Cedar House

Very spacious, nicely furnished, good facilities - fridge with icemaker was a bonus.

There was a security light right outside one of the bedrooms which went off every few seconds. The blinds didn't block completely so sleep was disrupted for one of our party.

Everything - great overall accommodation, grounds (incl spa) and service. Loved every minute of our stay thanks!

A beautiful historical home who h had been renovated wonderfully. Wonderful hosts and every detail had been considered. The views from the sunny balconies over breakfast topped off a wonderful start to the day.

Feels more like a home than hotel so takes a little getting used to. Self check in and help yourself type place but very comfortable.

Cedar House is a fine, large house very close to the town centre with beautifully equipped large bedrooms, a small heated pool and hot tub and free on-site parking. The owners Roger and Penny are very hospitable too.

As several other comments have noted, the breakfast is very poor, a "continental" breakfast in name only. Roger recommends a visit to the weekend farmers' market yet serves none of the wonderful local produce available there! There is no protein (no cold cuts, cheese, eggs, nuts or seeds), basically just starch (cereals and bread/toast with minimal preserves). The only fruit was passion fruit and TINNED peaches! Also, the duvet was far too hot in February.

A beautifully maintained 120+ year old house with modern pool, pool house and decks. Our first floor room had high ceilings, nice seating area with bay window looking out on pool area, very comfortable king sized bed, updated en-suite bathroom.

Expected more than a serve-yourself breakfast of cereal and toast and coffee.

The rooms are so spacious and the whole place is so well fit out and finished.

A few rooms have a private but detached bathroom accessible in the hallway. Obviously this isn't something that can be changed and was no issue at all but just be aware of it in case you are sensitive to that

This boutique B&B is extraordinarily well presented. Everything works, it’s close to the town centre, and it is absolutely stunning in its style. It is spacious and private and the management is always around if needed. We have stayed at a lot of these places and Cedar House really .impressed us.

It was a beautifully refurbished old house. Extremely comfortable and tastefully furnished. Very comfortable and spacious bedroom and superb bathroom. Also a lovely Lounge and range of drinks and snacks supplied. Walking distance to good restaurants too. Thank you both!

Continental breakfast on our second day was disappointing in that there was insufficient food for the number of guests = appreciate the owners had to take an early flight to Auckland so all forgiven!

Ease of access to the town meant that we could walk from property. We loved the comfortable room, and sitting room. The owners were very helpful and knowledgeable about the Gisborne area.

There was no tea making facilities in the bedroom we had to walk upstairs to make tea or get a drinking glass. Also as a gf person I had toast or toast for breakfast. No cereals for GF.

We had a large, bright, downstairs ensuite room with access to the pool area. It was well decorated and the room and the bed were very comfortable. The shower was also great. Breakfast was well laid out in dining room with shared family table. Good choices and very relaxed. The flow of the common areas was lovely. After checking out we sat outside in the pool area whilst waiting for our ride. A pleasant end to our comfortable stay.

There was nothing we didn’t like, only comment that, as we were the first to stay in the Pool House, perhaps side lamp in the bedrooms and one hair dryer - but you couldn’t fault this place - it was fantastic!

The room was large and very comfortable, as were the public rooms. The staff were very accommodating, and the location was quiet and perfect for my purposes. There was a generous range of breakfast options and hot drinks available at any time of the day. I would certainly stay again.

The private bathroom was across the hall, but this was a minor inconvenience. There was no fridge in the room, but there was a portable cooler for my medications. Again, only a minor quibble.

Location was excellent. Breakfast was quite lengthy with family so we had use of breakfast room for several hours.

The property and accommodation itself was delightful and comfortable, and although our room did not include an ensuite, we did have a very private, lovely & modern bathroom opposite our bedroom. There was also a thoughtfully stocked kitchenette with a great selection of complimentary beverages, snacks and treats. Unfortunately we did not get to have the delicious complimentary breakfast that was available each morning, as we already had plans.

Unfortunately our plans and schedule did not allow us to enjoy the facility and amenities it offered as a whole. Next time we will definitely leave more time to relax and take a swim, have a meal and enjoy the property and other amenities on offer.

Such a fabulous house beautifully presented. The hosts were amazing and helpful and friendly. Complimentary cake, chocolate and drink was above and beyond along with a nice breakfast daily too.

Beautiful home with a great location for walking to dinner and exploring the area. Comfortable beds and rooms and particularly enjoyed the brownie bites available. There is plenty of room to relax.

Jane is a wonderful host and recommended two great restaurants. We had a view of the river from our room Tolaga. The wine, coffee and snacks available in the guests kitchen made it extremely good value. Highly recommend

We had no problem with the stairs but worth knowing all four rooms are upstairs if you have mobility issues.

the owner gave us her worst room. a very small bedroom, rickety door. shared bathroom and communal citchenette. she told us that because we nade the reservation thrugh booking, she loses money. so she punished us. the beds were very narrow and too soft matress. we could not sleep
