Great location, lovely breakfast
Nice location on the water
Na
Location. Great breakfast. Access to back patio and kayaks. It was storming and we didn’t get to use them but appreciate the amenity
The house is very nice, well maintained, cozy, with a beautiful access to the Bras d'Or. The room is not big, but comfortable and quiet. The breakfast is abundant and of good quality. We had dinner at the Cable Room of the Telegraph House (which is managed by the same property of Dunlop Inn) and if was very good.
all good
Beautiful vibes of Harbour and close to restaurants
We especially enjoyed Carl, our host. He was informative and fun to chat with. The inn is in a perfect location to explore the area.
NA
Location, cleanliness, decor and the breakfast
Bathroom was small
Perfect location on the lake. Loved having access to kayaks. Breakfast was perfect and host was very kind and informative. Loved the Bell museum and the whole town of Baddeck
All was great!
A beautiful location, a clean, comfortable and very welcoming place. Additional benefits included kayaks to use and a wonderful sun terrace.
Nothing!
Location
Steep stairs, not much fun carrying heavy cases, no one to assist. The only staff member was the breakfast assistant, so no advice re the area
the house in general
breakfast
The room was lovely and the bed comfortable. The water front setting is gorgeous and a great location for exploring. Our host Carl was superb and unlike other properties in the area had ensured that my wife’s dietary requirements were meet. Breakfast on the water front is a must.
That we didn’t stay longer!
We enjoyed the deck overlooking the lake
We really enjoyed dinner at your sister inn. We were disappointed that we needed to go there for our key. We did not know that in advance, which resulted in aggregation on arrival.
Location, Staff, and relaxed atmosphere.
Pillows, glass blocks separating shower from main area and glass bathroom door allowing view into the bathroom. Also do not remember being told we had to check in at a neighboring property. Came, unloaded, had to reload and drive down the street to check in.
Firstly, the basics; parking was available at the property and there was enough room for guests without issue. Everything we wanted was available (including water at any time of day from a cooler in the dining room, which was left open for guests to access) and the room was very comfortable and had a good bathroom. Next, the 'best bits'....... Wonderful location for a beautiful, 'traditional' building which really felt more like a home than 'just' a place to stay. Loved the 'common room' (like a 'front room'/lounge) which opened directly via patio doors on to a decking area with appropriate furniture. This led down a slight grassy bank, straight on to a little boardwalk/jetty, with a small boat tied-up alongside. The view was unobstructed of Baddeck bay/harbour, including bobbing boats and a 'typical' Nova Scotia lighthouse. Perfect! We also enjoyed a beautiful meal at the Cable Room restaurant at the Telegraph House and Motel; we highly recommend! The 2 places (Telegraph House/Cable Room and The Dunlop Inn) appear connected as check-in for The Dunlop was at the Telegraph House and our waitress from the Cable Room appeared when we were on the decking at the Dunlop, an hour-or-two after our dinner! She was also overseeing breakfast at The Dunlop the following morning. Overall, a really nice place to stay; would book again and we recommend.
Nothing.
Our bathroom is separate from and some distance away from the bedroom, which I did not realize when I made the reservation. Otherwise, everything was excellent.
Our bathroom is separate from and some distance away from the bedroom, which I did not realize when I made the reservation.
The place had charm. Nice location.
Climbing the stairs was arduous with our luggage, the stairway is not wide. Our room has a dedicated locked bathroom but we had to cross the hall to get to it. If I had a choice I would choose a room with an inside bathroom. The breakfast was continental only, no hot breakfast option.
Super vue sur le bras d’or. Joli décor. C’est très très propre. Personnel sympathique.
My husband and I spent 2 nights in the Lighthouse Room at the inn and were very pleased. The stunning view of the harbor and lighthouse was everything we dreamed of. The bed and bath rooms were clean, comfortable and appealing. The caretakers were personable and helpful. A nice Continental breakfast is served in a lovely common room. We lucked out with beautiful weather and enjoyed lounging in the Adirondack chairs by the water. It's an easy walk to the attractions and restaurants in town, and very close to the Alexander Graham Bell Historical Site. If you have the opportunity to attend a ceilidhs at St. Michael's Hall, don't miss it, it was a special highlight of our visit. It's best to reserve seats in advance since there wasn't an empty seat in the place.
The location , right on Lake Baddeck , was perfect and it is walking distance to shops , restaurants and the museum . It is a charming house .
Our room was a little cramped , the bathroom certainly was , my husband and I had the downstairs bedroom . Breakfast was adequate but underwhelming. Frankly I didn’t think it was value for money .
The view was magnificent and the location was very convenient.
The room was a little cramped for 3 of us.
