Lovely to have a nice pub and restaurant on hand
Room we had a bit basic
Soft white towels Good selection of teas, coffee and biscuits in room Friendly staff
Generally bedroom and bathroom could have been cleaner, webs and spiders in corners, stains on cushions and throw. Public areas look tired and a deep clean is required throughout. Bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable - needs a mattress topper. Looking forward to my breakfast on first morning but sadly after waiting 45 minutes for an omelette I gave up. As my visit was to see a seriously ill relative in critical care at a local hospital I couldn't find the energy to make a fuss.
Quiet Location. Good fresh breakfast. Plenty of parking.
Farm Tractors make a lot of noise on passing
The food was amazing, staff is so friendly.
Network issues
Comfortable
Nothing upset us
very pleasant staff and good freshly cooked food
Food in the restaurant was lovely and breakfast was grast plenty of choice and hot food cooked fresh. The bar and restaurant were nicely decorated and reasonably priced food and drinks
Rooms where in need of a lick of paint scuff marks on walls broken tie back on curtain and mold around shower tray . Bathroom very small. Just a few tweeks could make it look beautiful as some of the mirrors pictures were gorgeous
Location was good
Bedroom was very disappointing, there was only one bedside lamp, the bathroom was tiny, the main light had different bulbs in it and there were some cobwebs or dust webs in the room. The serving of the bedroom during our stay was at best poor. How this hotel won the Channel 4 show Four in a Bed will never know!!’
Lovely evening meal & breakfast
Comfy sleep. Good meals.
I would like to be shown to my room and helped with my luggage
The location as I have friends and family nearby. Breakfast was ok. Friendly staff.
I have stayed numerous times over the years as I have friends and family nearby. The rooms have became increasingly scruffy to a level that we will not stay again, I would actually describe the room as grim. Overhead light had flickering bulb, wall light over the bed was loose, the bedside cabinets didn’t match, the whole room and en-suite was in need of refurbishment. The restaurant food was previously good and we always have friends visit for a meal together but there has been a decline in the quality of food the last few visits and this time the food was awful.
The hotel is well positioned, only a couple of miles from the A55 junction of the M6. It is truly an old English pub in a small village with added rooms and excellent parking. It is not part of a chain which makes a change in this day and age and the young staff I came across were friendly and attentive.
The room itself was small but offered everything I needed however the first floor corridor carpet looked dirty and as it was different from the ground floor I suspect it is due to be replaced soon. I have minor mobility issues and was given a room on the upper floor and no lift so next time, I will ask for a lower floor room.
Both breakfast and dinner were excellent
romm light was too bright and there was only one bedside light. We prepaid for dinner but we were not told what rules applied to this and apparently dinning room staff had not been informed which caused a minor embarrasment to both ouselves and staff member.
Lovely old pub in good location. Breakfast was great and the evening meals were excellent.
Bedroom itself was ok but could do with a bit of an update. Bathroom lovely. The corridor to the bedrooms also needs attention.
Spacious room, easy access to Wi-Fi and tea coffee facilities. Good breakfast value for money
Staff were slow on service at breakfast time making us late to check out as orginal planned by 25mins.
Excellent dinner menu and a good breakfast
Blinds in room could have been better
Lovely clean spacious room, very quiet, large parking area.
Everything was good
The food was ok
We booked for 2 adults and 1 child (6yrs old) No bed was made up for our daughter and the manager got pretty annoyed when we asked for one, saying it hadn't been requested. I've never had to specify anywhere else that my 6 year old does indeed need a bed! I get that peope with babies may bring their own cot but we booked and paid for 3 people to stay. He said he'd make a bed but later as they were busy ( I could only see around 7 people in the restaurant at this point) 3 hours later no bed was made so I found a fold up one in the hallway and made it myself! The managers attitude was the issue. Both beds were also uncomfortable. The only redeeming thing was the food was OK.
Staff very friendly especially the lady doing the breakfasts and reception. Good atmosphere in bar.

Lovely oldi worldi pub so much history had a very nice view of the bowling ground.from my room very comfortable
Unfotunately my television wasn't working properly. The roast i had in even was nice but vegetables very under cooked!!
