It is a lovely place to stay in Hakone. It’s a bit up a hill and therefore you get great views - if the weather allows it you might be able to see Fuji from there). The onsen facilities were great and we even had a private onsen on the balcony which was amazing. Staff is so friendly and welcoming and both dinner and breakfast were superb!
Outstanding traditional ryokan. Brilliant location, parking. Helpful staff. The en-suite private onsen was excellent. We also had private family access to a public onsen. The traditional breakfasts were delicious and huge.
Nothing.
The rooms were very large and nicely decorated. We had a private outdoor bath which was amazing.
We booked too late to get dinner. Totally our fault. It would have been great with some info about local dinning options.
A perfect place to refresh and reenergize, providing the good balance of authenticity and comfort. We appreciate the 2-rooms suite with private onsen for our family, while enjoying also the additional public onsen.
Rien
Atmosfera indimenticabile, onsen privato e onsen familiare fantastici, pulizia impeccabile, accoglienza impeccabile.
This was probably the highlight of our trip. Everything was absolutely exceptional. From the moment we stepped in, it felt like a calm oasis. The hotel staff were so nice and friendly. Attention to details was amazing. Our room was great. The beds were really comfortable. We enjoyed the onsen in the evening and again in the morning. The food also was some of the best food I have ever had. This was truly a magical place I will remember forever!
In-house onsen, the staff were so nice and helpfull. Location is super if you want to go on the boat. Close to town and the 7/11 is also around the corner. And the breakfast is an great experience fully dressed in yukata if you want.
Walking up the The hill if you didnt inform the staff about your arrival :)
Incredible hospitality overall. They were very accommodating with the dietary restrictions of 2 members of my group. We absolutely loved the access to our private onsen, in addition to the public onsens on the property. The dinner and breakfasts were superb. A true kaiseki experience with several courses based on seasonal and local ingredients. It was one of the highlights!
There was not much we didn't like about this place.
Absolutely amazing experience. The room was huge. We felt like we were in our own japanese home. The beds were comfy and the food was delicious. The private hot spring was perfect and we spent most of our time enjoying it. So grateful for the staff and how kind and accommodating they were.
Beautiful exposure to Japanese culture. We enjoyed it very much. Onsen was great. Food was great. Staff very kind. Very clean. Great accommodation.
Rien
Amazing place attention to every detail, incredible privet onsen with EVERYTHING you need The beds were so comfortable, the staff was amazing. And the location in right in the harbor. Most restaurants close very early around there, so we found the 7/11 (2 min) a perfect place to grab a light dinner. It really is close to everything. Walking distance from the peace Tori gate
It’s a little high up but the have a shuttle service.

Truly memorable experience, a serene escape from the outside world, everything was perfect and we have deeply relaxed mid-way through our honeymoon.
Tudo!
Super nice hosts, traditional room atmosphere, fantatstic food (special) and very nice onsen (private and also the "public" onsen is private. Convenient location and great experience in Ryokan type (though modern) location.
Traditional ryokan close to Motohakone port/bus stop. Our family room had a private onsen and we also had access to the two public onsens. We were given yakatas to wear around the property and pajamas to sleep in. They also provided face masks to use daily after going in the onsen. The staff were very friendly.
amazing facilities and staff was kind
nothing
Breakfast and dinners were excellent. So much delicious wonderful food. Private onsen was like heaven. Very nice, relatxing stay overall. Staff was wonderful.
My husband needed a little more padding to sleep on and head support for pillow. He preferred sitting with feet below in the small table (he is not as physically flexible).
The onsen was amazing and the location was very convenient. The place had an amazing ryokan vibe and the staff was very friendly
Beautiful spot in Hakone. The ambiance was traditional but still modernized. Plenty of space in the room. Public onsen was readily available. Felt amazing. The dinner and breakfast was delicious. Staff is very helpful and extremely kind.
Kedves, udvarias, előzékeny személyzet, professzionális kiszolgálás. Remek ételek. Remek elhelyezkedés, szép kilátás a természetre.
