Aucune isolation phonique.
Comfortable clean room. Location very convenient for my plans.
Sleep disturbed by traffic noise, but I appreciate this is not something that could be helped.
The room was nice, maybe a little dated but it was still nice. Lovely big, comfy bed.
The restaurant on site, not affiliated with the hotel was not good and incredibly over priced.
Excellent stay as always. Great location. Comfortable facilities
Nothing.
We love the location which is close to the beach. It is always a restful, comfortable stay. The rooms and bathrooms are beautifully decorated and a decent size. The surrounding outdoor areas are beautiful and lovely to relax in and explore.
It was good value for money. The accommodation side felt a bit like staying in a youth hostel. My single room was tastefully decorated and simple but the shared areas of this big old hotel felt worn. A hotel of two halves as the high dining restaurant was very modern and offered to host events.
As above, accommodation needs an update. Didn’t like letting myself in, would have preferred someone on reception all evening. Thought a ‘retreat’ in countryside would be quiet but could hear traffic all night on busy A road. Staff in restaurant a bit abrasive. Had asked bar staff earlier if I could come down for a starter, they’d said yes. I tried to phone restaurant to book this in but got answer phone. Lady in charge of restaurant said I needed a booking - and not being able to get through showed they were busy. Didn’t look busy and I was staying at hotel. They begrudgingly allowed me to sit in bar.
The room overlooking the garden was lovely. Beautiful high ceilings and comfortable. Very peaceful.
My only issue was the coffee making, as I'm a bit of a coffee nut and 2 sachets of Kenco ain't cutting it. But that's it really.
Location, setting, spacious, charming cottage.
The oven wasn't so clean, only 1 hand towel for 4 people.
Nothing
The picture on booking.com is misleading as it suggests a peaceful location whereas in reality the hotel is on a busy and very noisy road so that it is impossible to sleep in a room at the front, even if you use the ear plugs that the hotel provides. Also the double bed is a a big single bed so very small
Very noisy location
Convenient location, rural setting very relaxing

The room was lovely, clean and modern The price was reasonable and it was dog friendly
We had a room facing the road and it was very noisy with busy traffic We were given earplugs but these were of limited use I would stay again but would need to have a room at the rear of the building
Location was great- rooms were good size and bed was comfy
Rooms were very tired, no water on arrival, only one towel for two which was dirty (see picture)
Smart Pleasant and had a nice aura
Couple of big steps down Lack of instruction to get to the Drop Anchor brewery
Relaxed vibe and large room
Noisy road out front. Couldn’t cool room. Car alarms. Noise.
we were room only. The toiletries in bathroom were very nice.
the pressure of the shower was awful. It just trickled out at times. Our room was at front of hotel and the A35 was just metres away so it was very noisy.
The decoration of the place, it was central to what we needed. Dog friendly, great staff.
Only negative comment was noise from road as we were at the front of the building

Easy to park and access the room. Lovely location and lovely restaurant next door
Wouldn’t necessarily stay here on my own as would have felt a little vulnerable
There were no towels in the room and I had to call management to bring some which took time as it was early evening. I then missed my evening appointment.
Restaurant on site was excellent. We had vouchers which gave us 2 for 1 breakfast. Cocktails were 2 for 1 between 5 and 6.
Very close to a very noisy road. Difficult to sleep.
Lovely decorated and clean room, located within easy access by car to many other attractions. Restaurant on site had lovely food and fab staff, very relaxed atmosphere.
Noise from the road
Breakfast good, location excellent
no fridge and cabinet in the room
Everything
Nothing
Very clean and comfortable rooms but very noisy as my room faced directly onto the main road.
Double glazing would have reduced the traffic noise.
Convenient location, ample parking and well maintained grounds.
The windows barely open so the room was very hot. Fan hadn't been cleaned for what must be ages and so blew dust everywhere when turned on.
I loved the period features, the decor and the peaceful atmosphere
The traffic at the front of the building was very noisy in the daytime but on the whole this calmed down at night It would have been nice to have some bottled water in the bedroom
Thoughtfully equipped room and bathroom
Entering the room key code was a nail breaker!
