The Downtown, a Coast Hotel

My main floor room appeared to have a new window and new window air conditioner installed. The way they installed it caused the window not to be able to be latched. Anyone from the outside cud opened it. I felt unsafe. I asked at the desk and was told that’s how it is. Totally unacceptable

It is an old building I realize that. But it’s very messy and untidy. .U can c into the laundry room it’s terrible the office the banquet room. Junk everywhere. The back deck and steps need repair. It is awful to look at.

It was a good location. The room was clean and it was quiet, we also had a fan to cool us off. We found where to go easily in the town and other hotels had amazing food.

The staff seemed uninterested in the guests and weren’t welcoming. They never asked how we were enjoying our stay or even if we needed anything. They hid behind the counter and didn’t even stand to greet any of the guests coming into the hotel. The staff could use some hospitality training. They are under staffed, but the ones we saw never really cared we were there.

Emplacement idéal dans l’artère principale de la ville (nous étions situés dans « l’annexe » juste en face de l’autre côté de la rue). Bon restaurant dans l’hôtel, et évidemment le fameux saloon avec le Sourtoe Cocktail.

Bei mehrtägigen Aufenthalt muss ausdrücklich auf Zimmerreinigung und Austausch der Wäsche im Bad bestanden werden. Was dann auch nur eher widerwillig erfolgt.

La struttura sarebbe bella , ma è piuttosto trascurata. Ci sono le scale per entrare, non è quindi l'ottimo per persone in difficoltà e per i bagagli. La camera è angusta, tetra, piena di mobili inutili. Cosa positiva la macchina x il caffè. Il ristorante è chiuso, quindi nessuna possibilità di fare colazione.. Il saloon adiacente è davvero cadente, poca scelta di piatti .

Great location in town,easy to walk to most sites of interest. Helpful housekeeping staff. Useful to have access to laundry facilities.

Rooms in the annexe have no AC and are hot with the windows closed, noisy with it open. Shouting drunks leaving the hotel saloon bar late at night.

Zimmer sehr klein. Zimmer war im Nebengebäude und dieses war nicht gekühlt. Im Gang stand die Hitze und das einzige Fenster des Zimmers zeigte in den Innenbereich. Lüften/Kühlen auch nachts nicht möglich.

Great location in Dawson and the room was clean with good facilities.

The hotel is getting a bit tired. I was a regular visitor pre covid and it was the best in town which it isn't now. Also, the rooms at teh front are extremely noisy and bar closing town. If you are a light sleeper, make sure you get a back room.

The location in the center of Dawson City. Dawson is incredible. The hotel is home to the famous Sourtoe cocktail with a real human toe, which was very cool. The people in Dawson were so friendly and there was so much to see and do.

Our room was in the annex, which we knew beforehand. That was not a problem, it is a similar looking building just across the street. Our room however (and I’m guessing most rooms) had no outside window, just a window to the interior of the building. This made room a dark, damp and unpleasant place. Upon arrival the smoke detector beeped, we had to ask several times to get it fixed. But it was fixed. The next day our room wasn’t made. So the dark room looked even more uninviting. I asked about it at reception. She said sorry I’ll send someone over. Housekeeping came and said they usually only replace used coffee pads. She did make out room when I asked. When we left I saw a note in the room that due to worker shortages they don’t clean room during stays. OK, I should’ve read that. But I think the hotel should be more upfront and perhaps explain this at check in. I have sympathy for them having a hard time finding personnel and I would’ve felt different if this was explained. So my apologies to the housekeeping lady. All in all it felt more like a youth hostel or a dorm. I get that it’s and old building in a historic town. Perhaps they should adapt the decor to that. Make the interior a pension for gold seekers and all of a sudden a dark room without a window makes more sense.

Wir hatten das schlechteste Zimmer!!!!!!

Zimmer 223 ist unerträglich laut!!!!!!! Direkt am Wirtschaftsraum, Getränkeautomaten und Eisautomaten, was Nachts los war, brauche ich nicht erwähnen. Fenster konnte man nicht öffnen, Klimaanlage so laut und klapperte. Der Wirtschaftsraum wurde auch nachts geöffnet und quietschte ohne Ende. Erst als mein Mann ihnen den Tipp gab, das Oel helfen würde, hörte das Quietschen auf!!!!! Die letzte Nacht war der Höhepunkt, die Hauptklimaanlage ging defekt und es Hämmerte die ganze Nacht. Wir haben 72-76 db, das selbst der Nachtportier nur den kopf schüttelte und sehr bemüht war, das Problem zu lösen! Das Hotel ist einfach zu teuer für diesen Service!!! Preis/Leistung stimmt nicht!!!!!

