My favourite place to stay, close to Delph. Always very clean and great food/Breakfast
Nothing
The room was fantastic (I got a round bed!) and very spacious. The bar with all the gins was a talking point. The food at dinner was really good and the breakfast was also excellent. The town of Delph is very pretty.
Very good Sunday dinner and breakfast
Superb hotel, friendly staff, great food, in a lovely location. The staff were exceptional in making our stay really comfortable, including an overnight lockup for our pushbikes. Highly recommended
Helpful, friendly staff. Spotlessly clean. Easy access.
En suite door didn't close. Door to the room also difficult to close quietly.
Welcoming ,traditional pub. Friendly staff, good food and clean comfortable rooms.
No complaints at all
Lovely historic building with the right balance of rustic charm and modern facilities. Great evening meal and breakfast.
Lovely property comfortable and cosy. Great facilities and lovely welcoming staff. Fabulous service
No complaints lovely visit
Excellent room, lovely hotel with excellent food and faultless service.
It is in an ideal location. The staff are very friendly and obliging.
The staff was very helpful and friendly, a staff member carried our bags up to our room, this was very helpful and unexpected. The food there was very nice, cooked fresh and presented well.
The stairs up to our room, i found it very difficult to climb them as they were narrow and very steep.
We waited a long time for breakfast but fortunately it didn’t affect our schedule for the Rushcart.
B breakfast could have been warmer,
We often stay at The Bell when we visit Saddleworth. It's a traditional friendly family run hotel, which isn't so easy to find these days. It has a quaint atmosphere, but is always comfortable and the Full English Breakfast cooked to order is always good.
The character and the quality of the food The staff were very friendly
Having to carry my case up several flights of narrow stairs I expected this due to the age of the building but it was still a nuisance
Staff were friendly and helpful. Very comfortable bed and everything I needed was available.
Nothing
Bedrooms were very clean, good size. The staff went out of their way to help us as there was no lift. Very helpful.
No lift
The room was lovely, and as a bonus the bathroom had an actual bathtub. Excellent food. Staff were nice, friendly and helpful. I would happily stay there again.
The music in the restaurant was loud and intrusive and - bizarrely to my mind - punk. (I am old enough to have enjoyed punk music in its day, but it seems an odd choice for a restaurant.) When I asked for it to be turned down it was, but it would have been better without any music at all, or with something more neutral, at background level rather than making one long for earplugs.
The charm of the hotel and the staff.
The price for drink was quite expensive.
Staff very attentive. Very clear. Stayed in the annex which was very comfortable and modern. Lovely food . Outside space was well maintained. Lovely fish pond
Nothing
Location
Very noisy group of people directly outside window for an extended period of time until 1115 at night
Glorious location, quirky building, fabulous bar area. Amazing food, fabulous hosts. Exceptionally clean, lovely welcome and fabulous food x
Rooms could do with a bit of an update, mainly very noisy plumbing coming from the room above us. Perhaps decor a little dated if that bothers you. Wouldn’t stop me going again though
Everyone was warm and friendly. Food was massive in portion and taste. The communal area for guests was a fantastic facility.
I have no comment on this as I was very happy with what we received.
The atmosphere was good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great.
Our room was comfortable but on the small side. There were no shelves for clothes like jumpers. Suitcases had to stand against the wall and impeded the space needed around the bed to get to the bathroom.
Apparently the room had recently been refurbished and this was to a very high standard. They had thought of everything we could need both in the bedroom and bathroom. There was even an iron and ironing board in the cupboard together with a heater and a fan and also a hairdryer.

The location was good, the staff were very helpfull and friendly. The food was excellent and the hotel was clean with good parking facilities
A Good relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.
Excellent clean room, great bar and food. Lovely helpful staff.
Nothing to complain about
Food was wonderful. Staff were very pleasant and very attentive. Room was very clean and comfortable. All in all a wonderful place to stay
Nothing
We have visited the Old Bell annually over the last six years and have never been disapointed - hence our returns. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The food, breakfast and evening meal are five star. The rooms are clean and comfortable.
Nothing - we will return!
Conveniently located. Spacious room and good shower. Super cooked breakfast and friendly staff
Accommodation slightly tired looking.
Polite, prompt service from check in to check out. Room was exactly as it was described - clean and comfortable.
Parking can be a lottery depending on arrival time as the car park is quite busy but the staff were very helpful with giving instructions on alternative parking so not a problem, just need to ask.
