It was ok That ll
It was cosy Clean
Everything
Room was good and beds were comfy. I have to say the people were friendly and eager to please but either the price needs to be reduced or the facilities need upgrading.
One tiny bottle of body wash and shampoo for 2 people! Very basic t bags and coffee sachets. Breakfast was not great, and the room for having breakfast in was shoddy. We paid £250 for one night in a room here - way overpriced! Either the price needs to be reduced or the facilities need upgrading.
Friendly staff. Quiet location.
Nothing
I never write a review but please don’t waste your money. I should have listened to the previous reviews. Very unkempt and untidy from the outside of the pub. Basic room with no toiletries provided. Our shower also overflowed, the filter blocked with hair. Very poor quality food didn’t even stay for breakfast. Hugely overpriced worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in.
Stayed for about 6 nights together with children an (very young) grandchildren and I can't rate this high enough! Great place to stay to get to other attractions in Dorset and Hampshire and is on the edge of the New Forest. Accommodation great and family run place makes for excellent friendly and very helpful staffing. Good food catering for all allergens with ease, I absolutely recommend The Fishermans Haunt at Winkton.
Most disappointing to discover that no breakfast was provided despite breakfast being mentioned on booking .com - not good enough! The accommodation was pleasant.
Breakfast required
We booked this for three nights through Pet Pyjamas, believing this would be a dog friendly pub. We stayed for one night. Where do I begin? The room was old, tired, dark and smelt of damp. The bedding was clean and fresh, but that was about it. The room had not been cleaned. There was thick dust on the window sill - such an obvious place to 'miss' when cleaning a room. All the fitments were 'wonky' and looked like they'd been put up in a rush, there were stains on one of the chairs, the old furniture had been repainted and the desk top was 'rising' where it had been repainted and the floor looked like it had been there since the 60's - cold, wood pieces rising, no comfort at all. We paid extra to for our dog and yet there was nothing provided for him. No bowl, bedding, treats, nothing, just an extra amount on an already overpriced bill. As we went round the site we realised there were no dog bowls anywhere and no bins - so we had to drive out of the pub to find a bin to get rid of our dog 'bags'. Very poor The local environment offered nothing. The pub was next to a main road with fast moving traffic, including large lorries. Walking the dog on the only evening we stayed was horrible for us and the dog. To go anywhere, you had to get in a car and drive. The inside of the pub was quite nice - I presume any money spent on the place has been spent on this as it definitely wasn't spent on the rooms, and having spent 10 mins outside, it wasn't spent on that either. The pub looks very run down from the outside, the seating area hadn't been cleaned or painted, there were cobwebs and weeds everywhere, and the noise from the road made it impossible to spend any time there. We had prebooked dinner, so felt we had to at least give that a go. The food was acceptable, nothing special at all, just standard pub grub. My husbands steak was cooked as ordered, however, it was full of gristle and not a good eating experience at all. My dinner was cold by the time I got half way through it. Serving hot expensive meals on cold plates? Rooky error! The prices. just like the price of the room, were ridiculous for what was served up. And for a pub that advertises its bar and wines, there were two choices of red, yes just two. By the end of the meal I had already made a reservation at another pub (which turned out to be worth every penny!) for the following two nights. We left the following morning. The only positive thing about our experience was the lovely girl who served us. She ran the bar and served all our food. I hope she is better looked after than the pub and accommodation is. This is a pub trying to be something it is not. The rooms weren't worth half the price they were charging - to be frank I've stayed all around the country in Premier Inns, and would take any of them above this place any day. The food is basic pub grub, served with a lack of finesse. Not worth the price being asked. The pub lacked atmosphere and customers - and we should have known we had made a mistake the minute we arrived and the car park was empty. Worse still, before we had even got through the door we were warned by a local about eating 'elsewhere'. Needless to say when we said we were checking out early, and told them our major reason was that it was sold as dog friendly and was not, we were not offered any sort of alternative or compensation. If they had, maybe we wouldn't be writing this damming review. Please, please save your money. This place just isn't worth wasting £200 for a night We left with our skin crawling.
