The most beautiful place we stayed in! The forest surrounding you, the common areas perfectly taken care of, the room with no walls letting you be fully immersed in nature, the staff giving you every day a warm yet professional hospitality treatment. Everything in this place is perfect! We loved the food as well, which was a great surprise of unconventional dishes always changing during our stay. The highlight is that this place resets your circadian rhythm, being fully exposed to natural light your body reconnects immediately. The property offers many different activities every day. In our next stay we will try to engage more with those rather than having a busy schedule outside. The team all and our lovely host Widi, special thanks to him, made our stay memorable during our wedding anniversary trip! And it was a pleasure seeing them all genuinely happy there and interested in engaging in conversation with all guests. It is a must stay in Bali for us from now on.
Nothing at all
An unforgettable experience in the heart of Bali — Buahan exceeded every expectation It is difficult to put into words just how special our stay at Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape was. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, everything felt thoughtful, personal and genuinely heartfelt. Buahan is not simply a beautiful luxury resort — it is an experience in itself, and one that we will remember for a very long time. The setting is absolutely magical. Hidden within the untouched Balinese jungle, surrounded by lush greenery, breathtaking views and the sounds of nature, Buahan gives you an incredible sense of peace and connection to Bali. The open-air concept makes the experience even more unique, allowing you to feel completely immersed in your surroundings. Our villa was simply perfect — beautiful, private, incredibly comfortable and seamlessly integrated into the landscape. Waking up every morning surrounded by the jungle felt almost surreal. Everything about the property is designed with such attention to detail while still respecting and celebrating the nature around it. But what truly made our stay exceptional were the people. A very special and heartfelt thank you goes to Widi, the manager, who went above and beyond to make our entire stay extraordinary. His warmth, kindness, attention to detail and genuine care made us feel incredibly welcome and looked after from beginning to end. He added so many thoughtful touches to our experience and made sure that everything was perfect. Widi is a huge part of the reason why our time at Buahan felt so personal and special, and we are genuinely grateful to him. We would also love to personally thank Riska and Sri, who were absolutely wonderful, as well as every single member of the restaurant and service team. Everyone was warm, attentive, kind and always seemed genuinely happy to make our experience better.

I haven't written a hotel review in over ten years, but this one moved me to action! We’ve been fortunate enough to stay in some incredible hotels around the world, but Buahan is in a league of its own. This isn’t just somewhere to stay, it’s an experience that reconnects you with nature, slows you down and reminds you what genuine hospitality feels like. The accommodation is unlike anything we’ve experienced before. The open-concept villas, with no doors or walls separating you from the outside world, sound daunting on paper but are nothing short of magical. Waking up to the sounds of the rainforest, watching the mist drift through the trees and feeling completely immersed in nature while enjoying every luxury imaginable is something we’ll never forget. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable, beautifully designed and somehow manage to feel both wild and incredibly peaceful at the same time. The swimming pool is breathtaking. Overlooking the iconic seven mountain peaks, it has to be one of the most spectacular settings we’ve ever swum in. Every moment spent there felt surreal. The food deserves special mention. Every breakfast was a joy, showcasing fresh local ingredients, while the evening tasting menus were outstanding. Each meal told a story of Balinese culture and produce and dining became one of the highlights of every day. Thank you to Monica who catered to our every need and even prepared recipes for us to take home! What truly sets Buahan apart is its people, who are mostly local from the village and all Balinese. The service is thoughtful, intuitive and deeply personal. Nothing is ever too much trouble Everything is delivered with such warmth and authenticity that it never feels formal. Having a dedicated host (thank you Arda!) who effortlessly arranged our activities, transfers and excursions meant we never had to worry about a thing. Everything was seamless. We also loved the daily complimentary activities, which added so much to our stay. Candle making, cocktail making, guided waterfall treks and bike rides through the surrounding countryside gave us a real connection to the local culture and environment. Buahan is so much more than a luxury resort. It’s a place built on respect for nature, Balinese culture and genuine human connection. By the time we left, it felt less like checking out of a hotel and more like saying goodbye to friends. We genuinely didn’t want to leave. It’s rare for a place to have such a lasting impact, but weeks later we’re still talking about Buahan almost every day. We’ll be back.
We have never stayed anywhere as magical as Banyan Tree Escape. Every single detail of this resort is thoughtfully designed and perfectly maintained. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the care, passion, and attention that make this place truly exceptional. The villas are simply breathtaking, completely surrounded by thousands of hectares of lush tropical rainforest, offering total privacy and an unforgettable connection with nature. What makes this place even more special is the incredible staff. Every single person went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, taking care of every little detail and making sure every need was met with genuine kindness and warmth. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the food. The chef deserves special recognition—we had the best hotel breakfast we have ever experienced. Every dish was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and prepared with outstanding attention to detail. It was an unforgettable culinary experience. We also joined the yoga and Pilates sessions in the beautiful wellness area, and they were fantastic. The resort offers complimentary daily activities, making every day unique and memorable. Visiting the private waterfall was another unforgettable experience and added even more magic to our stay. The atmosphere here is simply extraordinary. Peaceful, elegant, and truly magical, it’s the kind of place that stays in your heart long after you leave. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special. We sincerely hope to come back one day.
I have been fortunate enough to stay in many beautiful places around the world, but Buahan is one of the very few that I can honestly say changed me. I stayed for just over two weeks, which gave me the opportunity to experience the resort far more deeply than a typical visit. Over that time, I came to understand that what makes Buahan extraordinary is not simply its breathtaking setting; it is its people. The scenery is spectacular. The jungle is alive from sunrise until long after dark with birds, insects, frogs, squirrels, geckos and countless other creatures. Waking up to those sounds and falling asleep to them each night became one of my favourite parts of every day. It is important to understand what Buahan is, and what it isn’t. This is genuine outdoor living. The bales are open to nature, so you will hear the jungle, see wildlife, experience the weather, and occasionally share your space with a curious creature or two. If that idea makes you uncomfortable, this may not be the right resort for you. If, however, that sounds magical, you are in for something very special. Over the course of my stay I came to feel less like a guest and more like someone who had been welcomed into a family. One of the things I appreciated most was how personalized everything became. Rather than simply following a schedule, the team took the time to learn what genuinely interested me and then found ways to make it happen. Whether it was wildlife, photography, Balinese culture, or simply a quiet afternoon listening to the sounds of the forest, I always felt genuinely heard. The smallest touches often meant the most: cold towels waiting after excursions, helping me when my phone unexpectedly refused to charge because of a moisture warning, preparing fresh aloe after I spent a little too much time in the sun, somehow finding me sandals that fit perfectly, remembering my favourite foods, always making sure I had plenty of water, walking me to activities, taking care of my laundry, and countless other thoughtful gestures. None of those things were expected, but together they created an experience that felt deeply personal. Every member of the team somehow struck the perfect balance between being attentive and giving me the space to simply enjoy the peace of the jungle. I never felt managed or rushed; instead, I felt genuinely cared for. A special thank you to Arda, Uya, DeGus, Hengki, Koming, Kitut (the dancer), Chef Made, Olive, Aris, Arsana, Risku, Sri, Budi, Yoga, Agoy, Ratni, Queen, Widi, Oji, Nuno and Eric. Each of you contributed in your own unique way to making this such an unforgettable experience. I know there are many more wonderful people working behind the scenes whose names I may never have learned, so please accept my sincere thanks as well. It truly takes the entire Buahan team to create something this special. I was fortunate enough to be there during the resort’s anniversary celebration, which was one of the highlights of my trip. Rather than feeling like an event staged for guests, it felt like being welcomed into a celebration that genuinely mattered to the people who work there. It was joyful, authentic and unforgettable. One of the things I appreciated most was that the team never tried to tell me how to enjoy Buahan. Instead, they paid attention to what genuinely made me happy and helped me experience more of it. The freedom to enjoy the resort in my own way, felt like the greatest luxury of all. If you’re considering staying here, my advice is simple: come with an open mind. Embrace the jungle, slow down, ask questions, learn about everything around you, and let the staff guide you. This is not a place to hide from nature; it is a place to become part of it. Buahan isn’t just somewhere you stay. It’s somewhere you experience. I arrived hoping for a lovely holiday. I left feeling as though I had found a place, and people, I will never forget. I cannot wait to return.
