Familiar with the hotel - the location is excellent, all facilities satisfactory
Nothing at all on this visit
Súper central location for Wells cathedral etc
Bit of a trek from reception to our room off a courtyard
Very characterful building in a beautiful location. Staff were friendly polite and professional. Room was spacious clean and nicely furnished and decorated
Nothing negative to report at all
Location excellent very convenient. The price of room didn’t include breakfast which was extra and no provision to have continental as opposed to full English.the room itself was comfortable and we were allocated a room where we would hear no noise as they had wedding on the Saturday.
As previously stated should have had a choice for either or re breakfast. The evening menu could have had more choice and no provision for snack menu throughout the day.
A lovely and welcoming hotel right in the centre of Wells. Our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was excellent, with a great choice of both a full English and continental options. You could even order extra treats such as Eggs Benedict. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. All in all, a really pleasant place to stay in Wells!
As far as we could tell, there was no lift, so you’ll need to carry your luggage up the stairs.
Service was quick and courteous
Breakfast was left out to long becoming dry and tough took to long to get fresh food out
Breakfast excellent
Nice room. Friendly staff.
Room was above kitchen aircon units.hot night so had window open so a bit noisy.
Beautiful old coaching house, additionally made famous from the film Hot Fuzz. Lovely food in the restaurant, excellent service from all sides, rooms, restaurant and management.
Location excellent, room good.
English breakfast was below average. Buffet breakfast food suffered from standing for too long so e.g. eggs were rubbery.
Lovely rooms. Friendly and efficient staff. Good food, very generous portions at breakfast and dinner. Wells is a beautiful little city and The Swan is right in the heart of it
Beautiful hotel and lovely, welcoming staff particularly Darren and Leroy. Room was spacious, spotlessly clean and so comfortable I wish I’d booked another night!
Location
Bit run down

Everything!
Food was excellent
Good furnishings
Excellent location Clean and comfortable room with complementary water and coffee machine. Great to have an iron in the room as well as a fan and a nice dressing mirror which we appreciated.
We were unable to have dinner in the hotel, was turned away due to a large party, would have been nice to have some communication from the staff about booking or a heads up about this so we could plan alternative arrangements given there isn't loads of resteraunts in wells. Floor creaked in the room a lot which was annoying.
Breakfast good but evening meal was not made available to us.
Room
Parking was very helpful in the town, as long as you can get a spot
Our room over looked the High Street & was noisy at night with loud cars & loud music. It would be helpful to have a traffic signaling system to go in & out as the drive in is narrow.
Location was perfect right across from the cathedral in the middle of town
Brilliant location, lovely comfortable room, friendly, helpful staff, a really enjoyable stay.
Nothing
Location. Spacious room
Not much choice on either Dinner or Breakfast menus. Room didn't have a seperate bath abd shower and trouble in adjusting water temp.
Liked everything about this hotel. Staff, location and food all great.
Not the hotels fault but we had worst nights sleep on our trip due to noisy guest above us in Room 8 in annexe who consistently walked across creaking floorboards all night and took telephone calls through the night (we could hear every word) disturbed our sleep. Notified Hotel who apologized but we don't recommend room 6 (lovely room) if guests are above in room 8 due to really bad insulation.
A traditional cosy English coaching Inn in a great location with a nice restaurant. The staff were very friendly, and the room was comfortable and adequately sized.
Parking can be a bit hit and miss - you might not get a space and have to park in the public car park. If it's market day you won't get a space there either. If you're staying during a hot spell you might want to go somewhere else - there's no air con and very little air circulation despite the fan that was provided. The breakfast was tasty and was well presented, but it was lukewarm at best - others in our large group had a similar experience with the breakfast.
Très bel hôtel dans une charmante petite ville. Très grande chambre . Petit déjeuner copieux et bon . Parking
The location in the City of Wells was absolutely ideal. The accommodation was amazing and the breakfast just what was needed to start the day. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Nothing to add here
Posizione centrale, camere spaziose e pulite Musica rilassante in camera, possibilità di parcheggio
Assenza di ascensore, ma è scritto quindi lo sapevamo
Had a wonderful stay. The hotel is beautiful and full of character. Cannot beat the location for exploring Wells. Very comfortable room with comfy bed and big bathroom. Excellent restaurant service, tasty gluten free fish & chips. Highly recommended!
The only minor downside is that because it is a very old historic building, you can really hear your neighbors and the floorboards are quite squeaky.
Location was fabulous. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The hotel was reviewed as being quiet but rooms overlooking the high street can be noisy. The room had a fan and a nespresso machine with genuine nespresso pods. Cleanliness was generally very good.
