Morning balcony visits from the dog!

Location, Facilities, Easy check in/ out, beautiful view.
Cute cottage. Nice for couples.
Very small and very tight for space for a family of 4 with 5 suitcases. Nowhere to put your luggage and the staircase is very narrow and steep. Not very practical with young children especially if they need to go to the toilet at night!
Amazing location and warm atmosphere
Easy check in process, close to Franz Joseph, lovely outlook and feel.
Stairs up to bedrooms were tight and steep for the kids, bathroom door didn’t close
Location, Facilities, Ambiance etc. Meticulously designed and passionately managed for guests’ comfort. Simply Amazing! Kudos to Danny & Judith!! Looking forward to visiting again.

Thank you so much. Everything was amazing. We had such a lovely weekend. Sauna and hot tub was a great bonus 👍 we wll bake one day
Quiet, beautiful grounds, beautiful views of the mountains. Close to town (5-6 minutes drive).
Not so much a "didn't like" as a heads up: the stairs in the chalet are quite narrow. If you're not good with stairs, this isn't the place for you.
Wonderful little Retreat, lovely countryside area. Well thought through cosy house! Loved it there, will def come back again as we only stayed for a night.
Shower head was a bit low for us our height, but other then that everything great!
This was our second time staying here and it’s just perfect. We love how unique and well thought out the places are. The spa and sauna are a great addition too. Will definitely recommend and we will stay here again! 😊
Loved the set up - very thoughtful and user friendly.
Nothing!
Lovely location, beautiful facilities, stunningly furnished. Heating on when we arrived. Loved the outdoor undercover area as it thunderstormed the night we were there. Everything just perfect 👌

Private, quiet and in a beautiful location.
The internal chalet stairs were very steep

This is one of the worst accommodation I have ever booked. There was no electricity and water supply. I knew that might be due to weather issue, but there was NO update until we checked in at night, which we could have found another apartment earlier. On top of that, even when we have arrived, we tried different method to find the host, but there was no reply for 20 hours. They gave a phone number which was completely useless as no one would pick up it. They failed to provide any comfortable accommodation until the next day, but not willing to make any solution. Do reconsider if you are going to make a booking to this horrible place.
Beautiful property, scenery and location
Amazing little cabin, good aspect, captured the reteeat element of going to west coast. Will certainly book again
My mistake really: I am over 6 foot, so (repeatedly) hit my head in attic-bedroom sloped ceiling. Book one of the larger cottages if you are tall. Still an amazing place.
It was clean, warm, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Great communication from hosts. We would stay again and recommend to friends and family.
Nothing - it was great!
The location, decor and cosiness and the family feel we had here.
Nothing
I liked the sauna and the spa facilities and the fact that you get the whole hut to yourself.
The shower pressure was very poor, hard to wash your hair and the temperature was unstable. There was no microwave or dining table inside, you expect this when you get a whole house. You only got the one set of towels regardless of how many nights your staying, there should be extras available when using the sauna/spa. You also didn't get refills on tea/coffee like you do in a hotel which was dissapointing. There was no contain with the owners, only the self check in, and I tried messaging through bookings about the laundry service but never got a response. There also wasn't curtains on the back door, so anyone could walk past and see in, which didn't feel very private.
We loved the privacy, and a bonus having a spa, and sauna ( not used tho). So peaceful, and close enough to the town for supplies
The ceiling upstairs as we kept bumping our head
Kahere Retreat was a wonderful stay for us. Very peaceful and tranquil. The owners were very accommodating and quick to reply to any questions. A short 5 minute drive into Franz Josef township. Would happily recommend to friends and family and stay here again in the future.
A very cosy retreat! Amazing views & awesome hot tub in the garden.
The unit was warm and comfortable.
The stairs were steep for a 79 year old.
Great location
We loved everything about the property and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful
Check in was very well explained; accommodation was warm, welcoming and thoughtfully presented.
Easy to find, comfortable beds and all the essentials in the kitchen.
Super chalet très bien équipé, calme et très cosy.l'espace sauna jacuzzi est super.
A quaint chalet on a quiet, private property. Lovely sauna and spa. Stairs were a challenge with suitcases.
Stairs were a challenge with luggage - very steep. Very small living area and bedrooms separated by a door that didn't extend to the ceiling, so not private. Communication was slow as had to follow up request to extend stay.
Location beautiful, everything there needed.