Nem hiszem, hogy túl lehet szárnyalni ezt a szállodát: bármiben is! A szürreális tökéletesség és olyan odafigyelés övezi, amit szavakkal nem lehet leírni.
Nem létezik ilyen!
Location, setting, facilities, staff, food...and more
When we arrived at Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, we already expected something special. The concept is unlike anywhere else, and after previous stays in Bali we thought we knew what Balinese hospitality felt like. Meeting Hengki, the manager, on arrival, we could immediately sense his love for this place, its people and the deep care he brings to it. What we did not expect was to leave changed. We return to Bali because we love the culture, the food and the nature, so marking our tenth wedding anniversary here was an easy choice. We split the trip, four days at Mandapa, where we had happily stayed before, followed by four days at Buahan with no real idea of what to expect. By the end we only wished we had spent the whole trip here. We are usually the sort of guests who avoid hotel breakfasts. We value privacy and quiet, and we would normally take our coffee alone. At Buahan, for the first time ever, we found ourselves coming down each morning (often still full from the night before) simply to sit and talk with the team. We had even packed books to read by the pool and never opened a single one, because there was always someone we would rather be talking to. That team is the heart of this place. What struck us first was how deeply everyone loves the property and how proud they are of it, a feeling that proves utterly contagious. Agoy, our host, set the tone from the start. He is tireless, always close by, checking in, never missing a hello, and his knowledge runs deep. He has a real gift for explaining Balinese culture and history by relating it to other traditions, so that everything clicked into place for us. He answered all of our questions, joked with us when we joked, he really understood us. We laughed so much with him, my face sometimes hurt. I always looked forward to seeing his beaming face every day! Oji, whose smile could lift the greyest, rainiest day, walked with us on the Sandikala Walk and the Soul Freedom Journey and answered every question we had about village life and religion with warmth and enthusiasm. Budi sat with us for hours, late into the night, sharing Balinese culture and offering us a window into his own life and the experiences that have shaped him. Those conversations meant more to us than he probably knows. At the Botanist Bar we were spoiled. Arsana, the mixologist, builds drinks around local flora with real artistry, and he taught us about each ingredient, its traditional medicinal use and the part it plays in balancing the glass in your hand. Ari, the bar supervisor, was also (of course) very talented, weaving childhood stories around the same local ingredients as he made fantastic cocktails and mocktails, we shared so many laughs with him but he also shared deeply personal stories about ingredients and what they meant to him and why, it was very moving. The food was its own journey. Chef Vera prepared our Jungle Affair dinner and walked us through refined Balinese cuisine dish by dish, visibly delighted to share these celebratory, traditional plates and the stories behind them. Chef Made led our jungle cooking class at lunch and poured out his knowledge of every ingredient, culinary and medicinal alike, lighting up each time he found something new to show us, and the meal we cooked was incredibly delicious (as is all the other food at this property). Olive arranged that lunch and our private dinner with extraordinary care. We happened to see her setting up hours before our private dinner, and when we finally arrived we were genuinely speechless at the effort and beauty she had put into it. Yes, Buahan has the views, the food and the ambience you would hope for (and more). But the real experience here is the people, and the feeling they create. We leaned into all of this so far that we even made friends with other guests. The depth of it only really hit us at checkout. When our host told us he was genuinely sad to see us go, I had to fight back tears. Then, as we were leaving, Hengki asked how everything had been, and I choked up again when answering him. By then we understood exactly what we had felt on that very first day: he cares as much about his team as he does about his guests, and it shows in everything around him. I have never met a hotel manager like this, nor have I felt that way leaving a hotel. A word on what this place is and isn't. The people here are not the stiff, faultlessly formal staff you find at most luxury hotels, where warmth can feel like part of the service. At so many of these places you sense, however politely, that you are a customer to be looked after and charged. Here you never feel that for a moment. Everyone is simply themselves, and the connection feels genuine rather than transactional, which is exactly what makes it so warm and so meaningful. If you are after ultra-polished, white-glove perfection, this may not be your place. If you are looking for something real, authentic and genuinely meaningful, this is exactly it. So please do yourself a favour and throw yourself into it completely. Take your photographs of the views, then put the camera down, look around and talk to the people, who could not be more eager to share. We have stayed in many hotels around the world, often Rosewood, Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton, and we have never experienced anything like this. We came expecting views and left feeling more connected to other people, more connected to nature, more grateful, and quite simply changed. We are already thinking about our return, and we cannot wait to try more of the Banyan Tree Escapes in the future. It is the perfect way to immerse yourself in a local culture, even without knowing a single person from the area. Buahan is not simply a hotel or a place to stay. It is an experience, and it is meant to be felt.
The most sensational place we have ever stayed, its luxury meets adventure with every single detail taken care of. We will be back
Peaceful. Exceptional staff. The experience of a room without wall is a unique and amazing.
The entire resort is a unique experience. Our villa (type Buahan Valley Pool Bale) was very spacious and beautiful, with lots of privacy and a spectacular view. The gardens are perfectly well-kept, the pool is beautiful and the lush surroundings are just stunning. The view from the restaurant/bar is breathtakingly beautiful and relaxing. The food and service is exceptional and the entire staff is very friendly, helpful, reliable and always in a good mood.

Serenity and good service
The exhausting steps
The most beautiful hotel we've ever stayed in, gorgeous views from everywhere. The service in this hotel is also incredible, sadly I did not catch everyone's names, but De Gus and Budi were our hosts and were both friendly, welcoming, and helpful - as well as this the staff in the restaurant were superb and lovely. The staff went above and beyond when my wife was feeling ill too, providing her with medicine, tea, etc to help her feel better. The food here was delicious, we tried lots of Indonesian dishes that we would not have usually come across and loved them all - some of the best hotel food we've ever had. Everything was incredibly well organised, including airport/hotel transfers, excursions, spa treatments, etc - once again kudos to the perfect staff in all functions. Also worth mentioning the little touches that make the stay so special, the sun cream/water/snacks that were given to you when you used the pool, an evening dance show with local dancers including complimentary cocktail and appetisers, the friendliness of each and every staff member, and many other things!
Nothing was wrong!