The owner/host was fabulous and very helpful. The setting and location were exceptional. Breakfast was a treat and included homemade muffins and scones Baddeck has been the great surprise of our holiday which was originally onky to be a quick overnight stay. AGB museum is a must
Good location, historic charm, but Room 3 is quite disappointing. It’s VERY tight for 2 people with luggage and does not have a pleasant view. The closet has an angled floor so you can’t store luggage in it. The bathroom is disconnected and you have to leave the room and go across the hall. The furniture is very dated. It does have a window air conditioner and ceiling fan, which is good since temps are warmer than normal but both are rather loud and distracting. Finding few pros to balance the cons to redeem the experience. The other rooms here might be nice but room 3 is not what we expected.
beautiful view of bras d'or lake
did not realize I book a room with a bathroom across the all
The view of the habor was out of the world. The close proximity to restaurants was excellent.
Having the bathroom not attached to the bedroom.
Nice deck. Good breakfast. Nespresso machine available any time. Good location. Small boutique feel. Nicely decorated.
Not fond of very old houses. Our room was ground floor and the floor sloped badly including the bed. We ended up propping up the legs on one side to keep us from rolling. Also small bed. Squeaky floors that you can hear at night when anyone uses the bathroom. I realize these are things inherent in an old house.
Excellent location, beautiful room and facilities.
Kayaks available for guests. Great location. Dock on water with chairs to relax and chill
This would have been an excellent rating but for the fact our heating turned on at 2am and this then woke us up Rooms should be cool to allow people to sleep Heating should not start til 6am at earliest
Location and views were amazing! Breakfast was great!
Bathroom was very small and unable to move around. No privacy in bathroom if someone else in room with you. Beds were very uncomfortable. When we arrived door unlocked but no one to check us in. Had to call and was told to go to different hotel up the road.
It is situated in a wonderful location on the waterfront and is very convenient for the town and the start of the Cabot Trail. The house is furnished in the old style with modern adaptations to make it more comfortable. There is a lovely lounge with views of the harbour and wooden chairs to relax on the lawn. Breakfast was satisfying with cereals, bread and muffins. The owners seemed helpful.
The bed seemed rather small for a queen size.
Beautiful location, friendly & helpful owner, comfy beds, good breakfast & good coffee
Bathroom was a bit small
Built in 1861, the Dunlap Inn is a small 5-room B&B located on the shores of Bras d'Or Lake in the Cape Breton Island town of Baddeck, NS. We stayed two nights in a second floor street-view room with a private bath (although there were some lake views out the side window in the room}. One important note: You must check-in at the Telegraph House about a quarter mile down the road to get your Dunlap Inn room keys. Our room had a double bed and twin bed, two chairs and small side table. The bathroom, that was very likely a closet before it was transformed, had a toilet sink and decent sized shower, with a sliding pocket door for privacy. Downstairs included a breakfast room and a bright common living room overlooking the lake with sliding glass doors that opened to a porch from which you could watch the activity on the lake and enjoy the view of Kidston Island and its lighthouse. One day, we actually saw a seal bobbing around in the lake, which they say is a fairly common sight. Outside, a grassy lawn gave way to a dock on the water offering comfortable Adirondack Chairs. Parking is available for 5 cars onsite. The Continental Breakfast included, bagels, breads, fresh fruit, cheese, a baked item, hard-boiled eggs, cold cereal, granola, yogurt, juice and coffee/tea, and was served from 8-10am. The village of Baddeck is fairly compact. From the inn you could take a 5-minute walk to the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, which is worth a visit, and several restaurants and shops in town. Tom's Pizza was very good, as was the Highwheeler Cafe & Bakery with fresh baked goods and their own fresh-roasted coffee. The Main Street Restaurant and the Freight Shed are two full-service, sit-down restaurants with nice menus, although we didn't eat at either. About 15 minutes down the road are the Big Spruce Brewing Company (Eastern Canada's only on-farm organic craft brewery} and another great cafe called the Herring Choker Deli in Nyanza. Don't let the name fool you. The homemade sandwiches and baked goods were outstanding! We enjoyed the inn and met some interesting people who were all there to experience the Cabot Trail. Definitely, a quaint, quiet place to spend a couple nights.
We stayed here for one night and were very impressed. Check in at the neighbouring hotel was quick and easy. Our room was comfortable and well appointed and the breakfast was excellent.
We love the historic old homes and meeting fellow travellers. We had a wonderful night out at the Freight Shed- walking distance- with the best food we experienced in all Nova Scotia. The entertainment was local music which we enjoyed immensely. We checked out the Alexander Graham Bell museum (walking)and found it very interesting. Great visit!
The bed needs an upgrade and the shared bathroom didn’t lock from the inside. Easy fixes.
Extremely charming historic house, with all comforts of home in beautiful Baddeck. Highly recommend - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable couple running the Inn.
