Shandon Hotel

Shandon cancelled my stay 1 week before but never let me know. I was notified when i arrived and had to find a new accommodation on the spot. I was devotes AFTER they cancelled their bookings. I received emails the whole week and an email about check in in the morning. Even if i would have received the info - to cancel one week before is not ok when it’s due to renovations. The price of hotels increases a lot the last week.

Great location and friendly staff

Tiny room and bathroom, not very comfy pillows and no aircon. You go up the stairs through a building site which is so loud and dusty, you could argue that it shouldnt be open. A lot of money for just a basic room

Due to maintenance we were put in a tiny room and during a heatwave was quite claustrophobic.

Didn’t like the property at all

Everything It was apparently under refurbishment but it was awful. There was an awful smell of cigarettes in the room. The bed was as hard as bricks The pillows were as thick as the pillow case cover!! It had no tea making facilities There were massive gaps in the carpet and big holes on the stairs. The window in the room the latch was broken I didn’t feel safe staying there

Room was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful

Car parking was a challenge and when I went to leave in the morning I had been boxed. The staff member quickly resolved this though. Thanks.

Would have been nice for a heads up of the decorating works going on in the communal stairway. Also, very noisy buildings works across the road. The room itself had no fan or kettle, for which we had to ask for, after an evening of melting in the heat. The so-called double bed was pretty much a king-size single! (1300mm wide!) The pillows was so flat and had a smell, as did the towels. But the worst part was the smell of the drainage system in the bathroom first thing in the morning! Fair enough, the hotel is undergoing a major face-lift with the cosmetics of the decor inside, but they really really need to sort the drainage system out in the building too, cos it's proper rank!

They are doing works on the hotel, this was not notified. The mattress is super hard and old. There was a gap under the door and let a lot of light to pass during the night. There was also a light sewage smell.

The property is located very close to Richmond town. Our room was clean and modern. The reception staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating.

The room was rather tiny. We stayed only one night so it was not an issue but I will not recommend for a longer stay.

It was filthy. The rooms were filthy. The hotel was filthy. That was construction everywhere it was noisy. The hotel smelt like burning from where you drill something so long it starts to burn. It was disgusting. There was an even a kettle or glasses or anything in the hotel room the pictures is nothing like the actual room. It was disgusting.

The entire hotel was being done. It was filthy dust everywhere the carpets are peeling up from the floor. The walls are filthy. They put these little fans in that are filthy and covered in dust. The halls are filthy. Half the rooms are open and just covered in construction stuff. It’s disgusting.

Staff very helpful and friendly going and going beyond to help.

Good location, great shower , bed was comfy. Does need an air con unit in for when it's very hot though, especially the top floor

There were builders at the property when I got there there was a skip in the car park restricting the parking access

Friendly staff

The place was clearly undergoing a major renovation and was not suitable to be open. There was building dust all over the place and The room we stayed in by reception had uncovered wiring hanging out of the wall. Message to the owners- this is not OK. Fortunately we were only in the place for sleeping for one night.

My advise is DO NOT STAY here, we raised a number of concerns regarding health and safety as well as noise and cleanliness, they were not able to resolve our issues at the time, offered us a very small discount, which was not adequate, gave us an e mail address which has never been responded to. currently lodged with bookong.com I will not upload photos at this time as I am still hopeful the hotel will respond with a solution.

The receptionist was friendly. Location was good.

The hotel was in a horrendous state. Its clearly mid repairs / renovations. It was uncomfortably hot. The laundry that was supposed to be clean, smelt disgusting. It was absolutely nothing like the photos or description.

This hotel is a scam - the rooms are uninhabitable and nobody would accept the condition but the business appears to rely on the no cancellation policy and therefore they sustain revenue from bookings made even if rooms remain vacant

The hotel is under renovations and rather than closing the hotel while this is being completed they continue to take bookings. The entire place smelled of adhesive solvent, filled with dust and was a construction site daily! It is a complete health and safety risk for any guest during the renovations. We asked for a refund immediately after we checked in and had seen the room. We did not receive reply, despite chasing hourly. The following morning we were offered a different room which we very reluctantly accepted as there was no indication or any offer of a refund being provided. Overall the staff on the ground tried to help but “their management” were nowhere to be seen and did not respond!

The location to Richmond train station is great.

The room was dirty. Smelled. There was people's rubbish still in the room on the floor. Missing plug sockets on the walls. The shower door was broken. It was nothing like the photos provided on booking.com at all.

