NO LIFT
We liked the view and the bar
The room was large but in desperate need of a lot of tlc inside and on the balcony
Lovely breakfast cooked to order. Perfect location. The room was enormous.
The family room for 4's bathroom was fine but the door was difficult to open and close sometimes and the toilet didn't always flush properly, presumably due to the water pressure.
Lovely place, friendly hosts. Very comfy bed
Could do with a blind on bathroom door.im not used to walking up steep hill from beach. Would stay again
Great sea views , staff very friendly & helpful ideal for the motorbike racing at Oliver's mount 😁👍
I love it as it was very spacious and we had our own toilet the beds were comfortable my children loved it had a lot of cupboards and wardrobes to put your clothes but overall it was nice
There wasn’t nothing I didn’t like about the property it was all great
The location
This hotel is extremely in need of renovation, very tired. Room was very noisy, we could hear the quiz downstairs as if it was in our room. Breakfast was included and we went down at 09:10 to be told that it finished at 09:00! We weren't told on checking in this information so we weren't happy as we chose this hotel for this reason.
Local to town centre 5 mins from beach
The lift being out of action
The Highlander was clean. The rooms were very big and spacious with a sea view. The staff was very friendly and approachable and the breakfast was lovely. I haven’t got one complaint about my stay.
Breakfast was lovely
Badly needs decorating and carpets cleaned
Friendly staff nice big room good breakfast also had a good meal in the afternoon close to scarborough spa which is why we was there
Nothing
Friendly staff
Television not working Toilet chain not flush Window sills dirty Very tiered looking No lift and we were on 3 floors
Everything but stairs.
Too many stairs to room
The staff were brilliant . The breakfast was lovely.
The stairwell had stale smell and could do with decorating and new carpet . The sink in the bathroom was small and hard to use because of its location under a shelf .
The staff were lovely. The room fit the 5 of us as booked. Staff were very kind and accommodating and made changes to the breakfast on request.
The building is very old and seems like it’s been neglected. The paint was peeling in most areas. Windows were off set so couldn’t be closed fully. As was one of the doors. Bathroom was very dirty, mould marks all around the bath tub and again paint peeling. General smell of waste in there from the moment we arrived. Carpets were very dirty also.
Beds were very comfortable, breakfast was amazing & staff were fabulous.
The shower was very weak. The plumbing was old so needed vacuum suction to dispel water & waste resulting in a loud noise each time we flushed or rsn water (sometimes it made a noise during the night) It was quite dated and in desperate need of refurbishment.
Fine for pupose
Location
Only good thing was breakfast and pleasant enough staff.
The room was untidy, floor was so dirty my kids socks looked like they had being playing in mud, the bathroom stank, and shower leaked.
Breakfast was lovely. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Great location within easy reach of the town centre. Lovely big room for 3 of us & well equipped. One of the best tea/coffee trays I’ve ever seen which was very much appreciated! Staff were lovely, welcoming, polite & helpful. Fabulous cooked breakfast!
The hotel itself is dated but we had everything we needed for a lovely comfortable stay. No criticisms at all.
Brilliant breakfast nice location lovely sea views and friendly staff
Needs an update but everything was clean.
The family room was really spacious,, on the top floor but well worth the view.
N/a
It was dirty and the carpets were stained the bannister was full of grime outside was unkept did not wait for breakfast left as soon as we woke up such a shame as its a beautiful hotel just left to go to pieces
Everything when we arrived home late at night there was 3men sat smoking in the steps it scared us
Good location
No lift but this wasn’t an issue for us as we knew before booking
The view from our suite was out of this world. The suite however is outdated and needs a little TLC but you get what you pay for. The breakfast was lovely. The two members of staff were lovely and helpful
Needs some TLC
Great location and very cheap to say a cooked breakfast was included. Breakfast was good and the chap serving it was nice.
Mattresses are old and well worn, carpets and upholstery felt like they needed a deep clean. The building looks like it's aging and is in need of some refurbishment.
Great location, sea view, clean comfortable room, friendly staff and lovely breakfast
Nothing not to like
Everything! The staff was soo helpful and kind.. very welcoming 💙 will deffo stay again.. and beautiful place to stay! Very clean and beautiful room.
We liked the View and beds were comfortable.
On arrival there's was no Reception area as such, what i saw was an Office that was untidy. We were told there was no Hot breakfast only cereal and hot drink for brreakfast. The decor in our room was very run down, stains on carpets, dirty mugs, a sofa we didn't want to sit on as looked dirty. There was a big window that was open and couldn't be closed. The so called Balcony had an old table and chair and hadnt been cleaned for ages although you couldn't really use it. The duvets were heavy for the time of year. The toilet was next to a big window with a curtain to cover it which was unhygienic. There was a door hanging off it's hinges. I dont think it was for for the purpose. Luckily we only stayed 1 night as if was longer we'd have relocated.
