The location is excellent.

The bathroom sink does not have any space to stand your toiletries and the taps are separate instead of more convenient mixer taps. As the bathroom is so small, the shower door should have a sliding door instead of a door that opens outwards. The shower taps were separate and fiddly, instead of having more convenient mixer taps. The Spa was not free for guests which it should be!

Location and style

All hotels should be as good as The Parkgate. The staff were wonderful. We were early arrivals, but the staff said the room was ready, so please check in. The rooms were immaculate and extremely comfortable. We have travelled extensively and found this to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in.

The Hallways when you come off the elevator and heading to your room on the 3rd floor almost gave off a cigarette smell. Not sure if its the heating something. Its wasn't strong but noticeable to me

I don't really know where to start... When I arrived at the hotel, despite being encouraged to check in online and use a keycard on my phone, I was treated with suspicion from a very rude member of staff who made me prove I had a booking because 'they can't just have anyone walking in'... Yet later that day when I was waiting for the lift and a very dodgy-looking, very inebriated man was lingering behind me and my daughter, nobody thought to check that he was a guest at the hotel. I decided not to go in the lift while he was there because something felt off and as soon as we walked away from the lift - so did he, which makes it even more worrying. We were on the first floor and our room was directly above a very noisy bar. I rang to see if it would be possible to be moved because I had my child with me. The person I spoke to practically scoffed and said no, they're full (he clearly hadn't checked). That night I got hardly any sleep between the noisy bar and sirens. Didn't help that the 'black out' curtains let in so much light either side. I was staying 2 nights & was told someone would check if we could move the following day but nobody got back to me. I also tried to contact booking.com about this issue multiple times and am still waiting for a reply almost a week later. The following afternoon I called again to see if we could move and he said, very rudely, that there were no rooms available and I should've called earlier. I told him that the person I'd spoken to the previous evening said that he would get someone to check for me. He was very argumentative and unhelpful the entire conversation. It wasn't until I spoke about making a complaint that he very reluctantly moved me to a smaller room on the 4th floor (which I didn't mind as long as it was quieter).

Open doors at night, lots of rowdy loud people and key card NOT required to enter room areas. Luckily we were all in one room, I wouldn’t stay here with family again. I’ve stayed at similar rating hotels and this didn’t feel close. Worst part was being asked to settle a £149 bill that I didn’t incur, may of been an honest mistake but made me feel uncomfortable and less trustful.

Staines all over the carpets! The woman who met me at the hotel had placed something belonging to me in her bag, while in my room, she was in the bar and suddenly 3 men appeared at my room Asking for her bag! Not want I would expect from a hotel like this. I get the impression this isn't the first time she's done this. I brought this up with management in the morning who took my number to give me a call regarding the matter. I didn't receive a call.

Very friendly and helpful staff, we booked for an early check-in and our room was ready as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable, with an amazing view of the castle and stadium.

The bathroom was small, the shower door didn't fully close so let water out and the shower head was slightly leaking (nothing major, but for the cost of the room, you wouldn't expect these things), we were only there 1 night so forgot to mention it to the staff.

Prior to arriving and when I booked and asked about parking That they didn't explain that roads will be closed on the arrival date due to Pride weekend. We spent 2 hrs trying to get into Cardiff- Sat nav couldn't help and spent over £60 on car parking fees. Not what we were advised when we booked. And didn't plan for a long walk with two suitcases through the streets. We did ask at reception why didn't the hotel send an email out to all guests advising of parking issues, I certainly received lots of sales prompts for spa and afternoon tea availability! The carpark was a very large added and I wanted expense and a loss of hours on a hot Saturday afternoon.

The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. We were looking forward to using the spa facilities and nowhere did it state that these would be at an additional charge until we arrived.

We got a jnr deluxe suite for my wife’s 40th and it’s without doubt one the best places we’ve stayed. The location was amazing for bars, restaurants, the Principality, and most importantly the railway station. The building and suite were so elegant and beautiful. And the staff were second to none. Everyone, from reception, to concierge, to waiting staff, to room service and bell boys were beyond charming. The food was fantastic too, and very reasonably priced. A special mention for Harvey who went above and beyond to help us. Cannot recommend the Parkgate enough.