We came for our honeymoon and this was easily the best place we have ever stayed at. The staffs attentiveness to our unique experience is unlike anything we have experienced before. Everyone greeted us with their warmest hospitality and our hosts and servers knew our itinerary and catered each day to compliment our activities (i.e. providing a hospitality room when we arrived early, accommodating early or late breakfasts for our activities and suggesting spa time on our busy hike days). We absolutely loved the breathtaking views, the open air room, and the amenities. Everything here is perfect, completely immersed in nature and culture (especially the experiences they have). We cannot recommend Buahan enough and we hope to come back to experience it again. Absolutely amazing. We want to personally thank Wayan our driver, Ita, Riska, Budi, the head chef, and especially Adi, our host, for such a curated personal experience.
Staying at the Buahan Tree Escape was truly a magical experience. Simplicity with attention to every detail defines this luxury resort unlike any other. We stayed seven nights and experienced it all. Every facet of our stay from the no walls, no doors concept to the incredible staff was an experience we will never forget. The rhythm of the days, the sounds of the valley and waterfall and the chirping crickets and singing birds set the tone. Nothing was better than napping or enjoying a massage to the fall of the rain. Everyone here was so kind, so sincere and so dedicated to the Buahan resort and community. Kudos to Ketut and Puspa, the managers. Our greatest appreciation goes to Ogee, who organized most of our any activities with the resort. He was excellent as his job and a delightful person. Writing this review has been on my to-do list for six months because it was important to me that I give it the love that we felt during our stay. Dining: First up is the open kitchen team led by Chef Made, an incredible artist. Every meal was 4 to 5 courses carefully crafted by his team. Although it was primarily plant based with local ingredients and we are not vegetarians, breakfast, lunch, and dinner were healthy, tasty and filling. We loved them. Favorite dishes were Mushroom Egg Chawanmushi, Roasted Jicama, and Poached Pineapple. We took the cooking class and learned how to make sambals, enjoyed the Taste of Guling experience with its slow-roasted duck, and were honored when Chef Made and his team prepared a special dinner for our last night. “Paon,” a Balinese cookbook is now in our kitchen. Servers Wira, Ari, Dian and especially Monika treated us like family and made every day brighter. Every evening, we tried to join in the activities at the Botanist Bar, with Adi for stories, lessons, and sundown cocktails. We loved him as well. Activities: There are so many activities, you can be as busy as you desire. We explored an organic rice farm, took a walk with fellow guests into town, and cycled the 20km “Ride for Resilient” through jungles, villages and temples. I highly recommend the Balinese healing “Soul Freedom Journey.” It was an experience I will never forget and the perfect way to let go after a long year and celebrate the end of cancer treatment. Yoga: After our first private session with Munati, we were hooked. She is a gem. We added 2-3 more private yoga sessions culminating with Restorative Fire Moon session where you throw your worries and demons into the fire and set your intentions for your future. Each morning at the Pavilion, yoga classes are also held. Spa: I can still feel the peace and smell the tea that started every treatment. The Toja Spa is world class. The therapists were excellent. There was light rain most afternoons during our stay which made it the perfect time for treatment. Tree Houses and Grounds: When I booked a treehouse for our vacation, my husband thought I was crazy. Upon arriving, he was pleasantly surprised. Our Bale included a private swimming pool, fire pit and living area. The first-class bedding was protected by netting and even had an air conditioner. The set up is flawless. Beautiful views greet you at every turn. Our room was about a seven-minute walk to the Open kitchen, the scenery was breathtaking and the path could be steep. Bring your walking shoes. This is not a resort for those with physical limitations. Thank you for reading my review. This is a resort experience unlike any other. I cannot wait to return!
The staff are very knowledgeable about the local culture and truly passionate about their work. Everyone was extremely attentive throughout our stay. Widi took great care of us and gave us many excellent suggestions. The “no wall, no door” concept is truly impressive and allows you to fully immerse yourself in nature. Every meal felt like a work of art rather than just food. Most dishes were plant-based, healthy, and beautifully presented. Yogi was also very kind. He hosted the Balinese script art session and took us on an amazing waterfall trekking experience. Riska and the two lovely waitresses were always attentive and smiling, which made our days even brighter. I would highly recommend the In Bale Warm Remedy, which helped a lot with my cold during the stay, as I had caught a cold from diving before arriving in Buahan. Yanti was wonderful in organizing my In Bale bath experience, as well as a unique massage session overlooking the rice fields. I couldn’t have asked for more. Dewa and Anooo did a fantastic job keeping our villa clean and constantly refilling extra water bottles for us, especially since I needed to drink plenty of water while recovering from my cold. We also joined a mocktail-making class organized by Ari, which was very interesting and enjoyable. It’s hard to remember everyone’s names, but every single person was so kind and made our stay truly memorable. Their warmth and hospitality made the experience extra special.
Everything was AMAZING! Really loved the experience. It was the last place of our honey moon trip and it was the best hotel/place. The Buahan team was very very friendly and attentive, so grateful of the quality service. Our room in the jungle was unique, no words, all the people, the sound of the nature, the view and everything such an amazing/unique experience. Also the food was so delicious! We were impressed, the natural flavor and taste was so good. Thank you for all!!
Without doubt….. the most incredible place I have ever stayed. 2 reasons.. firstly, ridiculously stunning location with the most beautiful villas. 3 nights was only just enough! Secondly, but far more importantly, the people. The most wonderful people right across the board. The experiences we had were unforgettable. DON’T hesitate, JUST DO IT. You wont regret it.
As soon as you arrive, you feel a weight lift off your shoulders. The view, the design of the villas, and the staff all come together to create a true home-away-from-home feeling. The food was also a culinary masterpiece, perfect for those who enjoy a detox or more plant-based options. Our host Arda was exceptional; we’ll truly miss our chats and his warmth. A special shoutout to Olive and Yogi too, both made each day feel that bit more special. If you’re seeking luxury while being immersed in the beauty of Ubud’s rainforest, with a team who genuinely love what they do and make you feel at home, this intimate resort is a must.
Buahan - BTE was our bucket list stay and it far exceeded expectations. The bales, the food, spa and free activities were all amazing. If you’re hesitant about having no walls – don’t be. The cooling mechanisms work perfectly and even the heaviest rain didn’t require winding down the outer blinds. Yes you might see some critters but the nighttime netting is more than adequate against mosquitos: embrace the natural white noise of the birds, insects, luak and the rushing waterfall. If you’re lucky like us you’ll see fireflies too. Staff were relaxed and helpful and, mostly local, they were genuinely proud of the hotel. They really make your stay a personal, home away from home experience. Could not fault.
Buahan je naprosto výjimečný zážitek, který jde úplně mimo klasické vnímání luxusního hotelu. Otevřené vily bez zdí vás vtáhnou přímo do džungle a výhledy patří k tomu nejlepšímu, co jsme kdy zažili.
