Provider-sourced guest reviews.
From the moment we arrived for breakfast, the team at Rockliffe Hall set the tone with warm professionalism, calm efficiency, and genuine care. Every touch felt considered—from how smoothly things were flowing through the dining space to the thoughtful way tables were attended to and guests were welcomed. A special mention must go to Helen. Her performance was truly incredible. She has an exceptional eye for detail and an instinct for making sure everything feels effortless: checking in at exactly the right moments, noticing small needs before they were even mentioned, and ensuring that the whole breakfast experience ran flawlessly. Her attentiveness was consistent, never intrusive—just spot-on. It’s clear she takes real pride in the standard she delivers, and her care made a noticeable difference to our morning. Helen is surly a Manager in the making Overall, the breakfast experience was not only delicious, but delivered with a level of service that’s rare—polished, welcoming, and clearly underpinned by strong teamwork. Please pass on our thanks to Helen and the entire breakfast team for making our stay feel genuinely special.
Great hotel with genuinely friendly staff, always a pleasure to speak with them. The quality of the food for the price was excellent, and breakfast in particular was something to look forward to each morning, with a great selection and brilliant staff running it smoothly. Even though there was work going on at the hotel during our stay, we didn’t notice any disruption at all, which was impressive. We stayed for three nights and overall had a really enjoyable experience. That said, a couple of small areas could be improved. The dressing gowns in the room were in poor condition and felt unpleasant. They would benefit from being replaced with newer, thicker ones. It would also be good if they were refreshed daily. The towels were clean, but they lacked a sense of quality or luxury you might expect at this level. The spa itself was great, but there weren’t enough beds available at times, which seemed to be due to towels being left unattended. This is something staff could keep on top of more closely. That said, these are minor points in the grand scheme of things, not exactly real world problems, and we would 100% stay again.
I highly recommend this gorgeous hotel - it never disappoints. Everything there is of excellent quality and the service is exceptional. It absolutely deserves its 5 star rating. We will be back soon
The full stay was excellent, the staff were lovely. We enjoyed use of the spa and a treatment. I would 100% recommend.
Lovely meal at the clubhouse, a very friendly and knowledgeable team happy to converse with guests and truly make for a memorable experience, unfortunately I didn’t get the young lady’s name who served us but she was a light brunette with glasses, such a lovely lady, and an Italian gentleman assisting with our wine for the evening very knowledgable and more than happy to guide with the wine selection in our preferences
Just had a cracking breakfast in the clubhouse at Rockliffe. As always food was great and the service was even better from Harriet and Helen. Thanks again👌
Perfect customer service and food. Helen expertly serving us with Harriott sparking conversations making us feel included. 5 star experience- will definitely be coming back
Great breakfast as always at Rockliffe Hall. Helen and the morning staff on Saturday look after us so well. The Eggs Royale is amazing and recommended
Amazing hotel. The spa is exceptional and the room was fab. Food and service were great. Would definitely recommend.
Had breakfast at be club house on Saturday, the food was great and there was flexibility when I asked for changes to be made to the standard order. Helen and the team looked after us, worth a visit if you haven’t visited.
Great to have all the poached egg items back on the menu. Second time we have been in 2 weeks the eggs Benedict is just divine. We love coming to the clubhouse the ladies always give a warm friendly, genuine welcome.
We usually visit Seaham Hall, but thought we would try Rockcliffe Hall for a change. We were very disappointed with this decision. The room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable, however certain aspects were not cleaned thoroughly enough - such as fluff and dust on the dressing table and dust on the desk. Unlike Seaham Hall, there were no complimentary items left other than a bottle of water. Crisps from the minibar are £8.50 which is just ridiculous. We weren't shown around the spa and were just pointed in the direction of it, given that this was our first time visiting, it would have been nice to have been shown around. Upon entering the spa, we approached two free loungers, to find that there was someone else's apple core and rubbish left on the side table. No staff members walked around the pool area, so we disposed of this ourselves after 15 minutes. My husband found the water dispenser was empty so approached the bar, where he found a group of staff members chatting. When he informed a member of staff about the empty water dispenser, this staff member tutted rudely before walking off. We had an evening meal - which is served in the clubhouse, a few minutes drive from the hotel itself. My starter was the cheese souffle - the sauce had split so it was lumpy as a result (see photo). It should never have left the kitchen. I mentioned the split sauce to the waiter who asked if we enjoyed our starters, and didn't get so much as an apology for this. For my main course, I ordered the ribeye steak medium-rare. It was served to me medium. If you're paying £48 for a steak (without sides which are charged extra), you expect it to be cooked properly. The steak itself was mediocre. A very unsatisfactory, expensive meal. Upon checking out the following morning, the receptionist showed my husband our invoice for £217 (which was correct for our 2 course dinner, bottle of wine and two beers). He was told this would be charged to the card details he had provided at check in. It was only once we had left, that he discovered £748 had been deducted from his account. I will also add that the additional £531 was deducted in another three transactions of differing amounts, which looks very suspicious. He immediately contacted Rockcliffe Hall and was told very flippantly he would have to wait for the accounts manager to contact him on Monday. No apology was given for this £531 overpayment! He has since spoken to the account manager and been told that this will be reimbursed within 5 working days - this is appalling and only added to our incredibly disappointing experience of Rockcliffe Hall. We absolutely did not have a 5* experience and feel very let down by Rockcliffe Hall.