Comfortable room with superb bed and despite heatwave, not over hot at night. Staff were incredibly lovely and helpful. Evening meal was good.
It seems picky but the shower water pressure was very high. You could save a bit of water and save guests wiping up the floor? I thought breakfast was a bit pricey so opted out but managed on porridge!! I also thought for a couple of nights it was a bit pricey - we recently had a whole week in Gloucestershire for the same price.
The price point gave the expectation of a luxury hotel which was far from the experience we had. Although it wasn’t dirty it was dusty and tired. The restaurant was more like a cafe with no atmosphere and no choice for me with dietary needs
Excellent location for a wedding we were attending, very friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast and lovely clean room
We stayed for two nights in June, paying £304 per night including breakfast, £608 in total. When we checked in, the receptionist cheerfully told us "you've got one of the nice ones." Sadly, that made what we found all the more disappointing. The room was dirty and the bathroom walls had mould across them, which I have photographed. Mould of this extent does not appear overnight and it had clearly been there for some time. The room was also very dark and the bedding poor quality. Breakfast was mediocre at best. At this price point I had expected a significantly higher quality and it did not deliver. The staff were friendly throughout, which I want to acknowledge. However, when I raised my concerns in writing with the director, I received a response describing the mould as "discolouration from condensation", which I found dismissive. A goodwill gesture of £50 was offered, which I accepted, but despite two follow-up emails payment was never made and my last email went unanswered. At this price point I expected far better. I would not return and cannot recommend.
It was a lovely village setting but is crying out for some money to be spent on it. It’s a Fullers pub so surprised this hasn’t been done
Unfortunately the bed in our room broke as soon as my husband sat on it to take his shoes off. This was at 10.00 and the pub was closed due to no customers. Luckily I managed to call out to the public a who was in a room above. He was really helpful and moved our room immediately. He told us the establishment is seen as more of a hotel than a pub hence the lack of drinkers.
Very convenient location for the wedding we were attending. Nice room and good breakfast available at the pub.
We stayed during hot weather and there was no fan and fairly small windows so the room was very hot!
Lovely location and very friendly. Room was large enough and comfortable with an excellent shower. Dawn chorus included Blackcap and Nuthatch! Would definitely stay again and recommend. Only "problem" was that the room was a bit busy and could use a little attention - blinds wouldn't stay up and there were more cushions than you could safely shake a stick at. Lovely.
Helpful lady behind the bar, great location and food good.
Very unclean from the floors which transferred to the shower area and bed. Bedding and then our clothing felt damp. Basically everything needed a good clean and the whole outside area needed some love and attention as this could be a great hotel with its location. The hotel did not reflect the nightly charge at all.
The pub is very close to the river Avon, hence the name “The fisherman’s Haunt”. Perfect for the fisherman to make a weekend of fishing and staying at FH.
Needs a spot of paint here and there, but has everything you need
Room tired in need of tlc. Obviously had a leek and not repaired internally. Very dusty Daily housekeeping not the best - quilt got a quick shake, tea and coffee replenished but no milk. Toiletries not replenished daily. Shower door handle fell off. Toilet brush disgusting.
We stayed here for an overnight stay as we were flying from Bournemouth early hours the next day. The room was extremely dirty and dusty. We asked for some extra blankets as the room was cold and there was a fake eyelash rolled up inside!!. We went to bed and all we could hear all night was the owners dog barking and doors opening and closing. We started off our holiday very tired due to this as we were up at 5am to get to the airport. We complained to the manager when we got back off holiday ( the owners were not there at the time). The manager assured me that they would get in contact ASAP... a whole week passed and I heard nothing so I called the hotel to be told by the owner that they have heard nothing about this matter. I explained my feelings again to be rudely told that i did not hear a barking dog and if I was in an airport hotel elsewhere that would be noisy too!. He stated that he would have a word with his staff and get back to me.. another week passed and i heard nothing. I called again to be told they are away and the owners will get back to me on their return which has been and gone!... I know the owners are new so surely they want to keep their customers and this is completely the wrong way of doing it!. I really didnt want to put a bad review on here but you have left me no choice to be honest. Make sure you avoid this place at all costs!!!