Location was good to where we were going. Breakfast fine.
Did not like that our room was facing very busy road so did not get any sleep. Thought that we should have been given a reserved parking space for residents. Only just managed to get a space as car park full.
Friendly and welcoming.
Nothing, it was perfect.
Great location, room very comfy, has all amenities in the bathroom, tea and coffee in your room, hairdryer, iron and a fan, food excellent, lots and Lots of Gin to choose from.
No disabled access - it’s an old building so would not suit those with limited abilities, we had a lovely room on the road side and the traffic is busy but didn’t affect us. We use earplugs anyways
Clean comfortable room, good breakfast and evening meal.
Great welcome on arrival. Room bright clean and airy. Catered for every possible need during stay. Thoughtful finishing touches and extras. Met local friends for an evening meal in the restaurant. Informed the staff of this in advance and were provided with a table in a quiet area. Perfect for our ten year catch up!. Food- great variety of choice, good quality and well presented. Breakfast the following morning was excellent with pleasant service. Thoroughly enjoyable stay, would definitely return.
Nothing really.
Room was very clean and spacious. Lovely hot shower and the bath was a nice surprise. Staff all very welcoming.
Thick winter duvet in June. I was far too warm and struggled to sleep. Breakfast was very disappointing. Came down at 8am and all the lights off and no staff around. Took a further 20 minutes for someone to arrive and then another 20 minutes to receive hot food. Staff were apologetic when they did arrive and I don't believe the lateness was there fault. Fresh pastries and fruit would have been nice but there was a poor choice of tinned fruit and some pre packed flapjack and muffins.
The location and the gin emporium. Very comfortable bed. Clean and well presented.
The staff were unprepared for breakfast meaning that it was served late. This impacted on the rest of my day. My shower wouldn't turn on either. No staff available early morning to ask.
Excellent room, friendly welcome & service plus a high quality dining experience.
A slight delay at breakfast, as we gad an appointnent but turned out ok.
The location, the staff, the breakfast and overall experience
We were offered an upgrade to a room on an upper floor which was a challenge to reach, but we were warned! The bar had run out of Tanqueray 10 and we only had one pack of biscuits in our room, none of which will affect our plans to return to this excellent old school hotel!
Den gamle engelske stilen.
Interesting well maintained building in a beautiful location. Helpful friendly staff.
Nothing
Really popular pub and restaurant but nice and quiet overnight despite being on a through route. Nice spacious rooms.
Some traffic noise but it didn’t bother us overnight with the window open a crack. The decor is outdated but it is good quality and clean.
Lovely area , staff were friendly when we arrived Breakfast was nice
Room 8 is directly adjacent to a main road , room was red hot , no fan , checked wardrobe etc , windows had to be opened which meant no sleep from the road noise . 150 per night for zero sleep was not value for money and the taps sounded like moaning mertyle.... All round disappointed
Great location and good service
Good stay and breakfast
Everything was perfect , the location was 5 mins from everywhere we needed. To be. The staff were superb The breakfast was delicious and perfectly cooked. Thank you
I've stayed there before when I was working away it's a lovely place great food friendly staff
Nothing not too like
We had a lovely stay, the staff were very friendly and helpful The food was great.
The stairs to the bedrooms are very steep.
Breakfast very good. Staff helpful and friendly. Hiid location.
Background overnight noise in our room was irritating. Sounded like an air conditioner unit or something similar.
The staff and comfort
Missing correct number of bath towels and en-suite door not closing
Could have done with usb ports in rooms
The setting was beautiful, the food was gorgeous and the bed was so comfy. We stayed in Rm 5 and it was lovely, clean & spacious. Would definitely revisit
The stairs are very steep to the bedrooms.
Great Taxi hire recommendation was very good
The Old Bell inn, really Encapsulates the best of British, Outstanding Food, Warm Ambience, spotlessly Clean and Stylish.....All situated in a Fabulous Location...... Staff are very Helpful and Friendly, Breakfast is an Exceptional offer.... and very Comfortable Rooms.....
Very friendly and very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. My evening meal in the bar also very nice and good value. Unpretentious
As a walker on Pennine way an earlier breakfast on Sunday morning would have been nice, but 0800 was ok
Everything
Nothing
Comfortable and clean. The staff were exceptional and food was great. Great pub/restaurant, great place to stay when on courses locally for work.
