Being chased for a hairdryer as I left,
Really gorgeous, peaceful and beyond amazing service. We had the largest family room with our own private onsen. Every meal was such a treat, and Yuko really made us feel at home!
Exceptional customer service and food!
A truly wonderful ryokan that beautifully preserves the essence of traditional Japanese hospitality. The facilities and garden are exquisite, and the multi-course dinner and breakfast were simply outstanding.
A beautiful and uniquely Japanese experience. The staff also went above and beyond our expectations. It's a very private place. Highly recommended
Not so much a dislike but being able to send time in a communal area to interact with other visitors would have need nice.
We booked a room with a private onsen, which I would definitely recommend if you want the full experience, especially as a couple. The room itself was beautiful, and both the dinner and breakfast were amazing. What really stood out, however, was the professional service provided by our dedicated room host. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional throughout our stay. She guided us through the entire dinner experience and even shared some very useful insights and tips about Japanese culture, which made the stay feel even more special and authentic.
Great kaiseki dinner with good quality ingredient. Staffs are very friendly and attentive. The corner room with private onsen is a good experience.

The staff and service at this hotel was outstanding! Noriko made every day better with her incredible hospitality. Beautiful gardens and delicious food. This is a must stay for a tradition Ryokan experience!
Nothing! It was perfect. Please be open minded to follow the traditional rules and values of a Ryokan, you will find things different to what you’re used to but it’s all part of the experience.
This was my first time ever staying at a ryokan and it was an amazing, relaxing experience! The property was beautiful and the rooms were spacious. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and even made transportation accommodations for our travel. Our hostess spoke English very well which was very helpful. The food was also very delicious! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!
We loved every minute of our time at Yoshimatsu. It was our first experience staying at a ryokan, and it met or exceeded every expectation. We booked a Japanese-style corner room with private onsen, which was spacious, comfortable, and immaculately clean. We also used all of the public onsens and never found them to be busy (often we each had our respective gendered onsens to ourselves or shared with 1 other guest, and we also used the "public" family onsen). A key advantage of having the private in-room onsen was being able to enjoy it at all hours because the public ones were closed for cleaning, etc, from ~10am-3pm each day (but available all night/morning). We enjoyed the elaborate 10-course kaiseki dinner and the impressive breakfast served in our room. These chef-prepared meals are a valuable part of the experience -- and they cannot be modified for vegetarian diets -- so we would only recommend this ryokan to guests who are willing (and preferably, eager) to participate in that (i.e., we tried some seafood dishes that we would never have ordered on our own). The staff at Yoshimatsu were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. They were responsive to all questions prior to our visit, and we were easily able to arrange shuttle pick-up from the local bus station. We also appreciated having the shuttle return us to the bus station at our departure, so that we did not have to walk with our luggage. Yoshimatsu is conveniently located a short walk from Lake Ashi. It is easy to jump on public buses from there to other areas of Hakone. We also enjoyed walking/hiking the Old Tokaido Highway trail to Hatajuku, with a stop at the Amasake Chaya tea house.
No complaints, but would not recommend this ryokan for vegetarians or anyone else who would not appreciate the kaiseki dinners because they would be missing out on a critical part of the experience.
The dinner and breakfast service was delicious and a wonderful experience. The onsen was very relaxing and clean. The room was clean and comfortable.
Everything was literally perfect.
Honestly nothing.
The absolute friendliness and humbleness excellent service amazing traditional food.
Beautiful property with the best customer service I have ever experienced anywhere! It is expensive but a spectacular one-of-a-kind experience. Great location too.

Everything. Amazing service

The staff were very friendly.
The room bed headboards were very dusty as were some counters in the facility. Some floorboards to onsen from room felt loose.
The staff - super friendly, helpful and nice

I would rate the Yoshimatsu 11 stars if I could. From the moment we were greeted at check in with tea and a sweet treat to the sweetest goodbye from Himeka, our lovely attendant, our stay was nothing short of divine. The grounds are meticulously kept and our room was traditionally and thoughtfully decorated, had a nice view of the forest, and was very clean. The onsen baths are so relaxing and the running water outside leads to a pleasant atmosphere. The addition of one private onsen, which we were lucky to use once during our stay, is a nice option to have for those that are uncomfortable with the public baths. Our meals were absolutely fabulous, and we had some of our favorite bites of food during the kaiseki dinner. Our attendant Himeka was friendly, funny, and so sweet. She made us feel so special and was also a highlight here. The rest of the staff is beyond nice. One of my only regrets of my trip to Japan was not staying here another night.
The stay was fantastic and there is nothing negative to say about the property!
Tout, le personnel, le Ryokan, le onsen
Rien, tout était parfait
Ens ha agradat tot. Bon menjar i molt bona experiència tradicional. L'onsen és preciós.
Beautiful location and the staff were lovely. So accommodating and helpful. The hot springs were amazing!! The food was incredible and so delicious. I have food allergies and thought I had notified them, but it didn’t go through (my own fault). They were so accommodating and went out of their way to help me still enjoy the meals. It was so, so appreciated!! They truly made you feel at home. The springs and ryokan are a very special place. We booked a room with a private onsen and it was so worth it. I would highly recommend for people seeking a classic ryokan with impeccable service, delicious food, and great location.