Der Empfang war ziemlich desinteressiert und mangels eines Fensters nach Außen gab es keine echte Frischluft.

The location was good, being central and close to all of the restaurants.

Air conditioner in room had to be unplugged in order to shut it off. Carpet in room is always a bit of a problem for me. Street noise late at night. Steep stairs and no elevator.

The location is great and the room is comfortable. There is also very good Coffee in the room. We had to get assistence from maintenance to fix the bath tub and the man was very helpful and friendly.

Because of lack of staff room service was only on request and not very thoroughly.

Das schöne alte Haus hat mir gut gefallen, auch war das Personal sehr nett und hilfsbereit.

Das es sehr hellhörig ist und manche Menschen auch dann erst Recht sich laut unterhalten und auftreten wie Ackergäule. Nehmt kein Zimmer im Erdgeschoss.

Room was clean, street parking was easy. There was never a time when I had to park far away. Wifi worked OK.

Room was far too hot. Outside temperatures were 23 degrees by day and 5-8 degrees by night. Despite having a ceiling fan, floor mounted fan, and open window, we couldn’t get the room cool. Layered on top of that first complaint was inconsiderate guests. We were in the annex across the street and that has a communal seating area. All the room windows face inwards into that communal area . Guests were making noise in that seating area beyond midnight, meaning we had to either suffer the noise or close the window and get cooked by the heat even more. No breakfast options. The nearby bistro was queued out the front door at 7am, and grocery store doesn’t open until 8am so we either had to start the day hungry, or start the day late. Bathroom shower was tricky to get the right temperature, and decor was old: It’s a shower over bath arrangement Overall, I get the impression that this is a party hotel. If you don’t care for parties, there are other hotels a bit further away with air conditioned rooms.

Staff were excellent...friendly, informative, helpful & accommodating.

The property is only minimally equipped for accessibility. Stair entrance, no elevator. We were advised on our 2nd day stay of a ramp (out the side, through a canteen type room). No signs to proactively indicate accessibility options. The staff switched our 2nd floor unit to a 1st floor room when our accessibility issues were taken into consideration.

The heating in our room was too hot, not just a bit hot but EXTREMELY. Opening a window did nothing to alleviate it. This did not make for a pleasant night's sleep. I told the front desk mainly for them to check it before the next guest. They immediately apologized and gave us a 25% discount. That was very nice and not the reason I told them about it. There was obviously something wrong with the heat and I didn't want the next guest to experience what we did. They handled it professionally and quickly.

Very nice helpful reception area. Was great at check-in rooms nice and clean.

It was easy to find and the guy booking us in was great, came to our room to check the air conditioner was ok (the compressor makes a loud noise) and worked out how to get the coffee machine working) and said he had more coffee etc at the desk. We asked about dinner (see below) and breakfast. Re breakfast we followed his suggestion and ate El Dorado, which was good, again plenty of places to eat at. The room was smallish but had everything there.

Our room was on the ground floor and we could hear the people who were staying above us!! We could not hear those next to us, which was good. The helpful guy who booked us in said yes, the hotel does dinner but it was too noisy .There are plenty of places to eat though. The air compressor in the air conditioner was very noisy (we switched it off at night at the suggestion of the good guy who booked us in) and didn't start it the next day.. If it was going to be very hot or cold I would check this before booking.

Das Zimmer hatte eine komplette Ausstattung.

Wir hatten, für einen viel zu hohen Preis, ein dunkles Zimmer mit Fenster zum innenliegenden Treppenhaus mit Blick auf Recyclingcontainer und Waschmaschinen die bis in die Nacht hinein ununterbrochen liefen. Erst nach zweimaliger Beschwerde wurden die Maschinen abgestellt. Weitere Bewertungen überflüssig.

Excellent séjour au Downtown, a Coast Hotel. Idéalement placé dans le centre de Dawson City, il est facile de se garer à proximité. Le personnel est accueillant et serviable. L'établissement a gardé le cachet de l'époque à l'extérieur et dans les parties communes, tout en étant bien entretenu. Les chambres sont dans un style plus moderne et moins dans le thème mais très confortables et propres. Pour les prix de la ville et tenant compte du côté historique du lieu le rapport qualité-prix est très bien

Loved the interior of the lobby and stairway and was pleasantly surprised about the modern interior style of our room. The location is perfect and the food in the saloon was great.i
