Reviewed Aug 19, 2026The Old Exchange is a lovely place to stay. It's location is incredible. The place is very clean and the breakfast is lovely. Mari is really great to deal with and goes above and beyond. Her communication is excellent and clear and she is helpful without being overbearing. We stayed for my birthday and she made it extra special, as well as recommending the Marconi restaurant where we had a delicious meal. I would recommend a stay.

Reviewed Aug 19, 2026We had such a wonderful stay at The Old Exchange in Clifton, and it was honestly one of our best hotel experiences! The property is absolutely lovely — beautifully and tastefully decorated, exceptionally clean, and very comfortable. Everything felt thoughtfully cared for, and the breakfast was delicious as well. But what truly made our stay special was Mari, the owner. She was absolutely wonderful from beginning to end. She reached out to us the day before our arrival to check what time we would be arriving, asked what type of room we preferred, gave us helpful directions, and told us to contact her if we needed anything. As we arrived quite late, she even waited up for us. She was incredibly warm, kind, and helpful throughout our entire stay. At one point, I needed help with something, and Mari solved the problem for me almost instantly. She genuinely went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay here. Usually, I am a bit picky and there are usually something that is not perfect,, and we keep our reviews real, but The Old Exchange was just perfect. It’s such a lovely, charming place, and the personal touch makes all the difference. We would highly, highly recommend The Old Exchange to anyone visiting Clifton. And if we’re ever back in Clifton, there is absolutely no question — we will stay here again! Thank you Mari ❤️

Reviewed Aug 18, 2026A beautiful property with lovely comfortable rooms. We arrived quite late but had good communication from our host to access our rooms. We loved the feeling of ‘being at home’ with the additional sitting room. Our host was very welcoming, frequently topping up the excellent choice of self-serve continental breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay again.
Parking is on street but we found spaces fairly easily.

Reviewed Aug 9, 2026Clean and comfortable room, very welcoming host and an excellent location right in the centre of Clifden. Secure bike storage was a real bonus for us as we were travelling by bike. We also thought it was very good value for Clifden in peak summer season.
The shower was quite small and the water pressure was poor. Breakfast was a little on the light side, although given the very reasonable price for Clifden in peak season, this is a minor point.

The entire house smelled amazing, the room was spotless, and the towels and sheets were freshly laundered, soft, and beautifully scented. Breakfast was excellent, offering everything one could ask for, and Mari thoughtfully checked in to keep the table clean and replenished. 100% recommended.

Excellent location for exploring the surrounds of Connemara and accessing all the great pubs and restaurants in Clifden. Impeccable rooms, very comfortable and quiet despite being on the corner of a main thoroughfare. Mari, the host is most personable, most kind and helpful and made my stay even more enjoyable. Great coffee anytime and a fabulous bean to cup machine!

Proper coffee was a real bonus, something other places don't cater for. Thanks for looking after me so well.

(The following applies to both rooms we booked) Extremely thin walls - we could hear people snoring next door which kept us awake. There was also a pane of glass above our door that let a lot of light in, which was also disturbing our sleep. The shower pressure was very intermittent and the bathroom door didn’t close.

Shops and restaurants and pubs are also right there. Breakfast was very lovely too! We had a terrific stay. Do not hesitate to book!!