Location and friendly staff. Great breakfast.
No heating
Bed was comfortable and clean, staff friendly and personable. Decor in the room was attractive.
Kettle in room was very dirty, fan was covered in dust and when I pulled the blind down, the top was covered in cobwebs. Breakfast was not good, service was very slow. Noise late evening and early morning with guests coming and going was significant. Late night party goers kept me up past midnight on a Thursday evening.
Breakfast, staff location
Looks nothink like the photos . Bathroom full of mould .. the hotel/ pub looks very run down nothink like the advertisment . 2 star rather than 4 . The bar maid / receptionist lied to me . Manageress was pleasant and helpfull .
My old school's Sports Day was the 17th but, with no school left, we take a meal and catch up few times a year. This meal was out first go at the Fisherman's Haunt, and I found it exceptionally good value, steaming hot and served by staff who seemed interested, chatty, and very charming. 10/10, we shall be back!
Staff very helpful and friendly. The pub was very pleasant, good beer and pleasant menu. Room was very dirty, had not been properly cleaned including dirty cups from previous occupants.
Room was very dirty, had not been properly cleaned including dirty cups from previous occupants still in room. Room was also very cold, gaps between door and frame with cold air rushing in, heating not on - probably the worst room I have stayed in having visited over 50 countries. Pity because there is great potential.
It was a very clean room with a good shower and the booking in was simple and I was shown to my room quite quickly.
I was only there one night but I didn't have or see anything bad to report
The easy check in and out
The room was tired and very dusty. There was dust all over the hangers and shelving. There were cobwebs in the room and the mirrors weren’t clean. The towels smelt of food/fat. We were expecting a fridge in the room, the details and photographs didn’t match the hotel.
Lovely quaint rustic pub with wonderful staff lovely cooked breakfast after our stay in an upstairs room that was really comfortable and quite
The hosts lan juilie were lovly very kind down to earth very good being hotelers eve meal was excellent one best meals ever
The younger staff need bit traing and experience with guests the place just need a little tlc maybe a housekeeper to keep top of housekeeping in whole hotel and fixing few probs in room and toilets but the host made up for this in the freindless and kindest we really liked them 😀 but overall was very goid pleanst stay we deffo stay againe
Location good. Nice room but filthy.
Used to be a great place to stay and eat but now it’s gone down hill. Very rude proprietors who clearly don’t appreciate being told their rooms are filthy. I’ll never visit or stay again. Sad after having been a regular for over 20 years.
Warm welcome. Friendly service. Good food. Happy to recommend.
Car park was near the room.
Unfortunately, our stay was extremely disappointing due to the poor condition and cleanliness of the room. There were dead insects across the bathroom ceiling and even inside the light fitting above the sink. The bedroom ceiling had visible mould, and there were noticeable stains on the bedroom floor. The mattress was far beyond its usable life, heavily dipped on both sides where people had previously slept. It was extremely uncomfortable, offered no support, and felt decades old. Throughout the entire night there was a constant, loud droning noise coming from outside the window, likely from building equipment, which made it very difficult to sleep. When we raised these issues with the owner and requested a refund for the following night, we were met with rudeness and an argumentative response, which only added to an already unpleasant experience.
Water was very hot and plentiful and the bed was comfy. The pub is in a very quiet location so we slept well.
