We were lucky to be able three nights at this beautiful Lodge! From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and at home! The lodge itself offers everything you need and more! The rooms are beautiful and so comfortable and the pool area is 10/10. Breakfast was served on the veranda - it was always plenty and so delicious. In particular we want to highlight how well we were treated by each and every one there. The went beyond and above for us and took care of everything! We will definitely be back and can highly recommend this beautiful place!

Location and staff
No help with luggage and dinner seating
amazing location, great breakfast, great dinner restaurant too, friendly helpful staff
Amazing views, very friendly and helpful staff Would love to return Fabulous breakfasts and lovely dinners
The rain on our last day! Otherwise everything was lovely
We loved the breath taking views from the chalets and the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and attentive. They had a lovely new years party arranged for the guests to enjoy with excellent food and an amazing choir.

Amazing place in the middle of the national reservation. Nice and warm welcome with welcome drink and friendly personal who explained us everything.
The only negative thing what we had on our stay was that we had no chance to stay longer than one night.
Location and food quality
Hog Hollow has lost its rustic charm. Plastic chairs outside cheapened the look and the accommodations now look like portacabins
Amazing room with beautiful views! Great food and excellent service from the attentive and caring staff!
Nothing
Tolles Essen, sehr nettes Personal, tolle Lage
Everything, a beautiful setting, fabulous accommodation and staff that can’t do enough for you!
Harde matrassen. Soms nare geurtjes aan het zwembad.
This was a lovely experience. Wish we would have stayed one more night
Staff were very good
Very rustic and main seating/public area in need of a refurbishment! For the price, comparing with others around the Crags (eg Crags Country Lodge) - no comparison. Cant believe it is in the Trailfinders Brochure! Rooms were dark but i think have been upgraded recently but maybe not our cup of tea! Some of the foliage should be cut back in the main area so that the views would be better! Course to be fair some will like it but not us. Also at breakfast to charge extra for a flat white (R35) when you paying £220-£240 per night seems mad! We have stayed at much better for half the price!
Nice location
Too expensive for what you get
Stayed here a number of years ago and had a great stay so good to see it is still a fabulous place to spend a few days. Rooms are very comfortable and mainly have terraces built out over the Hollow. The food is excellent as are the staff.
Nothing
The location is in the middle of the forest, its amazing! Great and friendly staff!
Location is amazing, units are secluded and private. Swimming pool area is lovely. Staff are really friendly and meet all our needs.
The staff are what makes this an incredible place to stay. And the views are stunning. It’s very peaceful.
Everything was great but a small play ground outside given there’s so much land would help families entertain their children more easily
According to the pictures you have of this place, a person can do SUP on the river, boat cruises etc etc and they do not offer any of those activities anymore. You really should update that We went with kids to go and do those activities and it was "old" activities they don't offer anymore. Quite disappointed
Everything was perfect
Room was nice and spacious, with large balcony area and bathroom. The food was excellent - both dinner and breakfast.
Pool area was small, with limited sun loungers - and a Shame there were no sun loungers on the room balcony as it was large enough.
The location, the staff, the facilities, the food, the comfort, the views! Everything !
Absolutely nothing.
Amazing breakfast and supper, and very friendly staff. And great car wash at the end of the stay. Nice and comfortable rooms. We enjoyed just doing nothing other than relaxing on the weekend.
Maybe a bit more variation/options in the lunch menu.
Beautiful setting, excellent staff who were so friendly and helpful.
Very unusual location in the forest and a very vivid reminder of South Africa. The rooms were spacious and accessible with all the amenities you would expect from a very special hotel.
The poor weather meant that the hotel was not the experience expected. This was not the fault of the hotel per se but it meant there was some disappointment.
Breakfast was great, well presented & variety. Wonderful views from boma deck. Room was lovely design with African art and textiles. Very family-friendly, they provided cot with teddies and milk and cookies at bedtime for our toddler. It has a bath (as well as shower) which was much appreciated for little ones. Staff were lovely, friendly and accommodating. Fun to have monkeys visiting our balcony. Easy access to Plettenberg Bay if you have a car.
