We had a wonderful stay at Winwood Ella Hotel, a family-run property that made our trip truly special. The owner picked us up in Kandy and drove us to the hotel, stopping along the way to show us the stunning nature and waterfalls, so our amazing stay actually began with that drive. The hotel itself is beautiful, with wood featured throughout. One of the definite highlights is the private terrace, which looks directly into a forest, you can even spot animals from there. Breakfast is served on your private terrace every morning and is freshly made. It's just a 5-minute walk to the city center, and if you're into hiking, you can start your trek right from the accommodation on foot. The whole family is incredibly lovely, they helped us with everything and made us feel completely at home. If you're visiting Ella, you have to stay here! If we could give 15 out of 10, we definitely would.

Die Unterkunft war wirklich sehr aussergewöhnlich und toll gestaltet. Wir haben uns von Minute eins an sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Zimmer sind wirklich sehr gut ausgestattet und der Balkon mit Blick in den Urwald ist wirklich atemberaubend. Man fühlt sich mitten in der Natur eingebettet, obwohl man in wenigen Minuten zu Fuß direkt in Ella ist. Der Service und das Frühstück sind wirklich hervorragend.

A wonderful stay at a truly special B&B Winwood Ella is a unique and charming B&B, beautifully built with wood and surrounded by nature. Everything is very well maintained and spotlessly clean. We stayed in a spacious and comfortable family room for four. The breakfast was generous and delicious, served on our private terrace with beautiful views of the surrounding nature. What really made our stay special was the lovely family who runs the B&B. They were incredibly kind and attentive. Our daughter accidentally left her sneakers behind, and they not only contacted us but kindly mailed them to our next destination. Such a thoughtful gesture! We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend Winwood Ella. We would happily come back!

Winwood is truly exceptional and deserves all the positive reviews. Very difficult to get a room here as it is often sold out but if you can I can't recommend this place highly enough. The owner Lal, and his wife, are incredibly hospitable. This is a real labour of love for them. Breakfasts on the balcony were lovely. Very tastefully decorated, good facilities and great value for money. We were a family of 4 and had plenty of room. Very conveniently located for Ella, a bit of a steep hill to climb, but well worth it.

Un petit déjeuner extra servi sur la terrasse. Un personnel très très accueillant et aidant. La chambre à tout le confort nécessaire...il ne manquait que la piscine pour que tout soit parfait. Séjour mi-août d'une nuit. Nous avons eu très beau et chaud Coup de cœur pour cet hébergement digne d'un châlet de montagne

Camera meravigliosa Proprietari gentilissimi: io non posso mangiare glutine e pur essendomi dimenticata di avvisare, mi hanno cucinato gli hoppers in maniera espressa. Probabilmente la camera più bella in cui ho alloggiato durante le tre settimane di vacanza in Sri Lanka.

Alles! De gastheer en de gastvrouw zijn de meest gastvrije en warme mensen die je je maar kan voorstellen. De kamer is gezellig en de bedden slapen heerlijk. Het ontbijt is top en wordt geserveerd op je terras (elke dag iets anders). De ligging is perfect, dichtbij het centrum, het station en alle restaurantjes maar toch ver genoeg van de drukte en het lawaai. We kunnen dit adres alleen maar warm aanbevelen.

La camera era grande e pulita, molto comoda la colazione in balcone. Ottima posizione perché abbastanza vicino al centro ma silenzioso. La colazione della prima mattina non ci è piaciuta molto perché le uova erano fredde e poca altra scelta. Il secondo giorno invece molto ricca e buona

Splendido! Personale super accogliente e cordiale, struttura meravigliosa, immersa nella giungla, camera bellissima e ben curata, pulita! Colazione ricca, molto buona e servita nel terrazzo della nostra stanza. Posizione comodissima al centro, in neanche 10 minuti si raggiunge e con una passeggiata di 30 minuti si raggiunge il Nine Arches Bridge. Avremo voluto fermarci una notte in più da quanto era bello.

The sisters running the hotel were very friendly and always warm to chat with guests. The design of the hotel is thoughtful, featuring a spacious balcony with comfortable armchairs. In the morning, the staff accessed the balcony via a separate door to prepare breakfast right on time—they even served us traditional Sri Lankan hoppers, which were delicious! A truly lovely place for travelers.

Struttura davvero carina ed accogliente in legno nel bel mezzo della giungla. Curata in ogni minimo dettaglio. Le proprietarie, due sorelle, sono davvero ospitali e fin da subito ti fanno sentire come a casa. Offrono inoltre ottimi consigli per l’organizzazione della tua visita a Ella. La struttura si trova appena in salita rispetto a Ella city, tutta via si trova a pochissimi minuti (strada in discesa) dalla stazione ferroviaria, quindi per noi che abbiamo preso il treno è stato comodissimo.

