The Studley Hotel

The staff were polite, friendly and professional. We loved the orchid restaurant. Location was great.

Our room had an outside vent in the bedroom which caused a lot of noise to come through from the outside. This disrupted our sleep and sadly ruined part of our visit to your lovely hotel. We are unsure if all of the rooms have this issue? It’s not good for light sleepers.

Location is good just a few minutes walk to the main shopping, bars and restaurants so it is fairly peaceful. Staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant which is part of the hotel 'The Orchid' is superb would recommend it.

Upon arrival the first thing you see from the car park is the carpeted steps to the reception, they are literally filthy and it gives a bad first impression of the hotel, you then get to the reception which is very nice, the rooms are sold as small double which is as expected, the shower in our room (37) was the smallest I have seen in a hotel. Car charging places are available but not owned by the hotel, they are 57p per kilowatt so quite expensive.

Felt like it needed a deep clean everywhere. I left 2 items of clothing in the closet, when I realised and phoned the hotel, they apparently weren’t there. Disappointed.

Brilliant location, facilities, bar and staff. Had a 24hr bar for guests which helped with the insomnia. All of my enquires were addressed and resolved.

No lift to the top floor, not an issue for me but will be difficult for some.

I’ve stayed at the Studley many times over the last 40 years. It remains a very friendly, comfortable Hotel in a great locations.

Room was a bit tired. Needs refurbishment.

The ceiling fan was very very dusty! This hotel is not great if you have issues with stairs as even if you use the lift there are still some stairs to negotiate .

The narrow staircase where a bit difficult as we are of an age but we managed well with the Lift.

Parts of room not properley cleaned needed updating like curtains and need of new curtain rail bedroom carpet not the best. Dust toilet brush needed replacing back of toilet not cleaned properley.

The hotel is in a great location and parking was available on a pre arranged basis.

We stayed 2 nights and our room wasn't made up or cleaned at all and we were disappointed to arrive back at the hotel around 11pm and find the room as we had left it earlier that morning. When I spoke to the hotel reception about it they implied it was my error for not putting a 'Please make up my room' sign on the door and that's why it was left uncleaned etc. I appreciate there are 'do not disturb' signs and 'please make up my room' etc but I don't recall ever having stayed at a hotel before where that is a prerequisite for a room to be cleaned !! There is no aircon in the room and it gets very hot. The room we stayed in was boiling and had an overriding smell of either the breakfast cooking, or an aroma of the menu selection available at The Orchid restaurant.

Great location for the centre of Harrogate. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms comfortable and a decent size.Lovely bathtub. Iron and kettle provided.Will definately return.

One of my party had to change rooms due to a very bad drainage smell. However this was done promptly.

Stayed at The Studley Royal many times before, so whilst celebrating our wedding anniversary walking in the Yorkshire Dales we decided to finish off with a one night stay and a meal in the Orchard Restaurant. Excellent meal and hotel.

When we returned to our room I switch on the ceiling fan to see no blades moving, just a buzzing sound. The Night Manager came and agreed there was a fault with the fan and whilst looking at the ceiling we noticed that the Fire Alarm had been removed. Shock-Horror! The manager also shocked, could not explain why the fire alarm was missing but apologised profusely and move us to another room, with two fans and a fire alarm. He could not have done anything more. The next morning I asked to speak to the manager only to be told that he was too busy! I ask for him to contact me at his convenience. Ten days later nothing! We would have given a much higher score had I received a message/call from the manager to explain why the fire alarm was missing and reassure us that this wouldn't happen again.

Room was executive double, whilst it was large contained a fridge and had air con, it was in an annexe overlooking car park. Private function was on Friday night and people were in front if our room 11.30pm smoking, so had to shut window for noise and smell. Plus corridor noisy and creaky so disturbed our sleep when guests came to bed after midnight.

Our top floor room was very hot and we were unable to turn off the heated towel rail.

The kerb appeal, looked good from the outside. The young female on check in was pleasant.

Our room was small and not particularly clean.The bathroom sink plug got stuck, the bathroom wasn’t particularly clean either with the back of the toilet obviously had leaks which had impacted the floor. The shelf above the sink was unclean and some old cotton wool pads were left in a plastic container. The paintwork was obviously not done professionally and it had an overall tired look.The bed was very comfortable although uneven floor which felt like you were sleeping on a slope.

Rooms were beautifully presented. Bed was a good size and the location was great. Staff were very friendly.

Lack of Aircon. It was very warm in our room and the ceiling fan was just blowing warm air around which made it difficult for us to sleep.

The staff were so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The location was perfect. A few minutes walk from the centre. Breakfast was fabulous, especially the porridge.

There were 4 people in our room and I got the sofa bed. It definitely needs a mattress topper, as I could feel every spring. That was the only down side.

The mattress on the double bed was two single mattresses which were saggy and old and the portion in the middle was so uncomfortable. It wasn’t possible to sleep on.

Bath/shower would be difficult to access if your were less able and the drain needed attention. Parking was an extra charge and just overnight. .

Location amazing and can park here. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room and bathroom had everything we could need. I would definitely stay again! The Thai restaurant is excellent too.

The double bed was very spacious and comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean and tidy the breakfast was very adequate and well stacked. We were actually visiting family which was just a short walk across the road so this location was perfect for us. We have used this hotel on more than one occasion and highly recommend it

I liked the location, so close to the centre of town. I really liked that the hotel had EV charging points and that you could reserve a parking place with charger in advance. The Orchid Restaurant was a great place for dinner. Breakfast was very good. All the hotel staff we met were extremely helpful and polite.

There was a bit of traffic noise first thing in the morning but this is absolutely nothing to do with the hotel and is to be expected in a large town.

We were accommodated at the very top of the building- WiFi was poor but more importantly the beds were not comfortable. We had 2 twin beds but the mattresses were well past sell by date.

This is a lovely hotel and right next door to the Valley Gardens. The beds are very comfortable, lovely bathrooms with beautiful toiletries and the staff are friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Although I didn’t try it this time, there is a very good restaurant on site.
