Pleasant from the front
Didn’t appreciate I would be in the annexe which was really dated. No hot water for two days despite mentioning this at breakfast of day 1 - it was a 2 day stay. I arrived back late the evening after reporting the water and still not sorted. I was told at breakfast on day 2 that they thought it had been sorted. The staff member said she would inform the manager and I have heard nothing. I stay in Norwich for work regularly and would not stay here again.
The location, the staff, very comfortable, pretty gardens.
Not a huge concern but areas are being refurbished so not complete yet.
Breakfast was adequate
Coffee machine in Breakfast room
Location, character and facilities
Some parts need refurbishing
The breakfast was excellent with very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they went out of their way to provide a good start to the day.
REALLY NICE IMPRESSION WHEN YOU DRIVE UP TO PROPERTY - WELL-KEPT AND INVITING. ALL STAFF WERE EXCEPTIONAL - THE INITIAL FRONT DESK LADY WAS SO WARM AND FRIENDLY, PERSONALLY SHOWING US TO OUR ROOM, EXPLAINING EVERYTHING WE NEEDED TO KNOW. BEST FIRST IMPRESSION EVER!! ROOM WAS WELL APPONTED, COMFY AND CLEAN...COULD DO WITH A WEE UPDATE BUT EVERYTHING IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER. BREAKFAST ROOM IS BEAUTIFUL AND AIRY, AND OUR WAITRESS WAS AGAIN, FANTASTIC - VERY FRIENDLY AND ACCOMODATING. BREAKFAST ITSELF WAS REALLY TASTY AND WELL PRESENTED. OVERALL, A REALLY GREAT STAY WITH FABULOUS STAFF - WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN, THANK YOU!!
PROPERTY COULD DO WITH A BIT OF AN UPDATE,, BUT EVERYTHING STILL IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER.
Location was great, staff were friendly, a good night sleep
Room was clean enough but slightly dated and requires tlc, breakfast included but sat for 30 mins with no one taking order and then left as it was nearly checkout time.
The property looked amazing, great location. Staff were so friendly and helpful.
The waiting staff at breakfast were very nice and helpful. They worked very hard. The full English breakfast wasn't very hot. The bacon and mushrooms were hard as if they had been reheated.
Good facilities and location.
Location breakfast
The room first given was awful Had to ask to be moved
Very nice, well cooked breakfast, good menu choices, the fruit salad for example was always presented well and a variety of expensive fruits offered. The room was fine and attractive if a bit dated. The staff were very friendly.
The coffee was awful, the machine not well-maintained and looked grubby. The dining room was very dated and there was not a good option for evening meal. It's important potential guests appreciate it's not a restaurant, more an events venue so it doesn't have a welcoming restaurant atmosphere during the evening and it has a very small bar, only staffed when you can find someone.
lovely stay, staff helped with everything we needed, there was a wedding on that ngt, due to my boy having adhd i was worried he was gonnner be the noiser one lol x
Swimming pool for my son, kindness off owners
Plenty of parking
Bar closes at 9pm To far from any pub to walk, And somewhat poorly cleaned shower had mould and dusty surfaces
Incredibly large bedroom with masses of hanging, drawers. A perfect bedroom for people with lots of clothes or staying for a wedding. Evening food in the restaurant was good.
Our bathroom could have been cleaner. Our bedroom wasn’t cleaned after the first day. I would expect a decent hotel to make the beds and clean. Generally the hotel could have been cleaner. The restaurant was very clean but breakfast was a little bit limited.
The staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was excellent.
Our room in the annexe was disappointing - we hadn't been told we would be in an annex when we booked. There wasn't any room in the room apart from the bed. We only had one large towel. There was a complete absence of any little touches in the room, which was quite bare.
The location was good, the facilities were nice and clean. Breakfast was great and staff were friendly.
Our room smelled mouldy, bathroom not very clean and definitely needs an update.
Location
The 2 spare beds in the room made it cluttered. We did not ask for a family room.
Location , staff
First room we had , no bar open from about 8pm ,
Lovely hotel! Really homely outside pool is just fab!