We had a fabulous girls overnight stay. Even though the hotel is going through major renovations, you would never know. Everything was perfect. Spa used to be better, that’s definitely lost its edge. It used to be the best in the region but fountains and coloured lights have not been maintained so this impacted on the sensory experience. It is spotless and we still had a lovely time.
Everything great about this place and food is superb, breakfast choice is fantastic and best porridge ever
Our 1st visit to the Rockcliffe and it was amazing! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left was perfect. The concierge and reception staff gave us a warm greeting and check in was really straightforward. Our room was amazing with everything we needed for a perfect stay. The spa was beautiful so serene and relaxing! The wave spa garden was sheer bliss....sipping prosecco in an outdoor thermal pool in february!!! We ate in the clubhouse restaurant and again everything was perfection!! Every single member of staff made sure we were looked after and nothing was a problem to them. Thank you so much for a 1st class experience!!
Great spa hotel with exceptional service, stayed for 2 nights at the end of January. I would rate as a 4.5/5 as I think the current dining options are behind the quality of the rest of the hotel - hopefully being rectified through the current renovation! The room was beautiful, enjoyed having a proper dressing table and turndown service. The spa was lovely, well equipped and wasn’t too busy during our stay, we really enjoyed the hydrotherapy pool. We paid for the Spa Garden which was also nice - only criticism here is service on getting drinks could be improved. In general the service throughout the hotel and in The Clubhouse was exceptional, there is also a shuttle from reception to The Clubhouse which is a nice touch. We had one complaint during our stay which was rectified promptly and professionally by Amy at reception. The pillows were also too soft for us so we asked at reception and they put firmer ones in the room for us whilst we were at dinner - great service! The food at The Clubhouse and Cafe Terra was of a high standard but just quite limited options so we did dine out locally on the second night of our stay. We’d love to return once the renovations are complete and the additional dining options opened. Thank you for a lovely stay :)
From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave everything is luxury. The hotel service and facilities are exceptional. The spa facilities are clean and plentiful and the rooms are beautiful. 5 star luxury beds that I slept like a baby in. So relaxing!
All staff lovely, helpful and go that extra mile. Rooms and general facilities are excellent. We felt welcomed and special. Food gorgeous....breakfast offerings had both quality and quantity. Staff in the bar lovely and friendly and easy to talk to.Whole experience wonderful...but short- lived! Highly recommend!
The sides didn’t arrive with our mains so we had to wait for over five minutes and then when they arrived, the main mail was cold. The service after breakfast was poor beans arrived called and when I sent them back the second portion was Luke warm.. it was our anniversary and we were deeply disappointed as we have been many times to Rockcliffe but it totally ruined our stay unfortunately.
Would have given 3 1/2 based on the lovely bar staff Took a while to write as was considering what to say. Went for overnight Gala New Year Eve stay. Have visited several years ago so had high expectations. The positives - lovely friendly reception staff and check in. Appreciation for free drink in Alpen Bar which was ok. Room was lovely and bed was comfortable. Bit mean on toiletries one travel size shower gel for the shower and bath for 2 people. Room service coffee fast and friendly. Turn down service very good no complaints. Now for the negatives. Every time I’ve been to a spa you are welcomed and shown around not told sit over there and fill the form in. No one came to take it from me or show me to the changing area I just felt I had interrupted their conversation! Treatment was nice enough and therapist was nice but mood already set sadly and we both laughed when she suggested I needed an oil for stress relief. I try to visit a spa monthly so I know exactly what to expect in service and treatment. Gala dinner stated well loved the champagne reception except the advertised canapés appeared to be the starter and served at the table. Very disappointing. Soup was ok fish was a pice of cod swimming in a sauce with texture of soup and main course was beyond disappointing. It was a catered event but the numbers were not large enough to excuse the underwhelming main with no sides. Desert was ok. Petit Fours but no coffee so ordered one which took 20 mins to arrive and was cold! Band was good then a fire broke out! It wasn’t the fault of the hotel that’s accepted but how you deal with the fall out is how you are judged. Evacuation was quick. Stood in freezing car park until moved to club house where given a free glass of champagne not even a drink ! Back to hotel which understandably smelt of smoke. Fireworks were good but that was it really the evening was over such a disappointment never got to dance and the charcuterie and cheeses were disappointing after stood in cold a nice warm snack would have been in order. Order lovely hot chocolate but again had to pay!The champagne at midnight or later as had to be , was always included in package. So in effect for a ruined evening all we had was one glass of champagne. What really horrified us was in check out no mention was made of the evening until we brought it up and they said that was unfortunate and smiled!!! No apologies for a ruined evening no gesture of goodwill. We paid way over £1000 after drinks etc. wasn’t worth half that amount. Won’t be recommending unfortunately 😢 as an aside I had an upset stomach over night and the only thing I had hubby didn’t was the Baileys in club house bar whilst waiting to return to hotel and my concern is it had been opened a long time as they had to search around to find some 😢
Fantastic room, we were upgraded on the day which made it a great start. The spa, massage and breakfast were lovely, would highly recommend this hotel
Went for New Years Eve gala evening including overnight stay. The room was nice as was the pre-dinner reception. From there it gradually and then suddenly deteriorated. The meal was ok to begin with but then became average at best. The main course and desert were poor for a venue of this stature. Shortly after the meal a fire broke out requiring evacuation. While the staff did their best and got us all to a warmer venue, the evening was ruined. While these things happen of course, we were amazed that when we checked out it was never mentioned and no offer of compensation was made Also if you can book room only then do so. Breakfast isn’t worth it with extremely limited hot food choice
My mum, daughter in law and myself stayed midweek for the winter sparkle deal. We got checked in by Erin who was so lovely. We used the spa which was lovely. Then all 3 of us had a treatment. The treatments were exceptional. We ate dinner in the club house where all our food and the service was really great. Most peaceful and comfortable nights sleep. Gorgeous breakfast - immaculate buffet breakfast area. All the staff in the hotel are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble! Anyone thinking of going for the ‘winter sparkle’ won’t be disappointed.
