Everything! The staff were so welcoming and the room was perfectly designed. We loved the onsen on the small balcony with a Mountain View. The free drinks and snacks were a wonderful bonus and the beautiful kimonos to change into were a delight. The meal was out of this world - so delicious and a beautiful narrative to guide you through the experience. And also the library - with secret nooks to sit and relax. We didn’t want to leave!

Wij hadden gezien de reviews hoge verwachtingen van Matsumoto Jujo. Eerlijk gezegd viel het een beetje tegen. Op de foto's ziet de accommodatie er mooier uit dan in werkelijkheid. We hadden een mooie kamer, maar keken vanaf het balkon tegen een boom en een elektriciteitsmast aan. Dat is toch jammer wanneer je 500 Euro per nacht hebt betaald. Ontbijt was heerlijk, diner goed maar niet top. Er zijn twee shifts voor diner (17h15 en 19h30). In een redelijk tempo wordt het eten geserveerd, er is geen ruimte om na te tafelen. Al met al een leuk verblijf maar vergeleken met andere 5* accommodaties die wij in Japan bezocht hebben viel het ons enigszins tegen. De prijs-kwaliteit verhouding klopt absoluut niet.

本の選定が素晴らしく、興味をそそられる本が沢山ありました。静かに読める空間も素敵でした。 お部屋は狭めでしたがおしゃれでした。

この価格帯なのでアメニティは充分あると思って何も用意していなかったのですが、洗顔料がなかったのがショックでした。

スタッフさんが皆さん丁寧でした。 たくさんの本に囲まれて、幸せな時間を過ごせました。 お部屋もゆったりとしていて洗練されており、快適でした。 お料理もとても美味しかったです。

テラス付きのお部屋でしたのでテラスを利用したかったのですが、鳥がたくさん遊びに来るようでちょっと床の状態があまり清潔ではなく断念しました。 （自然豊かな証拠で微笑ましいですが）

A little bit out the way of the main Matsumoto area. Either a bus or taxi required to get there. However, this did not spoil the experience for us at all.

I enjoyed how unique the experience was. The private balcony and onsen was amazing. The restaurant and the food was phenomenal. I’ve never had such a great experience at a hotel restaurant. The whole relaxed feel of the hotel, book store and bakery was the perfect end to our vacation.

Everything: perfectly designed room, eco-friendly sustainable policy, artistic and intellectual environment (surrounded by books!). I stayed Terrace suite with two rooms and open air bath for my family (two couples). Rooms were large, clean, quiet, and comfortable. Meals were delicious with local produce and ingredients. Chef's menu was so creative. We learned a Shin-shu culture from the food. Staff members were friendly and proud of their work. We were all satisfied with our stay. Thank you.

The most amazing, stylish hotel. Situated in an old spa/onsen village on the edge of Matsumoto city. The food is fantastic. There are lovely walks and some great traditional restaurants near by. Matsumoto is a 20 minute taxi ride away and worth a visit. We had a very relaxing time. Loved it

Our stay at Matsumoto Jujo was nothing short of exceptional. The property is beautifully designed, sophisticated, and thoughtfully curated in every detail. What makes it truly special is how seamlessly it harmonizes with the surrounding town and local culture. Rather than feeling isolated from its environment, the hotel invites guests to experience and appreciate the character of the entire area. One of the highlights was the incredible collection of books throughout the property. We found ourselves constantly discovering new titles, sitting down to read “just for a moment,” and then realizing that hours had passed. It created a rare sense of fulfillment and calm that is difficult to find in modern travel. Every space felt intentional, comfortable, and inspiring. Matsumoto Jujo is far more than just a place to stay—it is a destination that enriches your time, your thoughts, and your connection to the local community. Without a doubt, this was one of the most memorable stays we have had in Japan. I cannot recommend Matsumoto Jujo highly enough to anyone seeking a unique, thoughtful, and deeply rewarding travel experience.

Beautiful design hotel keeping the luxurious feel close to the cultural heritage of the place. True farm and forest to table experience with local produce and attention to detail. I loved my room and the yakata designs, the no tv concept and the amenities, an onsen for yourself is a real treat and the coffee shop is just perfection ….highly recommended

It is far from the city tourist attractions so I would have liked a shuttle service to and from the hotel rather than taxis

Masumoto Jujo is actually a 20 minute drive outside of Masumoto in Osama Onsen but easy to get to by taxi from Masumoto station. It is a really thoughtfully well designed complex of repurposed buildings, including a previous geisha’s practice building and a public onsen. It is really cool! The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A complimentary shuttle bus for example took us to Kamikochi valley. It is half board and the food is a modern twist, using local seasonal ingredients, on a traditional kaiseki dining. The “bookstore” is definitely worth a look and the Alps bakery delicious products a try. There are lots of nice touches such as complementary sweets and ice creams, traditional slippers and jukatas. There are also private onsen in all the rooms.