Bathroom was a little tired in places, but still comfortable to use and clean
Excellent breakfast
The bathrooms really need a refurbishment. Not 4-star quality at all! We had just arrived at this property from another lodge in Knysna. We payed quite a bit more at this property than the one in Knysna and it was a real disappointment compared to the Knysna property - the rooms are average, the bathrooms need to be refurbished.. in my opinion not worth the amount we paid.
Amazing location
Food was very average. Shower had no pressure. Staff didn’t manage to create this special atmosphere / personal connection that makes a place excellent versus average
Beautiful property in a beautiful location. Lovely rooms with all you could need and more. They have a fantastic restaurant and wonderful staff.
Amazing view and very kind staff
Top tier hospitality, felt like a VIP. Had an amazing experience
Nothing
Staff were lovely. Boma setting was fantastic. Good pool. Breakfast setting and food great
Cabin was not warm .. you had the opportunity to light a fire. Would have liked to see big fluffy dressing gowns and slippers offered. Garden area was a bit overgrown. A little more trimming would have enhanced the view. Breakfast was good but did not find dinner menus very interesting. Too expensive for what is offered
A beautiful slice of paradise .. views to die for, people were just so lovely and attentive. Monkeys at morning breakfast made our day, but can see the trouble they were for the staff
Nothing .. everything was fantastic
Whole experience was great but found the staff truly exceptional.
Warm welcome and courtesy drink on arrival. Main deck and restaurant facilities are superb. Lovely views included. Evening meals and breakfast all excellent Nice touch they offer a complementary car wash in the morning.
Nothing
Secluded and private
We stayed at Hogs Hollow for two nights whilst driving the garden route and we loved our stay. Our room - no 17 (or rather suite) was stunning. Breathtaking views from our private veranda and a spacious room with living area and large bed, and not to mention a wood burner that was freshly laid each day kept those chilly nights away. But most of all the exceptional service was what made our stay. All the staff were very friendly and went above and beyond! Nothing was too much trouble, and when asking what we were up to for the day or for dinner flagged things like tide times to be aware of or whether somewhere was closed. We were also delighted by the daily car clean. The weather wasn’t kind enough for us to use the pool but the pool deck was great and we used the sauna. Breakfast was also delicious. A large continental selection with homemade goods accompanied by a hot dish of our choosing.
beautiful view, good breakfast
unfortunately we can’t enjoy our stay because of a load shedding . no light in a rooms, only in a restaurant. the rest was ok.
All very nice - just too few people staying. The first night the generator broke down and we had to take a taxi to Enrico for food.
Load shedding - generator did not extend to the bedrooms - only the main building.
magical place, wonderful staff
The breakfast, the surroundings and accommodation were excellent and the staff polite and helpful.
The only evening meal we had there on our first night was very disapponting and the reason we did not eat there again! It was the only bad meal we had during our 3 week stay in South Africa!
fantastic views over the jungle, amazing food, wonderful staff, great with kids (there is a play room)
Hog Hollow is located in the most serene setting with the most spectacular views of a forest. Due to this location one can only be totally relaxed. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional and share activity suggestions as well as restaurants to try out. Great facilities that accommodate families with little child as there is a play room which is great for rainy days. Great quality breakfast selection both continental and hot breakfast. Lastly Hog Hollow is a short drive from the main town on Plettenberg.
Due to the electricity crisis in South Africa (LoadShedding), the backup power system is not connected to the rooms and therefore one needs to make use of battery operated mobile light which is provided in the room. However, one is unable to use other electrical appliances and plug points in the rooms during outages.
service and facilities
the food didn’t match the service and faclilities
only complaint is that the wine list was uninspired - otherwise everything first class
Super selection for breakfast with a “Hog hollow twist” well presented with the option of sitting out on the deck with a great view of forest and distant mountains. All served but excellent staff.
Icing on the cake would be WiFi in the room.
Excellent position with outstanding forest views. Very friendly and attentive staff. Rooms were excellent.. Service levels extremely high. Breakfasts were superb and so were the dinners! Highly recommended. We very much enjoyed our stay!