Beds far too hard. Disappointed with spa garden being extremely full and people hogging beds. So £25 to sit on tiled seat because pool too full. Hydro pool goes cooler at night!. Dining options absolutely abysmal currently!
Christmas at Rockliffe Hall was as magical as you could wish. The service from all the waiting staff was exceptionally good. Attentive, courteous and quite honestly top notch. Well done everyone for making our day special.
Had a brilliant time at Rockliffe Hall. The spa was really relaxing and well worth it. The spa treatment itself was spot on, and the views around the place are lovely. The Staff were great: polite, helpful, and made everything easy. They left a few things out for our birthday celebration, which made the day feel special.
Stayed Sunday/monday, staff were all brilliant very polite and attentive which is appreciated. Room was huge and well presented and team quick to change pillows as wife allergic to feathered type. Had the Sunday lunch which was very good, breakfast was decent as well. Spent Monday in the spa which we enjoyed. Had filet steak and sides on the Monday evening which were great. Ate evening meals in the club house which was fine with us given ongoing refurbishment to the old hall. Would like to come back when that is finished.
Credit where credit’s due - the staff are good; well trained, polite and professional The food - disappointing We had Sunday lunch, a group of 9 of us so had to preorder I had the beef. It came with silver foil stuck on the potatoes. I sent it back. By the time it came back the plate was barely warm. The beef was plentiful but a bit too rare for me. One measly soggy carrot, 2 roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, some uninspiring cabbage and some ok cauliflower cheese. Followed by a slice of cheesecake with a dollop of berry sauce - no mention of the berries on the pre-order menu. We then got the impression they wanted us out as it suddenly got very cold in there! Don’t think I’ll rush back. Our local pub does a better job.
Excellent break in a beautiful hotel .This hotel is well worthy of 5 stars. The turn down service is the best we have ever received with some chocolates mouth wash and replacement of coffee pods towels etc The dinner in the clubhouse was a delight especially as this was my wife’s birthday and at the end of the meal she was presented with a birthday treat. Everything is spotless and the staff are the service excellent. We do like a luxurious break and Rockcliffe never disappoints
We’ve just spent our wedding anniversary here and it was fabulous. It was a golf and spa weekend. All the staff were really attentive and friendly. The spa was excellent and the golf great fun.
I stayed at Rockliffe Hall yesterday after reaching a point where I truly needed to disconnect from the world and recharge, and wow, this visit was exactly what I needed. I’ve stayed here before, but this time felt completely different, all thanks to Anna. From the moment I arrived, she greeted me with such warmth and genuine care. She went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and made sure everything was perfect throughout my stay. Her kindness and attention to detail were exceptional. Every member of the Rockliffe team is fantastic (as you’d expect from a 5-star hotel), but Anna really stole the show for me. She’s a real asset to the hotel and someone who truly embodies what five-star hospitality should feel like. Thank you, Rockliffe Hall, and thank you, Anna, for reminding me how important it is to slow down and take time for myself. I left feeling rested, grounded, and incredibly grateful.
