I had requested a high-floor room, but when we arrived, we were given a room on the 23rd floor and were told that the hotel’s policy is first come, first served. It would have been better to know this in advance, rather than sending two messages and receiving “we will do our best” as a response. If I had been told that the policy was first come, first served, that would have been much better.

The hotel staff was very welcoming and warm and helpful - from the front desk to the restaurant to the bell man. The hotel's location is ideal - my sons live in the West and East Villages respectively and I was able to easily walk to their locations plus much of the rest of this area of Manhattan. The room was very comfortable and my street-facing window was large.

We loved our time here at motto! The staff were all so welcoming and helpful with anything we needed and the property itself is beautiful and in a great location

The room was compact but clean well laid out. I was traveling alone so it worked well for me. It would have been too small for two people to stay in the room with more than two pieces of luggage.

An iron or a steamer would have been appreciated.

The property was ok. It didn’t seem like a 4 stars. The photos online are misleading and it is a lot smaller in person. I was surprised with the high ratings. I personally did not like the neighbourhood. Some parts seemed ghetto. Location is central but overall you’re not really close to everything. If you want to do the high line and vessel it’s still a 25 to 30 min walk at a leisurely pace. The closest monument is the flatiron building which is a 5 minute walk. I would have chosen a place closer to Central Park or Times Square but not in Times Square exactly. The rooms were way too small. There was no place to put luggage. We were in. Double room with two beds and 3 people. Also the sink is outside of the bathroom. This is horrible especially if you have to wash your hands at night or want water. You basically wake everyone up.

Room assigned wasn’t ready until after 4pm although check-in time is at 3pm. Eventually I got a similar room on a lower floor. Some of the staff isn’t very friendly and didn’t explain anything about what’s included in the resort fee.

J’ai également adoré les événements organisés par l’hôtel : l’ambiance est très animée et conviviale, ce qui rend le séjour encore plus agréable. Et la nourriture était vraiment au top ! Une expérience que je recommande sans hésiter et un hôtel où je reviendrais avec grand plaisir.

The room was big for a New York hotel. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The location was central, situated between Sixth and Seventh Avenue in Chelsea and not far from NOMAD. It is about three blocks to the contemporary art galleries such as PACE, Hauser & Wirth and many others. It's also not far from The High Line. I chose it for its proximity to my friends who live nearby. Overall it is in a quiet, safe location and very pleasant. Jamie the receptionist was friendly and very helpful.

The lifts were a bit slow. I stayed on the 36th floor so it took a while for the lifts to arrive.

My husband is a lifetime diamond member and we stayed at the Motto for his recent business trip. NYC has a reputation for not having the friendliest of people, however, that is definitely not what we experienced at this establishment. We want to thank Edisson for his hospitality and graciousness. All the front desk people, Julian and Marissa, were excellent. I have food intolerances and the breakfast waitstaff/cooks were super accommodating. The rooms were cute and definitely “cleverly compact,” and once we found the drawers under the bed we were like, “oh, yea, super smart”. However, we never felt claustrophobic or anything. We highly recommend this place.

I have stayed here several times but just realized there are additional fees. It is convenient for that area. It is clean, basic and fine. The restaurant and bar are nice. The 2nd floor lounge is nice. The elevators are very crowded. There are no rooms without the bathroom sink being in the room. That is very annoying when you have more than 1 person in the room, as someone is always trying to get ready in the room at the sink, so you feel like you are in a dorm room. Be prepared for a $30/day additional fee that is pretty much snuck in called an "urban destination" fee. I called when I saw it on my bill after the fact to ask what it was because I wasn't told at check in. They said it was a "resort amenities fee". Resort haha! for the 2 bottles of water you get that have tags around them in the room that say $5, so who knew they were included. They offer you a $10/day food and beverage credit - but then turn around and say that is part of the urban destination fee - so it's not a credit really. Premium wi-fi (however when you login you only see basic as free even as a Hilton Honors member, which I am. The manager told me this fee is listed on the website (but I booked through a 3rd party) and inside the key envelope. lol Overall average and I won't be staying here again.