The drink prices are quite high but overall the quality of the room and food was excellent

Hotel in ruhiger Lage im Stadtteil Asama Onsen von Matsumoto. Für uns ein Tag Luxus im Urlaub um zu genießen. Sehr nettes Personal, bei gebuchten Abendessen bekommt man ein 6 Gänge Menü. Die Zimmern punkten mit moderner Einrichtung, einem privaten Onsen auf dem Balkon sowie sehr großen sehr bequemen Betten. Das Hotels stellt Bademäntel sowie traditionelle Yukatas zu Verfügung, die man auch zum Dinner tragen darf.

Vom Bahnhof braucht man noch circa 30 Minuten plus Fußweg zum Hotel. Da die Busfahrt jedoch nur 340 Yen kostet, war das für uns die bessere Wahl als ein Taxi.

De kamer ruim, de bedden waren zalig, de badkamer met de privé onsen was echt heel fijn. Het avondeten en ontbijt was heel goed en het personeel super vriendelijk en service gericht. We hebben een massage geboekt en dat was echt subliem.

Eigenlijk niets. Het is een heel fijn hotel. Wel wat prijzig vergeleken met andere goede hotels die we hebben gehad.

The property is spread across several unique and architectural interesting buildings. The combination of a library and natural/healthy theme in these wonderful setting was unique and very relaxing. Our rooms were well designed, high quality and the wooden baths on the open air balconies were amazing. The restaurant was very atmospheric, cooking over an open wood fire and wonderful food and wine/sake menu. The dinner was amazing. All staff interested and engaging. One of my best stays ever.

Check-in process was a little confusing but overall our stay was a real highlight of our trip.

Unique feeling difference from other hotel , check in on old house and drive to hotel by Tuk Tuk car from Thailand , wow !

Dinner Food taste is excellent except the preparation time may a little long compared to the hungry degree we have , anyway you can enjoy the neat and willingness to prepare the meal.

La struttura e' deliziosa, pulita e curata in ogni dettaglio. Le camere sono decisamente spaziose e l'onsen privato e' un plus non da poco. Il cibo e' sublime, molto curato e preparato con ingredienti di ottima qualita'. L'idea di integrare una libreria nella struttura principale e' grandiosa ed la panetteria ed il negozio presenti al primo piano della seconda struttura sono due gioiellini. Ad ogni piano della seconda struttura c'erano snack, bevande fredde e calde e gelati sempre disponibili. L'assenza totale di plastica e' un'altro grande punto a favore. Lo staff e' adorabile.

L'unica nota leggermente stonata e' che la struttura non e' tutta nello stesso complesso, personalmente non avevo capito che avrei dovuto fare il check-in in un piccolo cafe' situato in una stradina e che poi avremmo soggiornato in un'altra struttura distante 3 minuti a piedi (per cui davvero uno spostamento minimo). Sara' che arrivando con la pioggia non e' stato il massimo, ad ogni modo ci hanno dato un passaggio ed, ovviamente, hanno portato le valigie in stanza. L'onsen per i clienti dell'hotel e' situato tra le due strutture ed e' raggiungibile solo dall'esterno e, per me che sono un po' freddolosa, non e' stato il massimo.

Hervorragendes Gesamterlebnis, tolle Atmosphäre, außergewöhnliche Architektur, die Bibliothek natürlich das absolute Highlight, schöne Aussicht über die Stadt von der Zimmerterrasse mit privatem Onsen, auch schöner öffentlicher Onsen mit besonderer Gestaltung und Blick ins Grüne. Sehr angenehmer Empfang im Café am Parkplatz. Ausgezeichnete Betten. Sehr gutes Abendessen mit regionalen Spezialitäten, vielfältiges Geschmackserlebnis und optischer Genuss. Auch das Frühstück war sehr gut - sowohl japanische wie westliche Elemente, liebevoll angerichtet und persönlich am Tisch serviert.