We had a great stay for our 10 year wedding anniversary this weekend. The spa facilities are fantastic, the service from the staff is excellent, it was an all round memorable stay and we'll definitely be back
Just returned from a 1 night D,B&B including spa package for my mums 60th and wow, wow, wow! What a beautiful and exceptional hotel. As soon as we arrived we knew it was going to be a magical stay when the chauffeur parked my car for me and a concierge took an our bags for us! The food, amazing! Bar staff amazing, spa staff amazing, clubhouse staff, amazing! They all couldn’t have done more for us, always checking in and so so welcoming! The room was beautiful and spacious with a TV in the bathroom! All the additional and complimentary gifts we received. The spa was wonderful but I would advise adding on the spa garden experience for the outside heated pool as it’s not part of the spa! Half the hotel was shut for a refurb which I wasn’t aware when booking but that really made no difference to our stay! It just gives us a reason to return. The other bonus was you can access the spa for your whole stay not just a few hours like some hotels, we managed to get in at 11am on check in day and used in the morning also! That’s a real treat. We will 10000% return when it’s all back open - Thank you to all the staff who made our stay very special. Money well spent and a happy mother ❤️
I’ve been coming to stay at Rockliffe since it opened 15 years ago. This time was some very much needed R&R after a so far dreadful year. We booked (for the very first time) a Superior New Hall Twin room due to my recent surgery so we both got a good nights rest. We were so pleased we did. The double beds each were sumptuous ! Breakfast the next morning was served in the first floor Rockliffe Suite (as The Orangery is undergoing a refurbishment). It was delicious and the room was perfect for this. The serving staff couldn’t have been more helpful. All in all it was the perfect R&R stay. We’ll be back once the Old Hall rooms have been completed.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the moment we arrived at Rockcliffe Hall Hotel and Spa, the service was nothing short of exceptional. The staff here truly go above and beyond in every way – you are made to feel like absolute royalty. A special mention must go to the incredible receptionist, Aly. She was an absolute star and made our stay unforgettable. While we enjoyed some time in the spa, she went out of her way to beautifully decorate our room for my partner’s birthday. To make the moment even more personal, she also surprised us with a gorgeous teddy bear and a handwritten note wishing us a safe arrival for our baby boy – a gesture that touched our hearts more than words can describe. It’s rare to find a hotel that combines luxury with such genuine warmth and thoughtfulness. Rockcliffe Hall doesn’t just provide a stay – it creates memories. We can’t recommend it highly enough this is our 4th time here will most definitely be returning.
Lovely hotel, our room was great and breakfast fantastic. Didn’t use the pool, fitness centre or spa so can’t comment but they looked nice. Did do a 7km walk run on one of the recommended routes around the hotel which was very scenic. We’ll definitely return when the build is finished and new restaurant is open.
We recently stayed at Rockliffe Hall Hotel and Spa to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, and the experience was truly exceptional from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. They were attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel special. The hotel itself is stunning — luxurious yet warm and inviting, despite the renovations to the Old Hall. Our room was on the ground floor in the New Hall and was extremely spacious, immaculately clean, and offered beautiful views of the grounds and the golf course. The little details really stood out: fluffy robes, high-end toiletries, and a turn-down service that made the whole experience feel indulgent. The spa facilities were top-notch - serene, well-maintained, and a perfect place for some quiet relaxation along with a few glasses of bubbly in the beautiful Garden Room. The staff at the spa were also excellent, ensuring everything ran smoothly and comfortably. We had a drink in the bar whilst watching the England Ladies Euro cup final on the huge TV screen outside. We then dined in the Club House Restaurant and were very impressed by both the quality of the food, the service and the staff - even surprising our daughter with a little birthday treat of handmade fudge. Breakfast was beautiful, a selection of buffet including pastries, cereals and continental as well as offering a menu of full English or other cooked to order dishes. All in all, Rockliffe Hall exceeded our expectations in every way. It’s the kind of place where luxury meets genuine hospitality, and we’re so glad we chose it for such a special occasion. We’ll definitely be returning - and recommending it to friends and family!
Sometimes treat myself to a short stay. Excellent breakfast. Evening meals a little pricey.
My wife & I had not previously visited Rockliffe, except for a coffee & a viewing. We were impressed. However, our expectations increased when we learned of the appointment of James Close as culinary director & his team from the Raby Hunt ( a favourite of ours). With this good news we made booking arrangements immediately for a few nights. Since our first stay under Jame's influence we have witnessed a steady improvement in all the food options across all meals in the available eating locations. On our most recent 3 night sojourn our culinary experiences were nothing short of outstanding. Our Saturday night in a busy Terra restaurant was the Burger & Champagne extravaganza. What a delight. I started with a Gibson Martini, my wife had a glass of the recommended champagne. Our Meal began with a trio of chilled starters, including lobster cocktail, salmon tartare Isle of Wight tomatoes puttanesca. Our main course Brooklyn Burgers, consisting of medium rare, dry aged Yorkshire beef, dill pickle, American cheese served in a brioche bun with with fries were superb, nicely complemented by a bottle of spatburgunder. For dessert we shared a fabulous blueberry cheesecake, so light & delicious, excellently crafted by Maria Close. On the Sunday ( which also happened to be fathers day) we enjoyed a late lunch in the Clubhouse. We with delicious shrimp cocktail & a wedge of pork pie along with the most superb piccalilly ever! ( sadly I was unable to buy a bottle to take away) For mains we had one plate of roast lamb served pink plus mint sauce and another of medium rare roast beef with nice hot horseradish. Both roasts were served with Yorkshire pud, roast pots & carrots, and mixed greens. Our fabulous lunch was washed down with a splendid bottle of Nuits St George. We left the Clubhouse after 2.5 hours fully sated & did not need to eat again until breakfast next day. In conclusion, the highlights of our most recent stay were all culinary. However, during our 3 days at the hotel we interacted with professional, yet friendly fom Housekeeping through to Sommelier. All of them too numerous to name were at the top of their game & made for a memorable visit. We can't wait to return for the El Camino latin feast. Barrie & Julie
We visited to try the pop up champagne & burger menu on Terra restaurant. We used to be regular guests at Rockcliffe but the last time we went, after lockdown, it was really poor. So we thought we’d try this deal. It was great. Started the evening with a delicious bottle of Cote de Province on the bar, sat outside watching the rabbits play. The pop up was absolutely delicious. We both had signature burger followed by cheesecake. All tasty and perfectly cooked. Burger was just a lovely balance of meat, sauces, pickle. Yum. It’s clearly popular and teas nice to see the restaurant busy. The service was impeccable throughout. Friendly, welcoming, explaining the options. Took the opportunity to explain the improvements being made. A great evening.
