The Selwyn, Richmond

Location was perfect to explore Richmond, hotel was beautifully presented with interesting photos and paintings, and staff were friendly and helpful.

Bathroom was a bit small.

Lovely property, staff and close to the the town. The aircon was much needed for our stay!

Breakfast was lovely.

The staff The owner came to greet us at breakfast, 'forced us' to take pastries home (we where happy to oblige). Also asked us how they could improve the service. The host during breakfast was also lovely, warm and welcoming. The room was comfortable but small, shower amazing. Breakfast was fabulous. All fine, however the reason we will return is due to the service, that alone is what makes this hotel stand out.

Booked the deluxe double, was placed on the lower ground; bigger room but still felt small. Would have preferred a room with a view but as we stayed for one night this was ok. No netflix

Unique property with lots of character. The location suited us perfectly with good access to transport and to the town and the river.

The photos of the bedrooms were cleverly taken to make them look quite spacious. Our room was much smaller than expected. The bed was a good size but we did not have enough room to unpack our luggage. We should have taken more note of the dimensions which were provided.

Breakfast was excellent lots of choice and cooked fresh to order. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly nothing too much trouble.

Room was quite cramped for 2 people. Next time we stay we will consider a larger room.

If you stay in one of the smaller rooms, the wash basin is minuscule - think dentist spittoon. Poorly used bathroom space: a bathtub has been squeezed in instead of a walk-in shower.

Lovely hotel with good location . Very helpful & friendly staff. We arrived early but as our room was ready we were able to use it straight away - refreshing change to most ‘chain hotels’ who stick to 4pm regardless !

Parking was pricey but it is pricey to park anywhere in Richmond! Will get the train next time as it is so close to the station.

Could hear noise from next room and upstairs. When cleaning the room for the second night of our stay, the bed was not re made and the bath was not rinsed.

Great interior design internally with great reception area. Great landscaped garden where drinks are served, although tiny well thought out and clever use of trees for privacy and shade. Exterior of building well maintained and immaculate. The staff were All amazing. Kelly went above and beyond when we kept phoning as couldn’t find hotel, by running out in the street to find us and guide us back. Gorgeous such incredible personal service. Also looked after the bride to be with a free drink and lovely room. Managed to check most of the party in earlier so we could all get off to Kew garden. Lovely bar team served great cocktails and lent us glasses and endless ice. Nothing was too much trouble and staff seemed to genuinely be a Happy Team. Great to be able to leave car in car park. Location of Hotel is perfect for Richmond Park, Town, Kew Gardens, River.

For some reason directions and post code took us to the wrong destination. Luckily we had the incredible Kelly to guide us in!!!

A lovely addition to Richmond, Surrey ! Beautiful hotel, the most comfortable bed (Hypnos mattress), clean and very quiet inside. We slept so well. The staff were all so friendly and ready to help with anything. Location is perfect and parking available at the hotel too. Bar for drinks and breakfast also available (though we did not breakfast this time). We enjoyed having a proper bath before bed too ! We will be back again soon ! Thank you The Selwyn team.

The hotel was well-located, a short walk from town. On-site parking was convenient. Bedrooms were immaculate, comfortable and stylish. Breakfast was good. Bar/restaurant was lovely as was the outside terrace. The highlight was the friendly and charming staff!

The airconditioning was a great bonus in the heatwave - and it was quiet!

The people were welcoming professional and very much attentive.

It is close to Kew and the center of Richmond. Staff are very friendly and the facilities have been recently renovated to high standards. Rooms and hotel are modern and stylish. Shower and bathroom are very nice and shower has excellent water pressure.

The rooms are a bit small but and it took us a minute to figure out that we had to use our key card to turn the lights on, although this is user error on our end as this is uncommon where we live. But overall it was a great stay.

The staff were the most pleasant and helpful people could not do enough for you . Beautiful hotel and breakfast bar room. The rooms were wonderful too

The only issue is the bath mats are hidden in a drawer . The shower over the bath needs a bath mat and my daughter slipped in the bath. If it had been an older person it would have been disastrous. I’ve mentioned it to the staff to please leave the bath mat somewhere that can be seen . Don’t hide it in a drawer.

The hotel is great location and the staff are wonderful.

Some of the rooms are small but you’re in the heart of Richmond and the rooms & hotel are extremely stylish!

I especially appreciated the attitude of the front desk reception and guest services staff. They were very welcoming and warm. I also was extremely grateful for the air-conditioning. And I loved the decor in the open areas - very stylish and comfortable. I'll definitely be back!!!

The "Small" double room was a bit too small! No room for an armchair so you have to lie on the bed or go out onto the landing to read a book. The bath/shower facility was too cramped and was difficult/dangerous to get in and out of.

Lovely rooms (with exceptional aircon), super comfy beds, a great atmosphere overall.

A slight shame to be without a mini fridge in the room, and no biscuits with the tea.

Our room was directly backing onto where the laundry is, woke up at 5am with loads of loud banging and noise which was disappointing as up until that point was really enjoying the stay

The room was a standard double room but very small. I had expected more space for the price. We only stayed one night so didn’t have much luggage but struggled to fit hanging clothes for two people as wedding guests in the wardrobe. Parking at the hotel is very limited so you need to request a space and there is a charge.

Admittedly we had a small double but room tiny and bathroom was a joke. The sink was so small it was unusable so you had to use the shower to wash in. Felt as if they had been too greedy and crammed rooms in. Parking on site very expensive at £25 per night.

The staff were amazing. The decor was lovely. The hotel was clean and pretty, and the outside space is gorgeous in the sunshine. It was in a very convenient location (great cafe and pub nearby), and it's a 10-minute walk into the heart of Richmond and the Thames.

The room was advertised on Booking.com as 11 sq m. I knew it was tight, but as my own office/guest bedroom is the same size, I thought it would be adequate. The room, in fact, was just 9 sq m. That difference meant that 1) I had to climb through my husband or risk knocking the TV off the wall to go to the bathroom and 2) the bathroom door opens out and it's beyond a squeeze to get in there. We were worried at one point that my husband couldn't get into the bathroom. There should be a sliding door there instead.

Staff attention. The property itself and the front out door space. Loved the Wimbledon makeover too.

Lovely Property. Well situated for Kew Gardens & Windsor Castle as well as Central London. Air con is a life saver. Staff super friendly and helpful.

Basement rooms 102-106 are a bit noisy in a morning as they’re below the breakfast bar.

We stayed as attending a wedding nearby, during the heatwave so the air-con was fabulous! Best 2 nights sleep in ages! Location for a short stroll into Richmond to find a place to eat in the evening was great too. Lovely hotel, comfy bed, quality bedding and pillows, very clean - all the things I look for! We booked a larger room as reviews mention very small rooms and it was just right for a couple.

Selwyn is just a short walk to the downtown area, theater, and train station. Lots of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Tube into city is less than 30 minutes. Lots of local buses to get around the area easily. Front desk and restaurant staff were extremely polite and helpful. Room was quiet and comfortable. Great location, great staff, bathrooms very nicely remodeled.

Room was a little too small. Had to maneuver around luggage. The front desk offered to store large suitcases but we needed them regularly so we kept them in the room. Tub in room was rather difficult to get in and out due to a high front wall and slippery surfaces.

Great location with a short walk to Richmond Riverside. Beautiful house / bedrooms. The receptionists were great. Very personable and friendly. On arrival they’d recognised we were there for a birthday and wished a happy birthday as well as including complimentary breakfast for the next morning. Highly recommend.
