Breakfast good
The room had the light fittings dangling dangerously. The shower head did not stay in position and the bed was extremely hard.
View from the room was magnificent
No bar food available at the time of.m6 stay
Location was excellent
Dated and small Lots of steps to the room
Was a good breakfast lovely view from bedroom window and from dinning area
The bed was a bit hard to sleep on the room was a bit outdated
Location friendly and helpful staff
Good Breakfast
Fabulous central location. Breakfast was delicious & the staff were lovely. I always love a pub stay, the character of the old buildings is in everything.
Location
As is usual in Whitby, parking difficult
Breakfast excellent and a lovely couple cooking and serving
When your paying for supreme room you don’t expect a broken window and damaged light fixtures also bed very hard
Amazing location, friendly staff
Pillows too soft
Location is good
Building is looking really tired £ could do with cleaning up, paint peeling of ceiling, ceiling light not attached properly, bathroom grimy
Location was great rooms comfortable
Cleaning wasn’t up to scratch room was dusty
Great location
Quite noisy but that is the trade off with the central location.
Location and breakfast
Things were ok
Breakfast okay but there was a dead fly on my plate the first morning
Cleanliness of room and hotel. Could be better. There was a fingernail on the bathroom floor when we checked in!
Everything was very dated, Light fitting over the bed was literally hanging by the wire connectors. Not good. Fan collapsed when we turned it on. Sorry to say but its all very dated, and it appears to me that the whole place is struggling, as are many many places, due to our shit government crippling anyone who is trying to make a decent living. I hope the proprietors continue despite the above comments, because without you guys we wouldn't be able to enjoy Whitby.
Room was lovely, great view of river and bridge in middle of the town. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good. The only reason we did not score higher is that the WiFi was not available from the hotel but we were told we could log in to others nearby with just a password. This meant a very weak WiFi connection or none at all which is just not good enough in this day and age when everyone expects good WiFi, so they really need to get it arranged.
As above re the WiFi, everything else was very good, But WiFi is super important for us so they need to arrange their own WiFi. For this reason alone we will not stay here again.
View and location
Afternoon bar staff (although evening and breakfast staff was great).
Great location
Breakfast time was very limited plus check out was very early
Room was a great size and had a view, breakfast was excellent with a very obliging chef. And we appreciated being able to leave our luggage for a couple of hours. Pub had good ambience and reasonable prices for drinks and meals. Location perfect.
We didn’t realise there was no parking and with the bridge closed it was confusing as to where to park nearby. Perhaps it could be clearer that there is no parking and some suggestions given of where to park.
Perfect location and Whitby is such a fantastic place
The room was a bit smaller than we usually have
Location was superb, staff were very friendly.
A little dated in terms of decor (but this added a little to the charm of the building)
Location, centre of Whitby town. Cleanliness, quiet room despite it being the England-Norway match! Good breakfast, privacy is promised and delivered! Polite staff.
Heat - very warm room, weather was warm though. There was a desk fan in the room but it would benefit from a ceiling fan if possible.
Location excellent very good breakfast and breakfast staff very nice
Bar staff miserable and need to clean tables. Looked a bit scruffy outside because of it.
Location
Breakfast not as good as last year , no pastries as advertised on menus , fresh fruit didn’t arrive till we were having our cooked breakfast
The location was excellent, right in the heart of Whitby.
Understand the reasons why parking isn’t available but would have made stay superb
Our room was clean, bed was comfortable.
Attitude of some staff who dragged rest down with them. The Chef refused a client and extra egg despite him excluding other items from full English breakfast. Very rude greeting by member of bar staff stood outside at 10:30 on on our arrival back at end of night. Not impressed by the hour, 0830-09:30 breakfast slot. It's location on far side of swing bridge from town makes it very difficult. This appears to happen often during hit weather
Lovely room (room 2) great views. Clean and comfortable. Grateful for facility to get water and milk.
The property was in a fantastic location. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The bedrooms had plenty of space and over looking the sea. This property is also five mins from the station. Breakfast was delicious. Can’t recommend it enough.
Location was fantastic
The temperature of the property was very hot and stuffy No where near enough ventilation A lot of the windows didn’t open and no provision of a fan
Great location, breakfast was nice. Clean, tidy
Apart from one member of staff, I found them very unwelcoming. I felt as if they didn't want to be there
We visit the dolphin 3 to 4 times per year
I requested room 2 which we always requested it was empty but girl behind bar said we were given room 1 very dusty no green milk just full fat .
Well placed great staff and breakfast
Nothing
Delicious breakfast this morning great Location.
Location good , staff were pleasant , room was adequate.
The position of the hotel is excellent, not too far from car or station. We were in room 2 which is probably the best room being quite large, with a wonderful view of the bridge and river. It was clean and tidy but the toilet/ bathroom is cramped.
The hotel is a pub that has 5 or 6 rooms. It does not have normal hotel facilities such as the room being tided and the bed made while you are out. Milk and bottles of water were kept in a fridge on the stair half landing going up to the next floor. There is not a fridge in the room. Really these were all minor points as far as we were concerned and it did not spoil our stay. We would go there again.
Really enjoyed my stay. Very central.
Nothing
Location is excellent as you are so close to all amenities. Excellent room. Wonderful breakfast. All the staff are lovely & very helpful
Styr unna!!
Had a nice room overlooking the harbour. Dual aspect windows.
No complaints. A bit dated but on the whole everything was fine.