Great stay, lovely staff, would recommend and would stay again.
Located close to the motorway for access. Traditional pub feel in one drinking area and a modern feel restaurant area serving an array of pies (it was Pie & a Pint night). Superb staff, attentive and very professional
Nothing not to like
Nothing in particular. A wake had taken over the whole bar/restaurant area, so when we arrived no space for hotel guests to engage or relax until early evening. The room was much smaller then shown and overall very disappointing.
Our room was not up to standard, difficult to walk around the bed to access the bathroom, television was on a very low table only visible from one side of the bed. Based on a busy road/intersection so traffic noise was an issue. The large car park absolutely full of cars from first thing in the morning and also when we arrived, but there was a wake taking place that afternoon, but the hotel was really quiet in the morning, so where were the people, is it used as a drop off facility for the airport, not one free parking space available until we left and this was a large car park.
It was a nice old building with plenty of character and ample car parking. Restaurant food and breakfast was good.
The interior could do with a repaint and makeover. The decor is beginning to look tired.
C'est un merveilleux endroit tellement ancien ! Et il y avait une bonne ambiance !
Rien.
Location was excellent l lived in Handforth years ago it was great to see another lovely area.
I couldn’t say
Le restaurant
Le bruit dans les chambres Tv et voix dans le patio jusqu'à 2 h du matin
This place is 10/10, excellent service, great staff very accommodating, room and facilities are clean and in excellent condition, breakfast was just perfect.
The friendliness & helpfulness of the staff impressed me & always came with a smile. My room was well appointed & great tasting coffee bags opposed to other hotels instant sachets was a thoughtful touch. Restaurant food was delicious and came in generous helpings.
Beautiful looking property

Staff very helpful and always had a smile Plenty of free car parking nice friendly restaurant Bar area very nice
The back garden which was the entrance to the hotel was dirty with cigarette butts and the flower beds were unkept also decking area needed to be swept also chairs for the function room should not be stored in the corridor
The staff were super friendly and it was a lovely pub to spend time in. The shower was excellent.
The food at the pub for dinner was fine but didn't blow us away. However, breakfast was really generous and a good range of things. I had the salmon and eggs on toast and it was yummy and a decent portion.
Restaurant and bar lovely, breakfast very nice.
Room very dirty - the shower was black and also had mould and there was rubbish in the bin.
Very clean , staff very helpful and the food was delicious
Nothing to dislike
Great location for my stay. Rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast starts from 7am, looked like a good selection
Decor needs some attention in the corridors, paint work on the doors etc, and conference room chairs need stacking out of site not just in the hall way, made it look scrappy. Rooms could be noisy from guest moving around. Breakfast doesn’t start until 7am, both days there were people queuing to either have breakfast or checkout. I only had time for a very quick continental breakfast before needing to be on the road, unfortunately not all items were available when the doors opened ☹️
Nice hotel. Room was very pleasant, modern decoration. Comfy bed. Staff were very helpful, see in didn’t like. Area has lots to do, but you do need transport. The bar/restaurantseating area outside was again nice. It was Wednesday pie night - very tasty and great price. (There are two other nights in the week with specials.)
My room was on the carpark, seating area side. The hotel was playing music. Which I have to say I liked. However I was very tired, about 9:30. I went to ask and the guy on the bar immediately knew what I was meaning and turned it off. So thanks to him, that was really appreciated. That was a Wednesday, with only two people sitting in the area . don’t know what would have happened on a busy weekend. But I’m hopeful reaction would have been the same.
Food perfect,
Mmmmm house keeping what can I say, where do I start - some work needs doing here - gee up the staff that should be carrying out hose keeping or hire the appropriate staff that can carry out the tasks to a standard.
Property inside and out was absolutely lovely

Good location, walks for dog from hotel. room functional.
Poor service at breakfast. Sign said to help yourself to cereal and coffee and somebody would be over to take your order. As we had the dog, we needed to sit in the bar area. Both mornings we had to go around to find someone to order our cooked breakfast.
