Lovely small hotel, I’ve visited 3 times in about 4 months. Always a nice, comfy, quiet room that is great for a good night’s sleep. Terrific location in Richmond and above all, a wonderful and caring staff.
Immaculate property, very comfortable bed,and en excellent breakfast.
Incredible location a short walk to Richmond Green and the sites of the area. Short bus ride to Twickenham Stadium for rugby matches. We will be back!
My experience there was excellent. Conveniently located near the Richmond Station, staff was super helpful and friendly, room was lovely. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Amazing hotel! Staff was wonderful
Outstanding hotel, highly recommend. Excellent friendly staff made us feel very welcome. We got a basic double room which was small but efficient. It did have small bedside tables on each side of the bed and a small desk with chair. Nice little nook held the coffee and tea service. Shower pressure was great, linens were high quality, bed was comfortable. We did have drinks in the bar/seating area after returning from dinner and had a lovely visit with the front desk staff. Lots of dining options and coffee shops nearby. Perfect for a night or two but I would want a bigger room if we were staying longer. Opening up two suitcases for an extended time would be hard to do in this room. Note that Richmond is close to Heathrow and you will hear airplanes until midnight and starting at 6am no matter where you are. The hotel has good insulation so we had no trouble sleeping, but we could definitely hear the jets.
Family room is awesome! Love this hotel! Have stayed 3 times before and will be back for many more stays.
Have stayed a few times before but never in a cabin room. Like a shoe cupboard, no room to move. Great location and parking but wouldn’t stay again.
It was charming—just what I was looking for. Front desk staff was very helpful.
Staff were excellent and went above and beyond, super clean too! Perhaps could have been a bit more generous with the breakfast portions, but still super tasty!
Our master bathroom is larger than the room we stayed in! Location was good for walking into Richmond proper. Breakfast was good, staff friendly
Liked the hotel. Reception staff lovely and friendly, hotel very handy to town centre etc. however cleanliness not wonderful, we went out for the day and came back. Toilet area def not cleaned. Biscuit packet still in the floor got the morning. Not great
Great location and stunning building.
Lovel
Minutes from shopping, 10 min walk to train station, 10 minutes to Ted Lasso Pub, Richmond Park 15min walk. Great central location. Very Posh, loved the heated bathroom floor. Breakfast was wonderful, worth every pence (penny). Room is UK sized so if you are expecting a large North American hotel room remember UK and European rooms ain’t that. Our room had a queen bed but still didn’t feel cramped. I struggle to think of a negative if only to add some legitimacy to my review but can’t think of a single thing. Definitely the nicest hotel we stayed during our 2 week UK visit. Will be back, hotel was one of the highlights.
The staff especially Hale on reception were very helpful and polite. The parking is expensive but it is London. If you’ve a lot of luggage and your larger people do not book a cabin room!
We had a wonderful stay at The Selwyn. It was such a great location. A short walk to the Richmond High Street, Twickenham and the shops. Bus stops and the trains close by. Bed was very comfortable and the staff were lovely. Thanks for having us !!
All the staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. It makes such a difference to the overall enjoyment of a stay.
We loved our stay at the Selwyn, and we will definitely be back! We enjoyed the bar and the outstanding breakfast. Our rooms were tastefully decorated, very comfortable, and so quiet as to provide a great night's sleep!
Great location and staff.
Small room. Decent location. Noisy early morning with laundry carts being rolled around on concrete outside the room waking me up at 6am - not ideal
Clean, well positioned for our needs. Beautiful location. Great breakfast.
Enjoyable stay
Staying there was a dream come true for my wife. Everything was very clean, the breakfast was spectacular and elegant, the facilities were spotless and the place felt very safe. Highly recommended!
Parking spaces were a bit tight and over priced Breakfast needed more options.
Great location and staff very friendly and helpful.
The Selwyn is my sanctuary after a crazy day out and about. Quiet, lovely, excellent location
The hotel is conveniently located in walking distance from downtown Richmond and a short drive from Kew Gardens, Syon House and other historic attractions. The service was good and the room comfortable.
Beautiful hotel, nicely decorated, clean & quiet. Well located & would not hesitate to stay again
Fantastic hotel with excellent service - nothing was too much effort for the hotel staff. We were staying to visit Kew gardens and the whole hotel experience really elevated our trip. Would definitely recommend!
