Comfortable bedroom Good food Pleasant staff
Nothing
Great location, staff very helpful. Restaurant and lounge very comfortable and outside seating. The bathroom was excellent. The beds comfortable. It was quiet. Large free car park.
Our room was an Indulgence room and expensive but it was in the attic and although the low eaves were protected it was easy to bang your head. There wasn’t a lot of room in the bedroom compared to the other rooms we have stayed in. There were no drawers to store clothes in.
From check-in to check-out staff fantastic, polite, attentive but not in your face, accommodated all requests. Location perfect and super super quiet, considering there is a rail line and an A road nearby, you would never know; don't let these put you off booking. We stayed in room - Uddens - absolutely wonderful, very well appointed, clean, bed comfy, shower room good size, copper bath in room, nice touch. Overall room size great. Food - restaurant food very good and breakfast (cooked and continental) more than you can eat. If you travel with a hound, they love them as guests too. Would thoroughly recommend the Bear to anyone.👍
Nothing not to like, fantastic gem.
Lovely rooms. Comfortable bed. USB sockets. Powerful shower. Fresh milk and water in mini fridge. Breakfast was really good, there's a continental buffet and plenty of hot options. We had dinner on the Friday evening and it was delicious. Staff all really helpful and friendly. Plenty of parking on site. Quiet location even though it's just off the main road.
Nothing
A good stay, breakfast was lovely - good range for vegetarians and both hot & cold options. Comfortable bed, excellent shower and nice toiletries. Despite being near a busy road it was quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pub has cosy seating and nice space to have drinks.
Generally a good stay, small little tweaks to make it better: Towels could have been higher quality. Air con was quite noisy. Mostly very clean but little bit dusty on bear lamps. The evening meal felt less good quality than the breakfast and surroundings would suggest! We walked into Christchurch on one evening and it wasn't the nicest part of the town to walk through, something to bear in mind.
Very comfy beds, lovely bar area. Friendly staff.
Not enough staff at breakfast time meant there was quite a wait for coffee & food, also although the ingredients are clearly very good quality there were slight issues...toast was not toast it was still bread! Eggs are overcooked & beans were cold. Twice we told the lady that the orange juice in the buffet area needed filling up, but it was never done.
Our 4th stay cannot fault it all staff excellence.
Very good food
Been before always good nice location easy free parking
Having visited the property several times 15 months ago it’s very reassuring to find out your expectancy levels are met once more.

Friendly staff and good food.
Relaxed atmospherevand superb helpful staff
Nice location, good food and pleasant room. Staff were friendly and helpful too.
Sadly the aircon had broken just before our arrival and given the very hot weather the fan in the room just couldn't do very much. The pull out bed for the third person, was very uncomfortable to sleep on.
Beautiful building. Fab bedroom. Staff were so friendly. Breakfast was great and an amazing choice
Lovely clean room, with friendly staff, complimentary Gin & tonic at the bar.
Faultless.
Beautifully decorated and maintained building with just 10 rooms. The room we had was very clean and incredibly comfortable and more spacious than a lot of hotels..
Staff were so friendly and helpful
Bed was smaller than expected for the two of us but was given a discount which was appreciated
Receptionist excellent. Situation perfect. Very quiet location. Breakfast menu excellent . Would have been good to have plain croissants available rather than all sweet, and to be able to make own toast without having to ask the kitchen to prepare it.
Used dirty cups from previous guests, left as clean cups, for us to use! A large ball of spiderweb and dust left along the side of the wardrobe. No full length mirror in the room, ample space for one.
Nice atmosphere
Location and first impressions was good.
Not able.to speak or find anyone on reception. Having to keep asking for teabags, because you was only allocated two a day. A fridge is supplied in your room with the tiniest bottle of milk. Had to buy own milk and tea in the end. Bathroom sink never flushed away, dust down side of bed. Air con unit was really noisy evwn when it wasnt on,. Breakfasts was cold first day, so didnt bother with a full breakfast, small amount of offering for cereals. Never offered more tea or toast at breakfast. Had dinner first night and was overcharged by 35 pound. Food offering for children wasnt good either. Other all for what we paid found a lovely first impression, but found staff not interested unless you.spoke to them. No welcoming approach.
