Good location, ample parking
Bit dated interior for the rooms.
Pleasant, though aging, room. Good substantial breakfast though we took the smaller option. Good traditional bitter. Pleasant helpful staff.
For me the single beds in the twin room were a bit too narrow for comfort.
Great location for our needs. Clean, comfortable and quiet room. The staff were very welcoming and attentive.
Bed was comfy, breakfast was good
Very slow service at Dinner, and forgot to bring starter in advance of main, so it was cold when it arrived. The bathroom wasnt properly clean, Haiti in the shower and there was a strong smell of sewage from the loo.
Breakfast was very good

Warm and welcoming
Clean and comfortable
Aug 2026 Friendly welcome, great breakfast. Definitely plan to stay here again when visiting friends in the area. We would like to try food in the pub for dinner next time as breakfast was so nice.
Carpet in tge room we had perhaps needs changing or refreshing, but other rooms might have been fine. Public areas were fine. I'm being picky though. Generally everything was very good.
Location
Only enough milk for one tea/coffee each & hard to find someone in reception to ask for more.
It was surprisingly quiet at night considering the location. Bed was comfortable too.
Bathroom was dated, damaged, not very clean and smelled of damp. Breakfast is served in the pub next door, not a friendly environment and despite very clear requests NOT to put beans on the food, they were spooned on and permeated every item on the plate making it inedible. I accepted it initially, purely because I thought I could just scrape them off, but for some reason they had covered every area of the plate and everything was tainted by a horrible taste. I ended up not eating at all. It felt deliberate.
The hotel was clean and well looked after.
Nothing
Good location and a fair price. Friendly staff
The bathroom was rather small, the lighting was poor and the room was very shabby. Definitely needs up graded.
Clean, quiet and comfy.
All good.
Great location for creamfields and a very good breakfast.
Great location, good road links to get into Manchester but a rural feel with a lovely park area over the road to walk the dogs. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Pub food was tasty and a friendly atmosphere. Excellent value for money. Would recommend and would stay again.
Just off motorway , rooms modern
Breakfast on Saturday starts at 8.45am, not mentioned anywhere till we saw a sign at check in . Check in is situated in the bar .
Gute Lage, gutes Frühstück
Good value for the money.
Room was a little tired and need for some modernisation
Room spacious and comfortable
Lovely staff, great food, clean, couldn't do enough for you, we pre ordered breakfast and it was there on the nail as we sat down as we had to get to a car show at Tatton park, fantastic.
Nothing, perfect.
Bringing my dog room excellent food great staff friendly it was better then we expected 5 stars great location easy to find big car park value for money will definitely come again a recommend it to our friends and family
Nothing
Great breakfast
Large room for 4 members family with 2 single beds and 1 double bed
Nothing
Room was great, just no air-conditioning it might be a concern if in a heatwave . Also the breakfast choice was amazing could not fault it.👌👌👌👌
Nothing
Easy to access. Large room with private bathroom.
Felt outdated and needs a refresh. A fresh coat of paint at least. The room didn’t smell clean, multiple marks and scuffs all over the walls. The toilet was stained from presumably the previous occupant. The bed was not comfortable which meant I didn’t sleep well at all. Quite disappointing. Staff were friendly when spoken to, but weren’t very welcoming when you walk into the reception/bar.
La camera era molto bella, il pub è molto carino
Lovely place, comfy room, superb food, quiet, great staff
Shower seal not great and lime scale round bathroom tap.
I'm always so impressed by the exceptionally friendly and efficient staff, and the high standard of the rooms. Food is delicious - I'm always spoilt for choice with the evening menu, and the breakfasts are delicious, especially the Plant Breakfast! Would highly recommend for a work or leisure stay.
Nothing
It was central to the two days out we had planned. 30 minutes in each direction to Chester zoo and then Gullivers theme park
No house keeping on adjoining day, as stayed 2 nights. No emptying bins or a clean towel that was needed
Good value accommodation and great service at the bar
The breakfast black pudding was a bit dry
Great hotel: the room was a good size and the bathroom was modern. All staff were very helpful and it was nice being able to have drinks and dinner at the pub.
The breakfast wasn't ideal for me because there were only cooked options. I prefer to have cereal, fruit and yoghurt. Just having some apples and bananas available with the fruit juices would have been nice.
