Very comfortable for three people nice to have a balcony.
Nothing
Everything the Esplanade does is great especially when you are always taken care of. Exceeds all expectations and supports you with whatever you need.
Nothing but kind words. Hospitality and kindness with professional and meaningful service.
Great location Room was exactly what we needed with great sheets and towels
Love this place! Charming faded glory in a great location with wonderful staff ☺️
It has character and boutique.
It deserves to be busier such a great location with lots of potential
Lovely authentic old world feel. Great location for local restaurants cafes and shops. Easy 2 minute walk to the ferry over to the city. Beautiful views of the city night and day. Ideal peaceful location with easy city access.
The hotel is in a great location and we really liked the historic features. It’s very close to the ferry building and handy for walking the main street to look for places to eat. Oh and it’s cheap! Very cheap but such a waste of potential.
Unfortunately, while the initial impression was good, once you open the door into your room it goes downhill. Our room was really tired with a weird collection and placement of room features like fridge, heater, chair, etc. The bed was super soft with terrific roll together - it’s good there were two of us in it otherwise a solo traveller might have needed to crampon their way out of the middle of the mattress. The en suite was almost the same size as the bedroom with a peeling bath (that had pubic hairs in the bottom of it) and marks all over the tiled floor, possibly paint from where someone had tried to paint the bath.
The room and staff always take care of your needs.
They are an amazing team who look after and want the best for you and your stay
The staff were friendly. Team was always happy to help with anything you needed.
Location
Central Heat not working
Location is great! Nearby restaurant selection fantastic and views and ferry right there, great spot!
Too bad old hot water heat no longer functioning.
Great location
Restaurant was not open
Very nice building and natural air
Location great, right by the ferry building, and close to my work location for the day. Very old and historic, and quite lovely to stay in for a night. Cost me $121, which I think was great value for money.
I would have liked better facilities in the room, and also a restaurant at the hotel (but that wasn't major).
The shower was amazing, hot, good pressure
Bed was saggy
We love the old world ambience of this hotel. The location near the wharf and restaurants is excellent.
The room we had this time was disappointing. We've had several better rooms on numerous previous stays. A bit cramped, and a bit tired.
We stayed in the Deluxe Suite, which is a generously proportioned flat. The bathrooms are particularly luxurious. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The kitchen could have been a bit more generous (some salt, perhaps, or enough cutlery) but nevertheless we managed fine.
Great location
Excellent location. Fantastic building historic architecture

Bed not great.
This hotel occupies a premium waterfront location, overlooking the harbour and right in the midst of the shops and ferry terminal. It is a beautiful historic building but has seen better days unfortunately. Room rates are very reasonable.
This building could be so much more than it is . It looks very tired and shabby . Room 106 was a big disappointment. Bath was an entire blue and white mosaic of chipped paint, shower head sprayed water in every which way and ran hot and cold at will, basin plug was many sizes too big, Venetian blinds thick with dust, fake plastic flowers, some jacked up kitchen arrangement in bedroom with instructions not to use . No restaurant and blocked off areas. Outside needs a good water blast. Guests need to be aware of what they are getting as photos perhaps a tad misleading
Location, room size pretty good. Receptionist available most of the day.
Pillows not comfortable. Not enough blankets in room. Blinds didnt work in bathroom.
Shops and cafes were nice and close.
No issues at all, really enjoyed the stay, comfortable, quiet...thanks !
Breakfast would be appreciated !
Location
The room, not clean, old and beat up.
Very close to attractions
Location. The tall ceilings and the homely room.
The reservation was booked in advance for my birthday, on the day I forgot that it was my birthday, x Thank you for having me!
Location was AMAZING! Very classy joint built in 1901. It was comfortable, but not modern. Also, what a bargain. We had the top middle room, which had great views. See photos.
There was a bit of a stale smell in the bathroom, which we could smell in there occasionally.