On here
Cost and location to m6
Very slow breakfast service.
Very slow breakfast service
Great menu choice. Good food. 6 non guests joined for dinner outdoors and we enjoyed our meal. Can’t comment on standard rooms as I got a larger suite to myself.
Place is a bit tired but perfectly acceptable. The setting, food/drink, parking and service mostly compensate.
Clean and friendly staff
Nothing all good
The location and the staff , Food was also very good
There are parts of the hotel that could definitely do with a little bit of work, a lick of paint here and there , there was also a store room door left completely open for the time we where there , which isn’t a problem in itself, but the store room was a bit of a mess for everyone who stayed in rooms 1- 7 to see , which probably wasn’t a good look. The bathroom/ shower tiles could do with a scrub or grout and maybe put the roll holder back on the wall , all in all , the place just needs a bit of TLC ,
Bedroom was dated looked nothing like on the picture, the matress was extremely lumpy had a terrible night sleep, pillows had no protectors on, on arrival and checked into my room there were children running up and down the corridor, the entrance to the hotel with dirty needed hoovering, and chairs pilled randomly, not inviting at all
Beautiful location in rural Cheshire Comfortable, clean, quiet and very hospitable Ample on site parking Excellent food and drink

Comfortable bed, quiet location. Good breakfast.
Shower was very poor, no pressure.
Great location and value for money. Room was clean enough and food was good.
Slightly rude staff when I went down and Asked if they had a fan as it was stifling hot in room and was bluntly told guests should bring their own as they don’t provide them.
Convenient place to stay on our way back from North Wales before visiting Arley Hall. Good choice of food for our evening meal and the Staffordshire oat cakes (pancakes) made for a different but delicious breakfast. Room had everything we needed and was clean (room for improvement) and large free car park a bonus.
Maybe Booking.com didn't pass on our request for a downstairs bedroom but stairs up from restaurant and then up to first floor were a challenge for one of us. Patches of black mould round shower tray and shower head need bleaching. The guys who started hedge cutting and strimming right under our window woke us up with a start, so not a great start to the day when they could have begun round the car park!
Room looked, like,it hadnt seen a duster for a while
The rim of the toilet bowl was dirty and also the shower
Lovely location and building. Nice beer, great breakfast.
Far too warm . Fan needed in the rooms in this weather. Also music starts too early in the morning for me.
The location
The cleanliness, the black grout in the shower room. Dust and dead flys on the breakfast room window sill, these are just two examples.
A beautiful, period building, sympathetically refurbished
Bedroom was a bit thin, not much room around the bed, near the en-suite
large rooms
I waited in the breakfast dining area for 30 minutes, and not a single member of the service staff asked me what I would like for breakfast. Because I was running late for my destination, I had to leave without having breakfast.
The non-cooked breakfast was okay.
The full English breakfast was very greasy.
Location. Room size good.
Shower was far too hot, temperature control didn't work. Mould around the bath/shower. Pop up plug in basin didn't hold water. Loo roll holder broken No teaspoons. No hairdryer. Only 1 bedside lamp and shade was broken. Slow service at breakfast even though only 3 tables occupied. Carpet in corridor at fire door frayed and caused a trip.
Good location, friendly breakfast waitress
The evening staff made it clear that they were busy with a function so don't expect a proper service. Flagged a safety issue with my toddler and had messaged ahead to ask for a z bed (which is normally fine). The response was we don't know if it's been done, go check yourself and if I booked today it won't have happened and they were too busy to help for a few hours. I said 'I'll keep my 2 year old up till 8 then?' They said 'yep'. I then said can I push the beds up against the wall. They said 'the manager said as long as you don't block doors'. No offer to help, not even a smile. I moved the bed, covered in dust, an old pest control box and bits of food everywhere. Had to pick the bits of old food off myself best I could, so my toddler didn't step in it. The next morning went for breakfast at 8, the earliest at a weekend, 20 minutes of waiting for any sort of staff member to be in the breakfast room, no cooked food till 9. Pushed the whole day back. Not the waitress's fault. She was completely by herself. The other guests commented they felt sorry for her. She was lovely and much friendlier than the fair haired rude girl the night before. Such a shame as they're normally great and I was a regular. I messaged feedback before writing this public review but was ignored.