The hotel is clean and comfortable , decor a bit dark. Well kept, staff very helpful. Young waiting staff well trained, know how to look after their customers. Food is excellent Stopped using sourdough bread, hooray!
Nothing to dislike, love staying at The Cat and Lion.
Location was really good near the motorway very friendly staff room was big and comfortable food was excellent we had home made pizza we watch it being made
Nothing
Beds were comfortable
No air conditioning rooms were hot
The character of the pub was great, good food and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Very good value for money.
Nothing really
The hotel and staff were great only thing letting it down is Dogs being allowed in the dining area my husband has allergies and went kn yo have food in the evening there was 2 dogs in the area were people ate other than that all good
Thr dogs in the bar where u eat my husband has allergies and he couldn't stay because there was 2 dogs in were we wanted to eat its a big bar and restaurant but the part where hotel guests eat all the tables were reserved
Very efficient and plenty of it.
Gluten free options
It offered exactly what we wanted for a 2 night stay attending a wedding. The breakfast was terrific.
No aircon for the room, but supplied a desk fan. I would have preferred a shower rather than bath with shower,
Convenience and quiet
Limited choice at breakfast - no cereal, fruit or continental options
Every clean and was given an extra towel which is great as I have very long hair. It was very easy to book dinner also.
A hair dryer on a short curly power cable made it difficult to dry my hair. Could get the trap on the bath but the shower was ok if you like a rain effect.
We had take away bacon roll for breakfast plenty of bacon well wrapped for taking away .Outside eating drink area good food in restaurant good staff friendly.
Slightly disappointed with bathroom could do with an upgrade overall room was good.
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The hotel was very comfortable, welcoming, and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The highlight of our stay was definitely the food. Both the breakfast and the meals served at the hotel were absolutely delicious, with great quality and plenty of choice. Everything exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely stay here again. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Nice property with pub attached but not noisy.
We expected to be able to have breakfast but wasn't aware how late this started at weekends. Too late to make our ferry so we were disappointed with stay. I'm not sure this is clear enough in comms. Otherwise - good experience.
Friendly staff and good facilities.
All good.
Convenience of hotel and pub on same site, plenty of secure free parking. Good sized rooms. Staff friendly. Good value for money. Although food was very basic there was a good choice on the menu. There was a facility at reception to help yourself to additional teabags, coffee etc should you need them.
As it was the middle of summer, bottled drinking water in the room would have been a nice extra. Room was a little tired and in need of decoration, room could have been cleaner, for example there were two pieces of rubbish found on the floor, and there was a build up of brown scale along the ridge of the bathtub below the shower screen. Refreshments in room were limited to breakfast tea and coffee, no flavoured teas or hot chocolate.
Great location, just off the motorway, so a perfect stop off place on my way South. Really good adjoining restaurant that served good food, good drinks and was child friendly.
Breakfast wasn't served until 9am at weekends, which meant I didn't get anything as I had to leave before this time.
Great staff. Sorted out an issue with the beds not as description by moving is to twin room for the 2nd night. Very friendly. Good breakfast. Handy location for us.
Description of beds in family rooms needs to be corrected on booking.com site. It says they have a double bed and a single bed, but the single bed is only a "pull out" mattress. Would work fine if for a child though.
We've stayed here a few times and like the rooms and pub. Staff are welcoming and rooms cleaned well. Breakfast excellent with the most perfect fried eggs.
Price has increased quite a bit since we started staying back in June. So we may not stay again. May be just seasonal. Hope so
Really pleasant place to stay. Highly recommended.
Nothing
Convenient from the motorway, met the family there for a birthday meal. Staff were great, food was good, a good choice for pub food. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable.
The whole place is a bit tired and definitely in need of a refurbishment. Our room was worn, dark furnishings and the bathroom very dated.
Location good
If you don't like a cooked breakfast there wasn't much choice. No fresh fruit or pastries.
A very good hotel, good value for money overall, decent room. A stunning neighborhood with lovely greenery and park nearby if you're up for a walk!
Not overly clean though with obvious stains all over curtains, carpet etc - something that could easily be sorted if the owner wanted to. Pub - ok food, quite cheap, but all "beige" and unhealthy on offer - burgers, battered this and that, pies etc. Breakfast - hot food only, no yoghurt/cereal/fruit on offer which is sad. The hot options are ok but not the best - no salmon/avocado at all, again mostly beige or ultra processed fried food.