I’m a massive hotel snob and like to have an occasional overnight stay in luxury hotels when the chance comes up , we’ve always used the Celtic collection and have visited the Parkgate before , however this time felt completely different ! We stayed on the top floor adults only ‘signature collection ‘ I put a note in the comments for a chance of the best room available with the best view for my rate ! I was not disappointed! From start to finish everything was so easy , requested earlier check in and although not guaranteed I was lucky enough to be able to check in from 2:30! No fuss I opted to have the key added to my Apple wallet so just walked in and up to my room when I was informed my room was ready ! On landing on the 6 th floor the hotel had turned it up a notch , the spa was on this floor too, we needed a key to enter the floor, and on arrival in our corridor we were greeted with a coffee machine , Welsh cakes , jams and delicious little cakes along with a fridge full of cold still and sparking water , this in itself felt like a luxury I’d never been offered, even in hotels I’d paid more for ! We stayed in room 608! Absolutely beautiful , the entrance hall, the bathroom, the small lounge and bedroom were all tastefully and luxuriously decorated, we even had a pillow menu ! More drinks and snacks in our mini fridge and and a delicious little box of chocolates ! We looked right over the principality stadium and over Cardiff rooftops , it was a great view from a building in Cardiff city centre. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment there. We didn’t really come across many members of staff but the staff we did were very polite , smartly dressed and friendly ! All areas of the hotel were spotless ! Sorry I’ve waffled on but hopefully I’ve painted the picture well enough for anyone to try this hotel and the signature rooms ! Very reasonably priced for what we had ! Well done parkgate hotel , finding better will be a very difficult job !

The second time, we got engaged, and this time we stayed the night after our wedding — it was the perfect way to celebrate. After a few messages ahead of our stay, we were given a wonderful upgrade to a signature suite, a lovely surprise that made the day feel even more special. The room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable, exactly what we needed after such a big day. We were welcomed with complimentary prosecco and macarons, plus a fully stocked mini bar, all lovely touches that didn't go unnoticed. Breakfast the next morning was great, and the late checkout that comes with the signature suites meant we could really relax and enjoy the moment rather than rush off. From the little extra touches to the comfort of the room itself, the team at the Parkgate made us feel truly looked after. It's become a special part of our story, and we couldn't have asked for anything more. We'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special place to stay in Cardiff. ---

Loved our stay at The Parkgate. A fun, food‑filled weekend with the sister‑in‑laws, plenty of laughs, and the dreamiest spa to unwind in. My 50‑minute full‑body massage was absolutely amazing Anya, my therapist, was brilliant. She worked on all the tense areas, explained what she was doing, and gave really helpful advice on which TempleSpa products would benefit me going forward.

No plant based options on the room service menu, the staff did not respond well to us bringing it up, the labelling wasn’t clear, the restaurant manager said she couldn’t even guarantee the orange juice was vegan. Didn’t feel welcome, the attitude felt out of date, such a shame as we loved the hotel, but would not go back. How staff respond to “issues” is very important, specifically in a high end hotel

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We especially liked the rooms, which were very clean, comfortable and well maintained. The drinks were also really nice and there was a good selection. The location was great as it was close to lots of restaurants, bars and shops, which made it really convenient for going out and exploring the area. Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay and would definitely consider coming back.

The only thing we felt could be improved was the price of the drinks. We found them to be quite expensive considering the amount you received. We still enjoyed the drinks, but we felt that the prices could be a little more reasonable for the portion sizes.

I very much liked the hotel and the rooms are very nice and bathrooms new. My issue is the value with breakfast. I do not think the hotel should be charging for porridge on top of the fee for breakfast. This is not what I would expect of a high end hotel. This appears to me to be tight and penny pinching.

Had a massage from Paige who was very lovely and very professinal in her job, felt very relaxed and welcomed. The spa afterwards was so nice, definitely worth going to if you need to unwind.

Our one-night stay was extremely pleasant. Although we had arrived before the check-in time, we were offered a room immediately. The staff - both at the reception and in the restaurant - were very friendly and attentive. The room was very clean. We will definetly come again.

Check-in wasn’t great. Entrance Elevator was broken and apparently had been for 10 days. Everyone struggled lifting luggage up the entrance steps inside the lobby. Should have been staff to assist. Breakfast buffet was disappointing.

Lovely relaxed lunch , menu very reasonably priced with good options, food was delicious throughout all 3 courses and we were well looked after by Giovanna. Will definitely be back soon..

Lovely hotel - our room was stylish and comfortable bed. On our way to the hotel (during a four hour drive) we tried to call reception to book parking in the nearby stadium, but there was a technical fault and we couldn’t speak to anyone. We tried the live WhatsApp chat but no reply. We didn’t realise beforehand that booking at stadium needed to be booked 24 hours in advance. Luckily when we arrived the receptionist was able to book parking for us. Hopefully the IT has been sorted now as it was pretty frustrating. Otherwise a lovely comfortable, ideally located for our concert at Cardiff Castle. I was a little surprised that you have to pay extra to use the spa as would have expected this to be included at £350 for the night!

