Neat and tidy, good location
The owner, she refused to allow us to use the braai/BBQ facilities on the last night of our stay and in fact poured a jug of water over the fire we had started, which was to be used to cool our own food. She refused to supply cutlery and crockery on the last night. She was eating our leftover food without express permission to do so. She took 2 bottles of our alcohol also without permission. She also felt the need to pass comment on us drinking, saying explicitly how irresponsible we are, regardless of the fact that we’re all adults. She was also intoxicated on the first and second night of our stay.
Host was fantastic
It was quiet and clean. Clean bedding. Friendly well behaved dogs. The manager lent us a plug for our cellphone charger.
The maintenance is not good. Problems with aircon among others. We chose this place because it advertised aircon which in retrospect it didn’t have, as it was malfunctioning. Lots of excuses from management. I don’t want to listen to stuff like that. For the rate you pay things must work.
Great location, owners are very friendly and kind, dogs are calm and super chilled, really appreciated super clean bedding and effort Joanne made to make us feel welcome

Location was central
Lot's of cockaroaches, not a very comfortable stay as marketed by host as "luxury" ahead of time. Would have not spent the money on this place and had other options I wish I had pursued, towels not clean, dogs are lovely, only redeeming factor and that's only cause we love dogs
We loved everything!! It was a really nice stay. Definitely going back again. Jo the hostess was such a breeze of fresh air!!
It was a great venue and was so peaceful. Our host Jo was friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home. The beds are very comfortable and unit was well kitted for our needs. We will definitely be back to visit again.
Very comfortable bed and the shower is lovely. Nice and close to town.. Joanne gave us some milk for coffea.. slept well..
no breakfast. good location
The host was VERY helpfull and over friendly after we had an serious accident in front of her property's gate, but she was VERY drunk and tried to calm us with wine and mampoer... We were booked into a TENT (IN MID WINTER) that we didn't ask for and my mother in law (86) and her crippled brother(82) were expected to sleep on stretchers. In the end she quickly fitted them into a VERY filthy room with a very THIN mattress and summer duvet. It was VERY COLD and we had to go to an OUTSIDE toilet and kitchen with NO HOT WATER to shower with in a VERY filthy bathroom. The hand towel was frayed and not clean. I realey don't understand how you can book your guests into a place like this...It was the most AWFULL place to stay ever
Not much at all
We were disappointed with our experience at this guesthouse. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess, who was clearly intoxicated and using inappropriate foul language. This was not only unprofessional but also made us feel extremely uncomfortable. First impressions matter, and this one unfortunately set a negative tone for our stay.
Safety,Family loving environment, Environment and accommodation is clean.
Na
No breakfast.
Kitchen, no salt, pepper, coffee or tea. Crockery chipped. The bathroom, shower floor, painted, was peeling. The water outlet poor or blocked. Basin taps loose. I understand rustic, but for this price and location I think they can do much better. A huge army of mosquitoes .The ac worked perfect. Our son came from the United States for a visit , we wanted to be together and I made a mistake to book a family room. The host offered another location on the premises, but we were not interested.
Didnt end up staying but it could have been very pleasant in the tented accommodation. Unfortunately the onsite dogs are very much in your personal space.
This place is suited to guests that want to interact with other guests and all the dogs on site.
Our host went the extra mile to accommodate our needs. Our shower was huge. A lovely communal pool to enjoy too. Thank you Jo.
Jo the host was most welcoming as were the dogs. It fitted our needs for the three days we were there. The air conditioning.
It was the hottest days of the year in Tulbagh and the air conditioning, when it worked, was wonderful. For some reason it would shut down and no amount of fiddling with the remote would revive it. It would then spring in to life in the middle of the night which was great.
The location is very scenic and very close to town. The tent is well equipped. I can see the potential for those without dogs or small kids to have a relaxing time.
There's not enough privacy from the host and her 5 dogs. It wasn't mentioned that there would be dogs free roaming and unwatched. Straight away we were out on the back foot because of this, because our dog is half blind and not comfortable around so many other dogs. The dogs are very curious and kept 'invading' the area we occupied. We were unable to relax and the dogs did not get on. I feel this was extremely unfair for a location advertising privacy. Secondly, the tent was not clean from large (to us) dead spiders, and webs, and the couch smelled. The host told us a story about a much larger tame spider that likes to inhabit the tent. This lead to a horrible feeling for my family, not feeling safe, not knowing if there were more spiders or where the next sighting would be. Lastly, the host and her friend sat next to the pool the entire day drinking and talking. This did not make the pool area feel very inviting. Towards the end of the first evening it became clear that the experience would not get better. It would not be a relaxing stay. My wife and daughter were upset and wanted to leave. I felt the same. We paid for 3 nights, but that would be 3 too many. We packed our bags and left.
Loction was perfect. Bathroom facilities could possibly be improved a bit. Shower drainage must be checked reguarly.