Νομίζω πως το κατάλυμα είναι από μόνο του ο λόγος να επισκεφθεις το Matsumoto. Εξαιρετικά καθαρό με φοβερά καλαίσθητο στυλ παντού. Η βιβλιοθήκη και χώρος του εστιατορίου είναι πραγματικά κάτι συγκλονιστικό. Το Onsen που προσφέρεται στο δωμάτιο μας είναι κάτι μοναδικό. Μακάρι να είχαμε τουλάχιστον ακόμα μια μέρα διαμονής για να πάρουμε όλη την εμπειρία.

Το ξενοδοχείο συνολικά μας άφησε εξαιρετικές εντυπώσεις και το προσωπικό ήταν πραγματικά άψογο—ευγενικό, εξυπηρετικό και πάντα πρόθυμο να βοηθήσει. Όσον αφορά το γαστρονομικό κομμάτι, παρόλο που ήταν εμφανής η υψηλή ποιότητα των υλικών και η επιμέλεια στην παρουσίαση, αισθανθήκαμε ότι δόθηκε μεγαλύτερη έμφαση στην «ιστορία» και το concept των πιάτων, παρά στην ουσία, που για εμάς είναι τελικά η γεύση. Το δείπνο, αν και προσεγμένο και δημιουργικό, δεν κατάφερε να μας εντυπωσιάσει γευστικά στον βαθμό που θα περιμέναμε. Αντίστοιχα, το πρωινό ακολούθησε την ίδια φιλοσοφία, με πολύ μικρές μερίδες που δεν μας κάλυψαν, με αποτέλεσμα να χρειαστεί να φάμε εκτός ξενοδοχείου στη συνέχεια. Συνολικά, σε γαστρονομικό επίπεδο, δεν ήταν η καλύτερη εμπειρία που έχουμε ζήσει, παρά την εμφανή προσπάθεια και το υψηλό επίπεδο εξυπηρέτησης.

The staff were extremely welcoming and thoughtful throughout our stay. They were patient and detailed in asking about our dietary restrictions, which were also conveyed to all restaurant staff - something that we appreciated very much. Even though our room had issues on the first night, we’ll gladly come back again because the service levels were incredible.

Our room’s shower heater malfunctioned twice on the first night which caused some inconvenience, but the friendly staff rectified it asap and offered a room change the next day. The dinner at the hotel restaurant was great but we’d have preferred a faster pace of serving especially after a long day out.

El hotel es precioso, el servicio es muy bueno y el ambiente es excelente.

Intentan crear una fusión de comida japonesa con occidental y les sale muy regular. Un desayuno con 80% de ensalada fría (en medio del invierno) y casi ninguna proteína, es muy decepcionante. El aire acondicionado solo está en Japonés (todos los demás hoteles lo tenían disponible en otros idiomas) así que manejarlo es muy difícil, por lo que con una habitación amplia y poca calefacción no es muy cómodo. Si dieran un menú japonés tradicional, este hotel sería maravilloso.

Struttura moderna ma ben integrata e adattata all'architettura della zona. Stanza molto bella con vasca onsen privata sul terrazzo. Abbiamo cenato nella struttura (consigliato). Ambiente molto gradevole e di design. Ottima esperienza.

Onsen pubblico un po' troppo ridotto per le aspettative che offre la struttura e per la media di altri hotel meno costosis in cui abbiamo soggiornato. Colazione tipica giapponese con quasi nulle alternative occidentali.

Dit is een prachtige accomodatie, fantastisch hetbouwd met mooie kamers en ruimtes. De mensen zijn zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Onze kamer, terras-suite, was geweldig.

Breakfast and dinner at the hotel were great - exceptional food prepared and the menus were different for both nights that we were there. The in-room onsen was a great addition to the trip with a lot of privacy. The room size was huge and the amenities were all self-service at each level. There were also free snacks, ice cream, water, and coffee located at the floor we were staying. Staff was really nice and helpful - truly an exceptional experience at Matsumoto!

Parking for the hotel is located at a separate location. However, the staff kindly drove the car over after we unloaded our luggage at the main reception. Room was slightly dim. The establishment is small; view from the hotel was the entrance of the hotel.

My second trip in the last year. And I’ll be back again next year. Great helpful staff, wonderful setting. I love all of the book. And especially the care of presenting local food with great expectations of what you are eating. By the way their Macha donuts at their bakery are wonderful. I also took home a few bags of their special granola. Wish I’d brought more. I’ve been to Japan well over 20 times I highly recommend this lodging.