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our babymoon and this was an unforgettable stay! Firstly, the hotel’s unique no-walls concept is executed beautifully and makes for the ultimate romantic jungle retreat. Our Buahan Valley Pool Bale had a stunning view of the forest and the mountains, and the plunge pool was heated (which we were told is only a feature in this room category and above). The bales themselves are all identical on the inside, simple but huge, artistically made, with luxurious amenities and effective air conditioning above the beds to make sleep comfortable. Although our trip was in the March rainy season, we didn’t face mosquito issues inside the bale and outside was quite manageable with some bug spray. Overall the resort is spread across a steep hill and requires a good deal of walking / climbing stairs - especially to lower category rooms so its not too practical for guests with mobility issues. But for pregnant guests or guests who can’t climb a lot, the Buahan Valley Pool Bales and Seven Peaks Bales are quite accessible and close to the main hotel facilities. The staff was really kind and attentive throughout the stay! Service was above par. The mixologists on the property are exceptional - both mocktails and cocktails were uniquely Bali, and fantastic, throughout our stay. On the food front, breakfast was very nice. Lunch was is à la carte with sufficient options (including for vegetarians). The quality of chefs is good but not exceptional. Dinner every night is a curated set menu which is included in the stay - and menu leaned mostly local South East Asian. This was a hit or miss both from a variety standpoint and quality of preparation. While the set menu approach is nice in theory, this can be a better experience if guests are given 2-3 options to choose from - maybe one South East Asian and one more familiar western option - especially for the mains. Overall wonderful stay!
It was our first trip to Bali and finally it became the best experience that we had at a hotel ever. In the middle of the impressive nature with breathtaking view and sound of jungle we could really retreat and enjoy a few days that we will keep in our mind. A service that left nothing to be desired. For example when we asked for a possibility of a short hiking tour to other side of the valley we got is with a special kindness that impressed us a lot. The food created in the open kitchen was amazing and completed this outstanding experience. Especially in morning, when we enjoyed our breakfast with the view to the mountains and the haze of the jungle passing the valley. The room, better to say our villa, was fantastic and definitely unique. No walls, doors, windows just some curtains at night as mosquito protection. Definitely a place that we felt in love with an still having just one word to describe: "WOW"
The location, the kindness of the staff, the unique setup of the property, the cocktails, the food was next level gourmet masterpieces, I can’t say enough good things
Everything was amazing
The 3 night experience in this property was nothing short of stunning and highly memorable. Only 16 villas hidden from each other in the hillside, a narrow stone winding path, open “villas” with no walls in the “jungle” overlooking the lush green hillside. Impossible to describe the experience of sitting in sheltered comfort with open walls while its raining outside or falling asleep listening to the insects in the forest around you or waking up at daylight to birds. Almost feels like glamping in the hillside forest in open wall wooden huts instead of tents. We went in the rainy season so I was a little worried since we had heavy downpours almost every day, but had no rain some into the open villa/room at all. Impeccable service. Great spa experience (try a 30 minute foot massage in your room). Multi-course dinner every night. I think it’s best to come here at the end of your trip in Bali after you have done all the sightseeing so that you can just relax and soak in the experience instead of driving around to complete your tourist checklist. Highly recommended for anyone looking for some quiet “away” time in nature (I believe no children are allowed). We stayed in Villa 3
Peaceful, luxurious and Stunning. This hotel offers everything you need to just switch off. The views are incredible. We had an amazing villa with a heated swimming pool. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable. The entire staff looked after us and remembered our names and choices with each interaction. We felt special. Thank you.
Brilliant stay. Have visited Ubud multiple times but never this hilly area where the Banyan tree is located. Beautiful entrance , wonderful reception by Bintan. The beautiful large villa with a heated pool was one of the finest i have ever stayed in. The valley bale is worth the upgrade. We did not draw the curtains at night and had the most glorious morning. The villa ameneties were pretty amazing too. The two butlers arda and buddi were amazing at their job. Super informative and polite. Olive who served us dinner was super pleasant too. The only downer was the incessant rain which did not let our bonfire light. Thank you ni putu dian purnama sari for seeing us off. Intend to come back for a longer stint.
Páčilo sa nám úplne všetko. Musím povedať, že to bolo nad naše očakávania. Úžasné prostredie, ubytovanie, ľudia, jedlo, masáže. Mali sme aj dosť daždivé počasie, no napriek tomu sme si tento pobyt veľmi užili. Boli sme dokonca na na nočnej turistike na Mount Batur. Skvelý koncept hotela. Pre nás to bol jedinečný zážitok. Ak si chcete skutočne oddýchnuť telom i mysľou a načerpať nové sily, toto je to pravé miesto.
The resort itself is overwhelmingly beautiful, as well as the surrounding environment. All staff is extraordinarily friendly and caring, and the food is fantastic and at the same time healthy and sustainably produced. The resort exceeded my expectations in every respect - our stay was an incredibly positive experience.
nothing
Absolute impressive
We recently had the pleasure of staying at Buahan, tucked away in the lush hills of Bali, and it was nothing short of magical. The resort itself is stunning—private bales set within the jungle. My villa was spacious, beautifully designed, and came with a private plunge pool that overlooked the hills. Waking up to birdsong and mist rolling over the greenery each morning was unforgettable. Dining at the resort was a highlight. The restaurant served fresh, locally inspired dishes with an emphasis on organic ingredients, and every meal felt like a celebration of Balinese flavors. Breakfast on the terrace, with the morning sun filtering through the trees, was a particularly memorable experience. We took two excursions: Lava Trails and Spiritual exploration of Bali. Both were well organized and enjoyable. Recommended very highly!
Buahan is, without exaggeration, the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in — and in so many ways it completely redefines what a hotel can be. There are no walls, no doors, and no barriers between you and nature, yet you somehow feel more comfortable, safe, and deeply cared for than anywhere else. The location is a bit remote, but it is absolutely worth the journey. Once you arrive, the setting feels untouched and sacred, surrounded by jungle and mountains that are genuinely breathtaking. From check-in — where you’re invited to ring a wooden bell (I don’t know the Balinese name, but the ritual alone sets the tone) — everything feels intentional and special. The service is exceptional on every level: warm, intuitive, and incredibly attentive. The rooms (or bales) were always impeccably clean. Every time we left for breakfast or dinner, housekeeping would quietly refresh the space, so we returned each time to a perfectly tidy, serene room — a detail that made a huge difference. The food and cocktails are out of this world. Every day we enjoyed set menus for both breakfast and dinner, and they never disappointed. I loved their philosophy of 70% fruits and vegetables and 30% animal protein — nourishing, creative, and beautifully balanced. Dietary preferences and restrictions are handled effortlessly and with care. Our host, Adi, was phenomenal — incredibly accommodating, friendly, attentive… and yes, very handsome (cheeky but true). He genuinely elevated our stay and made everything feel effortless. We also had a spa day with a couples massage, and the two therapists were fantastic. They made us feel comfortable, safe, and completely relaxed — the kind of massage where time simply disappears. Staying in the bale was magical. We had a few jungle visitors — ground birds and a gecko — which only made the experience more immersive. The bale’s infinity pool was stunning, and even though the water was cold, we used it every single day. It’s worth noting that the noise levels can be a bit loud at times — but it’s not human noise, it’s nature in its purest form. Birds, insects, the jungle breathing around you. If anything, it reinforces how unique and alive this place truly is. Buahan isn’t just a hotel — it’s an experience, a philosophy, and a memory that stays with you long after you leave. Truly unforgettable.