The gardens
The road noise
Good location peaceful and comfortable
Breakfast doesn't start until 8, not good for going to work early.
No air conditioning, road noise in room, as window open.
Nice big room. Comfy bed and good shower. Nice for 1 night unless here for retreat purposes There is a separate restaurant on site who's food looks lovely but quite expensive
No staff seen. On a noisy road. Cannot walk to a pub or restaurant. Hotel is a bit tired.
Lovely room with stunning views
Closer to the road than we would have liked
Nice room and bathroom
We didn’t see any staff
Beautiful building
No staff actually running the place you entered your door by a code but you didn’t know who else had that code
Nice location easy to find
No personal service never saw anyone
Old manor house in nice grounds. Laid back feel. Quiet. Liked the French style decor. Realised later I'd stayed there nine years ago under different owner. Much better now.
Building showing signs of age but internal refurb wonderful. Was a bit worried early evening when could hear every word of room above's mobile phone conversation, but no trouble overnight thankfully.
Close to Highcliffe Castle and beaches
No welcoming staff. As a solo traveller I had a feeling of being there completely on my own. No central space to meet other people. It was just a room
The common parts were faded grandeur, which we love. The room was clean and modern with an excellent very large bed. Kettle, biscuits, all good. There is no road noise on the garden side. The separately run spacious restaurant with lounge and bar area was very good for breakfast and dinner. Our dog was allowed at a table in the bar area, main menu. All staff were utterly delightful.
A small point but the room door had to be slammed loudly to close. Our really serious problem was that such an old building had no AC - which may be virtually impossible if it is listed - and we were there during a record heatwave of 39 daytime. Nighttime felt almost as hot despite a fan being provided. Obviously this is outside the hotel’s control. .
The room was next to the main road. It was very loud in the room.
Fantastic private walled garden. House was cool even on hot days. Really well equipped kitchen.
Busy road but we knew that when we booked
Large room. Comfortable bed.
Snotty staff in the restaurant. Self check in. Didn’t see a soul. Very impersonal. Soul less.
Beautiful old building in the new forest set in gorgeous grounds with a lovely restaurant attached. My room (room 2) and a huge bathroom with roll top bath, fabulous walk in shower and lovely towels. The bedroom was big with a walk in wardrobe/cupboard, vanity desk and amenities table. The bedroom was large with ample space, a double bed with nice white bed linen, an electric fan and beautiful full length period mirror. The classes and experiences provided at the retreat are fantastic - I personally did the Qi Gong and Forest Bathing. I left my stay feeling much calmer and grounded, which was entirely the point! The location is within a very short drive to Christchurch and the sounding beaches etc as well as the heart of the new forest.
The road noise is a little loud due to single glazed windows (in keeping with the period property) but this wasn’t too much of a problem over the white noise of the fan. The mattress could use a topper (not what I’m used to so might be suitable for some). If you want to enjoy the roll top bath, take your own bubble bath as the toiletries supplied to do not include it, and while nice, are very basic.
The room was very clean.
I would suggest that as the hotel is called The Retreat it would be helpful if they made guests aware in advance when rooms are on the busy road. As it was warm, I had to have the windows open which make the room very noisy. Calling the hotel The Retreat meant I was expecting it to be tranquil.
Loved the location, had we have had a room at the back of the property but road noise was not good
No air conditioning and no one around to ask any questions. It wasn’t until we visited the cafe next door that we realised there was a lounge for guests.
Such a peaceful location Beautiful view Large room comfortable bed and good shower Staff at restaurant were accommodating and the the food was good
Cute hotel, very friendly and accommodating staff (we went to a wedding and were able to access our room very early to get changed). Lovely location! The building also has a lot of character! Easy check-in process.
Difficult in an old building like this one, but no aircon in the room (and it was hot during our stay), however the hotel provided a big fan which definitely helped!
The breakfast was excellent and definitely the highlight of my stay.
Unfortunately, the room was quite run down. The windows were very old and could do with being repainted or replaced. Because of this, the room was also very noisy, and I could clearly hear traffic outside. The shower head was broken, and the attic single room became extremely hot. I appreciate that I booked at the last minute, and perhaps there were no double rooms available. However, considering the price I paid, I feel I should have been offered a better-quality room.
the staff and location
the wi fi was really bad and kept kicking me out
Plenty of room space.
