Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Good location, good for cliff-top walks and price was extremely reasonable. The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful.
Mostly clean, needs a little more attention to detail. The walls are quite thin - have earplugs.
Excellent location near Newquay itself and the lovely Tolcarne Beach just a couple of minutes away. Very close to bus links and not far from the railway. Room was comfortable if a tad on the small side and bed was comfy.. Staff were good with the check in fine and the late night attendant was good.
Just one quibble - the shower wasn't great. It took a long time to get to temperature and the stream was very slow unfortunately.
Nothing
Staff,is not valwe for the money
The location was great. Just the right distance from the town and not too far to walk.
The only real issue was parking spaces.
It was clean and fairly peacfull
Nothing
Everything, when we booked the hotel we looked at the photos that were advertised on the website and it looked really nice, but when we arrived at the place it was very clear that the photographs was not an accurate representation of the hotel that we had booked . The rooms that we booked were not as advertised, the bathroom was appalling, the room was very dated and rundown, it had rips in the curtains and stains on the chair and stool that was provided to sit on, there was no wardrobe, just a small cupboard in the wall with a couple of coat hangers. The shower was hit and miss with hot water and during our stay the electric went out. There wasn’t a functional closing door on the bathroom, it was a sliding door that didn’t actually fit the door frame so there was gaps in which you could see someone when they were sitting on the toilet. All in all I would never stay here again and I would never recommend this place for other people to stay at either. It was that bad we checked out a day early and went home because we couldn’t stay in this place any longer
Like the room size and well organised room.
The bathroom door handle and lock were broken and shower also not enough pressure water. And bunk bed too noisy throughout the night. Other then all OK 👍
Very disappointing stay – not as advertised Unfortunately, my stay was extremely disappointing and the room was nowhere near the standard I expected based on the Booking.com advertisement. The floor was extremely squeaky, the doors throughout the property were constantly banging loudly, and there was virtually no soundproofing. I could clearly hear people above and below me, including general conversations and movement, which was very disruptive. The noise was by far the biggest issue and made the stay very uncomfortable. The condition of the room was also unacceptable. Tiles were damaged, pulled out and disintegrating, there was no proper shower, the sink was rusty, and the toilet was loose and appeared to be off its hinge. There were also very large gaps around the fire doors, which raised concerns about the standard of both sound and fire separation. I paid £144.35 for this stay and expected the accommodation to match what was advertised on Booking.com. Unfortunately, it did not. I have raised these issues with the hotel and requested a full refund, as I do not believe the accommodation provided was of an acceptable standard for the price paid. Overall, this was a very poor experience and I would not recommend staying here based on my experience.
The location
The beavh
not a lot to be honest
it is old , very worn and in a serious need of major renovation. so so disappointing.
Friendly and welcoming when arrived at Sandy lodge hotel. If I need more milk for the hotel room they would give it straight away. Every morning during our stay we had fresh towels and bed linen and fresh mugs and filled up the tea and coffee station. Everything was in walking distance from the hotel too everything was so local.
The only down fall was the shower pressure wasn’t the best
Enjoyed the room would visit again it would be ok for a weeks stay
Nothing
Friendly staff and close to the beach.
Sink in the room, it’s odd
Chambre propre et calme.
Hôtel un peu excentré (mais proche d'une très belle plage). Equipements vieillissants.
Stuff was absolutely amazing nice and tried to help all the time. Nicely located close to the beach.
Wifi was not working on my room in the first floor. The rooms were okey clean but suppose they could have been cleaner. But nothing to worry about just my expectations from a hotel.
clean, airy, helpful happy staff. easy to get around despite being rather a large. place. very comfortable bed.
walls were very thin. no replenishment of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits.
