We had room 8 up in the attic which was charming and perfect for 1 night, slept really well, so were surprised to learn on departure that not everyone has same experience....the ladies on reception were delightful. Good breakfast choice. Reasonable meal in the bistro.
We were lucky to get parked as checked in mid afternoon, otherwise parking could be an issue.
Emplacement exceptionnel. Accueil chaleureux.
Great location, even better if you can get there early enough to grab a parking space. Friendly staff and a good quality breakfast offering.
We chose one of the larger 4 poster rooms but it was at the back of the hotel and very dark and stuffy even with the window open - we had to have the fan running all night. Shower room was tiny and the window was screwed shut ( due for repair according to the note attached that appeared to have been there for some time)
Location was great. Staff really nice. Excellent breakfast
The location was excellent. Close to the Cathedral, shops and restaurants.
Some of the younger staff were quite rude and arrogant. The older staff were very helpful and friendly. The water pressure was very low, it was time consuming to have a shower. The staff checked and said it was an ongoing problem due to the age of the building.
Lovely old coaching inn, character building with lots of history. Ideally placed in centre. Room smallish but clean. Breakfast excellent as were the staff.
Parking not brilliant. A small, tight parking area which was full upon arrival. Ended up behind peacocks which is 5 minutes away. Not brilliant when dragging luggage etc. Probably best to drop luggage first if possible at the Hotel..
An old building with character but bedroom/bathroom v clean. Comfortable (4 poster) bed. Breakfast ok but not special, except for "homemade butter"!? Overall a good basic stay in city centre.
No extractor fan in bathroom. Paintwork especially on pipe work, which was all v visible because old building, but could do with a touch up. Faded picture needs replacing. Weak tea at breakfast, had to ask for a third teabag!! Mix up at check in, receptionist v apologetic, but I was given form to complete with someone else's name!? Made a confusion, concern re double booking etc I hadn't asked for a quiet room, but was v glad I wasn't there the morning they set up the market!!(Do you alert potential clients to this?) And please could you put up how to work shower. The knobs had to be turned to see the result, which meant a shock of v cold water on me when i was just looking to see which one worked which shower head!
Location was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was good
It’s a bit tired in places. Parking not really available
Convenient location.
Very tired and grubby in public rooms. Carpet on stairs and hallways plus wooden floors very dirty. Outside tables and chairs not cleared quickly and looks very run down.
I thought the bed was very comfortable and plenty of space for 1 person
I tried to watch Netflix on the smart tv but it was not connected to the Internet
The room was very quaint.
Breakfast was inconsistent from one day to the next with things missing from the day before.
Beautiful room and amazing view
Carpark was a bit tricky
The friendly staff The hotel and history
Leaving
The property was all that was expected for its age. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Great value for money. Breakfast was superb. In an age where hotels get judged on little things mine is toilet roll. The Crown passed with flying colours. You’ll be surprised how many 4&5 star hotels let them selves down with this.
The only thing for me was water pressure in the shower. I understand the water shortages but a little more pressure would have meant less time spent in there and more water saved.
We had to Leave Very Early due to a Flight from Bristol but the Evening Meal was Really Super
No Issues really but we Note that the Parking is Limited
Lovely pub, rooms very clean (remember this is a 500 year old hotel) so will not be sparkling by nature, but bathroom clean and bed so comfy and very clean.
Bathroom mirror light didn't work so quite dark for wife put on make up, no fresh milk for tea and coffee, staff a bit miserable
Excellent location to explore Wells, Lovely old inn with lots of traditional features. Comfortable rooms with 4 poster beds. Good menu and food. Very nice breakfast with attentive and pleasant staff.
Not much apart form the very restricted parking
traditioneel hotel, mooie uitstraling , prachtige lokatie, heel vriendelijke mensen
matige bedden, gedateerd
This hotel is movie icon location and lives up to the hype.
Room was lovely and location was fabulous.
Food was not great.
Good location and convenient for the Coroner's Court Staff at breakfast were very friendly and helpful
Couldn't get there using sat nav (one-way streets etc) no warning on property's web site The car park was tiny and full anyway. Parking in the town very expensive The decor of the room was of very low quality and in poor condition with the wall paper peeling off the wall and ceiling The bed was really soft and it was a bit like sleeping in a hammock
Had everything we needed for a brilliant stay
There was nothing we did like
Right in the centre of things. My room was tucked away in a quiet part of the hotel. I slept very well, despite warnings from staff about the noise on market days!
Nothing to dislike as long as you don’t mind very old buildings that don’t have perfectly even floors.
Traditioneller schöner Pub, beste Lage in Wells. Parkplatz vorhanden. Wir kommen gerne wieder. Tolle Lage.
Locatie
Wanted to stay there as we love the hot fuzz film. It was excellent. All of the places where it wad filmed were easily accessible. Bonus was the Cathedral and bishops residence. There was a lovely market on the Saturday and the shops around us were great. Will definitely visit again.
The windows in our room were being repaired so we couldn't see out of them. But being an old quaint pub/hotel you have to expect repairs so its not a complaint. It added to the overall charm of the place.