My stay at the cottage was very safe and private and although security like cameras and code gate is in place an extra security was the dogs 🐕 which were a great alarm for any intruders whatsoever but it was not the case but only guests. The environment is very clean and the nature is a stress reliever from the rush of the city .The host Joanne is very friendly and create an environment of family and make all guests feel at ease and comfortable. The environment is also children and pet friendly It's realy a comeback for me to experience the warmth of winter ✨️ Thx 😊 muchness Joanne for your hospitality and your friendly staff. You are a star 🌟
Everything was to my liking
Crisp clean room, super shower, private entrance, super host. Beautiful & peaceful setting. And of course human-friendly dogs greeting you with smiles!
Leaving!
Beautiful scenery and loved the hot tub.
Cottage could use a bit of a refresh inside.
Room with enough spae
Bed without top sheet
run away from this place. owner that got cameras and microphones placed in different private areas and use the records to threatened you later on. Absolute intrusion on your privacy!! Illegal!!
The host was very friendly, offering assistance. The whole property is a beautiful estate with a very beautiful environment. Nice to see a swimming pool and communal area so clean. The ease of access was also appreciated. Very nice outside fireplace.
The kitchen area of our room was a little bit dirty. We did see a few cockroaches which can be expected on a farm. Other than that, no complaints about the place.
The braai area was good with wood provided. The bedroom was spacious. It was well placed to visit the Tulbagh wine farms and was close to some good restaurants
Villa Tarentaal looks very jaded and is much too rustic for our taste.
The host was there to greet us
The environment was very peaceful and the host was very nice. The pool was amazing and the room was very comfortable
There were lots of small cockroaches in the room, which was very uncomfortable at night
I loved everything about the accommodation, the owners and the little town.
Bookings.com's inefficiency! I will no longer be using Booking.com because I have been disappointed by your service twice. I am not sitting around waiting for a third time. The first time I booked accommodation, the owner of the place called me to say that the accommodation was already booked for the dates that I chose after I had already paid. I was refunded, but that is not the point. Bookings.com had it available on the site, which means that you do not adequately update your site. The second time, this weekend we arrived at our accommodation and the owners were not aware of our booking, lucky for us they had availability and they were kind about YOUR mistake. Again, you did not update the owners, your system is a mess.
Close to town. Quiet when dogs were not barking.
Host was not at establishment to receive us No electric blanket.
The hospitality and welcome was 10 out of 10...The owners were friendly and made us feel at home instantly.Ill definitely return.

The room was great, all our needs were met.
The walking path seems to have overgrown, it might be an idea to recreate a path to make it easier for visitors to find.
No breakfast offered, unfortunately.
The location was a short distance off the highway, private and quiet. The hosts entertained us and allowed us to have a memorable braai, and it was great to enjoy the company of Joan and Angie. The room was really large with a comfortable bed. The hosts made us feel so welcome, and gave us good information of nearby places to visit, including the waterfall, nursery and Church street. The cleaning and maintenance staff greeted us in the morning and were also friendly. We had a great stay and would certainly recommend Villa Tarentaal to any visitor.
There is no backup power during load-shedding, and I think that affected the WiFi which didn't seem to work too well when we were there.
Beautiful room, friendly and helpful staff.
The room is a bit light during the night.
