Another perfect stay. Thank you
Nothing to change
Lovely stay in a beautiful cottage. Would definitely stay again!
Close to town but lovely bush surrounding, hearing the birds, warm comfortable bedding, nicely decorated with all mod cons, our second visit.
Felt the first time that the descriptions was misleading as the queen bed is actually in the living area so not two bedroom accomodation. Not a big problem for two single women.
A charming cottage. Cozy & comfortable.
The right side of the electric blanked on the queen bed was not working.
Lovely quiet location. Warm cosy well appointed cottage. Deb’s came to greet us and made us feel at home.
Nothing
The cottage was very cute and set up lovely
Beautiful quiet setting. Easy access. Great host.
Excellent location! Far enough from the hustle to enjoy the peace, yet only minutes to Hokitika township for easy access to the Wildfoods festival, restaurants, shops and Hokitika beach. The cottage is a gorgeous balance of old school charm & modern conveniences. It’s well equipped with all the comforts and quality items and furnishings you’d need to feel at home.
The only downside for us was although it has 3 beds (2 singles in one bedroom & a queen); there is only one bedroom, as the queen bed is in the dining/kitchen/lounge area. This offers no privacy for those in the queen bed; or option to those in the single beds to watch TV or access the kitchen facilities without imposing on the queen bed guest/s. Unfortunately we had trouble accessing the property (physically getting the keys etc to get in) as we didn’t receive the detailed info email from Booking.com. There was some sort of technical issue with the messaging system & we couldn’t get hold of the owners to get in. It was fortunate that after sitting outside after midnight, that we decided to see if windows or other doors may be unlocked & luckily for us, an external door to the bedroom was. Having already paid in full, we ‘let ourselves in’ & we’re relieved to hear from the owners in the morning who eventually got our messages to let them know of our conundrum.
The cottage is super comfortable with lovely decor, modern equipment, and very comfortable. The deck gets the afternoon sun and is the perfect place to relax at the end of the day. Debbie, the hostess, is very welcoming and helpful.

Very beautifully decorated
Coffee plunger not available
Quite - close to our convention - host very helpful - lovely cottage very quiet - well equipped with all needs for a good holiday
Great stay! Lovely well equipped cottage. Hosts were great! Kind and responsive.
Very pleasant and comfortable. A liile more info about local amenities might have been good. Overall very nice stay
Very comfortable and cozy. Had everything needed for a pleasant stay. Two minute drive or 10 minute walk to centre of town. Pleasant rural aspect. It rained for much of our stay so we were glad of such great accommodation!
Nothing.
Lovely litlte place to stay. Loved sitting on the porch listening to the Birdsong :)
I over ran the driveway 4 times! Maybe some kind of solar lighting at the driveway entrance to mark it?
Super cute cosy place to stay. Clean, tidy & super comfortable bed! We arrived late & the heater had been turned on for us so it was all warm when we arrived, thank you!! Great place to spend our last long weekend as a family of two before our newest addition arrives ☺️ Will hopefully stay again!
Pretty little cottage. Great heater Good bath room.and shower....but MEND THE BATHTAP in the bathroom. I discovered those 'leaf bits' in the bath were chips in the surface of the bath. The large black bath tap handle is NOT fixed to pipe and falls off when touched. No doubt at all that it is causing the chipped surface.
Thought bed was going to be uncomfortable..but we actually slept well and the sagging bed was not a problem. Figured a way of turning off bedside lights without getting out of bed...turned them off at the wall. Wish my arms were longer though.
Gorgeous little cottage. Lovely location. Just a short walk or drive to town, and close to everything Hokitika has to offer. Wish we could have stayed longer. So relaxing!
The kitchen was well thought out and stocked with what we needed. For a couple we had enough space and used the spare room for luggage. The heat pump kept the cabin warm.
Mostly disliked the extremely soft bed, broken taps, fake plastic flowers, daggy tired decor, Venetian blinds that can’t be let down, lamps that are unplugged, nowhere to plug them in, then broken bulbs - frustrating. There’s a general lack of powerpoints. This place was clean enough but hadn’t had any problems resolved for a very long time. The smell of cleaning chemicals on entry was overwhelming and required airing for the afternoon. The proximity to the other accommodation in this business is also very close which the property description did not mention. I do not recommend.
Beautiful cottage, beautiful location. Thank you!!!!
Absolutely nothing
A well appointed cottage a few k's out of town in a quiet spot. Check-in instructions were clear and concise, and parking is adjacent to the cottage. Plenty of dining options in Hokitika, so we did not use the kitchen!
Noting to comment
For a group of 2 couples, it was very cramped and the double bed was in the kitchen. There wasn’t enough seating. It wasn’t very clean. The lighting was also very dim. It was located a fair way out of town.
Quiet, private, close to town. Lovely verandah to watch the sunset.
Great for a couple but a bit small if more than that.
The cottage is on the rural fringe of Hokitika just south of the river. Beautiful quiet setting with native vegetation around the house. Spacious and well equipped.
The situation looking out to native bush was a delight and also hearing the birdie and visit every day by a bell bird. Delightful cottage atmosphere with modern facilities and nice decking where you could read and relax.
Loved every thing!
Quiet location just outside of town. Home was well maintained.
Queen bed in the middle of the livingroom.
Entire place to ourselves and it was very cosy and well maintained. The TV was awesome and there was plenty of storage and space. Incredible value. Feels larger and more spacious in person than in the photos.
Bed was overly soft but that's just my preference and is subjective. The shower head was leaking a lot at the connection from the head to the hose as well as the sink and bath handle/knobs were both broken but still able to be used.
Darling place with ample space and nice kitchen. And amazing night sky filled with stars! And occasional quiet moos. :)
That we didn't arrive earlier to check out the surroundings or meet our hosts!
Loved the location, great accommodation in a country setting, quiet road and neighborhood, but hardly any further from town as if we had been staying in a motel on the main street.
Nothing not to like, it was all good.
Self contained, nicely decorated, clean and comfortable