Great location, nice breakfast, great view
Only real negative was check in, the pub was crazy busy and we had to get luggage through the crowd. Not really a big deal.
Everything
Staff were lovely very comfortable bed breakfast spot on.
Nothing
I love the views of what you see out of your windows, I also love the pub below for a bit of night entertainment
Everything was perfect the staff was lovely but the only things I would grumble about is that there is no ports next to the bed make it difficult to charge my phone at night and that the curtains were not really black out so I was waking up too early and not getting the best night sleep. Everything else was perfect
Location good, breakfast good. Room was spacious.
Pub very busy and staff didn’t fill up tea/coffee facilities or toilet roll etc
Very central
Nothing enjoyable stay
The location was excellent The staff were very friendly
The room was a little tired for the money The breakfast was average
Loved the location - I’ve been here before and it is always lovely to stay here! The staff are always friendly. The rooms are always confortable and it is right down the road from the 199 steps to the Abbey. I would 100% stay here again.
Our breakfast wasn’t great and very overdone done.
部屋からの川の河口の湾内の眺めが最高。 そしてスタッフの人が優しい。 困っている時にとても親身になって助けてくれた。
Location
No where to put anything in the bathroom, needs a shelf or something. Shower head was damaged and wouldn't upright. Needed.extra pillows Not very welcoming by bar staff, breakfast gentleman perfect tho. Very small room, pictures misleading. We booked for 3 nights, had enough after two. Glad to get home. WiFi very poor too.
Really enjoyed it
Everything was ok 😘
Perfect location. Very clean
Fantastic room, massive with window view over harbour, superb
Only issue was parking, there is a car park near but rammed, next car park 8min walk, but it didn't detract from pleasure of stay, parked outside to drop wife and bags, did same on leaving
I have been double charged.Tried 4 times to reclaim my money.Been told everytime it would be resolved 2 months later.
Good breakfast, friendly staff
Location and family room an and very helpful staff. And good breakfast
Nothing
The Hotel is in a great location to explore the town, right on the swing bridge and close to the 199 steps that lead to the Abbey.
All good, there is nor on site car park but we managed to park just around the corner in Church Street for £13 for 24 hours.
Location Great view from our room Good breakfast
Location is great, staff friendly, lots of character, room very spacious and comfortable.
Breakfast very basic but staff were amazing.
Great place in great location
Everything was brilliant
Everything was spot on
Friendly welcoming staff, great location. Clean room.
Staff great and very helpful, breakfast excellent
Pillows too soft and thin but that my preference so not really a negative with hotel
We liked everything about The Dolphin, location and staff were so amazing. Can’t wait to stay here again when we get back to Whitby.
No WiFi in bedrooms that we could find but meant we enjoyed our stay more as weren’t on Phones in the morning and got up and on with our day.
Location staff
Room wasn’t cleaned or fresh towels or linen provided . Noise from other guests at times late night early morning not right . Shower head broken in shower . Breakfast could be better . WiFi non existent even though it was given the guests should come first not the public and work reasons . Non sky tv or digital channels as stated on booking.com But staff great all in all. Bed comfy .
Great location and the room was spotless.
The breakfast could have been better - especially the scrambled eggs.
Breakfast, location, room with an amazing view.
Parking but did go on bank hoilday. I stayed 3 nights. Would Book again.
The location was perfect
The shower flooded and the shower head kept dropping. The breakfast wasn’t very nice
Amazing location, in the heart of Whitby. Beds were comfy and shower clean and hot. Loved the views of the harbour and the breakfast was good. Used YourParkinhSpace App to find car parking overnight rather than a traditional car park.
Location was excellent we could look over the harbour watching the boats come in and out . We were next to the bridge so saw that being open red for larger boats at high tide. Breakfast was very good and staff very friendly. Due to location we could cross the bridge and be in the centre of the town. Good location for walking and seeing the sites.
Hotel lights on first night didn’t turn off until 12.40 but when mentioned it was sorted out for the next night.
Breakfast was good and the service quick and friendly. Room clean and very comfortable.

Simply a great place to stay in Whitby. Very.clean and well run establishment Central to all of the town.parking at nearby car park .
Location good public bar area. Very near to all areas of Whitby. Excellent rooms very large and clean. Will definitely go back when next visiting.
The location Fabulous views from room onto the harbour
The Breakfast was cold, the grout in the shower needs replacing .
Lovely little hotel with great views
Flush on the toilet was hard to push and was noisy all night
It was good thanks
It was a lovely time
Very good central location. Staff very good & attentive at breakfast
The bed was very very hard. Wasn’t able to sleep well. Has to be the most uncomfortable bed I’ve tried to sleep on. The shower tray filled with water which meant we had to have a very quick shower otherwise it would flood the bathroom - we did report this
Perfect location
Noisy from bar below rooms
Location
Uncomfortable bed
Great view over the river from the room which was spacious and comfortable. Well located for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. Tasty and substantial breakfast.
Nothing
Convenient and tidy and clean

The Dolphin Hotel is a great place to stay near the bridge in Whitby. Warm welcome from Gary, rooms were fine, with great views of the harbour. Good selection of beers in the friendly bar. Proper, freshly cooked breakfast, plus fruit, cereals etc. And all served to the table, including toast!! A lovely experience from start to finish
The location etc parking always seems a problem these days
I asked for an accessible room on original booking but ended up 3 flights of stairs into furthest room unfortunately. But I put that down to my changing the booking and it may have been overlooked
Friendly staff, delicious breakfast, comfy bed, clean room.