The food was very good and plentiful.
The rooms were ok but could do with an update We had two rooms and both shower cubicles were very mouldy.
Room was light and airy, towels and bedding weren't changed during stay - and the free biscuits and hot chocolate only replenished once, but if that is the extent of my dis-satisfaction, I think there is generally nothing to complain about :) Food was well cooked and there was enough choice to mean I didn't have to order the same thing, drinks range was good and the staff were fantastic.
Biscuits and hot chocolate not replaced daily, otherwise nothing negative about my stay.
Delicious breakfast . Freshly prepared and a good selection. Several areas to sit inside and out to enjoy a drink.
Somewhere to place wash bags in bathroom would be useful. Towel rail was dusty.
Location
Nothing
The food was nice and the location was convenient, the shower was great too.
Bed was broken, hairs and marks on bedding/decorative items, no fan supplied during heatwave - told ‘you should’ve brought your own’ when asked if possible.
Great location for the event we were attending. Excellent food in the restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff although there did not seem to be enough of them for the size of the hotel
The upstairs rooms and landing were very dusty. Slow service at breakfast due to lack of staff
Location, friendly staff and character inn
No air conditioning in rooms made it unbearably hot. Breakfast was slow to deliver.
Room and en-suite well equipped and comfortable Staff friendly and very helpful
A second pillow would have been appreciated and room smaller than expected
The location for where I needed to be.
Mould in the bathroom. Lumpy pillows See through blind provided no light block. Sun beaming into room at 4:30am. In ground floor bedroom you can hear all the boise from upstairs bedroom including incredibly creaky floorboards. Received a phone call asking if I had dinner and needed my room charged - I hadn’t. I went elsewhere for dinner. Breakfast overcooked and charged £4 for a “real” coffee - London prices!! 30 degrees - no air con which is fine as not noted but no fan provided and windows only slightly opened due to window locks.
very good
garden area untidy
Very efficient. Brilliant breakfast
Nothing
the evening meal was both very good
I did'nt like waiting over40mins for my breakfast,1st morning ,i had to ask if you had any orange juice i had to get some one to get hot water for my tea someone had to find decaf tea the sink in our room doesnt empty there was no complimentary biscuits in our room when we arrived ,only appeared 2 nd morning no hot chock drink no tea spoons in or out of room
It was fine for what I needed and I’ve stayed at the white lion before breakfast was excellent
There were a couple of problems I was in a downstairs room and the people above me were quite noisy and you could hear them walking around. The other problem was the electric sockets in the room tripped out through the night so I couldn’t make a drink or watch tv in the morning I reported it they fixed it but it only lasted about 10 minutes and then tripped out again just one of those things but was a bit inconvenient
Proximity to the golf course
Well worn. Not clean. Cold. Needs a substantial refurbishment.
Food in the restaurant was lovely, clean room and comfy beds and very helpful staff getting us a taxi so my daughter could get to dance comp on time
We needed to check out at 7am but the door from the rooms to the reception area was locked. We couldn't find another way out and had a train to catch (we did catch it)
Beautiful character pub with great food and wonderful staff.
Small bathroom in room 2, but everything was there that you needed and clean.
Good location and very old . Had all the facilities we needed and the breakfast was good too.
Needs a bit of TLC, new paint job and they need a gardener. But was very clean.
Very tired compared to photos Needs lots of TLC and investment
The staff were very friendly and competent The cooked breakfast was excellent
Lovely place, great atmosphere read terrace garden and ample parking

Great food.
Dust, cobwebs, creaking, shower so hot it was on the verge of being unusable. Generally very tired and in need of a deep clean and revamp. Food was great but service was extremely slow.
Restaurant and bar lovely
Dirty throw on the bed Broken bed Dirty pint glasses on the dressing table Not hoovered
Location
Staff not helpful. Not there to help the customer, too much time on their phones. Didn’t know the answer to questions about the food. Got the order for food wrong.