Fabulous staff, lovely clean environment and rooms. Breakfast was fab
Nothing to dislike
Comfortable bed and room but air conditioning units from other rooms noisy at night
Disappointing breakfast and evening meal
Excellent breakfast, very generous portions, very friendly and accommodating staff, beautiful location, very comfortable and well presented room, and very good bathroom/shower. Loved all the bear-themed decor and would happily recommend this stay and stay here again!
The staff and location
Very comfortable air conditioned room. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful particularly Tania and Alessia. Excellent breakfast.
Lovely room, bar and breakfast. Really friendly staff:)
Rooms aren’t very soundproof.
Overall a good experience. Very welcoming and helpful staff at all times, including on arrival and for breakfast. Very convenient for breakfast / dinner if staying overnight. Well appointed bedroom and bathroom.
Air con unit made a loud humming/whirring noise around every two minutes for most of the night, making it difficult to sleep. Overall breakfast was good and we provided some constructive feedback about serving the 'Healthy Breakfast' on very hot plates - causing the eggs to over-cook and the smoked salmon to start cooking also! This option is much better served on a cold plate. Overall, for what is a pub, at £190 this was an expensive stay but at the time (in high season), there was no cheaper / roughly equivalent accommodation available, so their price does not appear out of line.
Location was great , clean , the food was fabulous and the staff were so helpful

Lovely hotel
Staff very welcoming. Food was excellent.
Room in roof was very hot despite the 3 fans the hotel provided
The Bear is wonderful! The staff are all lovely, and our room (Uddens) was great - very comfortable, excellent quirky decor, and a powerful shower. Little touches were much appreciated, such as the well-stocked tea and coffee tray, a fridge large enough to store a few of our own provisions, and high-quality bathroom products. We liked the retro radio too! Breakfast was terrific, and we had a great dinner on our first evening. The whole pub area is warm and inviting, both inside and out, and the styling is excellent. There's so much to do nearby - we loved our stay!
We liked everything! The freestanding bath in our room didn't fill at first, but a staff member came up and fixed the seal in super-quick time :)
I was quite nervous taking our dogs, for the first time, into a hotel but they were made to feel very welcome. The room was kept nice and cool, had a great shower and bath (wife was very happy about the bath :) ) Overall we had a very relaxing stay. Would certainly come back here when we next visit this area.
The staff were all lovely very helpful Breakfast was lovely Would stay again
No plug socket on one-sided of the bed Been nice to have a little shelf over the bathroom sink
It was superb. Arrived for Sunday lunch about 5 pm and it was one of the nicest roast dinners I have had. Wife agreed! Accomodation was also superb, with a lovely room with aircon. Spotlessly clean and really impressed. Bed was sooo comfy Staff were very attentive and the breafast( included) was beautiful. Freshly cooked and couldnt fault it. Value for money was amazing. The Harbour Hotel down the road was twice the price. We visited that hotel and had a lovely drink on the patio over looking the sea but other than that .. no comparison. Thank you The Bear of Burton... and will definitely return
Nothing. It was faultless
Staff, service, food, location near Christchurch but peaceful location
Room. Nothing like picture and very small.
As a coeliac, the menu was not adequately labelled and choices for me were limited with staff not properly understanding what was gluten free ( my breakfast arrived with breaded hash browns )
Small details, so day two we had no fresh milk in our fridge, some of the younger staff needed more support and not enough staff at breakfast.
Stylish rooms, very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was really good and we did enjoy the pub/restaurant with board games provided. Felt very relaxing overall. We will certainly go back.
The air-condition in our room was a bit noisy There was a good fan as well so not major issue but in a very hot day it may not be very efficient.
Staff were very welcoming, extremely helpful and very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.
Can’t think of anything
Conveniently situated- nice decked area and great for parking g.
Lack of air con- although we were given the option to cancel we proceeded aswe did think there would be more fans available.
