Reviewed Sep 3, 2026The modern contemporary style cabins are positioned & spaced apart to give maximum privacy, the setting is peaceful with a beautiful vista. The skylight over the bed give the stay a little extra magic, the lighting plan is thoughtful & soothing.

Reviewed Apr 5, 2026I’ll keep it short — as many reviews already say, this is the perfect place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine, and soak in a hot bath in total peace and privacy. At night, you can just look up and enjoy the stars. I can’t recommend it enough — it feels truly luxurious.

Reviewed Mar 6, 2026Perfect, quiet accommodation with a beautiful natural view. The bed was extremely comfortable and everything was stylish, modern and very clean. We really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere — it made the stay very relaxing. Honestly, everything was fantastic!
If there is one small thing to mention, it’s that reaching the house with large, heavy suitcases was a bit difficult, but that was really the only minor inconvenience.

Reviewed Feb 22, 2026Stunning architectural cabin with outside bath. Viewing the night sky through the roof blinds was amazing. Loved the thick fluffy robes and quality of the linens/towels. Good aircon. The free drinks and snacks are a nice touch. There is a microwave/dishwasher/toaster but NO STOVE. This is clearly stated in the amenities so I don’t know why there can be negative reviews about lack of cooking options. NOTE : the cabin KOUKA is 60m from the car parking & you cannot wheel a suitcase along the path. We loved the extra privacy but if you want your car close request another one of the 4 cabins.
There is a silly quirk that the black out blinds do t cover the top part of the windows .. meaning it’s vv light early in the morning. Ditch the free slippers and provide free eye shades instead !

Die Koffer so weit zu schleppen, ist eine Zumutung auf einem Steinweg! Es heisst Küche, war aber keine Herdplatte vorhanden, nicht mal ein Grill!! Auf Anfrage hiess es einfach, nicht vorhanden. Wir hatten extra alles eingekauft um zu kochen, leider wurde nichts daraus.

Reviewed Jan 26, 2026Our family group enjoyed a night in separate rooms, close enough to meet up easily but with lots of privacy. The units were impeccably clean. Wish we could have stayed more than one drizzly night. The outdoor bath/spa was a highlight. Easy drive to town.
We arrived on a drizzly early evening, and the sign for the facility was difficult to see and very easy to pass up.

Reviewed Jan 14, 2026Incredibly clean and beautiful. The owners must have had this architecturally designed as everything was so well thought out with the stunning skylight and heated flooring. We were able to star gaze in the yard, and my partner proposed to me! The outdoor bath was super relaxing. I loved the little gifts that the owners provided, we used and ate them all!

Reviewed Nov 23, 2024Beautiful site, modern furnishing and comfortable. Star is at night in Birdsong in the morning and all day.
The footpath between the car park and the lodge is rough gravel and was difficult to walk, baggage had to be carried. I am a person with walk impediments and found it difficult to arrive at the lodge. The information about this fact was given only after we had booked the lodge. It would be much more comfortable to have that path paved in some way so suitcases can be pulled on wheels. As a very minor note : Some shelves in the bathroom for toiletries and a possibility to hang wet towels would also increase the comfort.

Not enough crockery etc. Only providing 2 mugs and 2 of most things means you’re washing up every time or not enough to justify using the dishwasher. No paper towels. A nice espresso machine but no espresso cups.

I don't think I have ever been so relaxed than as during the nights I stayed at Nga Whare Manatu. This was the best location I stayed at in all of New Zealand and I just can't say enough positive stuff about this place. It sounds ridiculous but you'll go and you'll see and you'll say, "Oh, I get it."

The shower was huge and water pressure was great. The outdoor bath was absolutely amazing!! The extra amenities - slippers, robes, snacks and drinks - were great. The skylight was great for seeing the stars at night. Overall, this was such a lovely place to stay. So relaxing and beautiful. Thanks.

The outdoor bath is my favorite and you never have to worry about it running out of hot water!! It also has the best view of the sun rise. Have been in both the summer and winter and each time was just so relaxing. It truly is worth every cent.💜
I ran out of bath salts... but that's a me problem 😉

The whare is located in a brilliant spot - quiet yet close to town - and contained all the modern conveniences needed to really kick back and take time out.