Fantastic location and beautiful room with a balcony. I was dreading the proximity of the pub, being a Saturday night, but it was fine. The building is showing its age, but that can’t be helped, well not without a massively expensive renovation which would result in much higher rates.
Like a grand old elegant lady. Fantastic location. Lots of charm.
What breakfast
Charming old Hotel in a gorgeous location 👌 😍
For the price there's nothing I didn't like. 😃
Perfect location
Location was great
No onsite breakfast Only bar snacks for dinner Didn’t get the room we thought we’d booked. Confusing booking system through Booking.Com. Will book direct next time for a Sunroom
Location, staff, classic Victorian
Great location in the heart of Devonport. Close proximity to many restaurants and shops. The hotel is lovely. The rooms could use some work however our day was very comfortable and we can’t beat the price which was really reasonable. Overall a lovely stay.
Could use some general maintenance work to bring it back to its glory.
Old school charm and a great location. Great water pressure in shower.
A shame that restaurant is no longer in use but there are plenty nearby.
Good views. Close proximity to shops. Loaded with history.
Getting out onto the deck was a bit awkward. Especially for someone on crutches.
Location and view, easy to get around Devonport by foot.
The old style building
Location.
Bed was a bit uncomfortable.
I absolutely loved this hotel. It was a last-minute booking but it couldn’t have been better - so classic but well maintained.
There’s nothing I didn’t like. We had a lovely room with plenty of space and a large bath and shower.
Great location beautiful building. I’ve stayed there 3 times in last few years. Staff is lovely. The rooms are large with tall ceilings and it has a very Parisian feel to it. As for facilites there’s no gym or pool or anything like that but the park is across the street for exercise. The hotel has a great view and I spent a lot of time on the balcony reading, relaxing, and people watching. I highly recommend
I loved staying at The Esplanade Hotel. The best part was that they upgraded us to the Queen’s Suite free of charge. It was a wonderful room, beautifully preserved with 1900s vintage designs, and it had a huge balcony overlooking the harbour. The spacious living room, comfortable bed, and the massive bathroom made the stay even more special. The location is fantastic as well, close to everything you need. A truly relaxing stay and worth every penny.
Locations
Friendly check in, great price already, got an upgrade, awesome place to stay, right on the waterfront
Nothing
The location is good, I did nit eat in the hotel
The property is in a tragic state, the walls are moldy and the wallpaper is separated all over. The curtains are dirty, and overall the whole hotel needs a mayor renovation, it's really not in a good state.
Devonport is my hometown- always love staying there
Good location
The room was not that great
Great views. Very handy to shops and ferry.
Great room with views of harbour

Comfortable, convenient location for Devonport and ferries to city
Sense of “faded glory”
Gorgeous old building, beautifully renovated. Lovely balcony, great shower and very comfortable bed. Within working distance of some great restaurants.
The Esplanade is a quaint old hotel. It is right opposite the wharf and in the centre of the village. Great walks and shopping. Cafes and restaurants so close. Great friendly service. Comfortable room. Fantastic shower pressure. Nice view from the room
Couldn’t unlock the door to get onto the balcony .
The location is excellent. The bed was so comfortable and everything was clean.
N/A
The location and our room with the attached sitting room was great.
The guy at the front desk was a bit impersonal and not that friendly, talked at us not to us.
Loved the upgrade to the apartment. Nice authentic rooms
Outside was a little shabby but still had great character
Great location and looks great!
The smell was off putting. Old but beautiful potential.
Lovely place
The building interior was awesome and beautiful old is gold
The person who greeted and assisted us as we arrived and left, and everything in between.
Nothing
Quirky hotel set on the waterfront in Devonport. Opposite the ferry terminal - near all the cafes and restaurants with a supermarket within walking distance. There is free parking near the hotel - space to unload bags in front.
The location was great in Devonport.
There was no car parking for the guests and you had to find parking nearby.
Great location, large room.
Room was fine but would have preferred a better view which we usually have.
The location is superb, right in central Devonport very close to the foreshore and the ferry. The hotel is old and tired but still very comfortable.