We had a lovely comfortable stay at this pristine hotel. The rooms are very spacious and air conditioned. Our room was ground level with an opening out to golf course with our own outdoor table and chairs. Everything spotlessly clean. Bedding changed each day. I had to request non feather bedding for one bed which was done without hesitation. Separate toilet and shower facility made it easier while sharing as a family. Breakfast cooked to order where the staff couldn't have been more helpful and kind. My son had a mocha and said it was the best he has had. Man working in the bar was wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable showing an interest in people . The golf course was v impressive where my son and husband played. I enjoyed a swim in the pool which was air conditioned and the changing facilities spotlessly clean. Everything was as youd expect at a 5 star hotel. If I was to be constructively critical, the only fault was the art work displayed in the corridors being repetitive. A little more imagination to the interior design would create for a more interesting space.
Thank you Rockliffe Hall, from start to finish, our stay was really wonderful. Arriving, we were met by concierge, who took our luggage and parked our car. Reception staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful and our room was spacious and comfortable. Dining at The Clubhouse, again the staff were tip top and the food was delicious. The 'turn down' service offered meant our room was refreshed and topped up with all we needed. We all had a sound night's sleep (once the grandchildren went to sleep!😁). Breakfast was unbelievable, staff again were amazing and all the food, that the four of us ate, was delicious too. The whole hotel looked well maintained throughout. Five star service all round.
Went for a golf weekend and had a wonderful time. The staff in the hotel and the golf club could not have been more helpful. Course was fun and challenging. FOod was great too. Only down side was a rude officious man on security at the entrance gate.
We have used the clubhouse on several occasions for meals & coffees with family and friends I wanted to write to commend the staff from the chefs to the restaurant staff for the fabulous experience we have had on every occasion Food always excellent and service exceptional Helen the restaurant supervisor is outstanding she is so attentive and professional but is so friendly and an asset to you Olivia was also excellent ! Thank you Rockcliffe Looking forward to the new restaurant additions to the hotel
Absolutely fantastic the staff so nice and friendly the food amazing and wow the room
Wow! What a spectacular place! I have had my eye on Rockliffe Hall, hoping to visit for a good while now, my partner took me for my birthday recently and the Hotel exceeded my expectations, we were blown away from the moment we arrived and the service was so impressive, upon arrival we were instantly greeted, someone took our bags and our champagne we had bought and during check in and placed them in our room and into the champagne into an ice bucket so afterwards when shown to our room everything was ready for us, the room was fantastic, so spacious, clean and comfortable and the best shower I’ve ever had. the spa was wonderful and the many sections such as the hydro room and spa garden, allowed it to be quiet and not over crowded, they served drinks too such as very large smoothies! For dinner we visited the club house, it was a lovely stroll over the golf course during sunset to get there, the food was amazing we thoroughly enjoyed it, with regular check backs from the waiters, after dinner we were offered a cheffuer who drove us back to the hotel reception. The restaurant even contacted the bar who held the bar open past close just to allow us some after dinner drinks and they were more than happy to welcome us and ask all about our stay as well as informing us all about the hotel such as interesting facts about the golf course being one of the hardest in the UK and the exciting opening of a new restaurant with a Michelin menu! It truly felt like all the staff loved to be there, respected their workplace and guests and they were all so attentive, professional and kind! Rockliffe now holds a special place in our hearts and the best birthday to date! We would love to return, thank you!
Arrived at 11.30 as we had booked early access to the Spa from 12pm. Grabbed some food in Cafe Terra - really nice. The spa itself is really nice; not busy or crowded. Plenty of room; was able to experience the thermal suite comprising of hot and cold experiences. The tepidarium and igloo were 2 of my favourites. We also had a 60 minute treatment each - I went for the hot rocks - absolutely amazing! So relaxing. My husband had the full body hot oil - very relaxing as well. We also had lunch in the Cafe Terra - both had salads - again enjoyable. At night we ate in the Clubhouse - short walk from the hotel. The steak was really well cooked and nice atmosphere in there. Breakfast too was very nice in a nice relaxing atmosphere. The room was very comfortable, bed was comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities with biscuits provided. Staff friendly, polite and everywhere clean. Overall really enjoyable stay and will be back once the renovations are complete next week. Only thing we didn’t know was you had to take your own footwear for the spa; as the spa is going footwear free or something like that - we asked for some slippers and got some.