We stayed here for one night on our way down to Cornwall. The location is fantastic! Parking straight outside the hotel but you would be lucky to get parked there. There is parking straight over the road though so I didn't see that as an issue. To the bottom of the road if you turn left it takes you to a stunning beach. Access is via steps or steep ramp. To the right a short walk takes you to lusty glaze! There are plenty of food places etc within walking distance. This isn't a modern hotel by any means but we had a fridge and clean bed linen and towels. We just needed somewhere to sleep 😴 so it was just fine for that. We would book for overnight again. There is also a lift for easy access to the floors
Rooms are dated but for the price I thought they were fine.
Location was good, staff was welcoming
The staff
Location is about all that was good
Room was tiny, I could not even use the desk for my laptop there was no room for my legs. I moved the bed to try and fit in it and the mess under the bed made me put it back right away. I could hardly fit in the shower. They should not be able to charge so much for such an abysmal room.
Central location
Room smelled bad. Stains on curtains. Poor customer service. No working tv.
The staff were so friendly. Location is very good. It was very clean.
The bathroom was so small and it was a real squeeze to get past the sink to the toilet. Felt a bit like a hostel as there was a man standing in the middle of a communal area ironing?
Zeer vriendelijk personeel, behulpzaam ook. Locatie prima.
Good location, only a short 10 minute walk from the town centre. Parking outside (first come first served).
The water pressure wasn’t good in the shower, however there was a poster regarding some water issues out of their control. When booking it stated 3pm check-in but check-in was actually 4pm although we did get checked in about 20 minutes early.
Nice friendly staff, good location
Limited parking
Satisfactory hotel. Lots didn’t work in the rooms. Breakfast was awful
Things in room didn’t work. Breakfast was awful. Some ham and cheese on toast for £10 per head. Expected a minimum of a full English. Full English was not available
Perfect location, incredible staff. The couple of hiccups I encountered (nobody's fault) were sorted super quickly. As a disabled person, bed comfort is very important and I found no issues with that.
Nothing really, I was happy enough during my stay
The staff was amazing
Hotel was clean. Room and bathroom were clean, freshly painted. It was a nice big airy room, the twin beds were comfy.
Hotel under refurbishment. 2 mornings running started work directly outside room well before 9am. Decorator stopped immediately when I went out as my son was still asleep....but they should not start so early.....people are on holiday. I think 10am is reasonable not before 9am. Overall found the room very noisy right next to a fire door and stairs. Housekeeping also tried to come in early. As a result room was only made up once. Although the room itself was good, the shower was shocking. It was stone cold and barely a dribble. I had to wash in the sink that did have hot water. Interaction with staff was absolutely minimal, from when we checked in, didnt say hello when coming in and out.
Brilliant location, very central
It was clean and easy to access staff was helpful and friendly
Nothing to dislike as such just the lack of water pressure in the shower but it was what it was
Staff where great and very helpful, very nice room clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Great location short walk to town and the beach.
Work was being done on the balcony so we couldn't open the doors and it was very warm.
Nothing
Not very clean
Location was excellent.
Building was a little old and small rooms especially the bath cubicles.
the only thing I liked was that the location was close to the beaches
both beds were broken when I sat down in bed both beds creaked very old and I ended up with my back to the fur antique flat screen TV the relaxation and smoking area was abandoned as if no one lived there not worth the money the location was also a scandal there or beaten at night the police came
Location
Poor shower. V small room
First class, breakfast excellent chat with Scottish chap who advised on travel itinerary i planned to do exceptionally helpful who served breakfast(probably owner)5 stars
Could do with more parking
Reception, bar and dining facilities were welcoming
Room location, ground floor next to the courtyard. Outdoor light shining into the room all night. I could hear the TV in the next room past midnight. Squeaking floorboards from the room above when trying to get to sleep and voices really clear from outside again while trying to sleep.
Other than the location which is close to beach, there's nothing positive ro write about this place.