The rooms were clean and spacious, ample parking and good food.
Nothing.
Lovely old building
Nothing
Friendly staff - superb dinner
Very good
Not a lot
Close to where wanted to be
Comfortable bed. Breakfast.
The shower base was hazardously slippery, and there was no non-slip mat. There was one towel and tea/cocoa supplies for only 1 when 2 guests were booked. The shower was dirty and the room and general areas of accommodation wing dusty and dirty. Our room was not serviced.
food excellent staff very friendly. room was good
bottom of shower not cleaned properly. black mould very visible.
We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the food was of a good standard. The service was very friendly and pleasant too.
After viewing the "Three in a Bed" Winner Plaque we had high expectations. We booked our room last minute and believe it was one of the last rooms available. On first glance the room looked very nice, but then when we went to plug in our phone charger we could see how mucky the room was - dust on the skirting boards and that then highlighted that the carpet was vacuumed but could do with a good wash. When putting on the main ceiling light there was a bulb not working and the fitting seemed to have been distorted. Nevertheless there was enough light in the room. It was just one of those things that you would think would have been checked. The next morning when taking a shower I noticed that the water was not draining well in the shower. The cover over the plug was moveable, so I flipped it over to reveal lots of dirt and hair stuck in the plug. This was the first time using the shower in the room, so this must have been missed before letting out the room. There was also black mould around the shower base and near the shower doors. On inspection, the shower head also had black mould on it. Not really what you would expect. I know this is an old building, but the rooms have been modernised so this shouldn't be a problem. Clearly they have a problem with cleaning staff. It is such a shame, as this is a lovely venue, but just needs extra attention to general cleaning.
This is a lovely place to stay, the staff were helpful. The location for us was good as we stop here to visit friends and relative and being close to the A500 gave me easy access to major roads. The bar was well stocked and served a nice selection of beers. After a quiet night in the Weston suite we had a well prepared and cooked full engish. Would stay again.
We were dissapointed that the suite was not prepared, the room was stale and most surfaces had a moderate covering of dust, the ceiling and corners had historical spider webs that had accumalated dust. My wife being an aracnophobic insisted i check the bed, sadly again there was a good tangle of old webs behind the bed head and a couple of residents, hastily disposed of. I complained to the reception and she came out straight away dusted and polished the room and left a note for housekeeping. By chance we met the house keeper the following day and they were not aware of any problems with our room, she explained that she was going home in 5 minutes and could'help us, she also explained that she had made management aware that all rooms needed deep cleaning, so may be a management issue. The small expresso coffee maker was faulty and emtied the boiling water over the desk top, judging by the damage to the desk surface and stained carpet this was not its first time. I hope that management will recreate the same standard as they did on' Four in a bed' 2025. Then i would certainly come back. The room was too dark for my liking, proberbly why no one saw the webbing.
All of it
Party just outside bedroom
Positioning and staff nice enough
Room was so dirty on arrival - thick layers of dust and detritus in bathroom. Processed guacamole from a pot is not crushed avocado - sorry but it’s not! Dollop of cheap margarine also made breakfast inedible. Shame as small fixes for big gains Nice touches of fresh peonies on table and friendly staff doing the best they can with cheap produce- Management do better for them! Oh and weed and sweep cigarettes from outdoor patio! We will be back to see how you’ve done on this😊
Breakfast was nice
Room was filthy particularly the shower cubicle which was full of orange mold, got moved to another room shower was equally filthy and included a dripping tap. Bed was lumpy and room cold. Windows were mouldy.
Convenient location on a trip from the south of England to Scotland. Comfortable bed Some decor was ok Good value for money
There were stains on toilet door, possibly blood. Shower cubicle was dirty, room needed to be hoovered. Other areas around the hotel were not clean. Food was mediocre.
Good value for money. Food was good. Staff friendly....Location good.
Can't say anything we didn't like.
Evening meal. Proximity to countryside for a walk in the morning. Friendly staff. Peaceful.
Nothing.
Alles verliep heel vlot. Lekker eten en ontbijt. Vriendelijk personeel.