Birthday gift for Wife. Excellent service from greeting us at car, reception staff polite and courteous. Room as always, clean and size was large, well decorated and amenities faultless. Spa Garden was exceptional 👌 staff friendly and service was excellent. Golf restaurant on night was unreal. Staff friendly and greet my wife with knowledgeable of Birthday and gift at end of meal, food and drink faultless. Been before and will visit again. Last year we ate at the clubhouse during a spa stay at Rockliffe Hall and it wasn’t a great experience. I spoke with the manager Shauna at the time and she was very understanding of the issues we had encountered. Tonight we revisited using vouchers given by Shauna and the food the service and the ambiance of the clubhouse was fantastic and very much in keeping with such a fantastic hotel. This was so much improved from our last visit it’s quite a remarkable transformation. I would revisit Rockliffe in a heartbeat for both a spa break. Overnight stay and meal. It’s truly one of the best hotels in the UK. For me the only issue had been the food and service and both have been improved to the highest of standards
We had a brilliant stay on 22nd April. The spa is epic!!! Staff are friendly, special shout out to Posh for her amazing service and chefs Dave & Dheejey for the excellent breakfast. It was a lovely stay, enjoying the Spa, the views over the golf course and watching the bunnies playing in the grounds when we got up. We will definately be back.
We visited The Club house at Rockcliffe Hall today for Mothers Day. I felt we had to write this review as the service was outstanding. We had a table of 6 overlooking the golf course and you couldn’t ask for a more stunning setting. The wine waiter was so knowledgable and went through everything with us and helped us choose the perfect wine for the meal. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff , they were polite, helpful and very knowledgable on the dishes we picked. The food was presented to the highest of standards and every course tasted amazing . Thank you for making Mothers Day so special and the gift you gave myself and my mum made our day, we will definitely be back. Please can you thank all the staff they re a credit the hotel .
We visited this spa with high hopes of it being the best, but unfortunately it wasn't. Yes it is 5*, but unfortunately the spa didn't really relax us. The saunas were all the same temperature, even though they were supposed to be different. When I sprinkled water over the coals, they just stayed wet and didn't even hiss! The hydro pool area was far from relaxing. There is a pointless water fountain in the middle of the pool, which just made it very noisy! The tiny infra red sauna was like being in a wardrobe, just a bit hotter. Can't say the steam rooms weren't particularly steamy either. Then there was the igloo, this was the best room, but we didn't get hot enough to really need to be in there more than 2 minutes. We paid extra to use the spa garden, the sauna there was a bit hotter, but the heated loungers were not heated at all. The small outdoor hydro pool was wonderful to use though, with lovely views. Luckily there wasn't anyone else in there, or it would have been rather crowded with another 4 +couples. We finished our spa early, and planned to try it again the next day after breakfast, hoping the saunas would be better and the steams to have more steam. But we're shocked to learn that they wanted an extra £80 to go in there, as can only use the facilities until check out at 11am! (We were not informed of this at all, until check out) Had we have known this, we would have obviously gone in there early morning, rather than wondering around the grounds. We have never experienced this before in other 5* spas, normally usage is until at least 14:00 the next day! When I expressed our disappointment about this, over a lengthy discussion with the manager we were offered a rather offensive "gesture of goodwill" ......10% off !! It really would not have hurt to have allowed the usage of the spa, especially given the previous days experience. Due to the way this was handled, unfortunately we won't be going back, and continue our search for a Luxury, relaxing spa in the North of England !
We’ve been fortunate enough to visit this hotel several times over the years & it’s never disappointed. We find the New Hall rooms to be wonderfully comfortable & of a very high standard & the little touches are always appreciated. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary boxed cocktails which started our evening beautifully. Excited to see the new dining room when the refurbishment is completed - the Orangerie and bar was always a favourite so hoping they will remain - forgot to look at the plans available in the hotel. So pleased this hotel has remained within the Gibson fold for so long & long may it continue as we feel it contributes enormously to delivering high standards of customer service, often lacking from the corporate owned hotels. All the staff care - thank you & of course, we shall return!
Absolutely wonderful service and reception from staff! My son and I were only visiting to collect a voucher from the spa, but then both of us needed feeding! Every member of staff we encountered was really lovely, and went out of their way to ensure both of us felt comfortable and welcomed. One staff member, Diane, made sure he was comfortable in the highchair and chatted with him, which he really enjoyed. It’s so lovely to see others engaging with him and him really being welcomed into a space. Plus, the food was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the coronation chicken roll! Definitely give this place a visit, even just popping in for a quick refuel. I’d highly recommend. Thank you!
A lovely one-night stay at Rockliffe. Rooms are to a high standard, food quality is superb. The spa is very nice but one downside would be that staff left areas wet, so a few people were slipping. One disappointment is that our evening meal at Terra was not quite what we expected. Service was great, food was excellent (wine a little pricey but to be expected at a five-star really...the sommelier was a bit full on though), but we expected to be in a more formal setting than the same room used for 'Cafe' service during the day. That said, the balcony provides a lovely view. Overall though, looking forward to a return visit.
Beautiful elegant spa hotel. Tried both restaurants and was not disappointed. Room was spacious and well appointed. The view across the golf course was lovely. Spa facilities were excellent.