No air con
Large room and bathroom quiet areas to sit including garden
Near to the road noise all night but ear plugs provided
Everything it was perfect, peaceful bliss :)
Nothing I don’t like
Very friendly atmosphere. Tastefully decorated
I couldn't find a single fault.
Well appointed comfortable rooms. Garden view rooms are quiet and have open views across countryside
There is little to dislike.
Relaxed, good locking on doors, great parking, serene garden, ability to join classes
Great location, easy self book in, make sure you check your emails for access codes!
Admittedly we booked to stay on what turned out to be one of the hottest nights of the year so far, but found the room unsuitable to hot weather. On entering the room it was immediately apparent there was no air conditioning. The room was unbearably hot with only a small desk fan on the window ledge to move the air around. It was so hot in the room we were unable to stay in it and had to leave. Searching on-line we found another property, a few miles away, with aircon and were able to stay there for the night. Obviously this cost us much more and we lost the money we had paid out for the room at The Retreat, but staying at the retreat in such a hot room was not an option.
The bedroom was spacious and the bed was perfect wide and bathroom was equipped sufficiently
I missed drinks fridge in y room
Huge Bedroom overlooking the garden. Immaculately clean
Restaurant on the same sight not great
No breakfast included
The quite
The staff were friendly but there were simply not enough of them
The hotel needs serious updates, the outside is so shabby and need a total repaint, the photos do not represent this. It is very old fashioned and there is a lot of noise from the front of the hotel ( it is on a busy road ) and then in the garden there were guests whose dogs were constantly barking. We had breakfast in the hotel and it took 25 minutes to get served as there were only 2 members of staff working - the hotel needs to invest in more people. We missed our check out time as breakfast took so long....
It was very clean and tidy
Very close to main road and has a gravel car park which is very noisy when cars are in and out. They do provide ear plugs but due to the heat recently we had to keep the windows open, as no fan in the room and no reception to ask for one
All good, great collab with the Colin Nash restaurant. Peaceful
Nothing
It was convenient for where I wanted to be .. but the premier inn would have been preferable
Noisy room, smelt of shake ‘n’ vac (so what were they trying to cover up) dated and needed a coat of paint , extremely small shower
Good size for a single room, reasonable price
The shower is unsuitable for a larger person, an uncomfortable mattress and pillows, The fan provided was very noisy and couldn't change the speed. Much too close to a very busy main road.
Good location
The restaurant facilities next door had add ons to breakfast that one wasn't expecting so we felt expensive .i
Simple concept - great communication
All ok
Quite
Easy check in, clean rooms. Excellent shower! Lovely little walk at the back of property. Dog friendly. Excellent restaurant on the doorstep with fantastic staff and excellent food.
Good location for us, good price and quiet.
Enough towels for 2 people instead of just one.
Apart from 1 room, which was exchanged the next day, the hotel was great. Shame the restaurant is not open on Sunday. Food was fantastic
Just the issue with the 1 room
Room was huge and I was at the back away from the road so was very quiet. There were tea/coffee making’s in the room and it was very clean though tired looking. Staff on arrival very helpful as they had an event meaning we had to move our motorcycles from the front car park and we were allowed to park on patio. We ate and made use of Colin Nash restaurant and bar which is attached to but separate from the hotel. The staff there were great and food good . Location is ideal to get to Beaulieu/Sammy Millers, coast and New Forest.
Self book in but the codes and information didn’t arrive on my phone until after I arrived so if staff hadn’t been in reception I wouldn’t have been able to get in. A bit tired meaning the room doors didn’t close without being slammed (in spite of notices asking for quiet ) the wardrobe door didn’t close without being forced. The Carol Nash restaurant/bar closes at 4pm on a Sunday.
Location for vehicle museums
Hotel closed 4pm Sunday, none on sight, resturant also closed. Busy noisy main road, very few facilities on site.