Felt the bar food was slightly over priced!
The location was convenient although right on the road which was busier than we'd realised. The room was adequate and clean although not luxurious. The shower was great and so was the breakfast. Staff were very helpful.
Busy road. Loose headboard was uncomfortable. Small towels.
Lots of parking, room size quite good, friendly staff, clean room, warm (although it was August), the breakfast was actually quite good (coffee poor though)
The hotel looks good from the outside but is really underwhelming as soon as you step inside. It is dated, tired and old. The pictures are way better than reality. We were hoping for a well kept, well decorated, organised and comfortable stay in an independent hotel and were willing to spend a little more than the generic chains. The rooms need a refurbishment, the bathroom in particular was tired, the breakfast room was tired with old equipment and furniture. One of the selling points for the hotel was an on site EV charger - it broke instantly and I had to drive to the nearest town and sit for 30 mins (not terrible I know but it didn't help). The plug in our sink jammed, I went to reception and they confirmed this is a very common issue, they didn't fix it though so we cleaned out teeth in the shower.
Staff very helpful, grounds lovely, rooms clean and modern bathroom.
Rooms in cottage need updating quite dated and room was a little dark.
Lovely building and gardens. Very helpful staff
Very noisy, at night, talking from room next door. In the morning, showers can be heard . Appreciate this is an old building, but insulation would be good.
The hotel and the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The fact that an outdoor pool was available and included within the price we paid for the night, was a massive bonus, especially with 3 children who were excited to use it. Breakfast selections were very good, from cereals all the way to cook breakfasts which are made fresh to order. Rooms were clean and comfortable. A little gem of a hotel away from the noise, a nice place to relax. We would definitely look to comeback and stay.
Wasnt much to dislike to be honest.
Very comfortable bed.
Shower was awkward to use and appeared grubby in the corner. Towels were small but clean
Nothing brilliant.
Location.
Great breakfast and bright and friently staff
Signage from the highway
Breakfast wasn't great, took a long time and was burnt, over cooked. Bedroom had marks and scuffs, bed was broken and missing bits like metal headboard ornament. Decoration in bathroom was poor.
The room was clean with a good sized shower and the added bonus of a fan! Good selection for breakfast which suited all the family. The pool was a god send, I couldn't get my daughter out of it. The staff were really friendly and helpful.
It was a little tired in places and could do with a general spruce. My daughter and I shared a room but we were only provided with one set of towels, although it was no problem to sort this. The bed wasn't the comfiest (although this is probably down to individual taste), and kept banging against the wall whenever you turned over.
Staff were helpful
Dirty towel in room...and only 1 clean towel for 2 people, room needs updating, overall looked grubby, waited nearly an hour for 2 poached eggs
The hotel is in a good location for exploring the area. Bedroom was clean and comfortable. Easy distance to Wroxham and only 20 mins away from Norwich Centre, though we did go in the evening so no traffic. Having the swimming pool was excellent and the pool area was clean and welcoming. In general a good place to stay. The amazing waitress at breakfast on Saturday morning. On her own serving around 8 tables. Absolutely brilliant. When we came back to hotel later she was cleaning windows and then the rooms. She was like a whirlwind.
The welcome on arrival was a little short. Hello here’s your room key, breakfast 8 to 10, nothing else.
Well appointed hotel for exploring Norfolk. Room was lovely with a huge bed and a mini fridge. Nice gardens and a pool.
Other guests…huge party consisting of mainly children were allowed to run riot!
The staff were very welcome helpful and courteous. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was really enjoyable and I loved the swimming pool especoally with the ho t weather we are having. The room coulf maybe do woth a lick of paint. Otherwise a very pleasant stay. I would be happy to stay agai .
There could have been a better choice of biscuits and teas. The tv was qiite old and not very good. Its a shame it wasnt bogger because now Im older even with my glasses I couldnt read ot so well. The machinefor the hot water at breakfast might need replacing.