Having stayed at a fabulous pub/restaurant with beautiful rooms in Boscombe on Good Friday evening, we decided, on the spur of the moment, to stay an extra night. Sadly they were fully booked, so we had a look for somewhere else to stay on Easter Saturday night. It was a last minute booking, but we found 'The Fisherman's Haunt' had availability so we booked it. Sadly the room was very tired & neglected despite being described as a 'Deluxe Double'. The previous occupants damp towels were still hanging up behind the bathroom door & all surfaces were covered in dust (including the kettle) which was still filled with water & badly needed descaling. We had been out walking Hengistbury Head & the New Forest and were hungry so decided to eat in the pubs restaurant in the evening. The atmosphere was very underwhelming, it wasn't busy and it was cold. We both ate our food wearing our coats & scarves. The food was okay & was at least hot, but came in very small portions, so we ordered desserts as we were still hungry. Again tiny portions, and expensive for what they were. A table of 3 adults came in after us and their order was wrong when it arrived & had to be rectified. We left early in the morning and didn't bother with breakfast. In summary it was a very disappointing stay

New landlords are amazing! Food is exceptional. Worth a visit.
A lovely country pub with convenient airport parking, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms—perfect for a relaxing, hassle-free stay.
Good afternoon Reminder of confirmation of sent email pending response for our partial stay yesterday. I would like to raise concerns on my stay and my experience on eating at the establishment. Arrived to be booked in, which took 30 minutes Was taken to room Once left in room it was established that toilet was not flushed, no toilet roll. Counter with coffee etc was not cleaned or even replenished. "Manager" was informed of our concerns, he went to address. We were at that point frustrated, we just wanted to eat earlier, two dishes ordered were not available after ordering was accepted. We did not enjoy the food as we was so annoyed by the customer service, and failure of ordering food. Food was very expensive for what was delivered. We was going to stay and do pub quiz, however we were not in the mood by this point. We was offered no goodwill gesture at any point. We left pub earlier than planned, returned to room. We then noted STILL no toilet paper! My wife had to go back to pub twice, to ask again for toilet roll, and to go bank to be refunded for a meal we was not given. No sorry or good will gesture at this point. I could pick many faults in the room, however the experience superceded this stay. Please note we noted the heating was substandard, it was freezing during night, we did not want to mention this at that point, as we had been up and down the stairs all night dealing with your failures. We expirenced a lot of noise transferred from neighbours room which added to our stress at around 12am-2am We left early and went home due to being cold and lack of sleep. We was planning on having breakfast but as you could imagine this was binned off as we did not want to experience more discrepancies. We planned on going onto to the Christchurch coast, this was cancelled due to lack of comfortable sleep. I would like to express huge disappointment in our stay and dining experience. I leave it with you to take in this feedback and complaint and to possibly reimburse us. I will await a response on this before looking at escalating. I look forward to a swift response and resolve here.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Having had an extended stay, I found the whole experience superb. The hosts Ian and Julie were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room was excellent and very warm. Having tried most of the menu everything was above par, steak night on a Thursday was superb value at £12.50!!!. Breakfast I have to say was as good as it gets. Overall I can say I would recommend a visit or a stay here
Following a couple of great lunch experiences here last summer, we decided to return for a meal. The barman was very chatty and lovely person, and we learned the pub had been under new management since last October. We ordered fish and chips, and were extremely disappointed when our food arrived, the worst being the very well overcooked oily chips. They simply should never have come out the kitchen like that, leave alone served by the waiting staff, but particularly as we are paying a premium price to dine out. Whilst the barman did change them and the replacement were better, the standard of food was still generally poor. On top of this, we felt very disappointed by the landlady's attitude when I ordered another drink due to the delay, only to be told this is why we should have left the bar bill open so she would have avoided having two transaction charges. We found this to have been totally unnecessary, disrespectful and rude to our custom.
The owners and the guy that was working when I was there were really nice.
1. The images online make it look as though the hotel looks across gardens and a beautiful patio. In reality every window of the room looked directly out onto the carpark. You couldn't have the curtains or blinds open and when the pub customers left at night all of the cars went around two sides of the room which was really noisy and disturbing. 2. On the first night there were no towels in the room and some strange items left there by previous guests (a holdall, some cabling). On the second night the towel smelt so strongly of something like fried food it was truly grim. I don't think I have ever had to ask for towels, or to change towels, in a hotel in my life. 3. There was no cleaning on the first day - another first for a hotel. The bed was made but nothing was actually cleaned - not the bathroom, not the bedroom. 4. The room was really cold. 5. The noise travels flawlessly from the room above even just footsteps, running water etc.