Wow! We absolutely loved Banyan Tree Buahan. We stayed at the Banyan Tree Phuket and loved it so we wanted to try another one of their properties. Banyan Tree Phuket was nice but this was next level. The open air room was stunning . Loved the private pool and tub overlooking the jungle. The bed was super comfortable and it was so peaceful and relaxing to look out onto the jungle from all vantage points. The food was five star. The plant based meals full of local produce were absolutely delicious. Breakfast was amazing but the multiple course dinners felt Michelin starred. We didn't know dinner was included so what a pleasant surprise. The food was outstanding. The craft cocktails with local produce were excellent. The botanist bar was incredible. Arsuan and the bar supervisor (didn't catch his name) were both so talented and gracious. Some of the best fresh cocktails Ive ever had. Yoga in the pavilion overlooking the jungle with Bintang was great. The customer service here was absolutely amazing and impeccable. EVERYONE was so incredibly kind, gracious, accommodating, polite, friendly and helpful. Even the staff working on grounds maintenance greeted you warmly. Special shout out to our concierge, Deegus, who was exceptional. So kind, welcoming, helpful and accommodating. This property far exceeded our expectations. Top notch from top to bottom. HIGHLY recommend!
We were there for birthday trip. Resort is in the middle of the nature, surround by lot of trees. It is on the mountain and it was quite cool at night time. We were greeted and escorted to the room by our love and attentive hosts Budi and Wadi. They were checking on us during the stay and assisted every time we need them. Room comes with no door no wall concept which is very unique style. You don’t need AC as the temperature is cool. There are full option of amenities and they got everything you may need. Resort got top notch security where you don’t need the key for your room. The room was clean every time when we came back to our room from outside. Spa was excellent, I did hot stone massage which was very relaxing and I just fell asleep. My partner did island massage which he loved it too. Special mentioned to our therapists. We did candle making with Yuta who was very gentle and lovely. We learned what resort and local try to do for the sustainability and we shared the experience. The food is completely healthy, there is only one restaurant in the resort. For the breakfast and dinner each day different. We are not a fan of the food there but we had lovely room service a la cart menu. If you are there you can ask them to help you with the scooter rental which came with new scooter and in a good condition. One last thing is don’t forget to check it out the waterfall in the resort, it was nice trekking to get there and it was very quiet. Our host even brought us shoes and a bag of what you may need like mosquito spray, towels and first aid kit. Thank you to Banyan Tree Buahan team for making our stay so memorable and we had such a wonderful stay 🫶🏻
The place is really amazing, beautiful as the pictures and peaceful as we expected. The room is very clear and the staff is amazing as well. What we dont expected is that our stay would be also a gastronomic experience, the food is really something. Every day a different menu, with stunning combinations of food and drinks. We dont remember very well the name of all employess that care of us, but our special thanks to Mr. Arsana, Ms. Olive and the internal, Ms Tini!
I really cannot find anything to complain.
Nestled in the jungles and rice fields of Bali, north of Ubud, is the very beautiful Banyan Tree Escape. My husband and I stayed in the over the waterfall balé and we loved hearing the sound of the waterfall in our open air room. We loved the private pool, the gorgeous 2-person tub, and being part of nature among the trees. The service was excellent, with Widi. Budi, and Oji standing out as above and beyond for their attention to us throughout our stay. There are many wellness offerings to take advantage of, and we enjoyed hiking down to the waterfall and being immersed in our beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed a campfire our first night and it was lovely. For us the only negative was the set menu dinner, we preferred eating from the round a clock menu for dinner as we were interested in a more casual, private dinner experience at the balé. We spent four nights here and throroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Our stay at Banyan Tree Hotel in Bali was truly magical. From the moment we arrived, we felt surrounded by serenity and warmth. The design of the resort is breathtaking — a perfect blend of nature and luxury. The No Walls No Doors concept was one of the most unique experiences we’ve ever had, and it was actually the main reason we chose to stay here. It gave us a sense of openness, freedom, and connection with nature that made our time unforgettable. The service was exceptional — every staff member treated us like family, always smiling and making sure every detail was perfect. Their kindness made our stay feel personal and special. A highlight of our trip was the private waterfall. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot that feels like a hidden paradise. We truly appreciated this experience and highly recommend it.
For improvement, we’d suggest adding a small amenity box near the waterfall area — with towels or mats to sit on after crossing the river. It would make the experience even more comfortable. Also, it would be great if the villa pool lights could be turned off at night or have a switch control, as they stayed on all night and slightly affected our sleep. Overall, Banyan Tree Hotel in Bali exceeded our expectations. It’s an experience filled with beauty, calmness, and romance — one that stays in your heart long after you leave.
I stayed here with a friend and absolutely loved it! We did a hike to the waterfall and morning yoga- both activities were truly unforgettable! The food is amazing , and the whole hospitality was truly superb. I will come back.
Everything, the rooms are fantastics, the staff is nice and helpful, the cuisine is excellent and local
Not an actual issue in itself, but the place beeing remote plan carefully how to go back where you want to go next
Our stay at Banyan Tree was absolutely wonderful, made truly special by our amazing host, Adi. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel welcome and took care of every little detail with such thoughtfulness. When I couldn’t make it to the mocktail botanist activity, Adi arranged an ad-hoc session just for me. When we had a 2 a.m. hike and needed an early dinner, he made it happen seamlessly. He even helped store my breastmilk safely in the main freezer, personally ensuring it was properly wrapped and separated. Adi’s care went beyond expectations. After we checked out and finished our spa session, he realised the spa showers were occupied and immediately arranged for us to return to our villa instead—just so we could freshen up comfortably before our flight. That level of initiative and thoughtfulness truly stood out. He even stayed back after hours to celebrate my husband’s birthday surprise. It’s rare to meet someone so dedicated and genuine. We’re deeply grateful to Adi for making our stay so memorable and can’t wait to return to Banyan Tree—hopefully with him as our host again! 🌺
Our stay at Banyan Tree Bali was simply unforgettable. The resort combines breathtaking views, lush tropical nature, and absolute serenity. The room was immaculate, beautifully designed, and perfectly private — the infinity pool overlooking the jungle felt like paradise. The staff made the experience truly special: kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. Every detail, from the breakfast to the acricities, reflected exceptional quality and thoughtfulness. A perfect balance between luxury, peace, and authenticity — highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the best of Bali and honeymoon we really enjoyed .