The receptionist was helpful in providing a kettle a hairdryer and a fan.The location was very good being walking distance to the golf club

We had to walk through a building site to get to our room with rubble and dust and the noise of workmen.The room was unbearably hot and the window did not open far enough to get any fresh air.The smoke alarms were all covered and the fire escape signage was not shown but ws on the floor.There was nowhere to put any clothing or hang the towels,The lighting was inadequate to read on the bed and the carpet was not clean with multiple stains.We had to ask for a kettle and fan and the room was not cleaned after the first night.We asked to have another room but there was none available. We have written two letters regarding our conscerns but as yet we have had no reply.

Adnan was amazing, he seemed to do everything and was extremely helpful. I would return because he was so helpful, despite the condition of the hotel.

The hotel is undergoing redecoration, with this comes a great deal of mess and noise etc.

The place was under renovations. The room they gave me had a huge amount of mould in the shower and was not appropriate for any person. The second room had been renovated. There was a half see through lace covering on the window that had mould on it. They put up the same one again the next day, which had been washed.There was no curtain; outside there were workmen coming and going all the time, They could see straight into the room. I requested a curtain, the receptionist said it would be put up the following day, but there was no follow through. They just did not care at all. There was no bedside table either side or even a shelf, just bare walls, and this was the renovated room.

There is no breakfast in this hotel! Bed was comfy. Rooms felt like enough space Staff are kind and helpful always. It’s easy to book in and they helped carry my bag up or down the difficult staircases. The hotel is very near Richmond station.

Many windows brown or cracked with no handles or broken handles. Stair carpet is very old now. A new building is going up next door/ across the road. It’s very very noisy.

Rooms have just been refurbished which were to a nice clean standard.

Refurbishment is still going on. Our room was in the basement and carpets on the stairs were uneven and a trip hazard. Also our room had cups, coffee sachets with no kettle. When asking reception then we're unable to find a kettle, therefore didn't have one for the 2 night stay we had and did not follow up on our request

Well, the staff was nice and helpful

My Superior Room was genuinely disappointing. I almost wished my eyesight wasn’t quite so good! I’m fine with shabby furniture and dated lampshades – for the price, that’s to be expected. But broken window handles? No curtain in the bathroom, with water splashing everywhere? That’s not acceptable. What really shocked me was the lack of cleanliness. It felt as though the room had never been professionally cleaned. There was thick dust on the skirting boards, in every corner, on lampshades and radiators. The sink was unpleasant – the plug had clearly never been cleaned and was covered in old toothpaste. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. Proper cleaning isn’t difficult or expensive, is it? This is the UK – surely there should be some basic standards. Yes, the location is good, and it’s obvious the owners rely on that rather than investing in the property. But regardless of location, cleanliness and basic convenience should be non‑negotiable.

Awful mattress. TV didn't work in room. Someone was sick in the toilet and the place stank of vomit. Place is also a building site. Shower rooms are awful. I paid 70 pounds for the room. Value would be 20 pounds for this hotel.

The bathroom was awful , mould everywhere , no door on shower so bathroom soaked . I know there doing work and trying to tidy this place up but to be honest it’s needs gutting and starting again. .

There is no breakfast and no lounge area for guests at all. Staff are kind and helpful. The hotel is being repaired in some areas but there are many broken things in the rooms - windows and their cranes falling outwards, or no handles in them. Some mattresses are really too old now. The lack of a fridge in the room makes the lack of breakfast even more difficult for some. Smoking was prohibited but the first room I stayed in smelled of smoke. Repairs were going on while guests were trying to get in and out. The main good points are the kindly staff and the price.

Disappointed I was not told when I called the hotel in the morning of our reservation that there was substantial work going on inside the hotel. When we arrived the reception area was covered in dust and wood was being cut up and lots of drilling. No facilities or toilet to get changed in before a wedding, my husband had to get changed in the carpark! Room was clean, bed very uncomfortable and no furniture to store our clothes we had to lay them on the floor!! We arrived back at midnight and not even a bottle of water in the room

No breakfast. Room was too small and there seemed to be only one bathroom and shower for 20 rooms.

Only 2 of the rooms that were refurbished were ok

One room we had was very dirty the corridors and even communal bathrooms dirty. Mould in the bathrooms plus other things to many to mention. The pictures of the rooms on the website were not what we turned upto. Even if it was being refurbished. Only the lower ground had been done and even they were nothing like what we seen on there. One of the refurbished rooms had a light that fell out of ceiling and the bathroom doors had a gap at the bottom which was not cut straight. The hotel had materials on show for work being done. The price we paid was not worth what we turned upto. We have photos but are waiting for a reply from the management before we do anything else.

The location was perfect for a meeting with friends. It was clean and the price was reasonable.

There were two kettles in the room, and neither worked. One had a loose base with exposed live wires.