It’s perfectly located in the centre of town. The staff were kind and (willingly/reluctantly?) agreed to refund three of my booked nights as the bed was painfully uncomfortable for me and I had to stay elsewhere in town for the rest of my holiday.
I’d paid a little extra for the four poster bed with market view. I didn’t get a market view but a beer garden view with fairly noisy patrons (typical pub noise both outside and immediately under my room but hey, it’s a pub), and the bed was like a hammock - I tried everything to make the bed comfortable but finally ended up sleeping on the floor for about one hour. I had booked for four nights but only stayed one. This place wasn’t for me.
Posizione. Struttura caratteristica. Colazione ottima.
Bagno un po' da migliorare.
Good location
Needs a little updating
Fantastic location and on-site parking. Old pub hotel style but rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable. Great pub and brilliant breakfast.
Nothing
Excellent location in the center of Wells. The room was very spacious and clean, the bed comfortable. The bathroom was very modern unlike the building! The staff are lovely and very nice, it’s also possible to dine in without the need to get out. The breakfast is great, many choices and all cook on order!
Nothing, everything was wonderful.
Engaging staff. Excellent location. Enjoyable breakfast with good range of options.
The whole ambience is sadly all rather faded and even slightly grubby. The maintenance of the building needs attention across all facets from upstairs windows to interior decor.
The crown ligt midden in Wells aan marktplein. Prachtig oud gebouw. Ruim opgezet. Uitstekend ontbijt, vriendelijk personeel.
Schilderen was hard nodig. Vloerbedekking was niet echt schoon. In badkamer ventilator maakte veel herrie, douche gaf weinig water
The location was ideal at the absolute heart of the city. Food available all day
Ver noisy on recycling day - all those bottles being tipped at 5.00 am. Breakfast wasn't always very hot. No curtain at the bedroom window, just a piece of hessian, so impossible to shut out the light.
Situation
.
Very nice old hotel, great food, great staff.
Historic building, great room, good food - yards from the Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace.
Parking arrangements - suss this out before you stay. Make sure you have the PayByPhone app before you get here if you can’t pre book the hotel car park.
It’s a great location on market day and for the Cathedral, lovely hearing the bells on Sunday.
The stairs!
The history associated with the building makes it unique.
Unfortunately, the night we stayed the heat was oppressive with the heat wave. Due to the historic features of the property and despite the fan, it was way, way too hot to rest and sleep at all. However, breakfast was good.
Das Frühstück war sehr lecker.
The breakfast was very nice good local produce
Super room at the front. They changed my room from the back to the front, from hell in heaven, very sweet.
It is my second statement in Crown at Wells. I just love. The stuff is professional, friendly, helpful. The location is just excellent. My room was very charming, it is just stepping into 12 th century, so much history. The breakfast is excellent. I normally don't have breakfasts in hotels, prefer to have my nuts, healthy snacks. This was an exception. Thank you for everything and hopefully see you next year 😊
Great location
Parking
Location, friendly staff
The room although clean was very shabby eg cracked un-grouted bathroom floor tiles, depressingly dark room in need of repainting and a general upgrade, no hairdryer or information in the room apart from fire notice.
the hotel location
poor public transport
Friendly hard working staff. Typical pub | inn B&B breakfast options. Nice pub - good beers. Very close to Wells Cathedral. Strawberry line is a good option for a walk | run. Very dog friendly! Neighbour restaurant Il Postino is highly recommended.
As you can expect of a 1450 building, comfort in the building is somewhat limited. Facilities are at B&B | inn level.
Location only. Breakfast too.
Everything is so old and shabby. The windows are extremely old,the one in the bedroom doesn't even open and it’s hot because it’s an attic room, even with a fan.
The location and the building itself
They had the door to the ladies toilet propped wide open with a bin. The.afternoonnand evening I arrived, and the following morning. It was right off the bar/ lounge area.
Olde worlde charm with excellent obliging staff
Can’t find a dislike
Good location. Lots of character Good choice of breakfast
No lift Bathroom dated
Location and history.
The bed and the breakfast
The shower was not fit for purpose and the snacks/light bites in the bar were tasteless and outrageously overpriced
Good staff, great location.
Lovely clean hotel, staff where great, will definitely love to go back!!
Location, room and breakfast
Really comfortable (after a 90 mile cycle ride!) Very friendly & welcoming staff. They went out of their way to ensure that my bike and kit was securely stowed away The location in the city centre meant it was easy to find somewhere to eat, relatively late in the day. Nice choices of local produce at breakfast.
Nothing adverse to comment here
Amazing location
Great stay overall. But the lady in the front desk talked to us like we were absolute children when we arrived when we were nothing but polite. So condescending, borderline rude. I think because she saw three young lads she thought we were going to cause trouble during our stay.
Very welcoming. Lovely frontage
Nothing
Super central location in market square, very close to cathedral. Lovely old building.
A bit noisy as my room overlooked the market square, setting up noise late at night and early morning. To be expected though. Had to open windows as it was very hot weather. Breakfast wasn’t as good as expected: cheap ingredients and a bit over cooked.