First of all, I am not that person who likes writing reviews, but what my family and I experienced is worth sharing, so others can learn and avoid ruining their holidays by staying at this place. There are lots of other lovely hotels to stay at in Newquay. This was a last minute booking. First the staff members are very rude. We booked for two rooms, and on day one, there was no lights in one of the rooms. When we went to reception and met a fellow who claimed to be on the night shift, he sounded and acted like a drunk, he was actually at the bar when we went down to complain about the lights. His response was something you would never expect" I am only covering for the night shift and have nothibg to do with fixing lights" was his respknse and became querelsome. Earlier, we overheard another older lady complaining of a water leak in her own room. The towels were very old, with stains. In one of the rooms, we almost slept with the door unlocked as it was a challenge closing. It seems the door frame had shrunk and the door was not closing prolerly. Then worse is when we tried using the showers. In of the rooms, the water wasn't flowing at all, then in the second room, it was just dripping. That's when we then saw a note saying there are known issues with the water system in the hotel, and interesting we were never warned in advance. Booking.com should do more vetting. Shower fittings for regulating water temperature had all falling off. Definitely the poor water system had nothing to do with this. The rooms were dirty, with dirt accumulating at corners of the room, and windows covered in bird droppings. The showers were dirty, with mould growing in every space. See images. I would score a negative 100 for cleanliness if I could. Three nights of horror, not holidays.
Quite honestly the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. Room 143 single bed. Clean hotel, ideal location for town centre. Friendly staff. Breakfast option available but I wasn't hungry to be fair. Would definitely recommend.
Nothing, met all my needs.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
Quite close to the main road, attractions, a number of beaches and the harbour, so fab location. Parking on a first come first serve basis, but I found a space so was happy! TV and internet great, overall really good value for money!
Very maze like corridors, but once you figure it out it's no problem. I only had a bath and no shower, which made washing off the sand a bit tricky, but not impossible. I'd visit again!
There is a lot of dust in the room.
The bed mattress is very uncomfortable.
I liked that it was close to town and beaches.
They were having problems with booking.com and said I didn’t pay I’ve had to pay another lot of money which isn’t cheap to the actual hotel soon got the refund. Carpet had makeup on. Mirrors were cracked, toilet seats were so loose, didn’t have any dinners at night time no entertainment as well very run down. Cold water in shower didn’t work at all so had to be moved rooms very stressful first 2 days
Location
Rooms on ground floors. ☹️ Opt for upper given chance.
Clean room.
Parking was tight
The location of the hotel and that it's near sea front and good location to going on to other roads that lead to the southwest coastline
Water pressure was very low with a shower that was either boiling hot or freezing cold and the water pressure needed to definitely improve with the taps in the bedroom as well as the toilet .
big bed very comfortable, clean bedding, great to have fridge for drinks, staff always very nice and helpful, amazing location to the beach and town centre. Managed to see solar escape which was amazing experience with beautiful view as well.
Bunk bed was very squeeky with every move, shower didn't have good water pressure, patio door didn't have a lock for security.
Easy to book close to my work
Later check out would of been better
Nothing
Nothing like its advertised, really poor standard and overpriced
The amenities were awesome, even in my tiny room. Coffee, shower products, hair dryer, mirrors, storage space & desk. More than some chain hotels. I believe there was also a kitchen & restaurant although I didn’t use them. Perfect location.
There was a bad smell in my room and the corridor. The shower kept going from too hot to too cold without touching the dial. Room 224
Staff were incredibly friendly; the on was really clean
It was a little bit further from town but still nice
The Hotel was good and clean.
The neer by neighbours were very load we couldn't sleep all night. After 2:30an at night we were down to the reception and we had to report this situation.
All the staff were lovely, especially the family who owned it. They were extremely chatty and accommodating and made the stay lovely. Lovely, cozy rooms in a great location all for a decent price.