Not really a dislike, but the reason i didn’t give full marks for the facilities is, the toilet when flushed made a lot of noise and the tap also. Therefore during the night you didn’t want to flush the toilet incase you woke the person in the room with you or next door as it was very loud but i only stayed for one night so wasn’t a major issue.
Friendly atmosphere and excellent facilities
Location and age Busy pub with excellent food
Facilities are basic but clean and central
Lovely spacious bedroom. Very clean. Very comfortable bed. Nice bathroom all tiled with a powerful shower. Very friendly staff and helpful. One of the best places that I stayed in UK, concerning staff friendliness.
The staff were excellent. Very friendly, welcoming and ready to help with anything we needed. The hotel, bar and restaurant were likewise, very welcoming, warm and friendly environments. The food was very good, it was steak night and we had fantastic steaks at good value. The breakfast was also excellent. We had a lovely stay.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. The full English was very, very good. The staff are very friendly, informative and helpful.
The price of the drinks was expensive which was rather disappointing.
The location was perfect , old World charm by the bucket full. The food was amazing.
Nothing, all good.
Very friendly staff, especially reception and at breakfast. Enjoyed our evening meal, and the cooked breakfast was superb - one of the best I've had. Nice atmosphere in the bar and seems to be popular with visitors and locals, which is positive. Rooms were very comfortable and supplied with everything needed.
We were on the second floor and I think it might be a struggle for less mobile guests as the stairs were quite steep and narrow. The lady on reception did ask if we needed help with bags, but you may want to ask for first floor rooms!
Very friendly and attentive staff. SUPERB breakfast. Rooms comfortable, warm and generously sized.
Nothing!
Fabulous location, friendly staff, superb restaurant, great public area for guests and very clean rooms.
Not much apart from the fact that we were only staying for one night.
Great bath after a long day's walk! The bar was lively but the noise didn't reach the bedroom. Good choices for breakfast.
It did feel a bit pricey but admittedly it was on a bank holiday weekend.
Friendly and professional staff and lovely comfortable room.
Nothing
Very friendly, helpful staff, clean comfortable rooms
Lovely location, nice clean room, plenty of towels, comfy bed, good tea tray in room, excellent breakfast.
Breakfast hours are rather too early. Probably a little overpriced.
Cozy, quirky pub. Great location for us to support the annual Dan Lee Mil Race that starts at the nearby cricket club.
Great gin bar. Breakfast was amazing!
Food was amazing and wonderful service
My parents enjoyed their stay and the meal was gorgeous.
Nothing
Fabulous service from the teams, will go above and beyond to make you feel welcome!!! Great food!!!
Rooms are a little dated.
Breakfast was fantastic
Food and service
Room had strange layout and needed modernization
Good location, great breakfast, friendly staff, comfortable bed.
Great location. Nice welcome. Room small but functional and as expected in an older building. Nice to have character. Amazing selection of gin in the bar. Food in restaurant good with for dinner and breakfast. Overall, a lovely experience.
Oddly the bar area was a little small so.no table for pre-dinner drinks.
All meals were fresh, tasty and good value. Service was attentive and relaxed. Arrival information was well presented, friendly and to the point.
Everything. The food is excellent.
I didn’t.
Staff very welcoming and accommodating Food was high quality
Mattress was terrible Toilet didn't flush properly
Staff were very helpful and welcoming
There wasn’t anything .
Staff were lovely, very helpful. The room was nice and warm and the bed was really comfortable.
The lock for my room kept sticking, also the sensors for the lighting need adjusting. When I closed my door I was in complete darkness for two steps until the lights triggered.
Exceptional service from staff very helpful. Room very clean and well decorated. Food was exceptional (had the steak). Overall very impressed.
I have stayed for work and the staff are fantastic. Breakfast and dinner service was very good. Rooms are very comfortable.
great breakfast and evening meal.we stayed when walking the pennine way.Staff were lovely and friendly. Food was great
nothing
There is parking on site. However, free on street parking is available. Dinner is available both in the restaurant and in the bar. However, it does get busy and booking is recommended.
The car parking spaces are a bit small for large SUV's. The room we had in the new extension was a tad small but, perfectly adequate for a couple of nights.
Enthusiasm of all staff. Rooms in old buildings often unpredictable and need someone to visit as a new quest to iron out ‘ flaws’, eg phone charging, extractor fans that sound worse than Concord.
Issues in more than one room with radiators not working.