Das ist mit großer Sicherheit eines der absoluten Highlights auf dem weltweiten Hotelmarkt ! Zimmer Service Personal essen absolute Weltklasse - forget Four Seasons
So gar nix !! Würde einziehen
Buahan Bantan Tree Escape is an experience unlike any other holiday. Their special concept immersed us into the most peaceful and spiritual time and we felt connected to nature in the most beautiful jungle setting. The villas with no windows or walls are unique and stunning with everything that you could need but all well thought out using only natural materials, the copper bath was an incredible feature. If you can book bale 12 you will not be disappointed with the view of the 7 peaks from your bed when you wake. It also benefits from a heated pool and we enjoyed 34 degrees dips at night! Our room host Budi was super attentive and helped with all arrangements and requests including a day with the local taxi driver that collected us from the airport Sukha and he took us to many places around Ubud which was a great day. We had 3 spa massages, a body scrub and the flower bath and all were amazing with the perfect setting and view of rice fields. We also booked the romantic package which included a visit to a local farm and foraging for a cooking class afterwards with dChef Madi who became a great friend for our stay. He cooked for our special Jungle affair meal which was delicious and the most beautiful setting in the pavilion which was decorated with candles and flowers, definitely recommend for a romantic night! Madi also made us special meal requests such as a local curry and he is a great chef. The plant based set menu is a great experience too. The thing that stood out most during our trip was the kindness of all the team who were so happy and attentive. We felt genuinely sad to leave and everyone came to say goodbye, we cannot wait to return. We got engaged at our next hotel in Nusa Dua and Buahan’s lovely manager Puspa surprised us by sending a card photo and champagne gifts which we are truly touched and grateful of. Thank you for making our trip to Bali unforgettable. 🙏🏼🫶🏻❤️
We visited here for 2 night (total 3days) and it was the best stay among 7days bali trip. The location is yes, quite far from Ubud (it took approx. 1hr from the Ubud centre) but totally worth it. We recommend to check the activities before visiting Buahan because we recommend to try as much activity provided from Buahan. We tried to participate daily activities provided, and we enjoyed all of them. To list a few: 1. Waterfall trekking: We went with a guide Yogi. The path was quite rough and we needed to trespass the river at the end, but totally worth it. Yogi shared stories about the cultural heritage and traditions, the meaning of waterfall, how to make and offering and etc while we are walking down to the waterfall. He also provided water and towel so no worries for the guest. Personally, walking down was harder than coming up (the stairs are slippery) so be cautious for those who are planning to try. 2. Boreh scrub: Two of the spa therapists helped us making are own scrub. They showed us the ingredients and let us know the name of each. Therapists informed us the ratio of each ingredients for best scrub paste. They provide enough amount for two of us and taught us how to use it by demonstrating at the class. We used the day we made as informed, and surprised how the skin got so smooth and felt refreshed. I am so willing to try to make again back home. 3. Botanist story: Arsana guide us how to make our own mocktail and how to balance the flavor. For the day we join, we were able to make a mocktail based on aromatic ginger(with two other leaves). It was amazing to learn how each ingredients can bring up the flavor (chili syrup for spicy and etc). Learning how to integrate the flavors in the best balance was so worth it. Later on, Arsana made our seasonal drink based on our preference, for example, sweet and spicy, it was amazingly surprising and so tasty that I had to order cocktail every evening. 4 YO Arak in clay pot was also amazing. 4. Farm tour: Yoga guided us to the Buahan farm. We were interested in the phrase of '70% of the ingredients are grown and harvested from the Buahan farm' so we were so glad we were able to visit the farm. Yoga and the farm keeper let us know each plant, how it smell, and how the plant grows. We also learned some interesting stories for some plants. (avoid pumpkin for black magic..!) Not only from the farm, we were able learn plants on the pathway so we were able to notify which was which as we walk by or see as we relax in our room. We even borrowed the book "paon" to look more into the balinese dishes. adding up with the farm, the food from Buahan was amazing. All of the dishes that we had had fresh flavor. We almost order every dish menu provided in the morning and did not leave any leftover. so delicious. We also love and respect supporting the local farmers. All of the activities were such a wonderful and valuable time that I wish other Buahan visitors also try. The 'No walls No door' bale was also comfortable. less bugs than expected and really cozy to stay. we loved the couch, bed, copper bath tub, shower and everything. We just hope the entrance to be closed still. the entrance opens up so easily we were quite concerned about our privacy while we were using the pool. (the pool is right in front of the entrance) The view of the Buahan was so interesting that it changed every moment based on the change of the weather. We had both sun and rain during the stay and experiencing both weather was so valuable. It was such a pleasure to visit this place. We love the experience of being a part of a nature and respect the local. Thank you for all staff for supporting our cozy stay.
Every thing
Nothing
Wow just wow! I cannot explain how incredible this experience is, I am an Independent Travel Agent and so I have been to some stunning locations all over the world but this, this exceeds every travel experience I’ve ever had, I took my daughter here to celebrate her 18th birthday and it was truly life changing, I need to say a special thank you to Riadi and Ogee who went above and beyond to ensure we had the most beautiful time. Thank you 🧡 Truly grateful to have experienced this, thank you, we’ll be back and I’ll certainly be sending clients here in the future. Many, many thanks. Katie & Isabella Strickland
If you want to experience the true escape from the city and traditional tourism scenes, the banyan tree is your choice. Located in Buahan, this resort is an open-air sanctuary with no walls or doors, which allows you to be surrounded by wilderness nature. I stayed here for two nights which I wish I would have stayed longer to reconnect with nature, and enjoy a unique, radical retreat. The resort has only 16 villas, each one of them offered big space and comfortable bed. The package also included breakfast and dinner, of which the ingredients are coming from the botanic garden. From raw material to table only takes few minutes, the menu changes every day, and the chef is trying all the way to make sure the guests enjoy freshened and delicacy. A big thank you to our butler and the team to take care of us during our stay. We will definitely come back.
One of the most amazing experiences we have had at any hotel in the world. The room was spectacular and such a unique way to stay. We were worried about the lack of doors or windows, but it was not an issue at all and our bed was very cool every night. The food was excellent and service was perfect. Everyone at the property was super friendly and willing to help. I wish we could wake up to the view of the jungle every single morning - it is something we will never forget.
Excellent service and atmosphere Truly unique and amazing experience. Breathtaking views in the middle of the jungle (located about 1 hr from Ubud) The hotel has a clear vision around ethics and culture which runs through all aspects of the hotel including the menu which is 70% plant based and locally sourced. Particularly enjoyed the walk to the private waterfall and the dining experience over the 2 nights we were there. We got really good service from Diva and Tinie, always smiling, welcoming and went the extra mile. Also shout out to the manager Raka who listened and genuinely welcomed feedback.
The only issue is on the last night they run out of Tequila, which is not acceptable considering the remote location and that this hotel is luxury 5 star. The manager came to say sorry and acknowledged this was not good enough. (My wife only drinks tequila). The manager Raka was great, very empathetic and listened to what we had to say. I think 2-3 nights would be sufficient to stay here should you wish to completely relax.
During the last 21 years I have spent an average of 150-200 nights yearly in different hotels all around the World: beach places, business, jungles, safaris, remote places...but nothing like Buahan A Banyan Tree Escape. I would describe it like a place with real SOUL...far away from clichés such "feeling at home far away from home" and others, this place is different to the rest. The hospitality concept of Its Team is just amazing and the chance of listening the silence the whole day is priceless. Hopefully we will be back in the next future, many thanks on behalf of my wife and myself.
Our stay at Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, was exceptional and transformative. The team's attention to weaving cultural traditions into a luxury experience is outstanding. Every detail of our experience felt intentional, from the ceremonial welcome, to the farm to table menu that changes daily, to the design of the fabric of the robes in the room. Every gesture of service radiated care, thoughtfulness, and an unparalleled sense of serenity. The blending of open design with the lush natural surroundings created a feeling that we were not “staying” somewhere, but rather becoming part of a living, breathing sanctuary. Every corner of the resort seems designed with intention, fostering both peace and wonder. We are especially grateful to the Mr. Made, the chef, whose artistry turned every meal into an exploration of flavor and place. Each dish felt rooted in the land yet elevated to something unforgettable. To the massage therapist team, Kadek and Tirta, thank you for treatments that were both restorative and deeply grounding. The yoga instructor provided calm guidance that helped us reconnect with our bodies and surroundings, while the botanist bar staff, Ari, crafted drinks that were inventive and nourishing. The waitstaff of Sri and Riska deserve special mention for their warmth, attentiveness, and the way they anticipated needs before we even voiced them. To Riadi, our Escape Host, we extend our deepest thanks for orchestrating every aspect of our stay with such grace, responsiveness, and genuine care. The level of attention to detail and responsiveness at Buahan is remarkable. It truly feels as if the entire team is devoted to creating an experience that is luxurious and meaningful. The Buahan is an immersion into nature, wellness, authentic Balinese culture and hospitality at its highest expression. We leave with full hearts, grateful memories, and an eagerness to return to this extraordinary sanctuary.