Great location and friendly staff, clean and comfy beds
Upon arrival, my first impressions were that I wasn't very impressed and nearly took my daughter's credit card and confiscated it before she parted with the £800 for 5 days (maybe a few nights on the beach would be more suitable!) At just under £80.00 a night each, we understood that this was one of the cheapest places to stay during Boardmasters week, compared to others in the area which were over £1000+! However, the only plus point in the rooms themselves were the beds were clean and I could only settle after giving everything a once over with an antibacterial wipe. The rooms are very dated, bathrooms extremely small (so much so that one shower door didn't open fully as it hit the toilet!) and during a time when we're experiencing major heatwaves, fans were £20 deposit per room and available from the desk. The sad thing is, is that most of the reviews that we've read have also praised how lovely the staff are - which is true! However, staff only have limited means to maintain a hotel, and the housekeeping can only work with what they have. I would suggest that a little investment in the rooms would go a long way - for example, in my daughter's room, the curtains were badly stained and the netting was torn. A little care at some of these things would surely make it an easier job for your staff to maintain a cleaner hotel? Despite the excellent location and cheaper price during the busiest period of the year for Newquay, we will unfortunately not be returning due to the poor state of the rooms. But you want a place just to sleep at night and not spend any time there, it's passable.
L’accueil et la proximité avec les plages
Tout le reste .. L’eau ne fonctionnait pas et nous sommes prévenus que lorsque nous arrivons et pas en amont .. je n’aurais pas réservé sinon
Sadly the only positive comment I can make is that it was close to where I had to be the next day. I will say that whilst onsite parking is limited there is a payg car park almost opposite (about £10 per night).
The single beds were small, the room (111) needed to be cleaned, some of the electrical sockets didnt work (Most hotels now have changed their sockets to include USB). The shower hose leaked and the water pressure at 06:00hrs was pityfully low. There was surprisingly no fans ion the rooms to generate air flow at what has been our hottest summer for decades. Parking is atrocious and if it was explained upon the webiste it needs to be more obvious.
We received a warm welcome when we arrived and when we got back each day. All the staff were very friendly. The hotel was clean and fresh.
The staff were so lovely, friendly, welcoming and helpful. There is a good atmosphere. The property is in a great location for Newquay and for Boardmasters festival.
The bed was uncomfortable, there is no soundproofing and the floorboards creak really badly from upstairs.
Great location, helpful staff and parking available.
Proximity to strip
Tired, water wasn’t working properly. Shower didn’t drain. The fire door was directly outside our room so the whole night it kept banging
Friendly staff and great location
Room 233 – Apparently prime pigeon real estate The room was a good size, but very outdated and definitely in need of a refresh. The real entertainment, however, came from outside. We were treated to a daily dawn chorus of pigeons and seagulls from the early hours, apparently because Room 233 overlooks the local bird headquarters. The windows also came with a generous amount of complimentary bird poo, which really added to the overall experience. If you enjoy being woken up by nature at sunrise and having a front-row seat to the local pigeon social club, this is the room for you.
The room wasn't very clean.
Rent Enkelt Trevlig personal
Det var rätt varmt när vi var där och det gick inte att öppna fönstret
The room was nice and clean with comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Breakfast option is also available and it was very good.
Car park is available on a first come first serve basis but it would be better if a couple of spaces were reserved for arrivals and departures only to make packing and unpacking easier. Breakfast options could be improved if you want a continental breakfast.
Very comfy, nice atmosphere, good for the price and the time of the booking.
Could have been cleaner when arriving, not all lights worked nor did the tv. Wifi code wasn’t displayed anywhere and was not right when we received it.
Price, location
Old tired rooms but for the price was as expected
The location, which was a 5 min walk into town was ideal. The managers on both days were very welcoming and interactive.
Everything was as expected for the price I paid.
Location
Everything else, shower was poor, bed uncomfortable was a bad stay, loud through the night in hallways no one said anything. Just a bad place to stay
Staff is amazing, very helpful. Excellent location, just short walk to the beach, train station and the other 2 local beaches. Big thank you to Jade and Catherine (hope I’ve got the names right ) in the reception. Excellent for the price I paid.
Check out 10:00, check in 16:00, that is a bit extreme.
Good location and friendly staff.