The staff are really nice and the pool tops the stay off perfect
Staff are a but thin on the ground in the day time
Breakfast was good with decent range of hot/cooked foods & small buffet. Room & bathroom were of good size with complimentary water & tea making facitilites. Grounds of hotel were ample & well kept with lots of seating area & swimming pool was open.
Good location and added bonus of a pool!!
A little dated and tired around the edges
Excellent breakfast using local ingredients, friendly efficient staff, plenty of parking and an excellent location.
The breakfast was tasty and nice gardens/ pool. Jill who works there was really lovely and full of little kindnesses that really made our stay
The rooms decor was fairly basic but all worked well
Absolutely gorgeous hotel - the fairy lights at night were magical and the grounds were beautiful. Wished we would be staying longer to use the pool and gardens! The room was so cute and we loved staying. The breakfast was delicious - the best we'd had in AGES, and the dining room was so lovely. You could see how much care has been put into the hotel. Location was also great for getting in/out of Norwich. Would love to stay again - sadly unlikely to be back in East Anglia, but we are tempted to make the trip just to come back and stay!
Great location. the road can be busy but the rooms are set back, so it wasnt at all noisy. Comfortable bed and they provided a tower fan to help cool the room. Staff were attentive. Great breakfast included in the price. Bonus was the pool - it was very clean and well maintained. You could almost believe you were abroad.
The decor could do with updating. Some areas were very tired, but overall had a lovely stay.
Staff were very helpful
The garden and pool area
Room was in need of modernising , no smart tv , and tv reception was v poor , also room was too hot and smelt of damp
Traditional property quietly placed off the main road, unaffected by the noise of traffic. Classically decorated, very clean and comfortable all round. The addition of a small swimming pool and beautiful garden terrace was lovely, especially when relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine. Staff unbelievably friendly and helpful. Ted especially, a true asset to the team, doing anything he can to ensure everybody received the best possible experience. As well as, Hayley on the breakfast shift in the morning. Her energy and joyfulness was truly the best way to be greeted in the morning.
The food and beverage side of the hotel was a small let down. The evening menu had been reduced (understandably due to the demand) and the options basic. Other guests seemed to be enjoying their evening meals and so I cannot comment further. I decided to venture out, and with the help from Ted I found a lovely eatery just down the road, who the hotel contacted directed and booked for me offering a gracious 20% discount for being a guest. Breakfast I have to say could have been better. Again, basic offerings but exactly what guests require so can’t exactly fault it. The let down was that despite only offering a couple of cooked breakfast options, the poached egg was extremely overdone and the hash brown soggy. I’d hope to think this was just an off day for the chef and I’d be willing to give it another go. Ultimately it wasn’t the end of the world. I met the chef shortly after and it became evident she was also manning reception and looking after god knows what else. A classic example of a small business saving on staff costs, which to no fault of their own is a real shame. Thank you UK Government for making hospitality so difficult to run nowadays!
Everything it’s amazing value for money,we dined slept and used the pool love to come back fabulous room 23
Television too small
Disappointing. One tiny sausage, small Portions, just average
Busy road, bar wasn’t open, no staff around after 8 pm ( we had to go out to find food), barman rolled his eyes when we asked for ice on the drink, no power sockets either side of the bed for charging etc. We had to ask to move rooms as the noise through the doorway into the next room allowed us to hear the neighbours conversations! Also no one to say goodbye to us.
Everything,,
Nothing,,
The staff were very welcoming, and the location was ideal especially having the use of the outside swimming pool (ideal after a long journey). The breakfast was lovely ,varied choice of every possible option and the waiting time for the cooked option was minimal.excellent .
On arrival we were informed of a 60 children "Proms" event being held at the hotel which was lovely to watch the varied choice of transport used ,but it did mean that any evening meal would have had to been room service. This was not a problem as we chose to eat elswhere however it would have been helpful to have been told of this event when booking as it would have provided us with a choice. This is a lovely hotel and i will definately stay there again... and soon, Thank you very much for a lovely stay
very nice staff, and nice pool and breakfast
it was a lovely room but the headboard was peeling and worn with bits of the material coming off
Fresh fruit and natural yogurt at breakfast
Mistakenly thought I’d be staying in a characterful old rectory . Pity the pool is not available before 9am as it does not really allow for a morning swim before breakfast and checkout
The garden
Very outdated, rubbish shower, only left one towel between 2 people and there was no air conditioning. The fire alarm went off at 2.30am, there were no staff on site to deal with the problem. All guests were outside the premises until 3.45 am.