Had a lovely meal here with a friend before their monthly quiz night. Really sweet and obliging staff, good pace of service, tasty food, lovely atmosphere, and the quiz was great fun, mixed difficulty so was a nice challenge. Would highly recommend if in the area.
Went for a Friday night meal with a friend, I had the sausage and mash which was absolutely delicious! We were served by a polite and lovely waitress who made sure we had everything we wanted. The cherry on top of the evening was the quiz which we will definitely be back for next month!
Stayed here for 2 nights in May 2025. My terminally ill stepfather was in hospital nearby. Initially booked via booking.com then called directly to add another room also for 2 nights for our friends to stay too. Manager (Neil I think) said to book with directly as it would be cheaper than going through booking.com. On arrival we were charged almost £200 per room per night for the additional booking. I queried this as it was higher than the rate still being advertised on booking.com and he said he would look into it and come back to us. He didn’t so I followed up with an email. They were not interested. The rooms are pleasant but very small and certainly not worth almost £200 per night. So if you do want to stay here book via booking.com and hopefully that guy doesn’t work here anymore. There were other reviews around this time about pricing issues.
The burgers were good, the pub was cosy and the staff were friendly and gave great service. The toillets were very clean too!
Stopped in for lunch with a family group. We were the only people there - it took over an hour to get our food and 3 of the orders were not right when they finally arrived and 2 were overcooked. Wouldn’t bother again
The meal itself was a let-down, but what really spoiled the visit was the attitude from management. Honest, constructive feedback clearly wasn’t welcome, and the response came across as rude and defensive. I actually felt sorry for the staff on shift — they were put in an awkward position and it’s obvious the issues aren’t of their making. This feels like a management problem rather than a frontline one. Overall, everything fell well below expectations. I’d strongly suggest Fullers step in and address what’s going on here — and quickly — as the current management approach is doing the place no favours.
We didn’t really experience too much as we were going elsewhere for a family do. However it was neat tidy clean and there was a nice atmosphere when we arrived.
Clean and comfortable and the Staff were really nice in the morning.
The bathroom was nice good shower.
Room very small and outdated I'm 5'3 and bed had a iron foot rest my partner is 5'9 so feet keep't hitting the iron bed end was advertised as large double but I would say it's not large no soundproofing as advertised you can hear everything from outside to inside.
No breakfast which we were informed about
Not a lot staff were brilliant food was great and facilities were great
The room and the bed were very comfortable and there was a useful kettle and biscuits provided The room was very nicely decorated Apart from the minimal choice I enjoyed the evening meal which was served in a pleasant dining area
There was no heating in the room despite the very cold nights during my stay at the end of September, and the room was very chilly, especially as the cleaner left the window open - maybe the heating goes on in October? I stayed for 2 nights and there was no hot water on the second morning - as there was absolutely no-one about and the main hotel was locked I was unable to report the issue before I left - at the age of 80 I no longer relish the idea of a cold shower so remained unwashed! Also as there was no-one about, it was unclear where to leave my key so I left it in the door of my room
It was lovely to have a affair in this property. Staff was spot on and room perfect. Me and my secret man enjoyed our stay
Nothing at all
No breakfast but you can get a continental bag you need to arsk reception
Nothing not to like budget location food and drinks all very good
Tasteful, cosy, dog friendly.
Convenient location
The change for my small dogs was very high with nothing provided for the additional fee. The room was noisy from the occupants inthe room above
We haven’t been to the fisherman’s haunt in years and today popped in for an impromptu a bite to eat. And what can I say but wow! We only wanted a light bite, however as it was Sunday we had a small Sunday lunch. The flavour was amazing! We had roast beef.. Cooked to perfection and the roast potatoes were amazing too. By far one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in a very long time. The staff were attentive and friendly. Very customer focussed and high quality food. Thank you Harry and Steve for great service. Can highly recommend and will definitely be back soon.
