Whitianga Motel

Location is quite good. Close enough to be able to walk to all you need. But I guess it might be quite noisy in peak season.

Everything in the unit is very dated. Okay if you don’t mind hearing everything from your neighbour unit or outside and a 70s feel. Being told after you’ve paid that some of your payment is being given to a charity of the owners choice. All well and good but your clients might feel they want to be asked first.

Multiple beds. Separate room. Curtains to block off the other sleeping are. Location.

Location. It was clean and the owner was really friendly.

You could hear the upstairs TV really clearly from our room and it was a bit annoying late at night when we were trying to sleep. There were very few PowerPoints and they weren’t in very convenient spots.

The location of the motel is excellent - the main street is just a block away and a cut-through at the back of the motel goes through to the wharf and various bars and restaurants. The managers were friendly, efficient and helpful. The unit was equipped with everything we needed and the folder of information was especially good.

We were expecting two beds in one bedroom but the second bed was in the living area, which was a little cramped. Because we were in the front unit we got a bit of road noise (loud motorbikes especially), though there's nothing the managers can really do to fix this. We were glad we'd been warned about the loud fire siren - again, this is beyond the ability of the managers to fix. This is an older motel so the parking spaces aren't built for some of today's enormous vehicles and when one of these parked outside the next-door unit it affected the room we had to sit outside.

Great location, close to beach, shops, restaurants, cafes. Accommodation is old schooled but has everything you need! Clean, comfy, kitchen, bathroom, TV, heaters, parking. Great value for money and highly recommended. Also, it was no problem to arrive (too)early and enjoy the day which was much appreciated :)

6 stars if I could! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This is by far the best accommodation we’ve had in New Zealand. The host is incredibly generous and welcoming – gave us great local tips and made sure we had everything we needed. The place itself is fully equipped with all amenities: a well-stocked kitchen, heater, super fast WiFi, and even extra treats. Everything was spotless and cozy. Great location too – quiet but close to everything.We truly felt at home here. Highly recommend to anyone visiting NZ – we’ll definitely be back. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Fantastic host. Close to town and very quiet

Location was great

Shower was old, touchy as and had spiderwebs overhead. Some windows couldn't close. Pot lids from previous guests were filthy. We stayed multiple nights and expected towels to be changed etc but towels were just left outside our door and felt damp when we arrived back.

Amazing staff - extremely helpful, even with my confusing requests haha! Everything exactly as it was advertised & the location is absolutely perfect - close to everything!!!! Great stay!! We will definitely be back when we are in town next. Thankyou!!!!

Very old motel, tired and in need of modernization

Less than a minute walk to some eateries and the river with playground, a few minutes' walk to the beach and main town. Roomy unit, thoughtful extras, easy parking, friendly cleaning staff.

Could possibly have had better lighting in the bathroom but not a big deal.

This will be our first choice next time we come back to Whitianga!

Well located, close to the town Centre, shops, beach and passenger ferry

Great location. Walking distance to tavern, cafe's, Wharf, beach, shops, walking path. Older accommodation but clean and functional.

Good price for five people. Two rooms. They changed my stay date at no extra charge. Very good communications. Overall, it was a very nice stay.

Overall, the motel is quite old. This is reflected in the price.

This motel is pretty old-school so don't book it if you expect something fancy and modern. But if you're looking for somewhere comfortable and friendly in a good spot, this is it. It's maybe 2 minutes' walk to the beach and less than 5 minutes to the main shopping strip. It was also quite spacious - I've lived in smaller one-bedroom apartments before! My interaction with staff and other guests was great (but if you check your phone in advance of arriving you may not even need to interact with staff - I missed a text giving me details for self-check-in, and the staff member I dealt with was very nice about it!). There's a real personal touch - I loved that the binder of advice about the local area gave personal opinions and suggestions about what to order at each place. Plus they have arrangements with some local venues so that motel guests get a discount.

There aren't many power points, so if you need to charge a lot of devices BYO power board

L'emplacement très calme et l'extrème propreté des lieux. Ross le propriétaire nous a proposé d'arriver avant si nous le souhaitions. Gîte très bien équipé bénéficiant de 2 chambres. Nous avons pu faire une balade au bord de l'eau au clair de lune sans aucun problème

L'ensemble est un peu désuet mais celà ne nuit en rien au confort du gître

Ameisenproblem, konnte aber gelöst werden. Mit Spray.