Nothing not to like. Highly rated.
Great location. Across the street from Alexander Bell museum. Right on the water. Plenty of parking. Charming breakfast nook and reading room. Good window coverings for blocking out light.
It is an old house so you can hear everyone walking around or talking. The bed is more of a queen than a king. The shower was warmish the room was cold. I noticed there is no AC for summer. .no outlets at bedside.
Breakfast had a great variety. Location was great to walk to restaurants.
Cozy home in the small town of Baddeck. It was perfect for our short stay while we explored the Cabot trail. The room was fairly comfortable. Met owners at breakfast, they were both lovely. They went out to get me gluten free bread and cereal when they found out I was celiac which was very kind. Good choices for breakfast. Helpful with questions we had.
We booked the most basic room, which meant the bathroom was across the hall, minorly inconvenient, but wish I had read the description better as we may have chosen a slightly upgraded room. But in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't a huge deal. No tv in the room, but there is one down in the living room.
Lovely, charming old Inn right on the water with beautiful view from some rooms and nice outdoor seating. Nice breakfast, comfortable beds, quiet.
Slightly expensive compared to similar places we stayed.
Friendly welcome and responsive host. Good breakfast. Comfortable rooms.
Superbe propriété très bien décorée. Excellent petit-déjeuner. Hôte très sympathique. Superbe patio avec vue sur la mer. Tout était magnifique!
Rien.
We’ll maintain and great location
Carpet in bedroom
Location, and it was absolutely charming. Staff was like family. The view spectacular
Did not get to control the heat. Orbison central boiler
location was amazing!
The room is clean and the guests are friendly and quiet.
The breakfast has very limited selections. Most of the choices are breads, muffins etc, and it was lack of fresh fruits, vegetables and proteins. The towels are clean, but it showed an "old" smell right after use.
Breakfast was simple but lovely. Great location. loved the outdoor space to sit at waters edge with a glass of wine
All great no issues
The view, the lakefront, comfort, really nice hosts, the lobster supper at nearby restaurant, and we loved coffee and tea with honey always available. Breakfast was really good too. Good location for driving the Cabot trail as well.
Didn’t like walking uphill to check-in. If we stay again we’ll stop there first.
Location is amazing
Temp in the room was incredibly warm
Beautiful historic home right on the shore of Bras d’Or. We were on the main floor in the most historic room which was spacious and comfortable. Across from us was the shared living room for reading in the evening and enjoying coffee in the morning sunshine. I was even able to do yoga there before breakfast. The staff was really nice, helpful and accommodating.
As mentioned, we were in the “historic” room. The bed was quite creaky with a soft mattress which was not ideal for me. The other rooms are more updated and the main suite is quite nice with a gorgeous ensuite.
It was well located in Baddeck. It was clean. The peope were friendly.
We had the only room downstairs where we had quite some noise from the creaking ceiling when people moved on the room above us. Also the toilets made a lot of noise, when the people above us used theirs at night ours was also making noise so we woke up at night. Registration was at another place a few hundreds of meters away from the inn.
Location was great, walking to many events, shops, eateries! Beds were comfy and the Continental breakfast was more than sufficient.
Room we had was tiny and you could barely turn around in the bathroom. We are not large humans, so I can’t imagine a larger person maneuvering themselves in the bathroom.
Such cute accommodation in a perfect location. Yummy breakfast too!
Great position, really comfortable room, lovely people and excellent breakfast. Eating breakfast on the porch overlooking the water was very relaxing!
Location was beautiful. Dock along the water very nice and relaxing. Breakfast was nice.
Room was nice. Room 2 (lighthouse) That being said it was designed with “pretty” as the goal and not “functionality”. No table of any kind. Beautiful bathroom but only a poorly sliding 300 lb. Door to it. The entrance door sealed terribly allowing hallway light and noice to get in and out. The hinges were so loud I woke up most of the guests going out at 6:30 in the morning. I’m an early riser.
The location, rooms, outside chairs and view, common room, breakfast
Nothing
Water front view is the best in Baddeck.
Location location location. Very well appointed sun room with 2 slidding doors to look out at the beautiful waterfront view.
Ran out of food. 4 of us sat together around 8:30 and no egg left for 4th person. Small diced pieces of fruit for bowls was disappointing. Lovely conversation with British couple.
We were extremely happy with the Inn with the exception of how tight the bathroom was.
They cancelled our booking on the day of our visit because of a double booking. I suspect someone wanted it for more nights than we did. They kindly offered to waive our cancellation fee which, as they were the ones who actually cancelled our booking, didn’t seem that generous of an offer. To be fair, they did offer us an alternative, albeit unsuitable, room at a completely different hotel.