Nincs ilyen.
The service was incredible. It was unlike anything I've ever experienced before. The staff helped us with every single request. I have traveled all over Japan and staying at Fukuya is now a must do for every trip.
I guess it's a little hard to get to if you're a larger group with luggage. You either got to take a bus or get taxis. No real complaints though.
Wonderful welcome and cozy stay. This is a traditional Ryokan, the room is very spacious . We did ask multiple times to get assigned a specific room and finally they did but be careful as the price is the same but some rooms do not have a nice outside onsen but just a tub
Quite overpriced , I get the onsen and the traditional meal but still I think it is a bit exaggerated for the quality
Great small apartment, clean and cozy
A bit far from metro and tourist areas
Tout
Rien
Excellent location as you can walk to a few stores and restaurants near the lake. It does have a steep driveway, but they will send someone to come and pick you up after you arrive at Motohakone.
There is one large evergreen tree that is blocking the view of Mt Fuji, but we were thrilled to have a clear sky so we could see the mountain.
We had an amazing experience at Hananoyado! We were greeted at the door and provided welcome drinks with a serene vie out the large windows facing Lake Ashi. Even though my Japanese was limited, our hosts were able to effectively communicate with us throughout the day. The room was spacious and our private onsen was a delight! The highlight of our stay was the incredible kaiseki meal. Unfortunately, I do not recall the name of the woman who took care of us. Her English language skills were fantastic. She patiently helped my spouse tie her Yukata robe correctly and she described every plate of the meal in exquisite detail. We appreciated her so much! We were stuffed by about halfway through the servings but soldiered on to finish everything. It was really the highlight of our stay in Japan!
If I had to fault anything, it would be the cost of the stay. However, their pricing is competitive with most Ryokan offering half board meals around Hakone.
Yes the hotel is not bad, well located near the cruise - walkable but steep hill to walk - difficult with luggages. The private Onsen is mixed and not bad. The front desk male receptionist was always helpful to drop us off with his van.
The female host was very unpleasant and forceful, eg. knocking our door 5 and 1 min before check out time - we were right on time!! It’s okay when she’s a little late to take us ro breakfast - and that’s just one example … To our biggest surprise - NO DINNER was provided like you would expect with an Onsen hotel. So we had to pay for taxi to find food elsewhere. Taking that into consideration, it’s very pricey!! The idea of their semi open bath in room is just a just a bathtub; misled by photo.
My room was spacious and comfortable. It had a great bathroom with a bath inside. The toilet opens up when I walk in and is a heated bidet. I had coffee and nice tea included. The fridge was full of bottled sodas, teas, and beers that were included. There was a kotatsu with space underneath for my legs, so I could sit in a normal seated position instead of cross-legged. The food there was an omakase serving every day. The meals were very fancy and on par with what I have had in nice restaurants. I was served breakfast and dinner in a way that made me feel like royalty. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. They answered all of my questions and did their best to accommodate my requests (laundry and late-night sake). I got a 2 hour massage there. It was somewhat pricey, about $120. The massage was not strong, but incredibly relaxing. I also had an MCL injury and it made my knee feel loads better after the massage. The private onsen was worth every penny. There is a back patio with a shower outside, and the onsen is spacious and comfortable. It can definitely fit 2 people. I used it during a rainstorm and it was divine.
Just the price. I booked the last room during early April, which is peak season. It was $750 a night for a room with a private onse. The price is usually $400-$500. Also, the bath in my bathroom had leaks in it, resulting in it not filling all the way. The leaks did NOT cause my bathroom to overflow, just for the tub not to fill. Not a huge issue since I had a private onsen, but I wanted to have a cold tub.
Quiet, clean, excellent service and location. Food was amazing.
Absolutely wonderful experience. Perfect meals, welcoming staff. Fantastic location right near the lake, but not loud at all. Porch onsen was great.
Everything was perfect, stunning and delicious. Congratulations to the staff and special mention for the chef and its incredible dinner and breakfast. Onsen are simply fantastic.