Good sized room, comfortable bed, pleasant decor.
On going down for breakfast (included in our room rate) we didn't fancy anything on the menu so opted for 2 rounds of toast and preserves. After 20 minutes of waiting we gave up and left. Poorly organised breakfast facilities, 3 cups on the bar and some hot water plus some juices. Otherwise everything had to be ordered from the menu and wait ..... and wait ..... and wait and then leave without anything to eat. And the place wasn't even busy. We had dinner the first night which was OK but the amount of chicken in the chicken tikka was very small, like 7 or 8 small pieces
Convenient location for a stop just off the M6. Great value for money, delicious breakfast, spacious (family) room. Great to have a fan in the hot weather. Quiet at night even with a room near the pub end. Excellent for a stop with dogs - dog friendly rooms and restaurant and a large park immediately across the road for walks. We are likely to return.
A toilet brush would be a good addition. Bathroom was clean but smelled a bit of drains.
This place is GREAT value for the money! Our rate includes parking and the pub breakfast (this is not a full English buffet style, each person in the room chooses a breakfast option, we didn’t find a bad one!) The location was perfect for us while we visited family in the area and did various things in Chester and Manchester. Very friendly staff in both the rooms and in the pub, everyone was just lovely and helpful.
Zero complaints!
Very clean and comfortable and out of the way! Manageress was lovely and helpful Food was delicious Great value
The location was great for us to do what we needed .
Very comfortable beds, spacious room, clean and nice decor. Good breakfast.
As I have rated the property it was good
Not much
Everything A1

Location,staff -
Drainage in shower and there was a bit of a drain smell outside so obviously a bit of a problem
Great location, as we were attending an event quite close by. The room was of a good standard with really comfy beds. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
The bathroom was quite basic, although it was clean and had what we needed.
Clean room and bathroom, lovely breakfast, helpful staff. Fan provided in hot weather.
Nothing.
Amenities for perfect for what we needed.
Great rooms and great pub on site
Very hot in current heat wave, but did provide a fan in the room, so only docked one point
Overnight stay with the grandchildren. Exactly what we needed
Clean
The location is great for both Liverpool and Manchester. Breakfast was good.
The room we had was a good size, but we found abundant cobwebs beside the bedside table indicating insufficient cleaning
bathroom was a bit dated, no fridge in room
We stay here often, this time in a
Quiet. Parking. Friendly staff
Booked a room with breakfast and was told it was from 7am. Went down just after 7am and everywhere was locked up so had to go elsewhere for breakfast which wasn't ideal
Lovely country pub with great food and accommodation, friendly staff and good value for money.
Very friendly, staff amazing
The single bed not comfortable but did what needed
My relations were very happy with the accommodation. they are coming up again in September thanks
The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was substantial.
It was too hot, but not the hotel's fault that it was during the heatwave.
Lovely food and atmosphere in the bar and great breakfast.
It not their fault but it was really hot weather and although a fan was provided, the room was still very warm overnight.
Good location for M6/M56 motorways, all of Warrington, and all the restaurants in Stockton Heath. Good pub food in a separate building. Clean, comfortable room. Quiet at night.
Breakfast options were limited. No cereal, fruit or yoghurt.
Parking and convenience, staff friendly. Food was good, and I like the ambience of the place. Allways like this place, why the breakfast changes?
Breakfast service.....no option of cereal and toast ! Why? Not everyone wants a cooked breakfast 😒 Ordered bacon roll.....came with sausage, hash and eggs? Why? Such a waste
Good location - nice breakfast
Evening meal was awful - steak like shoe leather and award winning pie far from it - expensive for substandard food
Food was Fabulous and lovely scenic location
Beautiful room, very comfortable. Great friendly staff. Amazing breakfast. Loved our stay & would definitely stay again if in the area
Nothing
Car park has plenty of room. Room was spacious and comfortable equipped with fan (required due to heat outside). Shower room was good. Staff were friendly, polite and appear well trained. Breakfast was good value.
Not sure that there is anything that I can think of.
Perfect location just minutes from the motorway but had a country pub feel and very quiet.
Nothing
Good location; lovely breakfast; comfortable, clean and well equipped rooms.
Excellent food and staff
Made us feel very welcome thank you
Luckily , not too busy..
Like most places, just a little upgrade on bathroom would be good