Wat een fijn onthaal door deze familie in dit prachtig ruim verblijf. Wij verbleven hier 4 nachten en elke ochtend kregen we een ander heerlijk vers ontbijt. De gastheer, zijn naam ontsnapt me nu, heeft ons 2 keer mee op uitstap genomen. We zijn naar de waterval en de Lipton thee plantages geweest. De gesprekken onderweg waren echt heel fijn. We waren ook op wandelafstand van het straatje met alle winkeltjes en restaurants wat ook wel fijn is.

Davvero tutto perfetto, dalla stanza bellissima compreso il bagno e lo staff è gentilissimo, presente e discreto. La colazione sulla terrazza della nostra camera con vista sulla foresta e le scimmie che ondeggiavano sugli alberi hanno reso questo breve soggiorno indimenticabile.

Exceptionally warm and welcoming host (who doubles as a tour guide and driver), the best breakfast we had in three weeks in Sri Lanka (homemade jam and the tastiest dal!), and stunning rooms with private balcony. What's not to love?

This is a beautiful place in a great location. The owner is extremely attentive, giving good local information. Breakfast was different on each day - a great choice and the fresh juice was superb! Whilst sitting on the balcony you can watch the monkeys and spot different birds. Highly recommend!

Deze kleinschalige locatie is echt timmermanskunst! En heeft daardoor een heel eigen sfeer, met het balkon -waar je ontbijt- zo in de jungle. De eigenaar is zeer gastvrij en regelt alles en heeft dingen met ons samen gedaan, zoals een trip naar de diyaluma waterval en ons afzetten in Arugam Bay.

La struttura è situata su una salita piuttosto ripida, ma in una posizione centrale: in pochi minuti a piedi si raggiungono facilmente la strada principale e la fermata degli autobus. L’alloggio è molto bello, suggestivo e dotato di tutti i comfort necessari per un soggiorno piacevole. Il proprietario è stato estremamente gentile, disponibile e sempre pronto ad aiutarci per qualsiasi necessità. La colazione è stata davvero ottima, con prodotti freschi e abbondanti. Un consiglio per i futuri ospiti: chiedete al proprietario il contatto di un tuk-tuk locale, poiché in questa zona l’app PickMe non sempre funziona in modo affidabile.

Wat een lieve eigenaar en dochter. Prima slaapkamer en prachtige badkamer. Top ontbijt! Als het restaurant open is zal dit nog een grotere meerwaarde geven. Goed bezig familie Winwood!! 🫶

Misschien als het heel warm wordt kan een airco aangenaam zijn, maar tijdens ons verblijf was de temperatuur op de kamer prima. 👌

Vanuit het verblijf wandel je gemakkelijk naar het centrum van Ella. Zoals je op de foto’s kan zien is de accommodatie een knappe constructie van hout en afgewerkt met oog voor detail. De host en zijn vrouw doen er alles aan om hun gasten een leuke tijd te geven. Het ontbijt is zeer verzorgd en werd elke dag ook afgewisseld. Je krijgt het het opgediend op het terras dat uitkijkt op groen. De host geeft goede tips wat handig is om de regio te verkennen. Deze plek verdient een warme aanbeveling!

Abbiamo trascorso un soggiorno meraviglioso in questa guesthouse. Il proprietario e la sua famiglia ci hanno accolto con gentilezza e ospitalità davvero eccezionali. Le camere sono nuove e pulite, la colazione deliziosa con ingredienti freschi preparata al momento. Consigliamo questa guesthouse a chiunque voglia vivere un'esperienza autentica in Sri Lanka.

This hotel became my peaceful home away from home. From the moment I arrived, I felt like part of the family. The owners are some of the kindest, friendliest, and most helpful people I’ve ever met. Their genuine hospitality made my stay truly unforgettable, and I know I’ll miss them. 😊 If you’re looking for a warm, welcoming place to stay, I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. I would happily stay here again.

Me ha gustado muchísimo el sitio, uno de los mejores sitios de toda Sri Lanka en el que hemos estado: las camas grandes , cómodas y limpias; el desayuno variado y muy rico; buena ubicación con vistas hacia la selva pero muy cerca del centro andando. Todo muy limpio. Pero lo que más me ha gustado son los dueños que han sido estupendos, muy serviciales, educados y amables. De hecho el propietario, Lal, nos llevó a Galle en su coche a un precio muy competitivo en una excursión pasando por dos cascadas ( en una de ellas pudimos bañarnos )y por el Buda más grande sobre piedra del mundo…..ha sido una excursión estupenda. Desde aquí se lo agradezco de nuevo. Aconsejo quedarse en la habitación de luxe porque la habitación por 5 dólares extra, lo merece…. Otra cosa buena es que en ningún momento te pedían que les dieras una buena reseña, como nos pasó en otros alojamientos y eso es de agradecer.