The entrance to the carpark is interesting with a few tight bends.
The staff were excellent very friendly and helpful, the receptionist went above and beyond to help us with parking, very nice room, lovely and comfortable bed, breakfast was lovely and staff very attentive will definitely be back to stay again.
Parking is a big issue at busy times, maybe adding an option to reserve a parking space especially if your disabled
Really enjoyed our stay
.
The bed was comfortable, room had kettle etc, not enough milk for two drinks, shame no fridge.
We were told on arrival we were in the coach house not the main hotel, which was disappointing. I’d always wanted to stay in the hotel itself, shame we weren’t advised about this on booking communications. We weren’t told about key pad to get into front door, in the dark and rain had to go to reception and ask and be told the code was on a bit of card we were given, we weren’t told that on arrival! I think booking through Booking.com makes me feel like second class citizens, we had a similar experience in another hotel
Great location. Nice beer garden opposite cathedral. Staff attentive and helpful. Comfy bed
Nothing. But perhaps need to make people aware if room doesn’t have walk in shower
Hotel storico ed elegante, la nostra camera aveva la vista sulla cattedrale, breakfast ricco e di qualità
Non abbiamo trovato posto nel parcheggio dell'hotel. Bagno un po' piccolo, ma qui è tipico.
It was older world

Perfect central position in city
Noisy generator or fan system right outside our bedroom window during night
We went for our golden wedding anniversary, but we didn’t tell the hotel . When we got back to our room ,there was a lovely card and Prosecco wish was a lovely touch. The staff were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble xx
Bardzo klimatyczny hotel, położony w pobliżu Katedry, duży, przestronny pokój z garderobą i wygodną łazienką, bardzo smaczne dania w restauracji, pyszna baranina! Chętny do pomocy personel
Mały parking, musiałam przestawić wczesnie auto na inną ulicę, ale recepcjonistka mi wszystko doskonale wytłumaczyła. Trochę mały wybór produktów na śniadaniu.
Stayed many times at the swan always a pleasant experience must say that the barman was a very pleasant.polite and curious an asset to the hotel. A nice touch was the radio in the room
The tripod lamp in the room we stayed in had cables protruding from the plug plus the earth wire had been cut other than that room was fine
The breakfast was as expected. Service was good
Check in was not a great experience. Sulan reception.
The room was very spacious and confortabile. The facilities were new and clean
Really lovely hotel. Great staff, beautiful room, great location and good food.
Great location that’s opposite the Cathedral
Limited car parking, get there early
Great location, the room was well equipped and comfortable.
Very clean beautiful room in an ideal location
Nothing
Location
Lots of steps and stairs
We asked for a ground floor room with walk in shower and were taken to a beautifully refurbished room with a King size bed and seating area with a sofa with air conditioning which was outstanding. The Hotel was in an excellent location walking distance to the cathedral and various restaurants and shops including a very good restaurant called Roots. Very good breakfast too.
The hotel bar and restaurant could benefit from a bit of updating.
staff, breakfast, overall feeling of the hotel
dated , could do with some tlc , but did not impact our stay
Lovely room, very clean, particularly the bathroom.
Parking was difficult, there was no room in the car park so had to park a fair way away and I’m disabled so that was difficult. I would’ve also preferred to be in the main hotel rather than the coach house.
Oozes history and its quirkiness with how it’s maintained old architecture with modern facilities is amazing . The room was well maintained and comfortable with complimentary toiletries , USB ports , iron etc . All staff were friendly helpful very professional .
Nothing to add . Everything was perfect
Wonderful location in the heart of the beautiful city of Wells looking out over the green to the cathedral. Comfortable room with great coffee making facilities. Plenty of space to relax inside, and outside the hotel in their terrace on the edge of the cathedral green.
Some confusion over the bill and strange noises in the night!
Good Location, characterful, large bedroom, well furnished, quiet, good toiletries. Friendly helpful staff. Near to great restaurants and cathedral and Bishop gardens.
The bathroom wasn’t cleaned after previous guests left. The sink and shower were dirty and the previous guests rubbish was overflowing from the bin in the bathroom. Odd as the towels were clean so the staff had been into the bathroom.
Great location
Bit tired
Die Lage ist sensationell, die Rezeptionistin super freundlich.
Wir hatten das Hotel gebucht, weil es Parkplätze about, bei unserer Ankunft gab es aber keine mehr. Sauberkeitsmängel.
The staff we very helpful and kind.
We were able to park in hotel car park but some people were disgruntled when they could not park there.