We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. It was absolute rest and relaxation. The room was spacious and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the golf course. Very comfortable beds. The pillows were a bit soft and unsupportive so that was the only slight issue. Nespresso machine and a selection of teas in the room was a nice touch. The spa was lovely with plenty of loungers, a nice big pool, steam rooms, sauna and lovely warm hydro pool and an outdoor hot tub. On the following morning we booked into the spa garden. This was a treat. Lovely pool overlooking the golf course, a sauna with a view and warm tiled beds to lie on and relax, tea, coffee and water included. In the evening we ate at the clubhouse. It was a nice little walk from the hotel (we were offered a lift by reception). It was quite magical following the lit pathway. There was a nice atmosphere in the clubhouse with a beautiful singer creating a romantic mood. The food was delicious but unfortunately my salmon was really undercooked /raw so I had to return it. I was given a free glass of wine and when the meal came back it was so yummy. I do feel maybe the cost of the meal should’ve been taken off. The staff were amazing though and really looked after us. Even some chocolates with an anniversary message! Breakfast was yummy and fresh. Plenty to choose from. Only thing missing was pancakes which actually appear as a photo on the website when you book bed and breakfast so I think we had them in mind. Everything we had was delicious. What made this place was the staff who were all wonderful. It was so special. We hope to return soon. Only taking one star off because of the raw salmon!
Fantastic Sunday dinner at Rockliffe Hall. Food amazing and the service from Helen, Lewis and the team was exceptional. A lovely environment and restaurant and great value. Would recommended the beef and sticky toffee pudding. Helen especially made us feel so welcome.
We had an amazing stay at Rockcliffe Hall, the service, food, spa and room was impeccable.
Second time we have been here. Booked the winter retreat for my wifes birthday, overall feeling of our stay was one of disappointment Duty Manager intervened following a complaint i made and she was very kind and understanding hence the extra star for this. Unfortunately, we will not be rushing back to stay again.
Stayed overnight on valentines weekend , lovely room next to reception but strange in the bathroom , the easy access was ok but 2 half used toilet rolls and no soap for hand wash was not what I was expecting from a 5 star establishment !! I had to use the shower gel to wash my hands after using the toilet so not impressed . 90 minutes in the spa gardens was good although fires were not on so didn’t have the feel of the pictures advertised , the food in clubhouse was exceptional really tasty we sat in quiet bar afterwards but a rowdy group came in so we left . Breakfast was good although it took a really long time was like 15 minutes for a cuppa tea then they brought the toast with it which was then cold by the time our main breakfast came , the whiskey porridge was my partners favourite and mine was delicious but not wowed by the main breakfast I’ve had much better elsewere , relaxing stay but not sure if I would return .
Fantastic place to stay. Had a great meal in The Clubhouse, amazing chill and relax in the spa and a brilliant experience overall. Room Service menu could be a bit better unless we were directed to the wrong page? Felt there wasn’t really much on there for just snacks, especially after having such a large early afternoon meal
Fabulous 5 *
Had the most romantic two night stay here with my husband! The rooms in the old hall are amazing and certainly worth splashing out for. The spa and beauty treatment rooms lived up to expectation. All the staff were truly amazing. From the moment we walked through the main entrance where we were greeted and shown to the check in desk to the very knowledgeable sommelier in the Orangery restaurant, nothing was too much trouble. The customer service was excellent. The setting is truly wonderful. With large open grounds to walk in or simply enjoy from the balcony of our room, I cant imagine a better place to have been. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to be pampered and to be made to feel very special. And I must mention the breakfast! This was simply amazing. With a huge choice it really did set you up for the day. I cant wait to revisit!
Absolutely fantastic. We’ve stayed before and loved the place. Spa, rooms, food all excellent. Couldn’t ask for better service.
We love visiting rockliffe hall On this trip we used the spa until late and ordered room service. All ordered within 45mins Every member of staff can't do enough for you
Amazing hotel and grounds. Service was impeccable and couldnt do enough for you. Very friendly staff Excellent
Amazing! Beautiful hotel with excellent spa facilities. A real trest
Lovely hotel very clean and well throughout, wonderful friendly and accommodating staff!!! Would have liked another dining option besides the clubhouse but the food was amazing!
Absolutely beautiful hotel ... Fantastic facilities topped off with a spa treatment for me and my better half !
Fantastic all round, room amazing spa facilities excellent, all staff very professional. Food at clubhouse excellent but you do pay for the quality.
Cant fault it. The room was amazing and the staff couldnt do enough for you. 6 stars
Great friendly staff and superb afternoon tea !
Excellent service from welcoming staff to receptionist to house keeping. The room was very high standard overlooking the golf course. In club house I would certainly recommend the food as this was a birthday celebration - I could not fault the service.
I’d give this 3 stars at most. Beautiful grounds, but that’s about it. Pillows smelt like neck sweat and were very uncomfortable, asked for a firmer pillow and they just put another pillow in the pillow I already had. Dirty bathroom , hairs and crime in the corners , clearly not been cleaned properly for a very long time. Disgusting for the price you pay. Breakfast was very nice, we were looked after my Poshan, such an amazing and attentive lady, Poshan was the highlight of our stay. Bar service was very poor and stupidly expensive. We were also charged for 2 drinks we didn’t even order, again poor as the staff should have checked room number as someone clearly put 2 drinks on our room. I informed reception and they cleared this off our bill. I’d avoid at all costs , girls rip off , over £1200 for 3 nights!
Beautiful property , service outstanding , relaxing
As always, a wonderful stay at Rockliffe Hall! The staff can’t do enough for you and always make you feel special. Gorgeous room and fabulous food at the Clubhouse, finished off with a delicious cocktail in the bar.