Staff were phenomenal. Onsen was beautiful and peaceful
Food was average
Staff welcome and overall staff attendance.
Felt a bit restrictive. Having paid a small fortune for a two night stay we had to pay extra for coffee.
The ryokan was absolutely beautiful. We had a private onsen that opened up to a garden and I could not get over how peaceful it was. The public onsens were wonderful - I happened to be the only one in the public onsens both times I went in, which made it a little easier to do as it was my first time. The traditional kaiseki was a memorable experience, as some foods were quite far from what we would've tried on our own. Same with the breakfast. The staff were all exceptional and very attentive throughout our stay.
We did not realize that our futon beds would not be prepared until after dinner. So unfortunately, that meant we could not take a quick nap on our beds upon arriving to the ryokan after a full day of traveling. We also did not realize that the staff would lock up our sliding doors that opened to our private onsen after dinner, which was disappointing because we did not spend much time in it before dinner and my husband has tattoos that are not allowed in the public onsen. The more you know.
Serene location, excellent facilities and super friendly and kind staff.
Yoshimatsu was amazing. We had a private onsen in our room which was perfect for our children who are experiencing their first visit to Japan. The Kaiseki dinner was amazing and they were so accommodating with serving our breakfast earlier since we had an early departure.
The mosquitoes!! Not Yoshimatsu's fault though. It was really only at the onsen that we had to kill a few of them.
Felt like I’m the only one in the hotel
Food was bit controversial
The most serene location with immaculate grounds
Absolutely nothing
Loved everything about it! An amazing and unforgettable experience!
Beautiful and very clean
Beautiful property and well maintained room. Staff was super helpful and kind
Uphill , a bit hard to get to but you can call the staff to get a shuttle pickup from Hakone-machi port
The lovely staff doing everything they can to make the stay as comfortable as possible. From greeting us and taking care of our (quite large) luggage a few hours before check-in, recommending lunchspots and walking trails, to waving us goodbye in the Rain as their driver drove us to the nearby bus stop. The staff also kindly serves you tea and a cookie while checking in, guides you around the premisse, and helps out fitting your yukata. They serve dinner in your room (which is more like a small apartment) and converts your livingroom into a bedroom while you enjoy a lovely multi-course meal. They then serve breakfast and take your luggage before you check out. Leaving some room to enjoy the calming atmosphere of your room before you leave. The food was amazing, and the in-room onsen was everything I hoped for, and more. I'll recommend Yoshimatsu to anyone looking to experience a tranquil retreat, amazing food, and an extremely caring staff. It was beyond all of our expectations.
Splendido giardino e autentica struttura tradizionale giapponese mantenuta molto bene.