The best place I have stayed so far in Bali! The service was outstanding and everyone was very welcoming and helpful, especially Budi who took great care of everything and explained all the ins and outs of the location and surroundings. The mixologist was outstanding, highly recommend to try the seasonal cocktails. The meals tasted amazing and the ingredients are locally sourced which makes it even more special. Thank you to everyone again.
Amazing place and amazing services. The view is like a fairytale, the staff is more than happy to help and the food is amaizing. Wonderful to wake up in such a view, hearing the birds sing and play on the edge of the pool. Can't wait to come back!
This is a fantastic experience. From the minute you arrive, every member of staff goes out there way to make your stay special. The bale was perfect and very comfortable. The attention to detail was amazing. Pool area was lovely and iced water and cool towels were a lovely touch. Food is up there with Michelin star restaurants. Overall a perfect stay.
Buahan is pure magic. From the moment we arrived, the incredible team made us feel at home. Arsana, Sri, Ogi, Suyasa, Rudi, Legi, Titi, Budi, and Dharma each brought their own warmth, care, and attention that made our stay unforgettable. The property is breathtaking—immersed in nature, open to the jungle, with amazing food, a restorative spa, and an atmosphere of complete peace. Buahan is more than a resort, it is an experience we will treasure and return to.
Zero mosquito in the living and sleeping area. Nice 5 course dinner and the accessibility of water fall from my room was the highlight.
Location is bit far from airport so taxi service are hard and bit expensive
Beautiful hotel with truly exceptional service from start to finish. Some dinner courses were a bit lacking in flavor, while the main dish never disappointed. A small downside was the pool, which is not heated in all the villas.
It’s been a month since we came back from Buahan and the memories are still so fresh in our minds! Widi, our excellent host during our stay- was friendly, professional and brilliant at anticipating our needs and made thoughtful suggestions to make our time at Buahan more enjoyable. Thank you Widi! We had the pleasure to meet Puspa who is the Resort Manager, our conversation revealed how she’s been involved with the project from the very beginning and her love for the “resort” is apparent in the big and small details that make Buahan so special. Now onto the resort- our Bale, not “villa” was probably the most beautiful space we’ve ever stayed at. We knew about the “no doors or walls” concept but weren’t prepared for how breathtaking it would be to be in a vast but secluded space of your own, immersed in the Balinese forest with views of more forest, rice terraces and the 7 (+2) peaks. Our hike to an untouched waterfall and stream via a private path down a hill was the perfect touch of adventure to break up the extreme tranquility :) Forever grateful for the memories and we can’t wait to be back.
Beautiful property with incredible rooms and incredible staff. Nothing was too much effort. Pool was beautiful. Will 100% be back
Staying at Buahan, Banyan Tree Escape was truly one of the most memorable and soul-nourishing experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in care, kindness, and serenity. Nestled deep in the jungle, this retreat offers a rare connection to nature that leaves a lasting impression. Every detail—from the open-air villas to the immersive sounds of the forest—was thoughtfully curated to create a sense of peace and presence. What made it even more extraordinary was the incredible staff. Arsana, Ogi, Rudi, Sri, Tirta, Dharma, and Ari treated us with such heartfelt hospitality, it felt like we were being welcomed into their home. It was genuinely hard to say goodbye—not just to the beauty of Buahan, but to the people who made it feel so special. Thank you to the entire team for your warmth and the care you poured into every moment of our stay. We can’t wait to return!
Incredible immersion in nature. Bale accommodation links you directly into the jungle. Most helpful, friendly & authentic staff. And incredible food with basis local ingredients & plant based.
Truly the best and most exquisite hotel I've stayed at in my life! My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon and my birthday here and had the time of our lives. The atmosphere and service were outstanding with heaps of activities available upon request. Special shout out to Riadi, our Escape Host, who made this an experience we will cherish for the the rest of our lives! Highly recommend
Banyan Tree is a great chain famous for its excellent service and guest comfort, but their Escape concept is truly one of a kind! Everything was SO amazing and exceptionally thought of that I find it difficult to pick the things I liked most. The villa we stayed at had a great view to the rainforest and a great infinity pool. Villa's design was awe-inspiring, from "no-walls" concept to choice of wood and texture finishings. The ylang-ylang bath prepared right in the room was not only beautiful and relaxing but worth a lot of likes on Instagram))) Special thanks to Widi, our Host! And big cheers to the great and aspiring chef who arranged our Jungle Affair Dinner (Amarisa if I am not mistaken), it was a memorable experience and a perfect treat for a special occasion!
The menu was delicious and exquisite but definitely made to please locavores, healthy food fans, weight watchers and certified nutritionists. It was too delicate and not sufficient for a 50 year old man with traditional food habits, who would like to have a full English breakfast and hearty dinner while on vacations. The staff suggested to "add protein" to our dinner on the first night but still it was not enough. We managed later, and that was not a problem at all, it's rather worth mentioning as a tip for those who like meat and big portions and plan to visit. Just ask for more protein from the start!
A Soulful Escape at Buahan – A Banyan Tree Masterpiece Rooted in Nature and Meaning Three nights at Buahan weren’t just a holiday – they were a gentle awakening. A true escape in every sense of the word. Here, you don’t check in to a resort. You arrive into an ethos – one that’s lovingly woven through every moment, every conversation, every plate of food, every whisper of the forest. At the heart of it all lies Tri Hita Karana – the beautiful Balinese philosophy that teaches us that true harmony in life comes from a balance between three relationships: with people, with nature, and with the divine. This isn’t just a concept here – it’s the soul of Buahan. You feel it when you’re welcomed not with formality, but with warmth. When the gong sounds and you’re invited to pause and breathe. When your escape host like Budi knows just when to appear and when to give you space. When the team – every single one of them – treats you not like a guest, but like a fellow soul on a shared journey. You see Tri Hita Karana in how the property is designed: not imposed on nature, but flowing with it. Your bale opens to the jungle, unfiltered, yet cocooned in comfort. We were initially hesitant about insects and mosquitoes – but incredibly, we had no complaints. That’s the Buahan brilliance – they’ve thought of everything so subtly, you forget they had to think at all. And then – the food. At first glance, it’s minimalist. But then you understand: this is slow nourishment, not overindulgence. Each course is crafted with intention, using local ingredients in inspired ways. It’s not just culinary craft – it’s reverence. Even the Baligroni is a work of art, thanks to mixologist Ari’s thoughtful take on tradition. We didn’t touch our gadgets. Not once. Because Buahan gives you something far better – presence. The kind that seeps in through a walk with the activity team, or a quiet moment at the spa, or sporting a firefly at dinner where conversation becomes sacred again. What struck us most was how sustainability here isn’t a statement on a brochure – it’s the invisible thread in everything. From zero-waste practices to locally sourced materials, to the way the property breathes with the land – Buahan doesn’t fight nature, it honours it. We offered a few small ideas to Budi on how to make this heaven even more heavenly (ask him!) – but honestly, we left feeling like we had received far more than we gave. Thank you, Buahan, for not just hosting us, but for healing us. And thank you, Banyan Tree, for creating a sanctuary that proves luxury and meaning can coexist – rooted deeply in the wisdom of Tri Hita Karana. We hope this isn’t just a goodbye, but a promise to return. Again and again.