The property is very nicely looked anfter and finished to a very high spec. The staff were very professional and friendly. The hotel is perfectly situated in Richmond and is close to everything. The only downside was to discover that it costs £20 per night to park the car! However the cost of the hotel was reasonable so not a disaster. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.
The water is softened making showers and shaving a delight. Really good location.
Third time staying at the hotel £10.00 early check-in is a joke, and charged for two days parking, this is my third stay at this hotel in less than twelve months has muddy my views on staying here again.
Great location
The room wasn't clean. There was pubes in the shower door The sink wasn't cleaned The floor ripped my sock. The coffee machine only had 2/4 coffee pods. The staff on entrance were really friendly.
Everything was perfect. Breakfast staff really sweet and helpful.
A very good independent hotel. Stylish lobby and main areas. Very good room. All recently renovated very well. Good value. Close to the station and river.
beautiful place and a good location
Excellent hotel. Wonderful & attentive staff, well appointed rooms, and very walkable location. Will definitely be back.
A great stay with excellent staff. The only downsides were the TV not working and WiFi not connecting to our phones (laptop was fine though). We would stay again.
This place is a favorite stay of mine every time I am in London!!!
Overall, my stay was okay. I was allocated a room on the Lower Ground floor. I could hear footsteps in the late evening from others staying at the hotel. No mini bar fridge to put cold drinks. Only terrestrial TV channels available. No facility for Apple iPhone users to screen mirror. Overall, had the feel of a basement. Positives: really friendly staff; nice clean room, nice hotel lobby, nice dining/bar area I got a bargain deal for a last minute stay. Maybe that’s why I was allocated the room I had.
Stylish hotel
Lovely hotel. Very boutique feeling with a great location. Nice breakfast and super service. Highly recommend!
The hotel was really nice but the service level was poor. They failed to refresh our room and said it was down to a staff shortage. There was no communication other than when we asked at the reception desk. It was a shame as the hotel and breakfast was good and we would use it again regardless.
I’ve stayed here a few times, and each time is excellent! The area is really nice and safe as a solo female traveler. There are very close supermarkets and shopping. The riverside and the green are very nice and picturesque. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable. This is my go-to place to stay when I go to London. I’ve had a better experience here than when I’ve stayed at other chain hotels, such as Marriotts and Hiltons. The staff is friendly and very helpful. One thing to mention is that there are a selection of rooms on the second floor that are not accessible by the elevator and require you to lift your baggage up a handful of stairs. Not bad, but may be worth being aware of if you may not be able to manage for whatever reason to ask the front desk for help.
Quiet, comfy rooms, excellent staff, and super location close to parks, cafes, playground and the Richmond station.
We stayed 3 nights in this hotel and from start to finish the service was excellent. We had booked one of the smaller double bedrooms; it was too small for us and next time we come we will book a larger room
Very pleasant venue. Happy with our room. Hoped for twin bed but none available - our double had excellent mattress which left other guest (my sister :)) undisturbed as i moved. Quality breakfast. Some noise (bins?) in night but i wear earplugs
Excellent stay.
The hotel was beautiful and wonderfully convenient. We had some grumbles about the room we were initially allocated but the staff were patient and receptive to our concerns and quickly provided us a new room with zero challenge. Wouldn't think of staying anywhere else for our next visit to Richmond.
The Selwyn is a very well specced hotel, the staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are finished and equipped to a high standard. Just be aware the small rooms are just that, quite small. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay.
Great space, lovely neighborhood.
Really disappointed the hotel is at a junction of the main road of loads of cars
This was such a lovely place to stay with easily walkable access to shopping and dinner. It was beautifully appointed and the staff were lovely.
Great hotel in Richmond near the pub from Ted Lasso. They were cute rooms with air conditioning. Very close to the train station which made it easy to get where we needed to for our tours of London. I would recommend staying there and would return. Cute hotel with character with very pleasant staff.
The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. While our room was lovely, it was very small. There are no amenities - not a cotton ball, q-tip, shower cap, robe, slippers or luggage rack. When we asked to check in early, we were told that it may be available, at 12 but we would be charged 10 pounds an hour. This is the first time we have ever heard of this. When we returned at 2:30 the room was still not ready and we entered at a few minutes before 3:00. As a visitor from the States and with one small bathroom to freshen up, it is a bit challenging to arrive at 10 and have all that time. The staff was efficient but not overly friendly or helpful when we arrived. The following day they were more warm. The breakfast staff and the late night Saturday reception were lovely and helpful. The hotel has great style but could use more attention to detail and substance.