Good location short drive to Christchurch plenty of outside seating and nice relaxing seating inside. Great choices on the breakfast and dining menu. Our bedroom was spacious, and had a great walk in shower. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
There was nothing to dislike.
Staff friendly and helpful
It was a very enjoyable stay ,next time will stay longer ,great restaurant comfortable and spacious rooms
Characterful. Good location. Very clean. Helpful staff.
We were warned well before our stay that air-con in our room was not working but the hotel provided a Dyson fan which worked well. (They had tried v hard to get it fixed the day before we arrived. Not their fault). We were given a generous credit against the restaurant dinner bill.
Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfast. Spotless clean room and comfy bed. Would highly recommend
The Bear at Burton was in a great location in Christchurch in an 18 century manor house with bags of space. We loved it straight away and it only got better. We met friends there and the food was really excellent and my Beef Roast was the best one I had had in along time. We were booked in overnight as we were seeing family next day and our friends were going to book themselves in there for a break. The only downside was there were no lifts, but the staff helped us up with our cases.
front of house was so lovely she made us feel special all stafff very proffesional would definatly come back
room was very warm but we were experiencing extreme hot weather
good choice and tasty
Warm welcome. Friendly and attentive staff. Good food. Comfortable bed. Good location for Christchurch or Bournemouth. Bear theme carried through the hotel. Plenty of parking
There wasn't anything to dislike
Just a pleasant place to spend time and relax.
Lots of stairs.
Staff were very helpful, polite and friendly Good breakfast
Couldn't open the windows Car park needs resurfacing
Everything. Lovely room with lots of nice touches. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious with lots of interesting choices on the menu with plenty of fresh fruit.
We did visit on the hottest day of the year and the room was exceptionally hot. We were given a fan and there was an air conditioning unit in the room but it just couldn’t cope with the build up of heat. This really wasn’t a complaint and we will return at a cooler time of the year as we enjoyed our stay enormously.
Faciliities and breakfast were great. staff were brilliant and accomodating. Warned us in advance of the air con being broken during the heatwave. Called us due to the delays on booking.com messages. The lad loved the bears. Good selection of in room drinks. Shower was great.
It was warm due to the air con being out of action, but that was out the hotel's control. They supplied dyson fans to ease the pain.
Simply beautiful. Gorgeous inside and out. Beautiful bear themed pub. We will be back ☺️
Nothing at all
Beautiful location, fantastic facilities, great food, lovely professional staff....
....
Staff were exceptional, food was good, ambience good and would use again. It was very welcoming to have air-conditioning and a decent fan especially as it was 30°C.
The only downside was the bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were also uncomfortable.
Breakfasts were limited and quite variable in quantity and quality. After ordering, delivery of the food took some time! Evening meals were expensive and not particularly tasty. The price for a bottle of wine was ridiculously high!
The food did not live up to expectations. The prices for both food and wine were ridiculously high then a 10% service charge was added to the bill.
Convenience to Bournemouth, Poole and Salisbury. Staff was amazing. Especially Katie. Went above and beyond for our group dinner
Nothing g
Exceptional, room staff and food
Lovely decor clean & fresh comfy rooms with lots of amenities like air con & fan…
Nothing!

Plenty of parking, great breakfast freshly cooked and served until 10.30am with no need to book a time, friendly staff. Good food.
Our room was next to a noisy boiler/generator(?) cupboard.
Comfortable stylish rooms, great breakfast.

The Bear of Burton is a lovely pub/hotel Not far from Christchurch centre Lovely outside back garden with plenty of tables and chairs
Liked it all
Room lovely food lovely cocktails lovely
Nothing
Decor, staff and ambience.
The air con unit kept my husband awake all night!
Very nice clean and comfortable room. Friendly staff and superb breakfast. Lovely view over the fields from the window. We have stayed here quite a few times as we like it so much and it is handy for Avon Beach.
A small thing but it was hard to sleep because the air-conditioning unit made a loud rattling every 30 seconds. We needed to have it on due to a heatwave.

So much decorative thought. Beautiful boutique style. Loved it
Lovely interior, nice rooms, friendly attentive staff.