Food was wonderful but many courses and very filling.
If any mobility issues, don't book Japanese style beds. Very hard for old folks to negotiate. Very accessible to Lake and activities. We had rain but still a pleasant day. Sadly, didn't manage to see Fuji.
Everything: good location, peaceful, clean, exceptional service, extra friendly staff and delicious food. Of course, the onsen facilities were excellent.
Rien goat tiers
Outstanding property and service. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable for the 1 night we were there. Highly recommend it for couples looking for a getaway to relax in the Hakone area. We had a room with a private Onsen, but also used the separate bookable Onsen hut on the grounds. They also have additional mens/women’s Onsen though they are open to everyone. The dinner was fantastic as well as breakfast the next morning. Staff helped us get our luggage forwarded back to Hakone-yumoto train station on our checkout day, and they even gave us a shuttle lift to Hakone shrine upon checkout to start our journey back/exploring. 5 stars! Cannot wait to return the next time we visit Japan! Shout out to Tet on the staff, as she was lovely and very helpful during our stay.
Nothing
Super Zen. Trully 5 stars in service, food, people and experience. Japanese culture is so unique!
That the trip was too short :(
Our stay at Yoshimatsu was truly phenomenal and one of the most memorable parts of our first trip to Japan. As our first ryokan experience, it completely exceeded expectations in every way. Our room was incredibly spacious, with comfortable western-style beds and a private onsen on the patio that felt magical. Between the peaceful setting, bamboo surroundings, and thoughtful details throughout the property (and Mt. Fuji views!), it somehow felt both like a world away and completely welcoming at the same time. The kaiseki meals were delicious and such a special experience beautifully presented, seasonal, and unlike anything we’ve had before. Most of all, the service was extraordinary. Sabina was an absolute dream, and every member of the staff made us feel genuinely cared for. They gave us helpful sightseeing recommendations, answered all of our questions kindly, and created an experience that felt deeply personal and unforgettable. If you are considering a ryokan stay in Hakone, especially for a first experience, I cannot recommend Yoshimatsu highly enough.
Yoshimatsu was an absolutely beautiful place to stay for a few days in the Hakone region. The ryokan has beautiful gardens, spacious rooms with separate bedroom. The staff are exceptional. This is a traditional ryokan so slippers to be used inside. Onsens are great with indoor and outdoor pools. The property was so quiet and peaceful. Perfect for decompressing after visiting busy cities. We would stay there again.
We purchased the half board option and were provided breakfast and dinner. Be aware the food is traditional Japanese food, many courses, served in our room - but you need to enjoy traditional food.
The room was spacious and clean. If you do
Loved everything in this place, beautiful place, very nice crew, excellent service and food
The resort was amazing, the onsan was beautiful and clean. The dinner was a unique experience of Japanese food.
Some western audiences may find the experience a bit intense, but in my opinion it is worth experiencing.
A delightful experience of Hakone and Japanese hospitality. Clean rooms, extremely kind and attentive staff. The views of mt. Fuji are to die for. Definitely would visit again.
Todo, una experiencia increíble en la suite.
Yoshimatsu was incredible. The staff is friendly, the grounds are immaculate, the food was amazing and there are two hot springs that feed the baths. The baths rotate during the day so you can try both. The breakfast and dinner are brought to your room and served in multiple courses. Traditional Japanese meals with local ingredients, presented with care. The garden includes a koi pond and a view of Mt. Fuji on a clear day. The rooms are quiet, and the bed is made for you on the tatami mat. There is tea in the room and a mini fridge with drinks. Hands down the best experience while visiting Japan was staying here.
Nothing
The room is gigantic and the largest that we ever stay in Japan. Dinner and breakfast are served in room and of very high quality. The staffs are very attentive. One day, it was raining a little when we walked back. The doorman ran to pass us the umbrellas. A very pleasant stay
I can see Mt Fuji did time in Japan, see the last minute sakura trees, the customer service was great and the onsen was great. My family liked the food. They book the taxi for you in advance.
How to get there, only 2 ways taxi or bus. Sometimes it sounds like someone is walking in the garden even though we were told not to, if they did they would have been able to come to our private onsen and as females it makes us feel unsafe.
Fantastiskt tradionellt ryokan! Rekommenderar verkligen!
Everything. First, Thank you very much to the amazing staff very helpful and patient. I spent only 1 night but it was very peaceful and I was feeling refreshed fot the rest of my trip. An authentic experience. I hope to come back one day in Hakone.
Nothing
There is a great onsen bath, one is shared and one is private, but the thing is everyone is rushing to get to the private one so the public one practically becomes only yours. I've visited the shared 4 times and every time I was alone. The room was spaceous, breakfast and dinner typical japanese with tons of fish, and abundant
They don't offer lanudry service. There is a coin wash down the street but the smallest load is intended for 8kg, which probably no tourist has that many clothes. Would be nice if they would offer to do a small load for you, There is like a 10-course dinner served in your room which is kinda fun, but I've also had better meals in random restaurants throughout Japan. They ask you if you want to add some drinks during dinner - for the price of the hotel I think it would be fair to include at least one drink as part of the offered menu. It's true what other reviews say, that the staff is very nice and jolly and attentive, but their English is limited so it not might have that much worth to you if you can't really converse. There are two shared baths, one for male one for female, they switch at 7pm. Would be nice to have two switches (for example a second switch at 7am) that way the same bath can be visited once in the morning once in the evening (I found one bath much prettier). All in all, it's quite an expensive ryokan, but you might not get that much out of it, for language barrier reasons, and also I've found japanese hosts being equally friendly and attentive, in way less expensive hotels
Very attentive staff. Clean room. Excellent dining experience.
It is very expensive, but it deserves the spending. Asked to have some more matcha which was offered at the checkin, but the staff refused by saying that extra tea (no matcha) was available in the room.
Stunning gardens and property. Extremely professional, courteous, and thoughtful staff who took care of us from start to finish of our stay. The spa facilities were clean, well furnished and aesthetic. The kaiseki meal blew us away, and breakfast the next day exceeded our expectations. We appreciated the hospitality and the support with our luggage and recommendations for our time in Hakone.

The rooms were very spacious. Staff was extraordinary friendly and service was excellent. Private onsen and public onsen were both super nice. The check-in and check-out was super smooth. Overall a wonderful experience!
The only thing that we didn't like that much was the food, which was maybe a bit too traditional or local-style for our taste. All the foods looked amazing and service was really good, but for us some the food was a bit too "japanese". However, it was a really nice experience!
The service is impeccable. The rooms are very elegant and sophisticated. The food was top quality. Will definitely come back!
The best experience in japan !!!!!An incredible location, a beautiful ryokan that truly reflects the essence of Japanese philosophy. The room felt like a dream, and everyone was always smiling and welcoming.