This is the second time I’ve visited Parkgate Hotel. It has been amazing every time and that’s down to our waiter Massimiliano who is amazing. This time was for my sisters hen do, with afternoon tea, the previous time was her babyshower. Both times this fabulous human, has been attentive, welcoming and utterly delightful. The man needs a pay rise!

Location is amazing for city centre. Building and room deco is lovely high standard and cleanliness faultless! But kettle bit shabby and shoved in the wardrobe no presentation no little nice pleasantries I.e biscuits or a variety of tea & coffees. Iron was leaking. And the most important no mini bar !! At the price point I do expect these small details to be better . As lovely the hotel looks I feel it’s lacking finesse.

Such a grand, opulent hotel. This was our first stay at this hotel. As a disabled person that struggles with steps, I was a disheartened to see that the lift just inside the entrance, was out of order, so I had to get myself up the steps. The immediate area was spotless and grand looking. There were two lifts to all floors, which thankfully were working. We had already checked in online, so we made our way to our room. The room, a deluxe king, was comfortable with a fabulous shower room and excellent tea/coffee facilities. There were many stains on the floor, that did put us off slightly, but the ready of the room was excellent. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. We didn’t have food in the hotel, but it smelled delicious. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

This is our 5th year staying at the Parkgate for our anniversary. Every year Ryan and his team make us feel truly special, from a complementary bottle of prosecco to toast the special day to the excellent service from Jamie and Giovanna at the Sorting Room restaurant. The rooms are exceptionally clean and cosy. We have been coming to the Parkgate for last minute getaways and more special occasions for years and have always received the same high standard of service and professionalism from all the staff but they are always friendly and down to earth, which is exactly what we prefer. We stayed at the Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff for 2 nights in one of their Signature Collection rooms. We really enjoyed our stay and it was worth the additional cost for a ‘signature’ room. We can’t really fault anything - the room was very clean, tastefully decorated and well-maintained, with a big bathroom with separate shower and freestanding bath. There was also a separate living area with sofa. The complimentary toiletries were lovely, and we really valued the complimentary drinks and snacks station available to the Signature rooms. The hairdryer and clothes iron were also good, being of ‘proper’ quality, rather than the ‘travel’ standard you get in other hotels. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The only thing which could have made our stay better would have been more veggie and vegan breakfast options, for example a veggie/vegan cooked breakfast. The hotel is well positioned, being within a 5 minute walk of the train station and centre of town. It’s worth noting that it’s right next door to the Principality Stadium, and I’m not sure if it would be noisy if there was an event on there. However, there was no event on during our stay and the hotel had a quiet atmosphere.

Best hotel in Cardiff no words but that

This was not our first stay with you. In fact, we have been staying at your hotel whenever we visit Cardiff over the past four years. During our most recent visit in July for my daughter's graduation from Cardiff University, we experienced a very disappointing incident. One of my daughters shopping bags was missing from the room, next morning to we enquire, a young member of the housekeeping staff informed us that she had thrown the bags away. The bags contained newly purchased items worth approximately £200. We immediately reported the matter to your management team. Following an investigation, we were compensated for the value of the lost items, and we appreciate that the issue was acknowledged and resolved financially. However, the incident was extremely disappointing and could have been avoided if the belongings had been handled with greater care. As loyal guests who have chosen your hotel for the past four years, we expected a much higher standard of service and professionalism. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling let down.

What a wonderful stay, i literally could not fault this hotel, we stayed here with a wedding party of 14 and everything was perfect, the staff we so so helpful with anything we needed nothing was to much. This hotel is probably the cleanest hotel ive ever stayed in and ive stayed in alot, it was spotless. The food in the restaurant was outstanding, the beds are super comfortable. Maybe the only thing is the price of parking in the stadium carpark but really thats splitting hairs. Would highly recommend. Also there Tower suite is absolutely amazing.

This is by far our favourite hotel. Came here for my 30th birthday and the staff have been absolutely wonderful. We stressed we were in a rush at dinner and Massimiliano was attentive, very quick and so personable with us. He even managed to quickly squeeze in giving me a small cake with 'happy birthday' on the plate. Food was beautiful too. We will forever love this hotel. Thank you! X