When we arrived at the hotel early in the morning, we were given the room category that we had paid for. Unfortunately, the toilet was not working properly, and there was a constant loud noise from the flushing system throughout the entire night. In the morning, maintenance came to check it, but they confirmed that it was broken and we were told that we would be moved to a different room. However, the replacement room we received was significantly smaller and was not the room category we had booked and paid for. There was much less space. When we complained, we were initially told that this was the room we had booked and that our original room had actually been an upgrade. Only after I showed the staff our Booking.com reservation and proved which room category we had paid for were we moved again, this time to a room similar to the original one, which thankfully was working properly. The entire situation was very frustrating and disappointing, especially after arriving so early in the morning, having to deal with a broken toilet throughout the night, and then being moved between rooms multiple times. In addition, I was told that all of the daily additional/resort charges would be removed from my bill. I believe these charges were around $34 per day, and we stayed for three nights. I specifically confirmed this **twice before checkout** - once the evening before and again in the morning -and on both occasions I was assured that the charges would be removed. However, during checkout, the front desk employee charged my card before we had even finished discussing the bill. When I noticed that the additional charges had still been included, I immediately pointed it out. A manager then came to the front desk and told me that it was my fault for not mentioning it before the card was charged. This was particularly frustrating because I was never really given the opportunity to do so -the employee processed the charge before we had even finished our conversation.

Best view I’ve ever had from a hotel room. Perfectly designed room- to accommodate every move of the traveler. Amazing experience from the bar, staff at the bar, porters to the clean comfort of a room with an iconic NY experience.

Top locatie! Maar erg kleine kamer en kleine bedden. Maar meer kan je eigenlijk ook niet verwachten voor deze prijs op deze locatie. En alles is top geregeld en dichtbij :-).

This is my second visit with the fine folks at Motto Chelsea. Everyone I come in contact with, be it a member of the housekeeping team or one of the front desk experts, is kind, professional, and very knowledgable. I have travelled to NYC many times over the past 26 years, and find the offerings at Motto to meet all my needs. The rooms are indeed cozy, but are set up to allow you to have a place for everything and everything in its place. As I like to say, Motto gives me everything I need and nothing I don’t. I highly recommend! P.s. Shout out to Eddison, Richard, Omar and Dana, all located at the front desk.

The City views! The layout of the room and the cleanliness was incredible. It was so nice to return to my room after a long day to a tidy room and the most comfortable bed! the location was perfect for my needs and so many great places to eat!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The front desk was quick to check us in and give us a rundown of things. The elevators were pretty quick for how big it is. The breakfast sandwich and lattes from the restaurant were a great way to use the daily credit. The room was small, but that is a normal NY room. It was well laid out with hangers for our clothes and toiletry bags, plus a hair dryer. The shower has all the toiletries you need. Plugs next to the bed made it easy to charge our phones. And the air conditioning was great, one of the only times a hotel room hasn't woken me up sweating. They checked our luggage for us on our last day. Oh and they have activities like dating events and trivia, plus it is right by several subway trains.

This hotel is in a great spot for visitors to NYC. An easy walk from Penn Station, and close to lots of “must-see” places. The room was clean, cozy and had everything I needed. And the VIEW from the landmark rooms on the upper floors cannot be beat! But what really impressed me was the staff. I arrived in the middle of a worldwide system outage that left them without the technology to check guests in efficiently. It was a stressful situation that would have had me in tears, or loudly cursing (or both!) but everyone handled it like absolute champions. The names Jaime and Marissa stand out in my memory, but everyone who worked that night was calm, kind and as quick as they could be in those strange circumstances. I especially appreciated the bottle of water while I waited after a long walk in the heat. Will absolutely make this hotel my go-to for future trips!

The view from my room was amazing, the staff were all very welcoming and kind. Room was comfy, nice bedding, good aircon. The restaurant and bar on the ground floor were excellent too, food was delicious, bar staff were great, and the cocktails were very good.

The Motto in Chelsea is a fabulous place to stay. The hotel staff, especially Richard, Zaida, and Khalid are extremely helpful and offer terrific customer service. The location is excellent and the hotel vibe is perfect. It is very lively in the lobby and the outdoor seating is great for reviving after walking all over the city. The rooms are very clean and quiet. This was my tenth visit to the property. There is no reason to stay anywhere else.

Another perfect stay at The Motto Hilton Chelsea. The staff are all amazing - this trip started with a super warm and friendly welcome from Priscilla - and every single staff member was so kind and helpful the whole stay!! I come back time after time for many reasons - the great and friendly service, the clean and comfortable rooms, the ideal location - to name a few. I’ll be back again!

The hotel and rooms were decorated nicely with a modern touch. The room itself was spacious as was the shower. The king size bed was comfy. The food at the restaurant, Lulla, was delicious and the location was a 10 minute walk from Penn Station, which made getting to the hotel extremely easy.