Overall a very nice place with a good breakfast, first impressions were great however there was dirty mugs and dust all over our room
Very nice hotel in Richmond...close to train station and the main street in Richmond with many shops and restaurants. The hotel was nice enough to hold our bags since we arrived early but charges $10 euros an hour to check in before 3pm when the room is ready so we just sat in the lobby until 3pm. Rooms are TINY! The cabin literally has no room for more than one open suitcase. Our 2nd room was slightly bigger but again no room to leave suitcases open. The bathrooms are updated but tiny. A/C was great since it was very warm when we were there.
The room was very small.
Used as a stay over for Twickenham.
never should be classed as a double room
Great location for exploring Richmond and retracing Ted Lasso’s footsteps! Cute hotel with very comfortable accommodations, and the warm and friendly staff made us feel welcome. Lovely part of London and well worth a visit!
As other reviews have mentioned, the rooms are tiny. But the location and quality of the hotel make it worth the cramped conditions, at least for a night! I don't think I could spend a week here, but just a night was exactly what we needed in the location we wanted.
Very cute hotel in a great location to walk around Richmond
Beautiful reception area , friendly staff and delicious breakfast. The hotel was very clean ,rooms nicely decorated and cozy. Nice bathroom.
Friendly staff. A central location that is easily walkable from the train/tube station. Our room was clean, modern and quiet.
Would recommend
We loved our stay here! Lovely room and property. Very walkable into Richmond. The staff were excellent as well! We got into London very early well before check in and they were able to get us in our room early no issues. Extremely welcoming and friendly. Will absolutely stay again if we’re ever back in the area!
The hotel is very pretty, quaint and immaculately presented and in a great location for exploring Richmond. The staff members were very friendly. But the rooms were tiny. We stayed in a Classic room and i just cannot imagine how there could possibly be a smaller room (Compact) listed withing their hotel. We had to kneel on the bed to open the wardrobe door (the hanging rail went from front to back, so it was really awkward to put things in or take things out) as there was only just enough space for the door to open and it touched the side of the bed. A tiny ‘dressing table’ that most of the space was taken up with the tablet to contact reception that didnt work. The pillows were not comfortable, nor was the mattress but understand that can be personal preference. The tea and coffee making facilities- you couldnt get to them as they were attached to the wardrobe right by the side of the bed, but the tiny bedside table was there.(my husband has a medical machine that took up the little space there was on the bedside table) No space to put the cups when making the tea so had to carry them to the tiny dressing table. And the tea bags weren’t replenished anyway. We just felt really claustrophobic and stuffy all weekend and the air con only stays on for a couple of hours no matter what setting, so i was up through the night time and again putting it back on. We knew we hadnt booked the biggest room there but have not stayed in a room that small for many years. Such a shame
Great location, staff were friendly
We had fault air conditioning for our full three day stay which was not resolved in a satisfactory manner. This resulted in very poor sleep over three nights with the only solution offered being to call the receptionist during the night (every 2-3hours) to have them reset it when the stifling heat woke us. The window in the room also had no lock and could open fully (was this because of previous occupants of room 407 having the same issue?) . This is both a Health and Safety and security issue. I was eventually told the manager would discuss with us on our day of departure however they were not available so I was advised to email them !!! Also difficulties with the second reward room I had booked which took time to resolve. This was not a relaxing stay!!
The most poorly-run establishment I have ever witnessed. Money taken without reason, cards given to enter a stranger’s room, guests abandoned in hallways and so much more. Made Fawlty Towers look like The Ritz.
Great location. Small room but well appointed and clean with luxury extras.
We had such a lovely stay at the Selwyn last weekend. It’s perfectly placed for exploring Richmond, and the staff couldn’t do more to help. Super friendly, and welcoming, I was delighted to have gluten free croissants for breakfast! The shower was great and bed very comfortable. We were downstairs (room 102) and there was a bit of noise from walking above, but maybe take earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. Still giving a 5/5 as we had such a lovely stay in the beautiful hotel.
Great location.