Die Unterkunft ist fantastisch, sehr schon eingerichtet, alles aus Holz. Auch das Badezimmer ist schön und komfortabel. Das Frühstück wurde auf dem Balkon serviert, von dort aus konnte man die Affen beobachten und das leckere Essen genießen. Man ist auch zu Fuß sehr schnell im Stadtzentrum, alles bestens, gerne wieder!

WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY! This is without a doubt the best place I have stayed in Sri Lanka. It feels like you stay in a treehouse, the rooms are beautiful and fully made out of wood. A really lovely design. The showers have perfect water, from warm to hot. The room has a terrace and it feels like you are staying in a treehouse in the jungle. Breakfast will be served at the terrace at the time you want. During breakfast you'll enjoy the view on the trees and lots of different birds and chipmunks. I got a better look and pictures on beautiful birds than on safari's! Monkeys will pass too from time to time, yet they don't cause issues. I could have stayed all day enjoying these views. Its really close to the Ella Rock hike starting point, just follow the train rails. The bridge is also in walking distance, for the more lazy one's there are lots of tuktuks. It's a short walk from the train station (Kandy to Ella), and just outside the centre, so no chaos or noize at night. The owners are super nice as well! Thank you for my wonderful experience at your place!

The only "downside" is that its a little uphill from the main street, if you are lazy, you might not enjoy the climb but there are lots of cheap tuktuks who will drive you up. A fantastic view comes with a tiny effort and trust me, its worth it!

The host was amazing! He gave us the best tips and recommendations, was so friendly and always checked in on us!! The breakfast on the balcony was always a great start to the day!!

Winwood is a very quiet place, immersed in nature, a real hidden gem run by a very hospitable family. The room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable and the view from the room was absolutely amazing. The breakfast was another highlight of Winwood, delicious, homemade and different each day. I'd recommend Winwood without any doubts.

It’s very close to the Main Street of Ella, so everything is in a walking distance. It’s a proper cabin style room, all good.

No bad things to say about the property. The approach road is quite steep and narrow, that’s all.

Ein wenig den Berg hoch fern vom Trubel der Hauptstraße und daher schön ruhig gelegen; Balkon mit Blick ins unmittelbare Grüne; Zimmer top ausgestattet mit individuellem Flair; täglich variiertes Frühstück mit Liebe zubereitet,... Laal und sein Team sind sehr zuvorkommend, hilfsbereit und liebenswürdig. Einen herzlichen Dank für diesen schönen Aufenthalt!

Lo que mas me gusto del alojamiento fue el buen trato y la la idea de que todo fuese construido con madera.

En la habitacion no habia nevera y las camas eran algo pequeñas, a mi pareja se le salian los piesta.

Séjour incroyable , le lieu est magnifique , la chambre donne sur la forêt et c’est très reposant. Les repas sont de qualités et très copieux. La jeune femme et sa maman sont des hôtes vraiment exceptionnelles et nous ne les oublierons pas !

We had a great time at Winwood Ella. My wife and I stayed for five nights with our little baby boy and we absolutely loved our time there. The hosts are so polite and helpful, giving us useful tips for things to do around Ella or on what are reasonable tuktuk prices. We had the big room with two beds and is it was just perfect for us. It was very clean and comfy. The breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious. Each morning we got to taste something new and everything tasted great. The place is within walking distance of the town, just follow the train tracks and you're there in a few minutes We can absolutely recommend Winwood Ella to anyone staying in this beautiful town, you won't find kinder hosts anywhere.

Had a lovely stay here. The room was beautiful with a charming wooden style and everything was very clean and well maintained. The location is excellent and very convenient, though be prepared for a short walk up a fairly steep hill to reach the property. The breakfast was also lovely and a great start to the day. What really made the difference, however, was the hospitality of the owner. They made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay, which added such a personal touch to the experience. Would happily stay again!

The property is very peaceful in amongst the trees and provides a lovely opportunity to spot the various birds and squirrels that come visit. It’s really nice that the breakfast is served on your own private balcony and the hosts are incredibly kind. No request was too much. They helped me organise my laundry to be done and arranged transport in the area for me when needed. I will definitely visit again!

The service and hospitality was outstanding. The host is well versed with information around town and was able to provide amazing suggestions and help out with our small requests.