I was charged for a meal that I did not have. Someone else charged their meal to my room when they paid for their food bill. I only had one meal at Lulla in which I charged to my room. I do realize this kind of occurrence is not isolated to this hotel, but it still left a bad taste.

This was our 2nd stay and it was dramatically different. If you want to stay at a Hilton with-- no complimentary coffee, elevators that do not work ( you will be waiting more than 15 minutes EVERY SINGLE TIME), you aren't allowed to sit in the lobby with an outside iced tea or closed bag of pastries, your room will not be ready, even though you checked in on the app and arrive at 5pm... then this is the hotel for you. of the 4 elevators, 2 were not in service. And apparently there is not a service elevator for employees. We shared our concerns with management and were given excuses for every single issue. Find another Hilton property. This one is not worth the hassles you will encounter.

Great value for money in NYC (which is generally pretty expensive for rooms). We had a 4 bunk room which was perfect for 4 single travellers as opposed to the usual 2 double bed option. Great location midtown right next to Flatiron Building and a short walk to Madison Square Garden and Empire State. Loads of bar/restaurants nearby and plenty of subway options to get around. Perfect for anyone trying to do NYC on a budget without compromising on comfort.

The location of the hotel was perfect, it's in a walking distance from the flatiron building, has many places to eat near and also the restaurant in the lobby is really good. It has about 3 different subway entrances near, so it is easy to get anywhere you want to go with no problems.

The view from our room was out of this world! I’ve never stayed anywhere before where I’ve just sat and looked out of the window everyday because the view was phenomenal! We could see the whole of south manhattan. Loved the location Chelsea has some great restaurants.

No coffee in room and complementary coffee only until 8am. We did get a $10/room credit however which covered 1 coffee and a croissant for 2 people. Croissant was a nice touch, but it wasn’t very good even tho they said it was baked on premises. When I asked for the muffin alternative, they were out. Relatively minor issues, yet easy to resolve operationally. Also, a small glass of prosecco at the bar was very expensive at $19 without tax and tip.

The staff was so kind even with the amount of people flooding in. Housekeeping did an excellent job turning over our room even with our stuff everywhere.

Elevator wait times but it’s understandable with how busy it was.

I booked a room with landmark view, ended up on 33th floor and totally loved the view. Worth every extra penny. Even cancelled and rebooked twice few days before to get a cheaper rate on Booking.com. I stayed by myself and had enough space - with a second suitcase it's still manageable, but a bit more chaotic. Staff was always friendly. I got a fresh bottle of water every day. There's a tab in the lobby to refill water, too. Location is great, good cafés and restaurants in the area. Didn't try the restaurant in the hotel. Would definitely stay again.

This hotel is, in my opinion, significantly overpriced for the quality of experience it provides, and I genuinely question how it maintains a four-star rating. We stayed for one week and encountered issues from the very beginning. The elevator situation was consistently frustrating. During most hours of the day, all elevators appeared to be overloaded or unavailable, often resulting in wait times of 5–10 minutes simply to leave or return to our floor. The room itself offered very little sound insulation. The gap around the entrance door was so large that it was possible to see people walking in the hallway from inside the room. As a result, every conversation, footstep, and movement in the corridor was clearly audible, making it difficult to enjoy any sense of privacy or quiet. Housekeeping was also disappointing. Despite leaving generous tips throughout our stay, the level of cleaning and attention to detail remained below what one would reasonably expect from a hotel in this category. The breakfast experience was particularly poor. After trying it once, we chose not to return. The restaurant presents itself as Italian-inspired, yet basic elements felt strangely executed. For example, cappuccino was served in a glass with a tablespoon, which immediately felt out of place. More concerning was the food quality. I ordered pancakes at approximately 7:00 a.m., and they had a noticeable taste of meat and other residual flavors, suggesting that the cooking surface had not been properly cleaned between uses. At that hour, when breakfast service had only recently begun, this was especially disappointing and raised concerns about kitchen standards. Overall, the experience fell well short of expectations. Given the price point and advertised four-star status, I expected a significantly higher standard of comfort, maintenance, and service.

There was a subway station nearby and, as a family that likes to walk around places, we found it easy to get out and navigate to other places (though this would be true of a lot of hotels in Manhattan).

The staff was unhelpful—our room was not ready on-time (far from it!!), housekeeping took our towels without giving us new ones and then it took us an hour (with two phone calls and one in-person visit to the front desk) to get towels so we could shower, and then when we left an item behind they were deeply unhelpful and (unsurprisingly!!) could not “recover” it for us. To top this all off, our bill ended up being quite expensive for our stay. We deeply wish we had gone elsewhere.