Central location by the Bishops Palace and restaurants was excellent.
Room was small, cluttered with exposed plumbing and lousy view over a littered covered, flat roof: shower was poor with low pressure - we were told that was the economy room for Booking.com clients, so beware!
Location excellent in the centre of everything.
Unfortunately we hadn't realised the market set up before 6.00 am right outside the hotel.
Perfect location; good parking (but arrive early as it’s limited). Good food and drink, excellent staff. Just a great place to stay.
No complaints
Great location with everything on your doorstep. The room was fully equipped and had everything we needed for our stay.
The mattress needed to be replaced as it was a little uncomfortable and bouncy. I kept waking up each time my partner or I moved. Other than this, everything else was perfect 😀
Disastrous. was e mailed by the Hotel to say that the special request was met but when I checked the day before I was told that the rooms were on different floors and this could not be changed. This would have been unsafe for my son as he has learning difficulties and was travelling with his P.A. who needed to be close by. I cancelled through Booking.com but then received a call from the hotel on the day, they knew nothing about it, no-one had been informed. A total lack of communication and unnecessary upset, also I was charged the full price ! No more Booking .com for me.
Everything. Why e-mail to say the request had been met when it had not. Very poor communication Wrong information given Hotel not informed by Booking.com
Location Helpful on arrival Facilities & tea/coffee, etc. in room
No staff after pub hours & early close on Sunday night Locked external door and key worryingly difficult to turn Parking awful
Wonderful stay here! So quiet and very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent too!
Perfect city centre location with parking. Very friendly staff on arrival and thorough out the stay. The room was a good size, clean and had all the items you'd expect - they even had a fan due to the hot weather. We didn't use the restaurant in the evening, but the breakfast (continental and cooked) was very nice. Dog friendly too.
Location
Everything was fine
Wonderful friendly staff & great food, all in a perfect location & a room with a view of the cathedral & market place!
The closeness to the Cathedral, the age of the hotel, the quirkiness of the building, its location to everywhere we needed to be.
Nothing everything was excellent
Great hotel in the heart of Wells. Wonderful and helpful staff. Great breakfast. Added bonus of the film ‘Hot fuzz’ being filmed here!
N/A
When we had an unexpected difficulty unrelated to the Crown they went out of their way to solve the problem.
Nothing at all to complain about.
The location is excellent. Right in the Market Square. Our room faced the street but was not noisy at all, even on Market day. Beautiful view of the cathedral and very accessible. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Building full of character. Breakfast was very good. Other restaurants located nearby. Room was a good size. Pillows were excellent. Lovely to have an actual key and fob rather than a swipe card entry.
Beware if you have mobility problems. No lift as it's a really old building. Car park only accommodates about 6 cars. There is paid parking not far away. Bathroom in our room was tiny! Shower cubicle would be problematic if anyone slightly larger than slim! Flies around the drains in the outer courtyard where people sit for drinks. Decoration in our room certainly needs an upgrade. Paper peeling off the wall. Big damp patch on bathroom floor. Damage to bathroom ceiling. Expected a bit more for £130 a night.
Good position
Noisy building work outside early morning
Very comfortable bed. A warm welcome from staff on arrival and at breakfast. Rooms are in keeping with the age of the hotel, I really liked that. Nice size ensuite. Very quiet overnight considering there was football on and it was s warm summers night. A great stay. I stayed in a heatwave, the room was warm but they provided 2 fans to help. Breakfast was lovely!
The shower head was quite small, but that's being really picky! Nothing not to like
Great central location
It was very hot but 2 fans helped
Location character
Mediocre food
Perfect location, comfy and all the staff were all friendly and helpful.
LOCATION STAFF
Very quirky in a beautiful location
Rooms are clean but a little dated. Staff were excellent.
Great location , lots of character.
The location of the Crown is great and it's right of the main square and a 2 minute walk to the Cathedral.
The only thing I would ask is putting fridges in the room. It was very hot and nowhere to cool drinks or water.
Location so central, staff were absolutely lovely and helpful, outside to rear seating quiet and comfortable. Loved the style of the building and original features 😍
Nothing
Excellent location, old building so it creaks a bit but that’s fine
Free parking is good but near impossible to get out if the four car spaces at the back were occupied
Location
Stayed during hot weather. Better quality fans would have improved comfort.
Dry good location, right in the centre of Wells. And ideal if you’re a Hot Fuzz fan!
Nothing
The location is perfect for seeing the cathedral and visiting the market on a Saturday. Good beer on tap. Very friendly staff ! Good breakfast!
We liked everything
The location, it was spotless, lovely staff
Not the hotels fault but market setting up at 5:30am. Even though didn’t spoil the visit
Location was perfect, food amazing and very helpful staff.
Appreciate the age of the building, but our room really needed updating. The bathroom was very poor, and some of the furniture was broken. Also, we went during the heatwave and were scared to open the window for fear of it falling off.
excellent location, quiet, great breakfasts and wonderfull service.
Limited car parking
The staff were amazing especially Sasha she went above and beyond to help me in a difficult situation.