Stairs were a bit tricky, the sloping roof quite low in bedrooms for my husband as he is quite tall.
Location was great if you have a car. The surrounds are lovely. The sauna and spa were an added bonus the kitchen and lounge facilities were good although a small table would be good to eat at rather than 2 couches
The stairs are steep and somewhat dangerous. It would be good to be able to completely shut the doors between the two doors for privacy.
Lovely cabin. Comfy beds. Close to nearby Franz Josef centre. Easy check in and check out. Super quiet.
No complaints.
It was so cute and tucked away. Clean and comfortable.
Hard to get luggage upstairs. Very narrow stairs and prob too small for 3 adults
Peaceful location
Leaving
Beautiful place. Nice hot tub.
The stairs up to the bedroom.
The location to Franz Joseph glacier was fantastic. Each individual chalet was located to ensure privacy . Easy to gain entry to the chalet .
We LOVED this place, it was an absolute highlight of the trip. The cosy cottage was perfect for exploring the surrounding areas and we really enjoyed the bonus of a sauna after a long day in the cold. The beds were comfy and it was fun sleeping together in the attic. The bathroom was really something else and merits its own review, the decor being beautiful. We would definitely stay again if we get the chance.
The spa could have been a little bit warmer but honestly, this place is the BEST!!
Warm after turning on heat pump
No door on bedroom
Our booking at Kahere Retreat in Franz Josef was confirmed back in January for our April 2 stay, and we paid the full amount in March. However, just one day before arrival — while we were already traveling with kids — we received a message that the property was overbooked and our booking had been canceled. This was a very stressful and disappointing situation, especially as we were already approaching Franz Josef. Judith, the host, was apologetic and explained that the issue occurred due to a scheduling error in their booking planner. She offered a refund or suggested an alternative place nearby, but that option wasn’t to our taste. We ourselves found another suitable accommodation, and Judith kindly helped finalize the booking and adjust our payment so that it matched our original amount. While we appreciate her assistance and understanding, the last-minute cancellation was highly inconvenient and unprofessional, particularly when traveling with children. It caused unnecessary stress and could have been much worse if we hadn’t found another place in time. Hopefully, this kind of booking issue is resolved for future guests.
The outdoors was nice. There was a lovely hot tub; Nice table outdoors only to eat (if it is not too cold)
This was the worst place to stay (in our 2 month trip to New Zealand) and we left after 2 nights (although had booked 4). Not sure who created the term 2 bedroom chalet. Yes there were 2 bedrooms up some very very steep windy stairs. Could barely stand in the tiny bedrooms; hit our heads on the sloped ceiling. No closet space or outlets upstairs so even if you wanted to take your luggage up, forget it. The first level was small, had 2 loveseats. There were no closets, hooks or drawers to put anything. The kitchen area did have utensils etc but there was no table inside to eat on. While there was a nice outside table in the back overlooking the garden as well as a picnic table out front, who wants to have breakfast there when it is so cold outside? The bathroom is downstairs so if you get up at night, must be careful not to bump your head or fall down the creaky, windy, steep staircase. There was not any storage space in the bathroom either or space next to the sink. Why put the towels upstairs when the bathroom is downstairs? The fan in the bathroom was so dusty and looked like it had not been cleaned in years. The indoors was cramped, uncomfortable. Not sure how the cabin got such good reviews. Whoever, created this space has never been a traveler before. Needless to say, we were so disappointed and when we noted our early departure, the owner had some blasé comments. They were not responsive when I had called them on our arrival to ask a question either.
The sauna and spa area - a great addition to teh place
Great view of Franz Joseph glacier from our unit. Great concept but for us lacked execution
Wouldn’t recommend if you’re tall or have mobility problems. (Like us) Ceiling rake in bedroom meant we kept hitting our heads on ceiling and couldn’t read in bed. Mattress and pillows were overdue to be replaced. Stairs were narrow and steep especially if you’re wearing sox because the owners requested no shoes in unit. No space to put luggage (too hard to take upstairs) Lounge was comfortable but too low and hard for us to get out of. Fridge was too small No microwave Shower rose was too low ( yes I’m 182cm tall) Blow heater??? on the bathroom wall didn’t blow warm/hot air. Bathroom exhaust fan sounded like a tractor Needs a step from front patio to the ground (if you have mobility problems)
We loved the peaceful retreat you have created at Kahere. The sauna and hottub were such a nice touch.