The shower wasn’t great but it worked
Nothing. I'd give 1 Star that too for the reception staff that seemed decent people
Smelly corridors. Creaky floors that make noise and don't let you sleep. Creaky bunk beds that make horrible noises when you sleep or turn side. No house keeping for 2 days. Had to call reception 4 times between 1:45 am to 4 am to complain about loud music and people making loud noises. The floors of the hotel are noisy and creaking. The room card failed and had to be reset 2 -3 times.
Great location. Friendly staff great communication skills.
Tv wasn’t working apart from that everything was perfect .
Everything is as described; it’s a 3-star hotel at most. There’s an unpleasant smell in the corridors, and the towels didn’t smell clean. But for that price, it’s fine for a one-night stay.
Nice big bed and staff were lovely
The bath didnt work amd the shower which u had to hold up over your head was leaking and had no pressure
Perfect location, within walking distance to beautiful beaches. Really friendly and helpful staff. Everywhere was clean and welcoming. Our room was perfect for us, 3 bunk beds so we could all be together. Parking spaces helped us massively too. Will definitely stay again, but for longer next time hopefully. Thank you everyone at Sandy Lodge
Little blip with our first room having a leak but as soon as I mentioned it the staff arranged a room change and were so accommodating and helpful.
It was clean on arrival , the receptionist made us comfortable asap .
Day two after leaving a note to makeup our room ,no one bothered to do so .We went down to receptionist atlst she could have been bothered to make the room comfortable or even apologize on behalf of the cleaners for not having made up the room .All she said was there is nothing we can do this time .That was a bit rude
The water pressure is low, the shower is not strong
Nothing
Everything, it was not clean , problem with the toilet not working. Very very very outdated!!
It was OK comfortable enough beds
Didn't like that I couldn't open either two windows in the room. One was completely covered in pigeon shit and the other window was stuck closed with a double sided sponge tape
Good location,friendly staff
Bar not open enough,no breakfast during the week
Staff went above and beyond to accommodate us at very short notice. Comfortable and clean . Close to amenities
Limited parking but we had already utilised parking close by. No waste bin in room (just forgotten I’m sure). No loo roll holder in situ at the time of stay. Minor inconveniences.
The staff was super friendly, and the room did exactly what it needed to.
Close to centre
Bed was noisy as hell, rooms had no air flow, felt like i couldnt breath in the night. Shower basically dribbled, and after 10 mons trying to resolve, temperature kicked in and nearly burned my face and chest.
There was very little to like about it It is very dated with poor ventilation With a bad smell of body odour in my room
It was in a good location
Close to amenities . Staff went out of their way to accommodate us at last minute! Excellent service .
Parking limited but used parking facility close by.
Nothing
Worst experience of my life. How they can charge this much if they can’t give facilities. Staff lady was so rude. Rooms are in very bad condition. Toilet is suffocating.
Everything was excellent
Nothing
Good location
Outdated, not very clean. Doors banging all night and people talking and laughing all night because windows wide open and thin walls. Husband had to ask to move rooms - room was slightly better than the first but won’t be returning. Was a last minute booking due to limited space everywhere else, and although cheap, it wasn’t worth the price.
Bed was comfortable, it was acceptably clean.
Only warm water provided to drink. Shower had 0 pressure & took 15 minutes to get warm water. TV barely worked & freeview only No curtains on the bathroom window, so light shined through in the morning. Loud.
The area
The hotel very poor standards
Basic but everything needed. Clean and comfortable. Great location. Great price. Lovely staff.
Nothing all good
Nimic
Gălăgie
good location , rooms ok , generally ok
parking is somewhat difficult
Staff was very polite, location is excellent and rooms was clean.
The room temperature was very uncomfortable very hot and struggled to sleep, sink taps was both hot. Room 244.
The staff
The price
All good
The bar
room as expected. Nothing special but fit the purpose
Shower. Two days in a row I had no hot water in the evening
Lovely location near local beaches and short distance from the main shopping area