We loved the central position and the excellent facilities.
On a two night stay, I felt our room should have been freshened up on the second day, and the teabags etc. replenished. It was evident this did not happen .
Distance from the Cathedral, Bishops Palace and gardens.
As we had a room near the kitchen it was noisy first thing in the morning especially with windows open. And the kitchen fan was noisy all night.
Location and room facilities, except bath. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Having a bath in the room, we prefer a shower. Breakfast was overcooked, eggs hard and sausages inedible.
All good
Car park full. Long walk to/from reserve car park, but free overnight.
Breakfast was good Location great
Some staff could be friendlier
I enjoy being at The Swan for its location & and good standards. I was particularly grateful that when I requested it, my room was changed from the very noisy room 19 (above the heat exchanger which was throbbing.), to the very pleasant quiet and cool room 60. Thank you!
See above: it would not have been a comfortable or pleasant stay in room 19…
Friendly staff, lovely area for the hotel.
No aircons
Staff polite and friendly nothing was to much trouble. Food in main restaurant very good.
Parking is limited stayed 2 nights, parked at hotel for ine night due to availability. Hotel do advise this though so not a suprise.
Wonderful location right in front of the cathedral, with a fantastic terrace for drinks over the road. The staff were very helpful and friendly, drinks at the bar were good if a little pricey and the breakfast was great with lots of options.
The room was very tired and could do with a general refresh. There was no main light so we were relying on a couple of lamps which were quite old. The shower in the bathroom wasn't great. There is a lovely big window but you can only open a tiny bit of it so it was hot and stuffy, and the fan wasn't enough to cool it down.
Location is great to explore Wells, parking and staff friendly
Location was great loved the view of the Cathedral Room was comfortable and Hotel is charming
Scary access to the car park and some staff were less than helpful but was hot weather and everyone was a bit grumpy not just the staff members
Very comfy room, great bed, and nice and quiet
They were short of staff, so couldn't use the terrace garden for a drink on the Tuesday evening. This was a shame, as it was a lovely warm evening
Breakfast was good and located right in the centre of Wells, near the cathedral
No air conditioning so we had a very hot and restless night
The location was brilliant for the places we wanted to visit during our stay. The rooms were comfortable equipped with everything you need. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful with good choices.
Our room was lovely but unfortunately we had rooms above us and the floors in their rooms and the stairs that lead up to them were very creaky and noisy whenever they moved about or when entering and leaving their rooms. On our last night especially there was quite a bit of disturbance that affected the quality of our sleep.
Breakfast good. Good choices. Comfortable hotel. Friendly staff.
All good
Car Parking Restaurant and Lounge Decor terrace for guests .
Limited choice in buffet breakfast Bedroom was over kitchen so very noisy .
Hotel staff are lovely, friendly and helpful even when we're short staffed.
Nothing can be done about this but just a heads up. We were upgraded to room 64,it was lovely but up and down a lot of steps out of the back of hotel. (Ramps outside) but in the building quite a few steps to this room. Also it is in the eaves,so not suitable for any one very tall,I had to bend to move along the side of bed,I'm only 5ft 3 😁 . Caused an issue for my 6ft husband to move around the room. We would normally go back to reception and asked to be moved but couldn't be bothered to do all the steps again with our bags.
Excellent location excellent room excellent vibe
Menu choices for vegetarians
Nice room and very good breakfast
Adding Air Con
Location. History
Quite unfriendly staff. Terrible lunch. Should have sent it back! Poor service yet still wanted to add a “service charge”. Glad we didn’t preorder breakfast.
Perfect location , very friendly staff , very good breakfast , nice room with comfortable bed
Not aware that our room was out in the Coach House and there wasn’t a lift . My sister struggled a little with the stairs . Also we were not aware that our room faced onto a busy street so we had to sleep with the windows closed in hot weather . We had a small fan
Nice location, room had great view, lovely amenities (coffee, radio, kettle, robes etc). Central location, breakfast nice especially made to order items. Staff friendly.
Garden and terrace both closed from 5pm which was frustrating due to heatwave. Bar closed between 7-9pm and unable to book restaurant meal. Although staff helpful they were sadly understaffed throughout the whole stay and undertaking multiple roles.
Lovely hotel and staff were superb, very helpful.
The hotel is easy to get to, nice on the outside. Well kept and the room was very nice! It was very clean with a nice bathroom and a tv, which worked. The property also has a very nice ohtdoor seating area in the back and one out the front across the road with very nice cathedral view. Also it is a 1 minute walk from the centre which has an artisan market on a Sunday once a month. The staff were also polite.