Love the location Really like the vibe Food at the Colin Nash restaurant was exceptional The breakfast even more impressive
Nothing at all
Hotel unknown to us just found on.line. lovely rooms very helpful friendly staff. Also we were lucky that our stay coincided with a craft fair at the venue which was a nice suprise. Excellent food at reasonable price will definitely stay there again.
Lots of room, parking , location .
Good value for the price and a nice bar/ restaurant also on site.
The cottage is beautiful - private, very quaint and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and towels and bedding were clean and fluffy.
The bathroom was the one thing that really let the property down. It needs some remedial work to the walls (peeling paint and a lot of spot marks), the windows are very rusty and mouldy, the privacy stickers are peeling off, there was a very strong smell of damp and an absolutely filthy toilet brush that needs replacing ASAP.
The grounds were nice, especially if you have a dog. It's on a very busy, fast road, so the noise is loud, and you need a car to get to places.
The place needs a damn good refurb. It's very tired-looking and needs substantial money put into it. It had a lot of blown windows (restaurant side)... Paintwork inside and out was terrible. Window sills and woodwork were rotten. The cleanliness of the room was bad... It had a lot of hair from previous customers on the chairs and the bed. Dust, I don't think they've ever been dusted. It was thick! The bathroom paint was falling off the ceiling and walls. Need to damn good paint, refresh. The hand towel had a brown stain on it. The restaurant, I guess, the manager looked in an absolute state... Oversized shirt hanging out, looking very unclean. His customer service was shocking and wasn't very welcoming at all, and made me feel a little uncomfortable if I'm honest. I minus two things from my all-day breakfast and ask for an extra piece of bacon in its place, yet without the two eggs, all the black pudding he charged me for the extra bacon! On the outside, it looks lovely at first sight, but when you actually look at it properly, you realise how run-down this place is. If they put more time and money into making it top-notch, it would be a beautiful place, but at the moment, it's a rundown place.
The location is perfect for visiting the area. Close to the New Forest and the coast. A comfortable and spacious room with beautiful antique furniture.
For the third time in a row, we were placed in a roadside room. Extremely noisy. The cleaning wasn't up to it's usual standard.
Felt like we were living in a dream. Both the cottage and gardens were beautiful and very well kept. Felt like we were staying at a national trust property, loved listening to the birds in the woodland! Will definitely be returning.
Nothing
Beautiful facilities and lovely location and grounds. The room was lovely
Nothing
I came across some reviews mentioning noise issues due to the location near the main street and complaints about the staff being rude. However, our experience was quite the opposite. We found the place really nice and comfortable. Even though we had a room on the street side, it was surprisingly quiet and cosy. The staff was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend this place.
Very conveniently situation to the main road for other desinations. Busy road and noisy even at night but not too much of a problem. On site food was very good and well staffed.
Happy with everything...
Fabulous location. Beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend and will definitely return.
All was well
The property is beautiful and our room was huge! Really comfortable bed and great shower.
Nothing! Everything was lovely!
Nothing.
A small single very close to the A35. Very hot weather. Windows and curtains left wide open. No fan although in room details and requested specifically.
Beautiful surroundings and garden

Beautiful room number 4 Nice and clean maid service came and made my bed and gave a clean bath may even though I was only there for 2 nights .
The restaurant Colin Nash although it bases itself on fresh produce it serves orange juice for breakfast out of a carton . Unfortunately I had to turn my breakfast back . Had a 10.30 reservation when I arrived there was nobody in the restaurant. I was seated and then a member of staff came back 10 min later to take order . I ordered eggs on toast fried soft but not snotty a flat white coffee and a glass or carton juice as no fresh . 30 min later it arrived how it takes 30 min to cook two eggs on a slice and a half of cold toast I don't know. The bread was not handcut ,snotty eggs and marg on toast not butter 😤 Maybe my expectations were too high but I was pleased it was only breakfast and not dinner as I was dining with friends who live in area . I was unable to eat it so I turned it back ,very apologetic staff she said she did request not snotty . Would stay at the retreat again as I loved it ,yhe cocktails in he Nash Bar were also amazing.
The location
Phone and WiFi reception was poor in the room I stayed in.
Beautiful and comfy, the views was stunning and very clean
The yoga being held and the doors slamming