Cute little cabins and quiet peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed our night stay. The beds were comfy. Also enjoyed the spa.
Loved the slide open doors in back.
Beds are upstairs, toilet is downstairs. Unpleasant stairs in between.
Quiet and nice views. Nice balcony and covered exterior area at the back. Good parking. Never saw the owners but all instructions were clear
Stairs to bedroom were narrow and very steep. Bathroom was downstairs so had to be careful going to the toilet at night. Lounge area inside was small
Rustic charm, good size bathroom
No TV, no microwave,
Very cute little chalet just outside of Franz Josef. Decently convenient to town but also peaceful. Comfortable enough and well laid out.
We had a few minor issues with the property. First, many people mention the stairs which are a bit precarious. I do think just installing a night light would go a long way, especially for anyone who needs to use the loo at night. We also found the shower style a bit uncomfortable on the feet with sort of pebbles/ stone as the base of the shower but this was personal preference. We do wish there had been curtains across all windows or a way to get from the shower back up to the bedroom without risking neighbours getting an eyeful. The bedroom itself was comfortable, but did get a bit hot. The aircon worked well downstairs (though it was dripping) but it just didn’t do much for heat in the room. Finally, it would’ve been nice to have decaf coffee/ pregnancy friendly herbal teas like peppermint or ginger, but sadly did not see any in the chalet.
The location slightly out of town, beautiful view, spacious bathroom and stand alone cabin and well equipped kitchenette. Very clean and tidy
The bedroom was upstairs in an attic style. The ceiling was slanted both sides so you couldn’t sit up in bed and you had to make sure you didn’t knock your head getting in and around the space. This cabin also had room for 4 people to sleep, but you wouldn’t all want to have luggage as there is no room for it upstairs or downstairs
Cute little wooden cottages out of town
Nice for couples but a bit cramped for four people
Super cute little cabins! Loved the woodsy vibe with plenty of outdoor space. The sauna and hot tub were a great amenity to have. Very clean and loved the check in process.
The stairs were a little narrow and steep, hard for my mother to walk up and down so if mobility is an issue this might not be the best spot for you.
This location is perfect. There is no TV, fair warning. I don't consider this a disadvantage but it is worth noting. We love this, it is adorable and so private. The location is pristine, I can't say enough. I found the online pictures to look a bit more rustic than it was in my opinion. It was so charming and the sheep in the yard nearby complete it perfectly. I included a picture from our front porch.
Keine Möglichkeit zum Essen im Innenbereich.
The grounds are beautiful with a terrace that looks onto a garden. Very peaceful. The wooden chalet is beautifully made.
It was a very cozy, comfortable and well thought-out chalet. Although there were other chalets on the property, we felt very secluded and private. The chalet was furnished and built of wooden materials made by the owner on the premises and was very reflective of the New Zealand culture of respect for the environment. We just loved it here!
Nothing at all!
The tranquility, beings around a tourist hotspot but you wouldn’t know it. Lots of thought has been put into the accommodation, heaters, fans, extensions leads, hair dryer.
No microwave.
The concept is excellent, but the execution left a lot to be desired. The setting is lovely.
As soon as we walked into our cottage the smell from the bathroom was off putting. The stairs up to the bedroom are definitely not to code and are dangerous. Everything just seemed cheap, from the towels to the kitchen equipment, the curtains, for what we paid compared to others in that price range that we've stayed in over the last 2 weeks it was hands down the worst value for money.
The design and thought that went into this chalet retreat community was amazing! Though out of town, the tiny house itself made you not want to leave.
I wish I had thought to turn up the heat overnight. It was very cold waking up in the morning.
Cute chalet located 8 minutes outside of the town centre, offering tranquility and calm yet just a short drive from shops and restaurants. The chalet contains everything you need and is impeccably clean. Lovely hosts who have put a lot of thought and effort into the property. Frankie the dog gave us a very warm welcome.
It is a little tight for four people with suitcases - this chalet would suit a couple of group of three with small suitcases. Also beware of mosquitos in Franz Josef!
It is a beautiful, peaceful spot with an easy 5 min drive to the town. Very well equipped, no tv which I loved! Also loved the check in process which involves picking up a jar at the entrance sign. Didn’t meet the owners but we did get a bust from Frankie the dog. We loved this spot.
Nothing
Location, outside space and table The nearby lake and church