Very nice stay at the old rectory hotel. Extremely hot weather lovely outside garden seating area with lovely pool. 😍 Super fresh home cooked breakfast, compliments to the breakfast team.
Nothing to dislike, very relaxed and chilled atmosphere particularly on the hottest day ever recorded in the UK!
Like the atmosphere, garden and breakfast
Rooma and dining room need an upgrade.
The quiet and the cleanliness
Nothing
Lovely hotel, very pleasant and helpful staff. Lovely english breakfast, and plenty to chose in cereals and drinks. Lovely grounds and nice heated outdoor pool.
Nothing..
We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Rectory Hotel. We had two king sized ensuite rooms, one with a walk in shower and one with a bath and shower over. The beds were comfortable and had nice wardrobes and drawers. The staff we met were absolutely wonderful; the two Gills and Jess were a delight. They really made us feel very welcome. Beautiful gardens with scented flowers around the entrance to the reception. The pool was clean with plenty of seating on the poolside but the water was a little on the cool side even though it is meant to be heated but it is early in the year. The car park is spacious and right near the reception area.
The entrance to the hotel is off a very fast moving road. The drive could benefit from being wider to make it safer to turn onto the car park.
The gardens were lovely. The hotel was quiet and tranquil.
Nothing really
Outside area and pool
No dining room offering a proper meal in the evening
Near to both Norwich and the coast. Clean. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. Swimming pool a nice ‘extra’
Tv is incredibly small in the room. I couldn’t even see the picture with my glasses on. Location a little disappointing as not actually in a village, not a place where you could have an evening stroll.
Friendly staff. Very helpful and a lovely comfortable stay
The heated swimming pool was a win with my family
The main issue we had was the hot water pipes, which were incredibly loud whenever anyone used them and regularly woke both me and my husband during the night. Unfortunately, we also had very noisy neighbours, and with the thin walls, we could hear everything. They didn't settle down until around 2am, which wasn't ideal when our child is awake at 6am! The TV in our room wasn't working and the WiFi was quite patchy, although neither was a major issue for us as we were only staying for one night. The room itself was perfectly adequate for a short stay. One small improvement would be to provide larger towels. The towel provided wasn't really big enough for my five-year-old, so a larger option would have been appreciated
- easy to get to - well located for exploring the Norfolk broads - big car park - good sized room and bathroom - garden/pool area looked nice (was too cold & windy during our stay unfortunately) - breakfast service staff were very friendly
- room needs a deep clean and some tlc: especially the bathroom: seals are mouldy, the shower caddy is rusty and coming off the walls, super mouldy non slip mat, anywhere that isn't easy to clean e.g. kettle, inside of bathroom bin lid, cracks, where the wall meets the floor joints etc. looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a looong while - grimy and hairs/pubes. It was pretty gross. I mentioned all this to the receptionist on check out and she just said "thanks", no apology. Looking at the previous reviews just now, someone's complained about this before and nothing's been done, so I don't have high hopes of it getting rectified 🙈 - the room doesn't have blackout curtains, so gets quite light very early morning in summer (if you have small children, you'll probably need 3x tommee tippee blackout travel blinds if you stay in room 21 - 2x for the huge double window and one for the window by the dressing table) - scrambled eggs were inedible (so so dry and overdone). The rest of the breakfast was okay. - road noise is loud all night. It might be better in some of the rooms further back.
Loverly surrounded garden, easy parking facilities. Good selection of food for breakfast. Pleasant staff members especially Gill the chief who was informative.
Nothing to dislike.
Breakfast was good. Staff friendly. Lovely gardens. Clean room.