This is a very cool hotel in a great neighborhood filled with pubs, shops, restaurants and gardens. The hotel is on a bus line and a short walk from Richmond Station, allowing access to all of London.
There was an issue on arrival with the room requested not being available, however this was dealt with by the member of staff on duty at reception in a pleasant and courteous maner, with the offer of two alternative rooms and complimentary breakfast. Everything about this hotel is of a very high standard including the cleanliness, and room facilities. The staff throughout are pleasant and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. It was excellent customer service and we highly reccomend the Selywn.
Friendly, welcoming, accommodating and helpful staff. Great location - and with parking. Lovely room - great light in the bathroom. Shame there wasn’t a safe in the room but no big deal. A very pleasant and comfortable stay. Highly recommend.
Room was a bit tight, but beautifully furnished. Breakfast was excellent.
Fabulous! Welcoming staff and a very comfortable room. Great location! Loved the gluten free croissants.
The hotel has a very high standard of decor and service. Staff are very professional and attentive. Location couldnt be better as only a 10 minuite walk to the heart of Richmond. My room, 403 , is on the small side with a very small bathroom. You need to be we organised with your belongings. Being at the front of the property on a busy road it was well insulated and hardly heard the traffic, which was a plus. Pre booking a parking space is a must but it states "free parking" on advertising but its not ! £20 per day. Overall our stay was pleasurable and we would inquire for a larger room next time. We would definitely recommend this boutique hotel
While realistically we know what one can expect at 150 or so a night in London today, having seen so many positive reviews and having booked a ‘luxury’ room we expected a bit more from this one. The room was only just large enough for the double bed and with nothing apparent to set it apart - so much so we were left wondering if we'd been put in a standard room by mistake. Clean overall, a little dusty. The drinking glasses smudged so we had to wash them again. Staff were nice. Good breakfast (though no English breakfast). Certainly a nice place to stay but not so nice that it'd be worth going out the way to stay in Richmond for.
Fantastic decor and customer service. Car park is limited and some spaces very small. We booked “a Selwyn” room which is said to be bigger but is still a very small room with no safe. Breakfast was fantastic with wide choice of good quality ingredients.
A one night stay as part of a mini break and tickets to the Richmond Theatre. Would definitely return and recommend to friends
Great location and lovely hotel
Wonderful staff and lovely cosy room. Great location!
Really nice hotel, clean, the location is fantastic! The customer service is outstanding, lovely breakfast and coffe machine in the room 😍. Things to improve but not a reason for not staying in this hotel again. 1. The (cheapest) room is very small for 2 people, we'll pay the little extra for the extra space next time. 2. The parking have an additional cost even though the actual parking lot is in the property. (Cheaper than NCPC!)
Amazing
Super cute boutique hotel within easy tube ride to Kew Gardens and car ride to Hampton Court Palace. Close walk down to the Thames and the Green. Lots of restaurants, pubs and shopping too. Wonderful breakfast that came with the room rate. Friendly staff as well!
The rooms were very quiet, clean and provided everything you needed. Walking distance to every we wanted to experience. Staff were very helpful. Would definitely stay again.
Nice hotel in good location
I love The Selwyn and have stayed a few times now. Will be back for more trips to Richmond!
We had a lovely stay at The Selwyn last weekend. All of the staff were very helpful. The common areas around the hotel were really nicely decorated and clean. The classic room was lovely and just what we needed. Walkable to the common, park, shops, restaurants and bars. I would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful hotel, very convenient location, close to wonderful restaurants and cafes.
Lovely hotel close to Richmond and Kew Gardens. Very comfortable and clean. Would stay again
Checked in early, left a bag. Asked if they could secure it, the receptionist said yes. Came back later and the back was where I left it! Not secure at all...
Great value for money. It looks grand from the outside. The reception area is classy with a cool 1920s kind of feel. The bedroom was small, but that didn't bother us. The breakfast was first class. I think you'd struggle to find anything this quality for the price in Richmond. Worth paying the extra £20 for overnight parking.
Good location, clean rooms, comfortable beds
Excellent hotel, staff very helpful. Beautiful reception area. Regarding a couple of maintenance issues in room needing to be fixed, assured they would be by reception. Otherwise room beautifully presented and clean. We would certainly like a return visit. Location perfect with on site parking. .
