Sauna gedeelte is vergane glorie. De massage was fantastisch
A beautiful hybrid stay of traditional touches, Japanese hospitality and resort like facilities. Greeted at the carpark and taken to a beautifully appointed Japanese room. We made good use of the outdoor pool with a bar where you can order drinks and snacks as well as booked a couples massage which we found super relaxing and remedial. After the turn down service they refreshed the complimentary mini bar as well as giving a new snack each afternoon. The room was spacious and had a cute little soaking tub in the room. The location might be a problem for some as it’s a bit further out of town but we had a car so everything we wanted to see was within a 15 min drive of the hotel. Staff were so all so lovely and accommodating and as always we rudely can’t speak any Japanese and everyone did their best to communicate.
Nothing major! Dropping the room keys off everytime you leave felt a bit unnecessary but literally also took an extra 5 seconds each way.
Sehr schöner Pool draußen in sehr schöner Gartenanlage. Sehr freundliches Personal.
Incredibly comfortable with very accomodating staff. The complementary drinks and snacks were also a lovely addition to the stay. The property itself has a wonderful charm, it’s very beautiful.
Perfect place to relax. The place itself and the surroundings are perfect. The room was huge with tatami floors, living room, dining room and private bath inside and outside. The staff was amazingly nice and polite. The swimming pool was marvellous. Loved the experience and would go back in a heartbeat.
Très bel hôtel dans un cadre magnifique!

This is a very traditional hotel so if you're not Japanese, don't stay here unless you're prepared to conform to the traditions and at least learn a little bit of basic Japanese when speaking to staff. The hotel itself had amazing spa facilities that we made use of throughout our stay with no trouble at all. Experiencing an authentic onsen is certainly not for everyone but we really enjoyed it at this hotel.
There was no option to book Dinner or Breakfast via booking.com. We attempted to book this a week before our stay but unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked for our first two nights and the prices offered for booking dinner on the final night (as they had space in the restaurant) was very expensive. Fortunately the hotel receptionist on our first night offered to book us a table at a restaurant in Shimoda as well as book us a taxi there. The local train runs until around 10pm so eating out in the town was fairly straightforward each evening.
Great services. Super nice staff that helped us with a problem we had and helped communicate. Close to many areas to visit. Recommended
I really liked the room, the size, all of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. We loved our bathroom area with the private hot tub. The room was overall very comfortable, with the size, the coffee & tea maker, and the fridge was great. The hotel and the grounds were also beautiful.
I do have tattoos, and nowhere on the website does it say they don't allow tattoos in their onsens. I tried using some sticker thing, that did not work. Also, nowhere on our booking does it say we have to pre-book at the restaurant, or give us a warning that if we don't book ahead we can't eat there for any meals. We had to eat most meals at a 7-11, which was okay, but would have loved to try the meals there. We were hoping the outdoor pool would be heated enough to enjoy, but it was quite cold. Also, the beds weren't very comfortable.
It's a wonderful spa resort boasting a full-sized swimming pool, wood-fired sauna, as well as public indoor baths and private outdoor baths. My room was clean, spacious, and comfortable with a great view. The hotel provides a free shuttle service to the train station in the morning, which was very helpful.
The neighbourhood itself is mostly residential, and there aren't any shops or restaurants nearby. So, a stay here is all about escaping from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and not about exploring local sights.
Seiryu-so exceeded our expectations. The rooms were spacious, facilities were clean, and the Onsen was a great first time experience. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
The staff and the property were incredible. Both onsen rooms, steam room, wood burning sauna, and low temp sauna were incredible. Being in the Izu Peninsula is an incredible experience that was amplified by staying here. Highly recommend.
We loved our stay at Seiryu-so! It felt like we had gone to a resort given all the amenities! The room was also very large and comfortable. The hotel is also quite accessible, being less than a 10 minute drive from restaurants / convenience stores.