Everything about this place is a delight from the service, accommodations, onsen, location and the food! This was a bit of a sludge for us but so worth it for the life experience. I highly suggest just doing it and savor the experience.
Not a thing.
Beautiful, peaceful, great location, wonderful hot springs, amazing staff
TOUT
It is a nice traditional ryokan located near the southern port of lake ashi. The rooms are very nice and clean. The kitatsu is a great touch. The food was ok but not the highlight. The staff are very kind and helpful.
The menu served was well made and some of it was delicious. But there were some dishes that were not great. The price as well is very high for what you get.
The staff were incredibly attentive and kind. The ryokan itself was stunning and super comfortable. There was lots of food and it was very tasty! We had terrible weather during our stay but did not mind at all, since we got to enjoy the thermal baths and warm up in the kotatsu. Honestly wished we would have stayed here more days. This is the only hotel in my visit to Japan that i would return to instead of visiting a new place, that is how much i loved it here.
If i had to pick something, it would be that the hotel is on a steep hill, so trips back and forth from town are not super easy if you are doing that constantly. But it should not be a problem for the vast mayority of people, and the calm and quiet location make it totally worth it.
The ryokan gives you a flavor of a very authentic stay with very comfortable mattresses, blankets and pillows. The breakfast is delicious and very beautifully served!
If you expect the view like on the picture you will not get it from any room or onsen of the hotel. It is blocked by the very high trees on the main road and high railings on the hotel balconies. For the view you have to go outside and down to the lake shore which would take about 3 min. So, overall location is good but enjoying the onsen with the view is not the case for this ryokan that is why $900 that I paid per night I find overpriced.
It was in a beautiful area. The hot springs were nice, and the food was amazing.
None
This place was beautiful inside and out with gorgoues outdoor views from our room! I booked the larger room with the private outdoor onsen for myself and my husband and it was perfect. The staff were very helpful and attentive as well. We got the traditional breakfest and dinner for both nights we stayed and it was yummy and an awesome experience within itself!
Everything! The warm welcome, the relaxing atmosphere, the beautiful surroundings, delicious breakfast and attention to detail. The private onsen.
Nothing not to like!
The welcoming with matcha tea.
Incredible sleeping accommodations, private onsen, and excellent service. The meals were also exceptional.
Nothing
They were incredibly accommodating! The best hotel experience I’ve ever had
Nothing! Everything was great!
Wonderful and relaxing. Loved the onsen. Good food and staff very helpful.
Absolument rien !
The room was amazing. I loved the private outdoor bath and the meal we ordered was delicious!
Nothing, it was all good!
Beautiful and convenient location. To die for onsen and service. My partner and I had such a lovely time. The snowstorm that blew in the weekend we were there hampered our plans for the Hakone loop, but it was just so beautiful we didn't mind just staying in and relaxing. Highly recommended.
The dinner was fantastic
Hananoyado is peacefully located away from the busy town but close to beautiful temples, which made it feel relaxing and authentic. I absolutely loved our stay and brought my adult kids so they could experience an onsen for the first time — they loved it! It was something completely different for them, but such a memorable and special experience for our family. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional Japanese stay.
Dinners and breakfasts were amazing! Delicious delicacies that were so thoughtfully prepared and presented. Their service is incredible and exceeded all expectations.
Nothing! It was a marvelous experience. They were so helpful in accommodating our desire for an early morning walk to see Mt. Fuji before breakfast.
Dinner and breakfast were awesome. Private onsen was good. The staff was very courteous and respectful. Just a few added amenities would have taken this stay from mediocre to great.
Besides drinks, a few snacks would have been nice. Did not realize a futon in Japan is a thin mattress on the floor. Definitely not a good stay for someone 65 years or older. No chairs to sit on - everything is on the floor. Very hard to relax. A small place outside with some chairs to have some drinks and relax, enjoy nature, would have made a world of difference. The private shower was a handheld attachment to the wall. I realize the point is to maintain and experience Japanese tradition, but having some western amenities would be wise in my opinion.