Die Unterkunft war zweckmäßig und mit allem Notwendigen eingerichtet. Ebenso die gute, fußläufig Lage zum Hafen und zum Strand sowieso zur „City“ ist zu erwähnen. Dadurch, dass unser Zimmer gegenüber den anderen Unterkünften etwas zurückgesetzt war, war es sehr dunkel. Durch die gedrängte Stellplatzsituation vor den Unterkünften war das Sitzen vor dem Zimmer für uns auch nicht schön. Aber hey, dafür geht man zum Irish Pub, dort gibt’s mit der MemberCard auf alles 10%. 😉

Die Anlage ist in die Jahre gekommen.

Location is fantastic, short walk to restaurants and bars and the shops, plus the beach is a 2 min walk away.

Bed was not comfortable and pillows were too soft and thin.

Great staff to deal with. Free laundry facilities and the kind use of a shovel for Hot Water Beach. The motel is old but has been renovated well to have fresh appeal.

Close to beach and town. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Private clothes line. Back gate leads to beach road. Everything I needed.

The step up into the shower was a bit tricky but manageable.

A bit dated

As it was our first visit to New Zealand, and our first stop, it was great. Check in was easy, once I checked my email, and the location was perfect. Quiet area and walking distance to all we needed, as well as central for our exploration of the area. The room was lovely and had all we needed for our stay. Thank you so much 😊

There were a few chilly days and I couldn’t work the heater, an extra blanket did the job.

A clothes dryer would have been good as we had 2days of rainand it wasn't easy to get washing dry.

Loved it. It was close to the water and it was close to town. Restaurants were right behind the resort. It was a perfect place to be for three nights. A note on shelling it was amazing to shell on the beach.

We were only there for one night , very comfortable stay . Communication for arrival was great .

Everything was great. Location right next to restaurants/coffee shops and waterfront. Easy parking. Host was excellent at communicating prior to my arrival kindly answering all my questions.

Staying here is like travelling back in time, retro but well maintained, all the facilities you need and Joyce was wonderful. The owners Ross and Sue are extremely helpful and gave us plenty of information and guidance prior to our arrival. Location was perfect and we could not have been happier with our choice.

A lovely room with nice furnishings. There is no AC, but the ceiling fan and open windows did a great job cooling the room.

I’m sure the neighborhood was very safe, but it was a tad nerve wracking that there were no screens on any windows, and we had to have the window open right next to the door (which someone could have just reached in and unlocked). Probably irrational, but the lack of screens seemed odd.

Lovely location

We were visiting here from Canada. When we travel we prefer a motel like environment for it's easy access to outside. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The well equipped kitchenette worked perfectly for us. We had the misfortune of monsoon-like weather so we didn't get to explore this very beautiful town as we would have wished. However, Ross took very good care of us. We would highly recommend giving The Whitianga Motel an opportunity to provide you with a high level of comfort. Thanks.

On the other side of Whitianga wharf. Perfect location. There is a mini oven in the kitchen.

Hosts communicated details well and were responsive. Walking distance to shops, marinas and beach. Large Woolworths as you head into town.

Not a problem, but note there is no smart TV and shops close at 5pm (except food providers).

A very comfortable night, clean and quiet. We enjoyed chatting with the owners who were keen to make our stay enjoyable.

We had trouble with the TV but were happy to flag it and read a book instead. Instructions could perhaps be fuller for people who aren't familiar with two remotes.

The motel has a great retro feel about it. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Kitchen well equiped.We were only there a couple of days but would of happliy stayed longer. Fantastic location.

Awesome location and hosts.

Great location in the centre of town. Very close to shops and the ferry. The hosts were very welcoming and made some good suggestions for dinner and places to visit. The unit had new curtains and was of a good size. In the separate bedroom was a double bed and a single bed. In the lounge were two more single beds and a curtain to pull across to form a room. A good configuration for a family with children. Behind the motel was a nice lawned area with outdoor seating for guests use. Overall, good value for a family holidaying on a budget.

This is a small motel of just five units. Units 4 & 5 have part of the owners accommodation above and they could be heard moving about above us. The unit was very dated with old kitchen cabinets and bathroom fixtures. The double bed could benefit from a new mattress. One of the two bathroom windows had a broken catch and could not be closed. The main areas of the unit were clean, but skirting boards and window frames needed a thorough clean.