Nothing
Suited our taste. Good atmosphere and great staff. Close to everything, by car.
It was lovely
The berms in the room and the walk up stairs to the room but room was lovely and bed comfortable
Lovely hotel. Room was beautiful and quirky bear theme. Nice touch to have bubbles in the fridge for our anniversary. Food was good but very slow service due to staff shortage. Wonderful breakfast. The majority of staff were very warm and friendly. The hotel is in an excellent location to explore local beaches and the New Forest.
Too long for food to come out but didn’t impact our overall enjoyment of our stay
very nice rooms, nice location, nice terrace! everyone friendly!
Very good breakfast. Location was easy to get to from our home address.
Didn't like the bath in the room and found the windows difficult to open.
Spacious, clean room with some quirky features. Excellent food and friendly staff.
Great breakfast, staff were helpful and attentive. Location is great and easy parking, pub is peaceful and lovely for a getaway close to lots of amenities
Staff worked really hard to cool the room down, the Dyson fan was great but the aircon wasn’t working very well. I think the bathroom could do with a better fan, but it was exceptionally hot this weekend.
Absolutely beautiful hotel
Having to leave to come home
Really happy with our short stay at The Bear of Burton. We chose to stay because of the connection with the poet Robert Southey so we were pleased to see him acknowledged in paintings, room names and quotations on the wall. The food, drink and ambience were very good. As vegetarians, we were particularly pleased with the range of breakfast choices. Glad we went for the classic double room as it felt larger and more airy and spacious. We slept well every night as the bed was very comfortable and the room quiet. The staff were terrific; professional, friendly and helpful. A big car park so easy to park. Thank you!
Pleased with everything but if pushed, just that at dinner time, on a couple of occasions, one of the two vegetarian dinner options was not available. However, the food we did have was very good.
Excellent meals- - breakfast and dinner.
We had to change room after one night due to being kept awake by the sound of running water (air conditioning unit?). Well
The attention to detail was excellent - I left very early in the morning and they provided a superb breakfast in the room fridge
Friendly team of staff, very comfortable room. Loved all the bear details. Food very nice.
Food and drink slightly on the more expensive side. Whilst the room was on the whole clean some areas could have been cleaner. Dust on curtains and towel rail very dusty but did not effect our stay and we would return.
Everything! Great rooms, service, breakfast

Amazing food. Great wine list. Lovely bathroom. Friendly efficient staff. Great location. Really comfortable bed. Fresh milk and water provided in the fridge. Will definitely return.
Inadequate housekeeping for our 2nd night. Hairdryers ( tried 2 ) didn’t work.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was very good as we needed to be either side of The Bear for family. The peacefulness of the area. Car parking was easy and accessible.
Staying for 9 nights, having to carry suitcases up and down a narrow staircase. If you didn’t get down for breakfast in the first hour, fruit, pastries etc were not replenished. Dogs being fed at the tables, being stroked by the staff who didn’t wash their hands afterwards and in one case a dog being allowed to put his paws up on the bar!! Surprisingly, I am a dog lover.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Bear of Burton. Great staff, friendly and attentive. Excellent food and a very good selection at breakfast. We usually stay in Bournemouth itself but the area is much nicer and because of the position we found it much easier to travel to new parts of the area.
Nothing springs to mind.
We really loved the Bear. The quirkiness of the room with bear touches. The breakfast was lovely. Staff very helpful.
Nothing to add
Good access to Christchurch & plenty of parking Breakfast choice really good too
Maybe the low beams but all were padded ok for safety & if you wanted to walk into town a bit of a hike
Room was large and had a dog feeding area which was great
No shower cap provided
We loved the location it was perfect for our needs.
Absolutely amazing place
Nothing to note at all
The staff were amazing. The rooms were lovely. The pub was great, spacious, great atmosphere.
It's too far to walk into Christchurch. Wider range of veggie food would have been good.
Lots to like. Well designed throughout with lots of quirky details. Comfy bed. Lovely smellies in bathroom and complimentary teas in room. Breakfast was really yum.
Bathroom fan was a bit noisy during the night for me although Im a light sleeper.