I can’t think of anything bad enough to put on. Only three little things to be wary of are, on arrival please get there early as there is limited car parking at the property, the car park is through a narrow driveway around a couple of corners so a car may be coming the other way and finally some rooms are a little trek away up and down stairs.
Location central, perfect.
Price was excessive, given breakfast not included.
Perfect location, beautiful room which was very clean. Friendly staff and lovely breakfast.
Nothing
Clean, comfortable and very friendly helpful staff
Lots of different switches for different things - annoying to get the right switch on for the right light
Lovely hotel ,well placed for the city. Loved everything about it. Full of character and charm. Very comfortable bedroom, with much appreciated fan provided, and joy of joys a magnifying mirror in the bathroom, something that not every hotel offers.Above average toiletries, and everything spotless. Ate in restaurant in the evening good food well presented, wine fairly expensive at over £12 a glass for a decent sauvignon blanc, really nice decor, comfortable chairs and friendly and courteous staff.I loved it and would definitely recommend a stay there.
Pillows a bit too hard for my liking ,and tiny water glass.. Car parking a bit dicey very tight entrance, though to be fair we were warned,we arrived at 5pm only to find car park full and had to park round by the cathedral green. No problem as long as you move by 10 am next day.
Great location with a stunning view of the cathedral from our room window.
Parking is totally inadequate. We were given a parking permit then there was insufficient space to accommodate our car. This was an important issue for us because of the amount of luggage we had, and we would have reconsidered our choice of hotel if we had known. Left us with a poor impression after what was , in all other respects, a pleasant stay. Don't issue a permit if there's no room!! Food was acceptable, but rather ordinary. We were expecting better from such a beautiful hotel.
Friendly staffs and nice classical design hotel
Nothing
The lounge, bar and reception are really comfortable attractive and lovely to sit in. Reception staff were lovely and bar staff. Loved going to the patio area for a drink over looking the cathedral.
We requested a room that wasn’t too high but still had two flights of stairs. The room although lovely decor had broken wood bath trim, broken tap in bath off dirty brass light switches, splashed milk up the mirror from milk. Beds not made everyday. Lovely terrace garden shame the tables were messy and had broken umbrellas, great spot though and difficult for staff to manage as well. We were unable to have breakfast, dinner or after tea as the manager stated they had to booked 24hrs . Last night noisy guest banging doors until 3.30 in the morning
Hotel is right in the centre of Wells so very convenient for the town and cathedral. Good size room and bathroom with adequate A/C. Very large comfortable bed. Restaurant served good food and good range of cooked and cold food for the buffet breakfast. Additional a la carte items available too.
TV signal was hopeless so only BBC1 and 2 available to watch. The car park access is very narrow with blind bends so could be a problem for anyone with a large 4x4.
www - staff were the highlight - all friendly and effective
bacon at breakfast a bit overcooked - minor in the scheme of things. But poached eggs were perfect!
It was comfortable
Drinks at the bar far to expensive
The hotel had good character and was centrally located in the city.
Good breakfast, excellent location, opposite the beautiful cathedral and close to shops and restaurants. Our room was absolutely amazing, huge, stunning bathroom and more importantly, as it was 35 degrees, air conditioning!!
Car parking is a little limited so it is first come first served, and admittedly it's an old coaching property but the entrance into the car park is extremely tight...we haven't got a big car but you have to be very careful getting into car park. It wouldn't stop us staying there again however.
Fabulous location, opposite Wells cathedral. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Rooms are a little dated
Loved that the hotel was so central to the Cathedral. Hotel full of character. Rooms comfortable, water bottles, tea and coffee, hairdryers provided etc. Different sections.Loved outdoor seating.
Nothing
We attended a wedding and stayed overnight. Food was excellent and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Historic old pub with views of the amazing cathedral. Limited free parking on site which is accessed via a twisty, tight alley.
Nothing
It is a great location, beautiful building & well kept and maintained.
The bathroom was a little tired, but not awful. Parking was limited, but there is free parking behind the bishops palace/park about 5 mins walk.
Lovely historic building in a central position of the small city. As we had gorgeous weather for our stay, we enjoyed the outside garden bar/eating area with stunning views of the cathedral.
Entrance to car park was very narrow especially for a larger vehicle
Location.
Nothing.
Everything. The hotel looked superb with all the hanging baskets and views onto the Cathedral Green. Full of character and history. Very nice room and bathroom, not only a kettle but also an expresso machine. Huge comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and helpful. Ate dinner there twice. Delicious.
No niggles really.
Location, friendly and helpful staff
The room was very hot