Location beach view good hotel not so great was cool outside inside was to hot felt like sleeping in my car
Room and no ventilation for nice cool air that was on other side of the glass lol
Fantastic friendly staff , clean comfy beds great breakfast ,relaxed atmosphere bar and stunning views will definitely return
Needs a little update with regards to deco and carpets
The bedroom was clean, compy beds View amazing Breakfast was good
Bathroom was poor Peeling paint, dirty and broken skirting boards. Pipes showing around toilet. Smelly Hardly any water from shower and no plug Noisy toilet and draining of water[maserator, not drains]
Very welcoming staff on arrival, room very spacious, clean and excellent sea view, comfortable beds, breakfast was really good and a good choice.
Not so much didn't like, the hotel rooms are very tired and dated, bathroom bath/shower area could do with a tile re grout and re seal, window could do with a privacy blind not curtain, felt a little exposed when in the bathroom, paint work in bedroom window areas could do with a tidy up, and for me get rid of the carpets, replace with with vinyl or laminate, easier to keep clean.
Good value for money . Good cooked breakfast . Bar prices very reasonable. Free on street parking with disc zone which was provided by hotel. Everyone very friendly. Hotel just a bit dated but you get what you pay for
Room needed updating
Pleasure to stay, kind staff, would recommend
The breakfast wasn't as good as the last time we stayed, they need to heat the food more the beans and tomatoes were always cold& served on cold plates. The staff were very friendly & if there was anything you wanted for your room they would get it for you. The location is great situated on the south cliff with lovely views.
The room's need updating, a door was off it's hinge and a wardrobe door as well, bedside cabinet draw front came off when I opened it, carpet was stained, bathroom definitely needs upgrading. It is a lovely size room. Was disappointed that the pub was not doing meals on a night cos that was one of the reasons we picked again to stay there. I think it is over priced.
The location was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming
The 2 staff worked hard doing everything.
The price was way overpriced. poor breakfast very fatty and oily, everything outdated the table we had in our room was literally on the floor
Location
Bathroom door was fully glazed and had no lock. Mattresses were as thick as a towel. Kettle had mould inside. Windowsills were rotten and hanging, no lift and the room we booked wasn't available so we were downgraded and no refund!
The view from the window
Bedding not fitted or pressed very cheap cloth badly needs updating a doog clean and decorating set English breakfast no other oppositions
Great location and very helpful staff.
AMAZING staff and a beautiful view. Blackout curtains and a seagull cull are the only things that could make it better! Would definitely stay again.
Breakfast
Lots of steps to reach promenade, room unkempt and unusable kettle
The hotel is in a great location, the staff were really friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was lovely. The view from the 3rd floor is great.
Nothing that would prevent me booking again, the building is old so has age related wear but it's a great base for the area.
Čista i opremljena soba. Dobra lokacija hotela, blizu su sve atrakcije. Prijatnost osoblja.
The rooms are very clean. Lovely staff and brilliant communication..lovely breakfast the views are amazing I will definitely be coming back
Well booked for my 50th bitrrhday Day with 2 friends. Web page stated sea view with balcony Hot carvery and food . Entertainment .vibrant pub / hotel!! Wondefull!! NO! Seaview yes No balcony yet anywhere? No hot food kitchen out of service Old out of date local.more.like it!! Up 2flights of stairs lift out of use! Bed room door hanging off hinges. Paper on walls.peeling off. Bathroom door clear.glass no privacy. Toilet flush system sound like a tank draining! Mould around the bath Shower didn't work Staff were polite And friendly . Needs alot of refurburb doin to gt to adequate standards . Bed very comfy Was a bonus Sorry wont be booking again! ONLY BONUS WAS THE VIEW
All.of it .
Location was nice staff were friendly
The room could do with alot of modernising for the price paid i expected better. Small bath towels and the bathroom wasn't cleaned to an expected hotel standard. The canvas wardrobe was literally crumbling in places and no longer fit for purpose. The breakfast was very sparse and unfortunately not very tasty. The staff did the best they could but investment is desperately needed
Location and room size
No cooked breakfast as stated when booking which we questioned and told due to problems with kitchen it was cereal and toast only we were also not told this when rang hotel day earlier, parking you have 3 hour allocation then have to move the car and locate elsewhere this is up to 6pm then from 9am next day we were only told when we rang hotel it was free parking
The room which we have had before is very big and has two big seaview windows which we love
Having to draw curtain when using bathroom as can see people passing on footpath, but we laugh about it as it is such value for money, it’s just a small thing, although could do with covering with that roll of stuff to make it frosted
Location.
A cooked breakfast wasn’t offered as the kitchen was closed due to having a new extractor installed. Despite my receipt clearly stating “Breakfast included. We instead were provided with a “complimentary” breakfast consisting of toast and cereal only. While the room was spacious and bright, everything about it was extremely tired and dated. Paint peeling in the bathroom, shower fitting that couldn’t be removed, faux leather chairs all peeling. Carpets very old & pulling up near doors, wallpaper that didn’t match, creaky floorboards. Sad to see but desperately needs some reinvestment.