Buahan bliss package was the best massage I've ever had. Recommended for those who like relaxation massage.Especially the atmosphere including music, temperature, smell, nature sound was so healing. Thank Yanti for giving me an unforgettable healing massage experience.
Experience a stay unlike any other—this isn’t your typical hotel or resort in Ubud or anywhere in Bali. Nestled directly within a lush rainforest, you become one with the natural surroundings. Our traditional Balinese Bales are open-air, with no doors or walls, offering a truly holistic and immersive experience that seamlessly integrates you with nature. Discover the ultimate harmony and tranquillity you’ve been seeking. The staff at Banyan Tree, Buahan is truly exceptional - they anticipate every detail of your needs before you even express them, ensuring you feel completely comfortable and private. A special thanks to our talented Chef Suria, who personally crafted Michelin-star level dishes and shared his intimate knowledge of local food culture through a unique Ruja experience. His warmth and expertise made our visit unforgettable. Thank you for an extraordinary experience!
Nothing at all... If I push myself really hard, that’s the amount of light you get early in the mornings, which kind of inhibits your sleep if you're a bit sensitive to light like myself - nothing major though!
Our three-night stay at Bauhan was nothing short of extraordinary, thanks to Arsana and Budi, who made our experience truly surreal. Budi’s captivating stories added a magical touch to our time there. The “no doors, no walls” concept is an absolute must-experience, and living in this five-star jungle retreat was simply breathtaking. The staff in the open kitchen and their exceptional care truly made us feel like the king and queen of the jungle, treating us with such warmth and attention that we felt like family. The service was very, very personal, making every moment feel tailored just for us. Budi went above and beyond, arranging everything with care. He prepared a breakfast box for our 3 a.m. tour, checked in on us throughout the day when we were out exploring, and even arranged dumbbells to be delivered to our villa since the resort didn’t have a gym. On our departure day, which coincided with the village’s Silent Day, no cars could enter due to blocked roads, and the route to the airport required an extra hour-and-a-half detour. Budi seamlessly coordinated two cars—one taking the hour-and-a-half detour to transport our luggage to the other side of the village, and another to escort us on a tour around the village and through the village to meet the car on the other side, enabling us to experience Silent Day firsthand and meet with the villagers. This thoughtful arrangement gave us extra time to enjoy a final dip in the pool and soak in the bath, gazing at the mystical jungle and mountain views. For the most part, everything was perfect. However, we wished the staff had taken the initiative to assist with our belongings upon returning from excursions. Additionally, while the food was delicious, with vegetables so fresh they burst with flavor, it was often too salty and spicy for our taste, and we would have appreciated if the staff remembered our preferences. We have high standards, and Bauhan mostly exceeded them. Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit the waterfall due to rain, but that’s something to look forward to next time. We’re incredibly grateful to the team for their exceptional care. A highlight was both Arsana’s infused arak and the cocktail session on our final night, where Arsana guided me in crafting a special cocktail for my wife to help her sleep and an arak sour for myself—a perfect way to end our stay. And the spa—you must try it! I won’t spoil the experience, but it’s unforgettable. If you visit Ubud, Bauhan is a must. The warmth and hospitality, as Arsana says, make colleagues and guests feel like family. We can’t recommend it enough! There is so much more than what I’ve mentioned—it’s an experience you must not miss.
A very special place, for sure the best hotel we’ve been to in Bali! The views are incredible and the staff is great. A very special thanks to Arsana for preparing the best (local) cocktails and wines, just ask him for a good cocktail and he will surprise you. He knows everything about cocktails and wines. Also a shoutout to the breakfast team, legi, Oliv, Nanda and Dek Ani. The local Indonesian breakfast from their own botanical garden is amazing! I have to mention Riadi, his task that week was to tell the guests a special story during a cocktail workshop. Just ask him about the special story when you meet him and you’ll never forget it. Last but not least, Yoga /ogay is the perfect host and makes your stay unforgettable. Thank you and see you next time!
It was a unique and enchanting experience: we stayed at the 7 peaks villa. Waking up in beautiful Asian jumble is amazing. The team friendliness was unique. Spontaneous help is given. Food is exceptional. Many thanks to all the team. Thanks to Arda, Harry, Dipa, Olive and all the others that I can’t remember their first names. We recommend 100% !
From the moment you enter the resort you are cocooned in a sensory haven: the many shades of forest greenery, the sound of river and waterfall, the smell and feel of the distinctly fresh air at 2000 feet. Gazing out to the distant volcanic peaks is both breathtaking and soothing. You know you have arrived at someplace special. Buahan has everything you would expect at a luxury Balinese resort. The staff are unfailing warm and attentive. The accommodations are immaculate. The food is a fresh and delicious blend of Indonesian and Western. The spa services are sybaritic . The staff can arrange a wide array of activities on site and off site. But on our 9th trip to Bali we were pleased to find new delights. The chefs turn out meals that use hyperlocal ingredients in inventive combinations of vegetables, leaves, fruits, coconut, cacao( who knew how fabulous Balinese chocolate is),eggs, chicken, river prawns and more. The breakfast spread includes wonderful sourdough and dense multigrain breads as well as pastries and fruit in addition to the 3 course/6 option served breakfast which changes daily. You can forage in the gardens and nearby land with one of the chefs in preparation for a meal, and now you can join a local fisherman to catch river crayfish! You are assigned an Escape Host ( aka butler at other resorts ) although every staff member is happy to assist you . Our Host, DeGus, was a charming and articulate young man. We shared many stories of cultural differences and similarities between New York City and his village in Bali… You can imagine these were wide ranging conversations! DeGus was very patient with my attempts to learn and practice some Indonesian. But I was completely unprepared and bowled over when on our last day he presented me with an Indonesian/English dictionary that his mother, a tailor in the village, had adorned with a beautiful purple silk book cover and a small wooden nameplate with my name on the front. The 16 open air suites are identical in layout differing only in their positioning around the resort. It’s hard to describe the glory of waking up in the morning to look out to that open view. Even when it was rainy it was so soothing to look out onto the mist rising above the rainforest. My husband and I would often use that time to soak in the copper tub looking out at the scenery. The area is filled with many birds and at night occasional fireflies, all of which add to the beauty. The small pool is just long enough for a few strokes but is the perfect vantage point staring out at the view with a cup of tea or coffee or floating on your back looking at the moon and stars. Numerous other reviews have outlined all the specifics of Buahan. Suffice it to say you will not miss any of the creature comforts you expect in Bali and you will be transported to a dreamscape which may be unique. We have already made plans to return!
Food was out of this world. The area, the hotel, everything was amazing!