It is a beautiful property and well thought through. The only problem is that the infrastructure seems to break down a lot and the staff don’t seem to handle it well. On our second day we had no electricity for the afternoon. When they tried to fix it we were left with no water. Then they managed to get cold water. Next they arranged for us to shower in another unit. They had to be reminded to bring us a key for that room. That evening when the turn down staff came they took the key. We did not notice until the morning when we needed to have a shower. We must have gone to the front desk 6 times to deal with the issue. We had a plane to catch the next morning so this just added to the stress. They offered us a bottle of wine as compensation but we were getting on a plane so it was no use to us. The food was generally good but for some reason the salads we ordered on the second night were not edible.
We had such a great experience here... the staff is amazing so welcoming and friendly we went with our 2 young children and they were so great with them.. would recommend this place to anyone with children. Also if you go you must do the champagne tour with mark he’s fantastic!
Beautiful setting with wonderful friendly, helpful staff.
Our second visit to Hog Hollow and it was every bit as enjoyable as the previous one. Very much enjoy the friendly staff approah and the style of the place.
We stayed at Hog Hollow for one night as wanted to experience another side of Plettenberg. It’s got a real jungle/forest vibe in the hills. We arrived really early but they let us check in straight away which I loved and also gave us lots of suggestions on things to do. Our room was cosy, nicely decorated, lovely log fire. If I was being really penickity Id say it had a slightly musty smell but I think this is just a by product of location and it went with the fire burning. They helped us do a walk through the forest (wear insect repellent if you do this!) and then picked us up after which was handy. Service was really good all round. The staff even washed our car for us which was greatly appreciated! Lovely pool to recline by looking out into the forest and then we did the in-house set menu in the evening which was lovely too. Great stay for a night or two.
The location is fabulous and the deck area above the pool with the fire pit is amazing. The food and hospitality are exemplary and the whole experience is very relaxing . the hotel is well located for exploring the wider area and there is plenty to see and do.
Large and nicely decorated room. Wonderful communal terrace with log fire in the evening. Good food. Close to plattenburg bay, and plenty of local activities. And the pineapple soap in the room was good enough that we went to the producer to buy more. But this is fully reflected in the price, and for a premium venue there were occasional glitches, like poor quality roibush tea, and cups that had not been pre-heated so it cooled quickly. And while the lack of wi fi in rooms was probably a selling point originally, with today’s connected world it is a pain. But overall, would recommend.
A hidden treasure, lovely setting with fantastic views across the forest from your room, breakfast terrace and swimming pool. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Great position for lots of different things to do and see. My 2nd visit and was as excellent as first.
Excelente hotel.
Great accommodation, helpful staff , great food and lots to do on site and nearby. One night not really enough
Great staff, very welcoming and friendly -nothing was too much trouble for them. This is 3rd time we stayed at HH and hope to be back again soon !
This place has the most amazing setting with georgeous views. Each lodge is set in between vegetation so feels very private, you are not overlooked by anyone. The room had no aircon, just ceiling fans. Also NO TV. The bathroom had a big bathtub with room for two, and a candle holder on the wall so you could have a nice romantic bath in the candlelight. The beds were very comfortable and large. The curtains did not block out the light well so be prepared to get up when the sun gets up! The major bonus was the decking outside, where you can sit outside in privacy and just enjoy the nature around you. The lodge is reached by a small path that winds its way through the forest. Service was good, we got help with parking, carrying bags etc. Amazingly, when we got in the car in the morning to drive off we noticed that they had *washed our car*. Dinner was a disappointment. It's just a fixed menu consisting of a few dishes. There are three choices for the mains and that's it (meat/fish/vegetarian) and if you don't like any of these then you have a problem - there is nothing else around for miles. The food was good, but there was not much protein - and felt completely overpriced for a small piece of meat. Think "nouvelle cuisine" done South Africa style and you will have it. Breakfast was very very good, with some exciting items I have not had before as well as blueberries, strawberries, home made omelettes, fantastic pastries etc.
Visited for 3 nights to celebrate my Wifes birthday in a very special place. We absolutely love this hotel ! Staff are the best we have ever met and really make a huge effort, and everthing about the hotel makes it a great place to stay. This is our 2nd time staying here, and we will definately be back. Highly recommended !!
Fantastic location. Amazing staff, a unique dining experience. Highly recommended for a 2-3 night min stop over.