Fabulous stay. Beautiful little village right on the New Forest and close to many places of interest The hospitality by the staff was incredible. They made sure we had everything we needed. Catered to our every need with a smile Fantastic atmosphere with a singer on one evening The rooms were beautifully set out and were immaculately clean very comfortable bed Food was incredible with a full English breakfast that was amazing. Excellent value. We would definitely stay again and as it is so near Bournemouth airport we asked about staying the night before our flight and parking the car there. It worked out it would be cheaper than parking at the airport
We visited the fisherman’s haunt for a Sunday roast with family. The welcome and service were excellent and the food was hot and delicious. The atmosphere of this beautiful pub is cosy, especially if sitting by the open fire. There are plenty of choices on the menu if you don’t fancy a roast on Sunday. Looking forward to trying their pie night 😊
When we arrived it felt really cold inside. . It was extreky cold outside that day and they do have an open fire but it was not lit. After about 20 mins we asked if they could light the fire as we were all cold, which they did, but also said the heating was on and that it was cold because it was 12 noon and the pub was not full of people to keep it warm, which I found a bit of a strange thing to say. We were also disappointed with the food this time. The mussels and the ham egg and chips were nice but two of us had the scampi and both remarked it was overcooked and quite watery. The festive turkey sandwich was chewy, like it wad overcooked and a bit gristly also. Whilst the staff were friendly, I found them a little abrupt and not as warm and welcoming as the previous owners im afraid. Its a shame as we have been going there for years but im not sure id be happy to go back again now its changed hands.
Under new management from October 2025, the 'Fish' is a lovely, authentic village pub with fab hosts, Julie and Ian. We booked a table for a mid-week dinner, to try out their new menu. Harry served us Ribeye steak, cooked to perfection by Chef Malcom, followed by the scrummy Irish Cream Torte. At the moment the offer is dinner with either a glass of wine or a pint so good value too. Wait time as expected for freshly cooked food, not too fast, not too slow. Couldn't fault the service, food, atmosphere or surroundings. We will return!
The breakfast and service
Being cold
No staff available Even though I spoke to someone over the phone a week before, no notes were made of our conversation.
Nicely decorated rooms, plenty of space, some thoughtful touches and good standard of cleanliness
The zipped together single beds that formed the double were not comfortable after a couple of nights
Good location
Noisy room. Charged heavily for dogs but no value given
Staff were so obliging and friendly. Food excellent value. Rooms clean and comfortable.
The location for Sopley Mill weddings is fab. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was clean, the water hot and good pressure. It is nicely decorated and was a good sized room. We opted to have breakfast the next morning which was tasty. We liked that the rooms are in a separate coach house from the pub, with it's own entrance.
We heard the next morning that there has been a recent change in ownership which made some sense. We didn't dislike anything, but just some information conflicted from the listing on here and with the automatic replies. It didn't affect our stay in the slightest and we wouldn't hesitate to return. Whilst the breakfast was lovely, it would be nice to have a lighter option as well as full English. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Room itself was very comfortable, and clean. Very good sized room. Plenty of tea/coffee supplied and of good quality.
On the website it is advertised as including breakfast. It does not and there is no breakfast offered- you are given a list of suggested local cafes. You only receive an email informing you of this after booking. This meant that other b&bs/ hotels locally would have been better value for money. I think the listing on booking.com needs updating to reflect this. Aside from this, no issues with the room itself.
Extremely friendly and attentive staff. Room clean, bed so comfy and linen so soft. We were on ground floor which was excellent as we had two dogs with us.
Closer to family
Snoring person in the room below!!
