throughout our stay. The Indian restaurant was fantastic—we ate there twice. We noticed a mild food aroma occasionally, but honestly it didn't affect our experience at all. People experience smells differently, so those complaints are very subjective. The management deserves appreciation for preserving this heritage property while running a business.
Some time mild smell of food.
We had a wonderful stay at Crags Hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable, and we had a great night's sleep. The staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and always happy to help, and the locals made us feel right at home The attached Indian restaurant is one of the best we've visited. The food was absolutely delicious, with excellent service and a lovely atmosphere. What made our stay even more memorable was that the team surprised us with a special treat for our anniversary, which was such a thoughtful and kind gesture. It really made us feel valued and added a personal touch to our visit. We would highly recommend Crags Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay with fantastic hospitality and amazing food. We can't wait to come back!
No regrets.
Location
The bedrooms were very tired. We stayed three nights never got room Service in the rooms during the day you’ve got one bath towel per person. Restaurant was advertised as local Scottish produce but it was an Indian restaurant and it was very tired and expensive. Would not recommend staying here not good value for money needs a very good clean.
everything was delicious such a great service

Everything was fantastic apart from the weather which was too sunny . Haha
We loved our stay at Crags Hotel. It's a charming old property with history, not a modern concrete hotel. The rooms were spotless and comfortable. The Indian food served downstairs was one of the highlights of our trip. Yes, you can occasionally smell the cooking, but it's hardly surprising with a restaurant attached. Negative reviews focused only on the food smell seem a bit unfair because it's a matter of personal sensitivity. The staff do an excellent job maintaining this beautiful old building.
Little curry smell from kitchen
Our stay at Crags Hotel was excellent. It's an old heritage property with lots of character, so don't expect a brand-new luxury hotel. Everything was clean and well maintained. Yes, there's an Indian restaurant attached, so you may notice food aromas in some areas. Personally, I didn't find it bothersome, and the food was absolutely delicious. Reviews complaining about the smell are very subjective. It's simply part of having a restaurant in a heritage building, and the management can't realistically eliminate it completely. Overall, the hospitality made our stay memorable.
A memorable stay at Crags Hotel. If you're looking for a modern chain hotel, this isn't it—but if you appreciate heritage buildings, you'll love it. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and the staff were genuinely caring. The Indian restaurant serves excellent food. The occasional cooking aroma didn't bother us at all, and I think complaints about it are largely subjective. The management is doing a commendable job maintaining this historic property while running a restaurant, and both deserve support. We'd definitely return.
nothing all went well
Friendly staff can get food and a drink at the bar.
No taxi services in callender, loud with rge football being on.
Excellent room with connecting room ideal for us. Quiet location and we had a great nights sleep
Nothing
DO NOT BOOK HERE ROOM SO DIRTY, BED SHEETS HAD BLOOD ON THEM, ROOM WAS NOT HOOVERD, ROOM FULL OF DAMP , DID NOT STAY THE NIGHT AND DID NOT GET A REFUND, STAY WELL AWAY
Nothing
Room was dirty ..lots of other things wrong with the room and the property we left after the first night ..hotel isn't manned ..didn't feel safe
Good Location
Hotel looking tired, needs to be redecorated No hairdryer available.
The area
The full hotel is dirty, the room had a blocked toilet for two days, with getting told it would get fixed. Also, over 15 photos off how bad the room was. This has a restaurant also. The toilets are hanging off walls there are flys spiders and wire cable lieing about floors. A have a B.I.C.S certificate, and that is a government certificate for cleaning and training staff. For this is the worst place a have came over. Will never be back and will take this on with local council
In central location near shopsetc
Nothing to dislike
Ruhiges Zimmer, neues Bad, bequemes Bett, ganz nah an Wasserfällen und Wanderwegen
Etwas hellhörig vom Treppenhaus
Great location as we are couple traveling by motorbike, you can stay at hotel and go discover Highlands with no problem. The hotel has back yard so you can safely park a bike. Property has a BRILLIANT INDIAN RESTAURANT - curry to die for 🙏and little bar , good selection of drinks and very welcoming staff! The Owner fantastic, friendly person-he treats us with free drinks and dessert after dinner when he found out that we are celebrating our wedding anniversary- thank you it was lovely 😍no issues with checking in/out!
All good what you can expect in 3⭐️traditional Scottish hotel with Indian twist!