We had a wonderful stay at Rockcliffe Hall. The decor is stunning, the staff is professional and friendly, the spa has a range of wonderful treatment rooms and excellent facilities inside and out, the food and service in the Clubhouse is spot on and the golf course is top notch. Highly recommended!
This hotel is lovely. The newer modern rooms in the new part of the hotel are huge. Great outlook onto the golf course and woodlands. Very comfy. Large shower and bath.
High class
Very restful here. No compulsion to do anything Food excellent.
Have stayed here before. Lovely big rooms . Staff very friendly and helpful.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful
Wonderful hotel with excellent spa facilities! Friendly, attentive staff, always willing to help. Ate in the new Terra restaurant and although food was very good, the menu was a little confusing as it didn't explain that the main courses were for 2 people. We ordered 2 of them and this far too much. One meal was mostly wasted which ( at these prices) was an expensive mistake.
Wonderful spa hotel. Thoroughly recommended.
Beautiful parkland and excellent room and facilities - we enjoyed the spa and gym too. The gym was well supplied with machines and weights. All the staff were friendly and helpful and catered for a number of special requests. A shame we were there on a Monday night when the Orangery restaurant was not open as we would like to have tried it. Would definitely recommend.
Terrible restaurant
Total luxury
Came for a night away with my mum as a belated birthday treat for her. From start to finish the stay was excellent. The standard of service from all the staff we encountered was amazing - super helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Our room was nice and clean, and had a lovely view of the golf course from our patio doors. Spa was slightly difficult to locate as there is no sign that it is through the changing rooms, however the facilities are top tier. Nice little touch having complementary ice tea available next to the sauna, it’s definitely needed! We both also had a prescription facial which was absolutely my favourite part of our stay. The lady who performed my treatment (unfortunately didn’t catch her name!) was really friendly and she made me feel relaxed and taken care of. I came out feeling refreshed and my skin was glowing! Overall we had a fantastic time and we will definitely be returning!
Great setting
Great stay again. Friendly reception, and shown to our room which had been refurbished since we last stayed. Spa was excellent although we did not book any treatments. Evening meal at Club house was nice (we preferred the menu there) with excellent service. Highly recommended and we will visit again
Just got back from this hotel. From checking in to checking out the staff made you feel so welcome. We had the 8 course tasting menu for diinnee on Saturday evening and it was well worth the money. The spa was lovely and the grounds were lovely for walk. Room was very smart and a tv at the end off the bath was a nice touch. Would definitely stay again.
Was calm, clean, lavish and comfortable
Room was stunning. So spacious and beautifully decorated. I think we were in one of the newly refurbished rooms in the New Hall. The staff we encountered and service we received was first class especially from front desk/concierge. Really professional and set the tone for the hotel. Great welcome and first impression. Spa was nice but not as relaxing as could be. The big water jet fountain (purely for display, not something you use as part of the experience) in the middle of the hydropool is really loud and unnecessary in my opinion. It's not on all the time thankfully but you can barely have a conversation over the noise and the music in the tepidarium is barely audible over the noise of the jets and that's in a separate room. Bit of a shame that you couldn't get a drink whilst in the main spa area. There is a bar in the Spa Garden part which staff mentioned but didn't say how we arranged access to. Just that it had to be booked before. Too late by that point. Might be worth mentioning this at check in so people could book access to that area if they wanted. Food and drink prices are bordering on ludicrous. £17.50 for a glass of Champagne. £20 for a glass of Whispering Angel. No starters in the clubhouse under £15... We don't mind spending money on a nice trip but some of the pricing was just silly and put you off spending at all. A bit of a short sighted strategy. 8 diners in the clubhouse. No one in the cocktail bar. No atmosphere in either unfortunately.
Amazing hotel - beautiful room a stunning views- loved it
Lovely Spa, Food disappointing, very limited choice. Our suite didnt match 5 star expectations, windowless lounge area was dim & gloomy. Carpets stained. Thoughtful birthday card left for my wife but the Gluten free biscuits were out of date. Doubt we'll be revisiting
Excellent stay at Rockcliffe hall, from start to finish. Polite and friendly staff. Clubhouse evening meal was gorgeous, service excellent. Cocktails in hotel were lovely and service very good. Room outstanding and view was great. Checkout was quick and excellent staff. Spa was professional experience and recommend to all.
This place is a HUGE hidden gem! From start to finish, the service, staff, spa, value for money, everything was fantastic! We have stayed in many many hotels in the UK and this hotel has to be our favourite. The secret garden spa for an extra £25pp is worth every penny! We stayed in Tiplady 4 and it was perfect sitting outside as it was south facing so ordered a bottle of wine and nibbles before going to Nu Sana for an evening meal. Nu Sana food was brilliant and we had breakfast in the orangery. Highly recommend this place. We will be returning without a doubt
Had a great time in beautiful surroundings. The spa treatment was fantastic, food was great, staff were first class.Definitely going back.
My husband saved hard to surprise me with a one night stay , I enjoyed it but I do think that a 3 course meal should be included in the price , so I’m afraid we will not be returning J.Holmes