Under new management Menu was not inviting we had 2 baguettes very dry and not nice to eat .we were asked if everything was OK but we're embarrassed to say anything eles .the menu before was good for lunch times .such a shame
Very nice room with iron and ironing board. Comfortable bed. Very clean. Good parking and walking distance home from wedding at Sopley Mill
Parking was fine
Didn't serve breakfast
It was near family who we were visiting
Extortionately expensive - £200 for night- described as deluxe room but v shabby - had to clean toilet before using shabby paintwork and handle on inside of bathroom falling off - table lamp didn’t work and bar shut at 9pm on a Friday - no breakfast either Don’t book through booking .com go to website Although I wouldn’t recommend staying for all the reasons above
Loads of parking. We had a Ground floor room which was very large and quiet. We booked last minute over the August bank holiday so it wasn’t cheap and the pub doesn’t serve breakfast. Manager is really helpful and nice pub. Very near the New Forest for walks. Would only suggest for the price would have expected some additional toiletries
We were late arriving and the key was left out for us. Thank you
Friendly staff
I stayed here with my partner for our 2nd anniversary and we were blown away by the warm hospitality. The staff left us a thoughtful gift of sparkling wine which made our arrival feel so special. The room itself was beautifully presented, spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The character of the hotel and the attention to detail really stood out. The pub was also great
Nothing major, we had a fantastic experience overall
Great staff, very helpful - Great accommodation.
Sehr gepflegte und saubere Zimmer, die Küche ist Bodenständig und sehr zu empfehlen. Top Service
Stopped for Sunday lunch while in the New Forest area. When ordering one of our party for dietary reasons requested a separate portion of chicken but this apparently couldn’t be accommodated - for any amount of money! There are plenty of food focused pubs in this area so we decided to pay for our pre-lunch drinks and take our dining custom where it would be better appreciated. This turned out to be The Bear at Burton where indeed the service was far better and food excellent.
The hotel and pub are very conveniently located for Christchurch and all of its amenities. The room was in a separate building to the pub, so there was no noise from patrons. The room itself was pleasant and clean, as was the bathroom.
The walls are thin so you can hear other guests if they play music at even a slightly elevated volume or are coming back to rooms. Only an issue if you’re a very light sleeper.
Good location and facilities
Would have been nice to have breakfast! I had originally booked thinking it was included
The rooms were in little blocks separate to the pub. The room was well equipped and a good size for our stay. The shower was nice, the bed was comfortable and the tea/coffee making facilities were good quality. The pub itself was nice - a quiet country pub with plenty of parking.
The rooms were not very sound proof. You could hear parts of the conversations of the people in the block (below us I think). It was a warm night and day and we would have liked to open the windows. The two that opened could only be opened partially for safety reasons. Unfortunately, this didn't help with air flow. Also, we were advised not to keep windows open at night due to being near water and there being midges around. It was a bit of a warm night!
It would have been nice if they had served breakfast
Staff were friendly and helpful. Disappointed to find the restaurant closed at 8 pm and the bar at 9. After a very long day at work and drive down, arriving at 7.30 I felt I wanted time to relax and enjoy a beer rather than be rushed in and out. The food I did have was fairly mediocre. Clearly just reheated, I could have got a microwave meal on the way down which could have been nicer! Fairly expensive too - (compared to what I would expect to pay back up in the north anyway). Very disappointingly breakfast is not provided. this is actually made clear in the bumph provided, but they quote some weird government legislation that prevents them doing breakfast! Odd... Rooms were fine, quite nice but nothing special so glad I a better rate through Expedia. Wall paper peeling off in my room. But a fan was provided for some of the hottest days of the year which was good. Tea and coffee as normal - no biscuits on the first day! Just one pack of two on the second .. Come on! It is a nice place in a nice area, nothing special it has to be said. The advertising and website implies it is more upmarket than it turned out to be. All in all, Yes, fine, but average, verging on the disappointing. Just a point about breakfast. I travel a lot and I find some places now do a buffet style breakfast, with cereals,, toast/croissants etc left out. Milk, fruit juice and some yoghurts etc available in a fridge for customers to help themselves, very cheap and easy to do. Makes all the differenc