Lovely Indian meal in the restaurant in the hotel
The room was lovely and spacious with a great view
The curtain was falling off the rail and the door was off one hinge
Overall the price, we were there to visit the Bracklinn falls so it was a case of sleep and then explore.
It was a wonderfully hot day and the window wouldn’t stay open, we improvised though. The road outside is noisy but was expected.
Mooie omgeving. Lekker eten en drinken in het hotel. Aardige bediening.
Nothing
Hotel very old and tired. First room we were given had towels still on the bathroom floor and bed not made. Got upgraded to a family room which had been cleaned but still felt old and dirty. We ended up checking out.
A beautiful room with a real wow factor! Very friendly and uncomplicated service – all the necessary information was also available in the room, as well as the option to enjoy a delicious meal downstairs (restaurant area) or simply have a drink (bar in front). Thank you so much for the wonderful stay.
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The location of the hotel and how quiet the room was and the ease of access.
Convenient location
It wasn’t v clean dusty. Room was disappointing, small room not superior, up under eaves. Not v clean - dust on bed side table and light, stains on carpet, ceiling. Broken lampshade. Shower unit broken. Smell of curry permeated throughout from restaurant kitchen on ground floor. Car park only for 2 cars so on street parking.
Ideal location, rooms were clean and comfortable and staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back.
There was no breakfast on offer, however the cafe across the roas was handy enough. Car parking facilities weren't great and we had to step over a wire plugged into an electric car to get into the back corridor. Not ideal for my 80 year old mum. Didn't spoil the stay though.
Noisy as next to restaurant. Bedwas broken and sank at the base. Water pressure for bath or shower roasting or freezing and no pressure
No staff in the morning and no breakfast
Brilliant location for exploring Callander or as a stop over on the way North.
Nothing we did not stay
The room had not been cleaned, beds were dirty and there was a bad smell in the room. We asked if they could clean the room and change the beds. He just said he would phone another hotel to see if they could have us and he would give me a refund but he put us in the cheapest hotel he could find and didn't give me a refund. There was no need to move us we would of been happy if he just cleaned the room.
Zeer vriendelijke ontvangst.
Niets.
Decor and size of room
Not 100% clean and had things left from previous guests. Sofa extremely uncomfy to sit on.
The property was conveniently positioned for our trip , it was part of a Indian restaurant and the food was lovely
The room unfortunately was very tired and need a makeover
The room was nice, clean, spacious
Very warm room - we had a choice of either warm room or road noise. The restaurant smells lovely, shame we didn’t use it. The room smelled of the restaurant. No breakfast option. The room could do with a small fridge for water or personal drinks Staff not to be found in the evening when collecting key. Was told they would be available, but not.
It was centrally located, clean and staff were friendly. I just needed a low cost place to put my head down at night then I was up and put first thing in the morning.
It was fine. I didnt try the bar or the restaurant
We found the room comfortable and clean enough but it was expensive for what it was. Callander is lovely, as is the scenery. I guess that explains the price of the room. The photos made it seem more luxurious
I didn't like that they don't offer breakfast. It was a bit noisy (Street, restaurant downstairs). I'm not a curry fan, so that didn't help.
The room and facilities were very clean and comfortable the staff member who greeted us was very helpful and informative about what was required. Great location of the hotel 🙂
For the price it would be great if breakfast could have been offered
Very friendly staff , cosy bar and comfortable bedrooms
Not my favourite restaurant
It was the most expensive we have stayed in caalander and the only one with no breakfast. Bed needed a new mattress and towels were dirty. Only saw 1 member of staff and he was pleasant
The room wasn't very clean. The mattress was so uncomfortable uneven and towels were stained
I had a really enjoyable stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and always happy to help with anything I needed. The room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped, making it easy to relax after a long day in the hills. The bed was very comfy. One of the biggest highlights is the location, it’s perfectly situated on the high street. It made getting around incredibly convenient. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, friendly, and well located place to stay, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return in the future.
Very friendly helpful gentleman on booking in
Spacious rooms
No towels and no toilet roll and it was noisy from the pub downstairs and smelt of curry
First floor room was ok apart from broken curtain and and tired decor and iron scorch mark on carpet. The two rooms above were very small and tired. One bath room was not clean. We did not know that this hotel was an indian restaurant! We ate well there but it was quite unexpected.