Fantastic traditional ryokan near Shimoda! If you want to experience traditional Japanese ryokan vibes, this place is for you. Would definitely stay here again. I loved my stay - so calm and peaceful. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. It has a lovely onsen (both for women and men) which is open late at night, a huge pool which is great for families. The room was extremely neat, and the interior was designed in a traditional Japanese style. The WC was in the room and public showers in onsen, as well as one private onsen with a shower that can be used at night for free (everything super neat). Just keep in mind that this ryokan is slightly out of Shimoda - if you are travelling from Shimoda you have to take a taxi from the train station (around EUR 8-9 one way) or rent a bike. There are some local buses that go to Rendaiji as well. They have a couple of e-bikes on site for rent, however, as I understood, there is a regulation (applied everywhere) that you have to come back with a bike by 5 pm. Rendaiji train station is around 10 min away on foot, or they organise shuttles - thus a great location if you want to explore Izu peninsula more. Note that if you do not take dinner on site, there are not many dinner options nearby, you either have to go to Shimoda or to 7/11 (around 10 min on foot from the property).
Not the hotel's fault, but I booked a massage, and it was of very poor quality and quite pricey.
lovely staff and awesome Onsen
nothing to mention
The staff was phenomenal. They help you bring in your luggage when checking in and carry your luggage out when checking out. They offer a shuttle service on the day of your check-out either to Rendaiji station or to Shimoda station. Even if you don't take the shuttle service, it's about a 10-minute walk from Rendaiji station, so it's not too bad. Each day of my stay, staff at the front desk would also give us little snacks each time we returned to the inn. It was cute and frankly quite nice. When leaving for the day to visit places like Shimoda, Kawazu, or other areas, you need to turn your key in at the front desk so that they can keep track of when you leave and return for the day. They also said it's so guests don't lose their room key while out and about, which makes 100% sense. The onsens were soothing and healing. I unfortunately didn't pack a swimsuit, so I couldn't use the garden area, which had a swimming pool and multiple saunas, but that's not something that worried me too much. I did hear from other guests that the pools were heated, which I find to be a good thing in case you have kids that wanna swim in the pool during winter.
I didn't understand how breakfast and dinner worked at this place. I was pretty sure I booked my stay to have breakfast and dinner, but the staff had kept telling me that both were already fully booked and they kept apologizing, saying that I couldn't have breakfast or dinner. I ultimately ended up eating convenient store food for breakfast and dinner a majority of the time with my friends, which wasn't too pleasing. Another other downside was that there's no laundry, so make sure to either pack enough clothes, or do laundry before arriving. There is coin laundry services, but they're about 15-20 minutes away by walking, so it's a bit hard and uncomfortable to do travel just to clean your clothes. Finally, not relating to the inn, but everything around it closes around 7 p.m, so if you're out late and want to eat dinner, you're either going to need an early dinner or eat somewhere else before returning (unless you do somehow get the dinner plan at the inn).
Amazing and beautiful property, without a doubt I am staying here again. The staff are so generous and accommodating and the property is beautiful and conveniently located
The staff was welcoming and helpful. The room was nice, clean, and spacious. The pools and onsens were very nice and well maintained.
This was a fairly, though not overly traditional ryokan that has exceptional pool, sauna and onsen facilities. Considering the price, you get way more than you pay for. The staff are extremely courteous and attentive.
Didn't actively dislike anything.
Loved having a deep tub and a sitting room in our room. Staff were very helpful and one of the staff members spoke good English and was able to help us when our Japanese wasn't getting there haha! Pool and sauna were exceptional!
Beautiful ryokan in the small town of Shimoda. The pool, sauna, and onsen were so worth it and made our stay extremely relaxing.
We discovered that breakfast and dinner were a part of the experience at the ryokan. We inquired if we could have for the following night of our two night stay but they said we had to book these experiences in advance. Totally understand but a little more flexibility could be nice!
The pool, sauna, and onsen facilities were amazing. Rooms were nice and in Japanese style.
The wing we were in was a bit tired. The hotel did not provide many food and beverage services and there was not much in walking distance.
Amazing hotel, the staff is so nice and caring. All the spa facilities are just stunning. We had a wonderful time!
Clean & Beautiful!
a traditional ryokan which ticked all the boxes.
They wouldn't let us order dinner even though we requested it weeks ahead . i guess they have experience of their traditional food not appealing to Western tastes.
NIce Onsen-Weekend
all good
From the moment we arrived, we realized this place was better than what we had expected from the photos. It felt very old-world Japan. It was dignified, polite, sprawling, and comfortable. The onsen were excellent, the gardens were nice to walk through, and staff were very courteous and helpful. We hope to go back.
The bathroom was a bit cold, but we were there in February, and we understand that is normal for Japan... Actually, speaking of the bathroom, the room we had had a bathtub that received hot spring water, which was pretty amazing.
This felt like a very traditional Japanese experience without being intimidating. The facilities were excellent and although it was winter, we made use of everything including the outside pool.
We had a room only package and food was not included. We did ask if we could add food, however they appeared to be at capacity for food servings so it could not be included. It would have been nice to include food to add to the experience, however it did not detract from the overall enjoyment as we found great restaurants in Shimoda town.
The setting was so beautiful and peaceful. The room was spacious and the staff was very welcoming and helpful.

The indoor/outdoor private bath was absolutely amazing.
Nothing
This was our first ryokan, and Seiryu-So blew our minds. What a beautiful place. We spent 5 nights, and enjoyed every minte (especially the minutes spent in the onsen!) Thank you for your hospitality, we had an amazing time here.

Our stay was fantastic! The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, making us feel right at home. Our room was huge, complete with our very own private onsen, and the facilities truly left us impressed. We couldn't get enough of the Finnish sauna! We'll be back for another visit.
Nothing at all, everything was truly amazing! We only wish we had opted for a meal-inclusive plan, but it looks like you can only do that by booking directly through their website.
Very nice place, pool and onsen. The Staffel is very friendly.
This is a beautiful hotel, I had an awesome, super large room with a private bath that I used daily. My room had a river view with tranquil flowing water sounds and forested hills, very beautiful. The staff were super nice and friendly. Tons of spa and pool facilities. Super close to rendaiji station.
Tattoos not allowed in public areas which is no problem if you have a private bath.
the onsen was lovely - for anyone who doesn’t speak Japanese please note that the beds are. futon and you have to shower in communal showers.
the onsen had mould, the rooms were a bit run down… better care of the facilities would be great but the authentic Japanese feel was great.
We stay for three nites. Hotel will not accommodate for any booking of meals if you did not do pre booking, which I personally think is too strictly.
Everything! Location- easy to find, close to town centre of Shimoda (we were driving) Facilities- it has indoor onsen/public baths , both open and closed. I enjoyed viewing the full cherry blossom tree from the indoor open bath which was a bonus. There’re also outdoor swimming spa and sauna which we didn’t get to use, but they look amazing. Rooms - we stayed at the first floor ryokan. the room was immaculately housekept, has a private bath in the bathroom. Very clean. Housekeeping was excellent, providing the usual excellent Japanese hospitality. Staff - very courteous and making their effort to help even though they speak minimum English.
nothing
very traditional ryokan but with clothed bathing area
nudity still required in the other baths, very limited English with the staff, the booking did not include meals ( we found out at the property) they did arrange some sushi