Only few meals to choose from on their menu. Hotel bar closed at 9 pm.
Very friendly and great value. Wish we had known there was a heated outdoor pool.
Could not walk from there as no pavements on road.
Very friendly, clean and love the pool
Coffee machine!
Staff were very helpful and understanding with our little one, especially in giving us time to get her ready the next day for wedding. Grounds very pretty and well kept as was the room.
Not a great choice of food especially with little one as thought it was bar food but no chips on menu we saw.
Swimming pool is definitely the STAR ! Outdoors furniture seems new and was comfortable! Lovely flower baskets! Had a basic double room , was spacious enough! Poster double bed was comfortable, thank you! Breakfast was acceptable but good value for the price we paid! Staff was observant and multitasking it seemed.... Altogether, very good value for money! Location was good and had lots of own parking spaces!
Dirt that was easy to spot: In the room: - bin was filthy. - clothes tag from previous guest on the floor next to the bin -large quantity of dust and left overs garbage from previous guests behind bedside tables -kettle with H2O in it and debris and plus plus scales In the bathroom: - shower head and cord scaled - shower knob allowed hot and very hot water Windows glass could have been cleaner.
We stayed here for a couple of days. The rooms are clean and the bed was very comfortable. The pool was small but ok as not many people in it at the same time. The staff were all lovely and breakfast was good. We would stay again.
I cant think of anything we didnt like. We really enjoyed our stay.
Nice grounds, good breakfast, nice to have a pool.good base for sightseeing.
Room was dated, cobwebs all Round the coving and ceiling.beds headboard very old and rattled, not fixed .When mentioned about room was told if booked direct with hotel would of had room in main building and not the ones in the old part.
Location was good, due to the venue we had to attend that day.
Disappointed that on arrival, reception were not aware of the early book in. Weren't aware two people staying, wh8ch is a shame as I called in to ask re arriving earlier due to attending a funeral that pm. The room was cold, unable to turn radiator on plus very noisy room even after the party at the venue had finished.
A gem of a place. Well appointed spacious rooms. Very clean throughout the property. Well maintained and pleasant grounds. Good parking. Excellent breakfast. Easy access to Norwich and Airport. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Can’t think of anything that I didn’t like, it ticked all the boxes of what I expect in a hotel.
Very large and comfortable bed. Happy and friendly breakfast staff.
Shower was powerful but water flowed almost in one stream
Breakfast was good staff at breakfast good
No evening meal not even a soup
Lovely food & friendly staff. Comfy bed - easy parking.
Thought the rooms could do with a little refresh decor wise but they were very comfortable and clean.
Location
Noisy wedding party which we were not warned about. Very limited menu for evening meals.
I needed a vat invoice but there was nobody on reception
the price, the room, the location was perfect for where our function was.. all in all a nice stay
our table for breakfast was right next to the entrance of the restaurant, there were people in and out while we were eating which kind of took the edge off breakfast
The reception check in was easy, the room was spacious and clean with tea and coffee facilities and water in the mini fridge. The breakfast was Included in the cost of our stay and it was fabulous. It's grounds are very pretty and well kept - we had a two night stay and we would definitely return if we needed to stay in the area again.
Super helpful staff. Made my daughters three weeks day whilst she attended a course nearby feel safe, comfortable and welcoming.
Staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was excellent and catered for gluten-free and dairy-free diets.
Room was really big and spotless. Breakfast was delicious!
Nothing
A very tranquil location surrounded by beautiful nature. The breakfast was good with plenty of variety to choose from, and the staff were friendly and very helpful.
At breakfast, only single-serve portions of soy or oat milk were available, which weren’t really sufficient for making a latte. It would be great to offer a bottle or larger supply of oat or other non-dairy milk for guests who don’t drink cow’s milk.
Easy to find, lovely rooms, patio area and dining area. The in house food menu is small but had things we were happy to try and were indeed enjoyed by us both. The bar was enough but closes at 9 but we were wanting an early start the next day to not an issue. The staff were all super nice and so obliging
My wife thought the bed was hard and woke a few times but I myself slept well