The breakfast had mould in the bred and the egg had green in in it not a good breakfast
Location Nice bar area with Outside sitting area Breakfast
Bathroom needs major update ASAP Mirror light off, very dark Sitting on toilet bad curtain cover for the windows, veiw on to road very open Bedroom door had been jemmed open not repaired correctly and lock needs to be much stronger and fitted to make the occupants feel safe A sash window was not working the room was very very hot.
Staff was friendly
This hotel was like faulty towers, very dated and falling apart The breakfast was toast and cereal only due to the kitchen being closed
The view
Everything else
Location
Toilet didn't flush properly
Good location, friendly staff. Comfy beds.
The room was very hot. We had to pay for parking as there were no spaces outside the hotel. The hotel parking permit only lasted for 3 hours.
Large room
No lift was working, overall not very clean inside and outside ,windows didn't open properly, fire doors didn't close properly, in need of upgrade and repairs all way round ,didn't get a breakfast on second morning due to functional problems in the kitchen
The view was amazed the staff were very good
The bed was a bit hard. The room windows do not open so much so the room was very hot and the last day they did not do a fried breakfast because they had a fire in the kitchen so do not know how long it will be before they can cook again. Bit disappointed because I have to pay for breakfast out
It’s was good location & friendly & clean & great value & bar & beer garden was nice
All good
location ok Overlooking the beach
The whole place was grubby. Breakfast poor Beds uncomfortable
The Highlander is in a wonderful sea front position and although no parking at the hotel there is some on street parking available and just around the corner was a 24 hour carpark that cost around £9 for 24 hours. The beds were comfortable but no mattress protecter on my bed so I couldn’t bring myself to get under the covers - luckily it was hot so didn’t need to. Breakfast was good and tasty BUT cheap bread and no fresh juice just some glow in the dark orange coloured squash. Paid £210 for 3 adult ladies to stay in a room with a double and two single beds - which considering the lack of home comforts and cleanliness I feel was a lot.
Property is very very tired. There is hardly any staff and the bar staff was also the ‘reception’ staff. The carpets were well worn and dirty. The glass in the windows on our second floor room was very old and fragile and single glazed with no protection against it - a worry should young children be in the room. Breakfast was 8am - 9 am on a Sunday morning !! And the male staff said they preferred people to make hot food orders by 08.50 as they had to prepare for the Sunday Carvery. The bathroom was very old, tired and grubby, with urine staining around the bottom of the toilet and lots of ingrained dirt/ black mould around fittings - could not bring ourselves to get in the bath ! The toilet had a macerator attached … very noisy and very smelly drains. Sorry but although I understand how hard it is for hospitality these days but will not ever return and cannot recommend.
Emma and the staff were fantastic and made you feel welcome.
Big room and bathroom.
Scruffy place that needs updating.
The location was great, amazing view over the South bay, staff were friendly and the beds were comfy. Breakfast was ok but not very hot. Lovely building but in need of reburbishment
The room wasn’t clean and some of the bedding looked and smelt like they hadn’t been changed after the previous guests, we were on the top floor and some of the safety chains on the windows were broken , very dangerous if you children were staying. Towels small and the saniflow toilet was very noisy, curtains were very thin and let lots of light in. Had to lift the bedroom door to close it. Over priced at around £50 per person
The staff were very nice. The rooms however were awful, very dated and in dire need of renovating. Lack of air in the rooms so far too hot and uncomfortable to sleep. Worn out carpets and furniture, bathroom not the best, tiny vanity sink and dated bath and shower. ( would not use). Never waited for breakfast, left very early as conditions of interior really didn,t fancy it. No staff about so left key on hall table and posted parking card under door. Location ok. Definitely over priced at £299 for one night which had the rooms been up to a decent standard would not have minded but for the state they,re in then definitely not worth it.
Nice view.
A bit rough & ready.
Room was a great size for the 3 of us, staff very friendly and helpful and the food was really good
Room fine .All we needed for one night stay .Breakfast great .
Lovely, friendly staff, very welcoming
The hotel does need a refurb but for the price we paid we were very happy
Location was beautiful Room was big comfortable had all what needed staff were brilliant lovely will defo come again
Nothing
An absolutely delicious cooked breakfast with cereals, toast, preserves, juices and tea also.
Location, staff and breakfast
Was on the third floor
Location
Being on 2nd floor
Clean and spacious
The staff were lovely and accommodated for our motorcycles when parking the rooms are clean and tidy
The breakfast was adequate no crisps or nibbles behind the bar
Very comfortable, spacious room with sea views. The staff member we met was extremely polite and helpful (sorry I didn't get your name!) Good breakfast, good tea & coffee facilities and location, nice old building.
It was a bit run down in places with peeling paint, broken store cupboard etc. The parking permit only covered 3 hrs then you had to move your car, but overall great value for money.