Lovely little cottage
Location was beautiful, the beds were extra comfy and everything met our expectations. The only thing we would make comment on was that there were not enough plates and knives and forks.
Nothing!
Away from town and peaceful

How it was advertised, is exactly what we got. Suitable for our group and not far from the shops
Pretty house Location Clean Good facilities Friendly Good view
No bad things
Well catered, comfortable and easy to get in.
Some of the utensils were no very clean. Especially the plates.
Liked the rural location.Very quietb but very handy to Hokitika town
Lights were all very dull.Tricky because we like to play chess in the evening. However very comfy and welcoming.
Nice quiet location just outside hokitika. Nice bathroom with a bath which was nice to relax. Pretty little place, lovely kitchen and living area.
The double bed being in the living area just reduces independent use of the space a little and the single bed wasn't the most comfy.
Warm and cosy. Lovely renovated cottage
Only one bedroom rather than two as in the description. Lack of space put belongings. No washing machine.
Location
Can't fault anything. Perfect
Beautiful cottage. Great location just a 2 minute drive from town.
Cute house to ourselves, quiet but close to town, comfortable beds. Good supply of teabags etc.
Lighting far too dim in living area and a couple of lamps not working. No PowerPoint in bathroom.
Nice cosy cottage in handy location. Lots of nice detailing.
The mattress of the double bed was much too soft for my bad back.
Cute, retro decor. Good location. Easy parking.
The bed was way to soft and uncomfortable. Difficult to heat. Shower needed a light. No table or bench in kitchen.
It was very homely and cosy
Lighting is very dark… bulbs could be bright
Lovely place to stay, good communication and comfortable.
Great kitchen
Didnt say one bedroom was in kitchen area
The property is lovely and very well presented.
We found the Queen bed very soft and very uncomfortable, in our view it’s in need of replacement, the single beds are just that “single” and not great…. king singles would be far more suitable! Some shelving in the bathroom area would be handy for vanity cases etc.
Excellent location.
Small single beds in the twin share room.
it was a beutifull place
Very clean and has all the amenities you need for a fun stay in Hokitika. Excellent location just outside of town.
Not an actual 2 bedroom. The bed in the kitchen is ridiculously soft. Two adults cannot sleep together on it as you sink to the middle.
Cute renovated cottage with lots of character. In a rural area so quiet and countryside outlook but close to Hokitika & Lake Mahinapua.
Lighting wasn’t great for beds but should be better soon. The ceiling light bulb had blown in bedroom (but they didn’t realise and tall ladder needed to reach it so not quick fix). Two bedside lights looked stylish but didn’t work well and these are about to be replaced. Also a break in the guttering at the entrance meant the covered porch was wet in rain, but this is about to be fixed.
Loved the remodel of the old building into a new and modern home. It was very comfortable and close proximity to Hokitika.
Peaceful, and well equipped.
Main Lighting not very effective.
Out in the country but still close to Westport town centre. Very quiet.
Described as two separate bedrooms on website but in fact only has one bedroom and a bed in the sitting room.
Very lovely location out of the way. Quiet and private.
The bed was extremely soft and we ended up bent double.
We loved our stay in the Blackhouse Cottage, and wished we could have stayed longer. It was gorgeously appointed and well set out. The beds were super comfortable and we were snug and warm in the cold. So cozy and the perfect place to unwind and relax. We would stay here again and again.
Beautiful quirky building and plenty of space ! We loved the fridge!
The potential of this property is awesome but unfortunately it did not meet our cleanliness standards. The outside furniture had moldy cushions & there were a lot of cobwebs. The shower was entirely black which was strange.
Location and cottage great. Good kitchen, great TV setup
Bed was too soft sunk into it.
Great spacious cottage with a full cooker. Nice and bright with plenty of natural light coming through the windows. Quiet area and only a few mins drive from the town and beach. Good sized bathroom and plenty of room to park. Fabulous place to stay.
Great location, a bit of a walk into town but nice & quiet. The cottage is lovely & quirky with everything you need for a great stay.
Couldn't stay longer
Lovely spot. Beautiful area
Just a great little space to getaway from daily life.
We had a bit of trouble with changing channels on the TV- maybe some instructions could be made available - otherwise no problems.
Nice garden, close to hokatika
Very comfortable and a great site. Very close to Hokitika
